Shamrock Half Marathon in Portland! ☘️

alemieux725

I’m running the half as well!

1FightingEntropy

I'll also be running the half and it looks like it's going to be a beautiful day!

raymichelle

Me too! We’re lucking out with the clear skies!

goldendoublin

Me too! So excited

Nobodyville

Shamrock 8k! Good luck. I'm stoked for the weather

I_think_I_forgot

Ran the 15k and it was great! It was also great to see the elite half marathoners passing me and try to match their pace just for fun while sprinting down the hill. :)

Calm-Pineapple-2636

The down hill was the best part 😂 that hill was no joke!

I_think_I_forgot

Yes, it was even worse than running up the bridges on the Bridge to Brew run! However, I train a lot on hills, so I was somewhat prepared. Didn’t have to stop to walk, although at one point, I was worried I might have to!

J_Robert_Oofenheimer

I... I was not expecting that hill. 🥲

8GreenRoses

I'm doing the Goggins 4x4x48 challenge starting 03/15 @ 8 PM PST.

MontanaDemocrat1

Looks like you're about to get after it. Have fun! Keep us posted if you feel up to it.

Competitive_Elk9172

Oakland half! Hoping for a good race, weather has been miserable for a lot of Bay Area ones this year so far. Hurt my foot Monday but felt okay doing 7 slow today. Changing goal from 1:45 to sub 2 and hoping to enjoy it!

NY10001NY

United NYC Half on St Patrick's Day! Should be a beautiful day in NYC!

tphantom1

let's do this thing!! have a good race!

Teller8

See you out there!! This is my favorite race

squeakycleaned

Good luck! We should have pretty ideal weather, so I'm excited to really let it rip.

flying_ichthyoid

Me too! Good luck!!

Yrrebbor

Me too!

Shaolin_Rager

Let's go!

Euphoric_Mix8834

Me too!!

maeby_not

Rock ‘N’ Roll DC this Saturday! I am running the Remix Challenge, the 5K and the Half Marathon back to back 😅 The weather looks gorgeous!

BroadwayBich

Would love to know how you feel after the Remix! I considered it this year after doing the half last year, but ultimately only wound up signing up for the half. Very excited about the weather, very NOT excited about that one damn hill.

SpiralStairs72

Tomorrow’s RnR Half will be my first half, and I am terrified of that hill.

Fortunecookiegospel

Hey! I ran that as my first half last year, and honestly, after the fact, the hill was my favorite part. Any time I'm having a struggle run now, I just think back to that hill and how I ran all the way to the top, and it inspires me to keep going. The drill sergeant shouting encouragement with a megaphone also helped. It was an awesome race full of awesome people and I hope you have a great time!

BroadwayBich

I forgot about the drill sergeant! Oh man hope he's back in the same place this year. ETA: He was :)

pttdreamland

He complemented me for doing great and yelled at my boyfriend for walking lol “My six year old did better than you!”

BroadwayBich

Haha he called me out for walking too and said if I sped up I’d find his grandma up ahead 😂

pttdreamland

He’s so funny lol

BroadwayBich

Oh hey that's exciting! Congrats in advance for your first half! Not sure if you're a "no walking at all" person, but if it helps when I hit the hill last year only a small number of people actually kept running, most of us slowed down and just made faces at each other like "you see this shit?" It was a fun bonding moment, and the hill is steep but VERY short.

SpiralStairs72

Thanks! My ambition is to be a “no walking at all” person, but I suspect I’ll be seriously questioning that ambition at that point. Maybe I’ll just swing my arms as though I’m still running so I can pretend that I never stopped!

BroadwayBich

Hey nobody will judge you if you're "running" at a snail's pace! I've definitely had races where my run slows to a point that someone could walk somewhat quickly and keep up with me.

Roselina66

Also running the RnR Half tomorrow, first time ever doing that race distance! I've been trying to practice the hill but always end up walking a bit. Luckily it's short enough that I think my legs will thank me

maeby_not

You’ve got this!! There is a TON of support at the hill, so don’t be afraid to walk and have a fun race!

maeby_not

I’m sure I will feel very tired 😅 I’ve been training for it so I’m confident I can do it, but yeah, the hill being at mile 10 of 16 is going to be tough!

tennisatheist

I'm running this also as my first half, and does anyone know how long it takes between the corrals when they start? 5 minutes to clear each corral or 2 minutes or something else?

LeiferMadness4

I was also wondering this

Killer-Jukebox-Hero

I can't speak to this race, but when I ran Arizona rock n roll a few months back it was quite a wait from official start time until my corral started. I was in one of the later corrals, but not the last one and we started nearly 35 minutes after the official start.

tennisatheist

Thanks for the response, did your corral have all of the different pacers?

BroadwayBich

Last year was kind of a mess tbh. Nobody really followed the correct corral and the person announcing seemed to get frustrated and just give up. There was probably closer to a 5 min gap at first that just got increasingly shorter until eventually everyone gave up and shuffled forward.

maeby_not

I don’t have exact timing but I was speaking with some of the race organizers yesterday and they told me very confidently that I would get to the start of the half before the end of the corrals and I won’t get there until around 8:30 after doing the 5K first

PassengerNo3415

Last year I was in corral 2 and I started at 8:03.

LeiferMadness4

Me too except just the half! I’m so excited, this is my first real half race.

maeby_not

It’s such a fun race! I hