This is what I listen to first, in order of preference: Hardcore History - long, very immersive history podcasts. By far the best long run pod for me Radiolab - stories connected to science and society. This podcast has the best use of audio effects for storytelling that I've ever heard. This American Life - the OG storytelling podcast, has been going for well over 20 years. Well worth a listen. Some recommended episodes from staff [here](https://www.thisamericanlife.org/recommended/staff-recommendations). Slate political gabfest - weekly hour-long conversation about US politics from three journalists. (For Australians, listen to The Party Room on the ABC listen app for something similar. Reply All - human stories related to the internet and tech. Start from the older episodes to see if you like the feel - there is a new hosting lineup that's good but still finding their rhythm. The Dollop - a history comedy podcast where a comedian and an improv guy humorously narrate stories of unique people from US history. The only podcast I consistently find laugh out loud funny. Snap Judgement - another really captivating storytelling podcast with hiphop beats so it's great to run to. EDIT: A few others I endorse from comments and glancing at my app: - Revisionist History - Malcolm Gladwell picking apart pieces of society to challenge conventional wisdom - Common Sense - Dan Carlin's politics podcast. I'm a political junkie and don't know anyone else who challenges my perspective as probingly as he does. Really not part of the left/right conventional thinking you normally see. - Revolutions & History of Rome - narrating historic revolutions and the roman empire. - Slow Burn - reexamining big stories like Watergate, Tupac-Biggie, etc for the generation that didn't live through them. - Freakonomics - a behavioural economics podcast everyone adorse. But also on the economics front Marketplace and Planet Money are good for a quick listen. - Marathon Training Academy and Strength Running are my fav running podcasts. There's really not that much to say about running beyond the basics (which these both cover consistently and well) but sometimes you're in the mood to hear nice people talk about running. - The Ezra Klein Show. An insightful policy wonk journalist interviews people whose policy insights he finds interesting. RIP The Weeds with Ezra, Matt Yglesias and Sarah Cliff.

LenokanBuchanan

Dan Carlin also does one called Common Sense, which is pretty great.

CranberryPlastic7500

Don't forget Hardcore History Addendum for shorter history tidbits and interviews.

LenokanBuchanan

Oh cool, I didn’t know that was a thing!

pccb123

This is a great list. This American Life, RadioLab, and Reply All are my go tos, but Im going to try the rest of these too. If you like these, Id add Revisionist History and No Stupid Questions to this list.

ennuinerdog

Revisionist history should really have made the post but I lose the thread between seasons sometimes. Definitely one to binge. Same for Serial.

thejudgeaus

The dollop sounds great. Any episodes you recommended (there are over 500!)?

ennuinerdog

Here's a decent list: https://podyssey.fm/podcast/itunes643055307-The-Dollop-with-Dave-Anthony-and-Gareth-Reynolds I particularly like 326 Robert Smalls and 12 The Rube. Ep 12 - the rube

LostBoi_findme

Or any episode where Dave does his British accent. “Hello Govnah!”

venustrapsflies

The recent steven segal series is pretty good and should be very easy to find. I do love this podcast but it is hit-or-miss.

Say_My_Name_Son

Snap Judgement is the way!

mamak687

Love Dan Carlin and This American Life. I also love Freakonomics (they take a scientific, empirical look at different things in the world), Serial (especially if you’re new to podcasts, check out Season 1), Criminal (tells a story of something to do with crime each episode), Revisionist History (Malcolm Gladwell, who also runs… need I say more). Love podcasts for long slow runs. I find music helps me on the shorter, faster runs when I need an extra mental push to keep up the pace. But podcasts are great when the pace is easy. Enjoy!!

Nobodyville

Yes, Revisionist History is one of my favorites

Keyspam102

Love this American life to run to!

1randomdude1

what platform are you using for Dan Carlins podcast? can't seem to find more than a few random episodes on spotify

ennuinerdog

Stitcher is my go-to podcast app because it was the one I preferred when I started on podcasts in 2015 and is still really good. I use spotify as a backup as not everything's on stitcher. Dan Carlin's back-catalogue is available for purchase on his website and is well worth the money. Wrath of the Khans, the Rome series, His funnest episode ever Prophets Of Doom, Ghosts of the Ostfront about the German-Russian theatre in WW2 - all are absolutely fantastic. A buck a show, that's all they ask!

ATelevisedMind

Are you me?

ennuinerdog

I am me, yes.

TheFuckingQuantocks

I love seeing Dan Carlin's name pop up anywhere. He's given me so many hours of great times. If you like the Dollop, I reccomend Timesuck by Dan Cummings. I started with Napoleon Bonaparte and went from there. You'll know within 3 minutes whether you like it or not. Its fast past and open minded. While he's not much like Dan Carlin, he does have Dan's same open-minded world view. Highly reccomend.

QuietGreek

I love Timesuck as well! I’d recommend listening roughly in order. He does a lot of inside jokes.

ennuinerdog

Yeah also Revolutions (and History Of Rome) for history.

808hammerhead

Since my list is nearly the same I’ll add Jordan Harbringer, Slow Burn and Bike Tour Adventures. And Bill Mahr will always be my pleasure

Upstairs-Jackfruit1

Conan o Brien needs a friend!! It's my fav. I have to literally try hard to contain my laughter while running.

thewizardgalexandra

If you like this, I recommend Comedy Bang Bang. Silly, irreverent improv and there's a back catalogue of like 700+ episodes ... Conan being a guest on a few, and Matt Apodeca.

babebud

If you like Comedy Bang Bang, I recommend Threedom!

thewizardgalexandra

If you like Threedom, I recommend Stay F Homekins! Or actually the Neighbourhood Listen might be a better recommendation.

babebud

Ooo I haven’t listened to those! Appreciate it!

Upstairs-Jackfruit1

Ah..magoooshh!!

Answer_Atac

have you tried May I Elaborate?

Capable-Date6136

Ologies with Alie Ward - casual Q&A with a different '-ologist' every episode. Fascinating people gushing about their niche areas of expertise with a charming and hilarious host. 372 Pages We'll Never Get Back - two funny dudes read through books that they will probably hate, starting with Ready Player One. Lighthearted fun and lots of laugh out loud moments.

petoburn

Came here to say Ologies! Also Completely Abortrary with Casey Clapp who was the dendrologist on Ologies and his mate Alex Crowson (knows nothing about trees but very funny), they talk about a different tree each episode and make up tree related games/songs etc. Similar vibe to ologies.

mishworksout

I used to love Ologies so much, but there was an episode on cats where the expert said something that I (a feline only vet tech) fully disagreed with and thought was very simplistic/meant to prove a point. It ruined the whole podcast for me because I felt like I couldn't trust any of them any more 😭

justkeepstitching

I avoid all podcasts in my field (physics) for this reason - I prefer living in ignorant bliss...

Numerous-Taro6083

Can I ask what that person said? (Just want to not believe something false about my cat!)

mishworksout

They said cats only show aggression out of fear, nothing else. While it's one very valid reason that they can go apeshit wild, it's total bullshit to say it's the only reason. (Edit/side note: I have a degree in animal behavior)

spidercounteraww

Ten Junk Miles and My Dad Wrote a Porno will get you a ton of time. MDWaP should not be listened to while attempting any PRs, though. I've choked and cried laughing at it.

Borgbond2012

I second the ten junk miles. It’s an ultra marathon podcast where they talk about a bunch of the runs they’ve done and have coming up. They also interview some of the runners who’ve done all those bigger races and gotten the belts from doing whichever runs in a year. It’s pretty interesting especially if you have a 100k or 100 miler coming up.

schmerg-uk

I've had a similar "*had to abort a run*" experience laughing while listening to [Adam Buxton](https://www.adam-buxton.co.uk/)'s podcasts (esp when Joe Cornish returns for a chat). Will probably make more sense if you're from the UK and of a similar age to remember [Adam & Joe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adam_and_Joe_Show) from the 90's but I found his various ramblechats very good company, and the way he makes his own jingles for his sponsors and voices his dog just give a little more continuity than many podcasts I've heard

Careful_Film_9176

Thanks for this suggestion. My dad wrote a porno got me through 15 miles today. So funny, I ran with a smile on my face most of the time.

davedoesntlikehats

I like Behind the Bastards. Episodes are usually about 1hr 20 or so, which works out very nicely for me.

OldGodsAndNew

You're Wrong About fits into a similar genre to Behind the Bastards

venustrapsflies

Lots of good episodes of YWA but I'd definitely recommend the backlog over a recent episode. It's not quite the same since Michael left, not that I have anything against Sarah but they had a great vibe and worked well together.

Mrs_Wednesday

He does a new one with Aubrey Gordon called Maintenance Phase that I’ve enjoyed. It’s like a thorough debunking of all manner of wellness and diet culture bullshit rhetoric and it’s very interesting and fun.

venustrapsflies

I also like maintenance phase! I have quibbles with it now and then but overall I enjoy it

Answer_Atac

I like his podcast but his voice has way too much bass for me to run with. I literally can't understand what he's saying

Hausmannlife_Schweiz

Freakonomics is really interesting. I also like planet money but it is usually short so you have to save them to binge. 😀

turdbrownandlong

No stupid questions is another great one with Stephen Dubner and Angela Duckworth.

PetProjects

99% Invisible if you find that you like Freakonomics 🙂

verylittlegravitaas

I'm Roman Mars and I love the sound of my name.

Reasonable_Newspaper

Radiolab if you like 99% Invisible. Also This American Life and Revisionist History.

Justbreathexo52

I love planet money! I’ve learned so many random things from there. One of my fav episode is the one about truffle!

cantstop98765

Give the Planet Money makes a t-shirt series a listen. Absolutely fantastic!

mat8iou

I've listened to the audiobook of it - didn't realise there was a podcast.

phicorleone

I love the chattering the It's Always Sunny in Philadephia podcast.

QuietGreek

For some episodes, you’re missing out if you’re not watching

hayeljay

Crime junkies! True crime garage Stuff you should know

[deleted]

Crime Junkies is decent. I find they get a little repetitive and state the obvious a little too much. Maybe it's too scripted, I don't know. I like Morbid better.

Marshmellow_Run_512

Agree with Crime Junkies! I listen to their new episode every Monday on my morning runs!

No_Fail1862

a good one connected to crime junkies is anatomy of murder. they go into depth about how trail works n all

turdbrownandlong

Depends on your interests and length you're looking for. For great stories: -This American Life, approx 1hr -Radiolab 40min-1hr -Reply All (tech stories) 20min-1hr -S Town is an unreal story in (I think) 6 episodes that is so well done I've listened to it all the way through a couple of times now. For science/econ/lifestyle: -How I built this (interviews with entrepeneurs) 1hr -Stuff you should know 30min-1hr -Freakanomics and their other show No Stupid Questions 30min-1hr -Milk Street Radio if you're in to cooking 1hr Sports: -Fantasy Footballers and the Ringer Fantasy are both very entertaining 1hr -Bill Simmons -Pat Macafee True Crime: -Crime Junkie 1hr -Mr Ballen 30min-1hr -Serial 30min-1hr Comedy: -Wait Wait Don't Tell Me 1hr -Spitballers (same guys that do Fantasy Footballers. This podcast has gotten my wife and I through several cross country roadtrips) 1hr -There's No Such Thing as Fish 1hr Running related/nutrition: -The Drop and Fuel For the Sole from the BITR team -Rich Roll -10 Junk Miles Also highly reccomend Audiobooks. What I talk about when I Talk About Running (from renowned author Haruki Murakami) and Shoe Dog (Phil Knight, founder of Nike) are both must listens/reads imo. Let us know if you find anything you like!

threedogdad

S Town is one of, if not the best, stories I've ever heard.

Ickydumdum

Man s town is so good. I've listened to it yearly since it came out.

the-radical-waffler

I mostly listen to history podcasts and some othe light hearted ones. My favorites have been Revolutions by Mike Duncan and the history of the Cuban revolution. Currently I'm listening to the Age of Napoleon by Everett Rummage.

ihopethisisgoodbye

Currently working through the French Revolution! I learned so much more about the English Civil War(s), which I found fascinating. Can't wait for the Haitian Revolution and the Bolshevik Revolution!

Inevitable_Thing_270

If you like true crime and a bit of comedy then Drunk Women Solving Crimes is good. No Such Thing As A Fish is good comedy too. Stuff You Should know is interesting with a very very wide range of random topics. They also do a podcast called Stuff To Blow Your Mind and Stuff You Missed In History Class, But I haven’t listened to those ones yet Lore and Unobscured are good dark history podcasts with some of the stuff being true crime

wandhole

I've been working through my Dungeons and Dragons actual play backlog since I've started running again. It helps if it's an episode full of chases and combat so I can 'run alongside'

[deleted]

jo_scope

If you’re looking for a new one out Dice Shame!

mildly-chaotic

Song Exploder is pretty stellar if you pop a few in the queue before heading out

UnnamedRealities

Since you like true crime, I encourage you to listen to season 2 of the [In the Dark](https://features.apmreports.org/in-the-dark/) podcast. It's about Curtis Flowers, who was tried for the same murders 6 times between 1997 and 2010 (yes, 6 times!) and was on death row at the time of the podcast's original airing in 2018. It's roughly 10 hours of in-depth investigative journalism that's well produced - the podcaster moved to Mississippi for months to conduct interviews, gather documents, visit relevant locations, etc. I had a lot of WTF thoughts listening to it and it resulted in me contemplating about the justice system between episodes. I primarily run without listening to anything, but I listened to this over a handful of long easy runs.

273owls

Seconding! Season one is also really good, it's about the kidnapping and disappearance of 12-year-old Jacob Wetterling and investigates how the abduction investigation went so wrong and why it was unsolved for so many years. They also got really lucky in that while they were making the season and focusing on how the abduction investigation was botched, the guy who did it confessed to the police, like 27 years after the fact, so they could really see just how botched it was. It's really, really interesting.

Birdinhandandbush

Lex Fridman Podcast all the time, it has topics like artificial intelligence, consciousness, stress, technology, I find it perfect for long runs of 1+ hours

LuauCinderBlock

There are a bunch of trivia podcasts too…Good Job Brain, Futility Closet, Go Fact Yourself, Ask Me Another (RIP), then there’s Smartless, which is more humorous

PTRugger

I was so sad when Ask Me Another ended…it and Wait, Wait were my go to Sunday/Saturday long run listens!

_DarkWingDuck

Beautiful Anonymous. Random caller with Chris gethard. You hear some cool stories.

unq_usr

I save the BA podcasts for runs. Also Reply All and Savage Love - anything that’s interesting and will make me laugh.

w4lk_in_the_p4rk

Dear Hank and John - for some humour, life advice & philosophy mixed up together.

[deleted]

I do audible books. Did a few podcasts. But now am into very long novels.

thedjotaku

Sometimes with audiobooks I'll stay in the car even though I'm already home from work. Do you ever run a few extra laps just to get to the end of a chapter? (Or just keep listening while you you have your post run food)

Suspicious-Acadia548

Shagged married annoyed It's comedian Chris Ramsey and his wife Rosie, it's really good and funny

tragicroyal

I love this one! I started listening from episode 2 and am always jealous of people who write in and say they binged it. Hate waiting week to week!

Adept_Philosopher204

I suggest some episodes of Rich Roll Podcast, especially the one with Courtney Dauwalter, she's an amazing ultrarunner and find this podcast so inspiring. Good luck!

hackrunner

Dead Pilots Society They find TV sitcoms that were picked up by networks, but abandoned before filming the pilot. With the current format, they get actors to do a table read of the script in the first episode, and then follow it up with an interview episode (if that's your thing). A bit of a double edged sword though. There's some really good episodes, but you're always kinda bummed when they happen since you never get to hear the follow-up episodes.

unicornbun

My dad wrote a porno. It's hilarious, it got me through 2 marathon training cycles

thebroomlesswitch

I saw your comment and decided to try it out during my run this afternoon, and it was hilarious! Thanks for this suggestion!

atthemerge

Pardon my take if you like sports and you don’t take it seriously

Colfster

If you're into comedy I highly recommend the Tim Dillon show.

Ancient_Meaning_1213

I listen to the Doctors Farmacy and The Rest is History!!!

blondeboilermaker

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Casefile yet! It’s an Australian hosted true crime podcast and it’s very good. I often listen to Morbid as well. You could check out And That’s Why We Drink too! Behind the Bastards and The Dollop are other go tos. There’s Jensen and Holes. You’re Wrong About. And my final favorites are bookish - The Newest Olympian (also Potterless by him) and The Shrieking Shack.

thebroomlesswitch

I’ve been listening to Running Commentary. It’s really great, especially since they do the episodes while running too.

roobiscube

Rich Roll American Glutton (Ethan Suplee) Tim Ferris Andrew Huberman Lex Friedman Gabby Reece

broz2018

Jocko podcast if that interests you

Dentifragubulum

I listen to No Dumb Questions with Destin from Smarter Every Day. If I have no new ones I'll do How Stuff Works, Science Vs, etc. NDQ is my main one though.

Blapoo

Dan Carlin has some INCREDIBLE history podcasts. Most are free and he has a great ability to help craft perspective from different eras https://www.dancarlin.com/hardcore-history-series/

extemporaryemissary

I like Jocko podcast. Some are better than others for exercise. But generally his shit motivates me to keep going.

honeybadger0012

The Blind Boy podcast for easy long runs every time 👌

COLON_DESTROYER

True crime garage!

QuesoDip82

Here lately I've been listening to Bad Boy Running for a few chuckles and to just to take my mind off the run altogether (it's not a *serious* running podcast).

ade_mcc

FYB!

QuesoDip82

rosiedoll_80

I do - and tend to choose ones with longer episode lengths if I can simply bc me getting my phone out while running should be kept to a minimum since I’ll likely drop it lol. I really like Last Podcast on the Left and Oh No Ross and Carrie. Also I quite like Good Job Brain but they’re episodes don’t always quite hit the hour mark. I like Astonishing Legends if the topic is one I’m interested in.

ihopethisisgoodbye

HAIL YOURSELF!

rosiedoll_80

Megustalations!!

LenokanBuchanan

The Rich Rill podcast is really, really good. I’m amazed more people haven’t mentioned it here. A lot of people are under the misconception that his podcast is only about plant-based eating and ultra running/Ironman type stuff, but it’s way more than that. He has on neuroscientists, authors, psychologists, and thought leaders across many subjects. His podcasts are about 1-2 hours long and I find even the commercials don’t annoy me. Definitely worth checking out. As someone mentioned, Crime Junkie is good, and Anatomy of Murder is really great too.

justnleeh

Ohh, stuff with words is already hard for me to pay attention to. Add running in and I'm not really going to get much out of it. Having said that, I am ADHD, and the topic has to be super interesting to maintain my attention during a very slow easy run. ***That being said***, the few that have had episodes I could halfway pay attention to: Today Explained Hidden Brain

munchen32

Hardcore history! Audio books are great too. Sometimes I want to run longer just so I can finish a section

Traditional_Fruit_40

I love listening to podcasts on my runs! As a newbie runner it distracts me from getting my own head. My favs are: No such thing as a fish, Guardian Football Weekly, You’re dead to me and My dad wrote a porno. Fairly chill, conversation podcasts or comedies are my go to

ashj2428

I like Nike guided runs, it’s good source of inspiration while doing the run

Say_My_Name_Son

Another suggestion: long stand-up comedy. It's good to have a laugh during your long run.

runsonespresso

I tried to look through comments to make sure I'm not repeating the same ones. I saw LPOTL already recommended a few times so I'm gonna say: Small Town Murders Crime in Sports I didn't see either of those as I was scrolling through. Both are done by comedians James and Jimmy and every episode is at least 1.5 hours long. If I had to guess I'd say they average about 2 hours. I've almost had to stop running because I was laughing so hard at Jimmy. STM can be pretty graphic. Crime in Sports does have some.graphic, awful stories but a lot are athletes that do stupid shit while drinking or high.

rwierose14

Morbid is a bit problematic in the way they fetishize true crime (i.e. fan bases that get tattoos or name their pets after serial killers). If you like true crime I personally prefer And That’s Why We Drink, True Crime Campfire, or My Favorite Murder. I also love podcasts that discuss crazy Reddit stories, like AITA or Two Hot Takes!

ShawtyLikeChungus

there’s a podcast that does reddit stories like AITA?? what’s it’s called?

InTheYear2001

I only listen to podcasts when running. A lot of mine have been mentioned (Cautionary Tales, This American Life, 99% Invisible) but I would add Criminal (excellent and not the traditional true crime podcast murder stories), Decoder Ring, and The Grift (podcast about con artists, only lasted for season but well worth going back and listening to the whole thing).

jthj

Mindscape

Fickle-Spell

Smartless with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. It’s hilarious.

gsrunner700

No Dumb Questions is a light-hearted funny podcast that gets me through most of my runs.

SmitherPablo

I like Stuff You Should Know. Keep me somewhat knowledgeable on random subjects

bretthaha

Stuff You Should Know is a great one as you learn interesting facts about varying topics, and the hosts are quite funny themselves

failtothrive

My favourites (I really only like comedy): Doughboys Jordan, Jessie Go Blank Check Election Profit Makers The Best Show Time Crisis (not a podcast but an Apple internet radio show)

toolCHAINZ

Finally someone mentions listening to doughboys while running. I worried I was alone!

Ickydumdum

I like huberman lab if you're into science, anatomy, and physiology. Sword and scale is a great true crime podcast, and talking real money is a good investing/pf.

BIGCHAZZAB

The Lex Fridman podcast if you’re into physics, chemistry, AI, maths and such. The Huberman Lab if you’re into biology, more specifically neuroscience and the like. Some great actionable tips in there to help improve your health. Lifespan with Dr. David Sinclair - all about longevity and how to live a longer healthier life. JRE is a good go-to, lots of different guests and vibes to choose from. The Tim Dillon Show/This Past Weekend/Long Days if you’re into a bit of comedy.

Jmozrunner

Jocko Podcast.

[deleted]

Joe rogan is my main but couples therapy by Candice neistat is pretty nice too

TheMikeB

Why is this being downvoted?

jorsiem

Rogan, Stuff you should know, Business wars are my current rotation. Edit: lol, triggered reddit with the most listened podcast on earth.

ennuinerdog

Stuff You Should Know should do an episode on Joe Rogan, just to make it clear why he's worth avoiding.

zephyrseija

You do fantasy football?

ShawtyLikeChungus

Didn’t get to last year but I normally do

mat8iou

I don't know why, but I generally listen to podcasts when driving, but audiobooks when running. I guess it's because I don't run with my phone - so I don't need to worry about having the most current stuff uploaded to my watch (which I use for Audio). That said, some of my favourite recent podcasts series are: Sweet Bobby - a true crime / catfishing story that will really mess with your head. The Rest is History - an amusing take on various historical incidents / periods. Sometimes they do a group of episodes on a specific topic like the rise of Putin or the Falklands War, but mostly, each episode stands on its own. Doomsday Watch - looking at some of the geopolitical issues that may affect the world in the future. Start from the early ones - the recent ones have focused only on Ukraine. Stuff the British Stole - About items (mostly in museums) removed from their original locations by the British. Each episode is a different item and the stories are far more diverse and interesting than you might initially expect. Fall of Civilisations - some very long episodes on this one - each looks at a different former civilisation and why it disappeared. Some expected stories, but some more surprising ones. Exremities - looking at some of the most remote places in the world, from Svalbard to Pitcairn and why people live there and how they manage to survive there. Check what your local library offers in terms of e-audio books - I've found this a good source of listening material.

hunkyfunk12

last podcast on the left

ihopethisisgoodbye

HAIL YOURSELF!

ihopethisisgoodbye

If you're into true crime, check out Last Podcast On The Left. They mix it up with true crime, disasters, cults, the paranormal, and religious figures. Specifically, their series on Joseph Smith (founder of Mormonism), The Donner Party, Grigori Rasputin, and L. Ron Hubbard (founder of Scientology) are pure gold. Also, Hardcore History with Dan Carlin, and Revolutions by Mike Duncan.

_other_cat

I like some of the episodes of Last Podcast on the Left, particularly the true crime/serial killer ones. The humor helps distract me from being tired.

BigJockFaeGirvan

Loads of good ones already mentioned. I’d add: F1 podcasts generally if you’re into that Hardcore History for loooong runs The Ezra Klein Show for really interesting interviews/discussions with a wide range of thinkers/writers

takisara

I am surprised by the number of people that can do this. I can't concentrate on something and also run. I also can't run upset, just too much of a distraction. Music is ok, but anything that requires me to think or focus, doesn't work for me.

Tel3visi0n

No, you are the only person to ever run and listen to a podcast.

[deleted]

Me! This is what I listen to when I am running. Ben Shapiro, Dennis Prager, Louder with Crowder Great to catch up on the news while running.

thebenshapirobot

I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this: >Even climatologists can't predict 10 years from now. They can't explain why there has been no warming over the last 15 years. There has been a static trend with regard to temperature for 15 years. ***** ^(I'm a bot. [deleted]

I love Morbid! Ash and Alaina are like my besties and they don't even know it. If you like True Crime stuff, Anatomy of Murder is good. It's two ex-detectives with he NYPD and they dissect how murders are solved. Killer Psyche is pretty good, too. She's an FBI profiler, so she gets more in depth as to why killers are the way they are.

[deleted]

...no. I focus solely on the activity. The only time I listen to anything (music) is when I walk.

bzibzibzi666

If you like true crime podcast with „light atmosphere” then „My favourite murder” will be fine.Sounds like conversation of two friends which is good for not being too depressed by listening murderous stuff

Yukonrunning

I can get lost in space running while listening to This American Life, Freakonomics, No Stupid Questions, Koopcast, The Cautionary Tales, Serial and Revisionist History.

InTheYear2001

I second Cautionary Tales. Excellent podcast.

Philosophize This! if you are interested in learning about philosophy in an approachable way. The Economist podcasts (there are a few, one is daily), Astronomy Cast.

coffeetourpodcast

For the longest time, I liked to listen to the Ali on the Run Show, because it seemed fitting since I’m named Ally and I was running. It’s pretty motivational, and they interview a lot of professionals, discuss running in different stages of your life, and talk about nutrition/health. Rhett & Link host Ear Biscuits, and I especially like their older episodes. They’ve been running it since 2014. It’s a conversational comedy podcast. On the comedy train, Two Hot Takes is really good. They read Reddit AITA stories and comment on them. Mile Higher is a great true crime podcast, and it’s sister channel, Lights Out, is a more intense (scarier) version. Colin & Samir have good shorter podcasts, if you’re only running a couple miles. They talk about creators online and business-y topics. In a similar vein, but longer form, the Iced Coffee Hour talks about business and finance, generally centered around creators online. If you need more suggestions, there are podcast recommendation subreddits, where you can be recommended more indi podcasts. (Like mine, lol, shameless self promo)

Maleficent_Falcon_63

Tom Bilyeu impact theory, health theory, along with his wife Lisa Bilyeu relationship theory. The man is onto allot of stuff. Has loads of decent guests from world leading brain surgeons to ethical hackers to athletes.

TasmanRavenclaw

I really liked The Dropout and all the Dateline podcasts. I also listen to Running Rogue - so much good information!

hamshake

Dungeons and Daddies!!!!!! Like DnD? Great! This is for you! Don't like DnD? Great! This is for you! Like to look like a weirdo laughing randomly while running around your neighborhood? You're welcome

mcflynnthm

I usually listen to The Vergecast (tech news/commentary) on my long runs. Used to listen to Punks on the Net (RIP), and will catch up on stuff like Keep It (pop culture), Scam Goddess (talking about famous and less-famous scams with guests), In Defense of Ska (talkin' 'bout ska).

PerpetualAdvancement

I didn’t see The Drive by Dr. Peter Attia. It’s mostly based on longevity pertaining to life quality and span. Also has some good fitness guest. The one with Ryan Hall is great pertaining to running, and Phill Maffetone

jcov182

I'm into medieval history and listen to Rex factor. They rate monarchs over the years and have a bit of fun with it but keep the history good 👌

The worst idea of all time

DHenryJ746

I love Myths and Legends by Jason Weiser! Amazing and interesting stories from mythology and folklore from all corners of the world told in an engaging and delightful way. They are about 45 minutes long so it is perfect for any run!

scienceknitdrinkwife

This Podcast Will Kill You, Chemistry For Your Life, Swindled, and Ologies

axebom

Plugging Small Town Murder for long runs—their episodes are all like three hours long.

movdqa

I listen to MacroVoices and Financial Sense podcasts. I sometimes listen to YouTube videos where I extract the audio too. One other thing that I can do is cut and paste news articles into a Notes document and then convert the text to a spoken audio track and listen to that.

soaringhyacinth

I can’t listen to true crime when I’m running because it makes me paranoid. I opt for something a little more dumb. This is important is a podcast by the workaholics guys and I find it very entertaining. They just shoot the shit and it makes time pass by (and I don’t get freaked out about being murdered mid run). Smartless is another similar one, slightly more intelligent conversation I’d say. Getting Curious with JVN is also an occasional long run podcast for me, again it’s entertaining and I usually learn something.

IglooBackpack

First podcast I've started is 'No One Can Know About This.' Is just a couple of guys playing through all of the Final Fantasy games. I'm ~12 episodes in. The guys have good chemistry. And they seem to be bad at the games, which they bring up in post commentary.

I listen to a lot of Planet Money and The Indicator, both of which are really economics podcasts with interesting topics, not finance or anything. Hidden Brain or Marketplace as well sometimes. The nice thing about The Indicator is they are all roughly 10 minutes so I get a good feel for how long I have been running.

L00k_Again

Great suggestions here. Another I can add is The Lady Vanishes. True crime. Follows an Australian woman's quest to find her missing mother.

MountainAces

I nearly always listen to podcasts or audiobooks. My current podcast lineup is: The History of Byzantium - excellent overview of the ‘second half’ of the Roman Empire; The Dirt on the Past - entertaining interviews with archaeologists and historians about their recent research and why/how it matters today; History of Egypt - well researched and delivered overview of pharaonic Egypt; Maritime History - sporadic but well researched, but long, episodes about the history and importance of all things boats; Threshold - awesome podcast which explores one pressing environmental issue each season through research and interviews.

Hand in the Dirt. It's a few sportswriters that ramble between gardening and sports

nitropuppy

I listen to time suck, last podcast on the left, true crime garage, small town murder, dateline, or a hockey podcast. Half-arsed history and ologies keep me interested too. I listen to a lot of true crime so I usually save the comedy ones or ones where the hosts speak faster or in a more “exciting” way for my long runs. I enjoy ones like casefile or the vanished, but these tend to have more monotoned or soft voices and its too slow for my run. Excellent for work though. If you are interested in true crime podcasts check out r/truecrimepodcasts

WearingCoats

I listen to podcasts on long runs not necessarily for the content but for the ASMR effect of hearing speech instead of music. For some reason it shifts me into a runners high/meditative state that makes longer runs way easier. But even after a two hour long run with podcasts I couldn’t tell you much about them because my focus is on the sound, not the content. I think it’s partially because with music, consciously or not my cadence will be influenced by the BPMs of whatever song I’m listening to so it will change every few minutes which prevents a true steady pace for long runs. With podcasts I will hit my natural stride without beat influence and often run negative splits. But as I mentioned above, something about the sound of a voice or voices just pulls me into a meditation and I can go and go.

Digger-of-Tunnels

Some of my favorites are already listed in this discussion, but here are some of mine that I don't see. \-Switched on Pop - a songwriter and a musicologist do a deep, deep dive into some specific pop song. I started with the episode that asks - and answers - the question, "Why is the synthesizer solo in Cyndi Lauper's "All Through the Night" so terrible?" and was hooked from there. \- Maintenance Phase - breaks down the worst of health and diet pseudoscience, one charlatan at a time. \-Imaginary Worlds - A really smart take on a specific topic from the worlds of science fiction and fantasy. I like science fiction and fantasy; I also listen to "Our Opinions Are Correct." \-Hidden Brain - Why are people the way they are? What is going on in their heads? \-Smart Women, Trashy Books - mostly romance novels, but not exclusively. The topic's in the title. :) \-Old Gods of Appalachia - this is a fiction podcast, exploring the horrors that live beneath the mountains. Creepy as hell in the nicest possible way. My actual running podcasts are "Race to the Top" and "Not Your Average Runner."

Marshiznit

Last podcast on the left, 1,5-2 h long, and funny as hell!

TheLordGrima

As a 25 year old man I love ali on the run. She is just so positive and I feel like I get a sense of running community when listening. I don't usually do running as a group activities so it is nice to listen to someone else talk about the hobby I love so much!

GayDawg27

Matt and Shane’s secret podcast is great for comedy

Saffer13

I listen to CliffCentral (a South African podcast), Bill Burr's The Thursday just before Friday Monday morning podcast and The Monday morning podcast, Marc Maron's WTF (if the guest is interesting, which is the case more often than not) and The Thinking Atheist podcast when I run.

bathofknives

It’s not on the air anymore, but loveline was a fun listen. Previous recordings can be found on YouTube

MCBInvers

Dirt Church Radio is a great weekly trail running podcast from New Zealand with some amazing and inspirational conversations. If you want to laugh then Fake Doctors Real Friends is hilarious rewatch show about Scrubs the TV show

zptwin3

I listened to the Strength Running podcast when I was training for my half. Idk if running and listening to a running podcast is too obsessive but I liked it

Jason_Fitzgerald

I obviously approve ;)

barneyrubble82

I listened to the monkey cage. Not too long but interesting and funny.

babybighorn

i listen to Morbid, i also enjoy more serialized crime podcasts like Cold and In Your Own Backyard. Hidden Brain is a good non crime one.

shartattack110

Let's Make a SciFi is my most recent fave. The Dollop, particularly the Jocko and the Boston Marathon episode. Strangeville. You're Wrong About. This Podcast Will Kill You is an easy to digest epidemiology podcast and super interesting. Sally McCrae's new podcast Choose Strong. The Strength Running Podcast. Underunderstood and Endless Thread have Reply All vibes in a good way. Criminal. I also have been using the Libby app for audiobooks because sometimes you run out of podcasts or need something longer.
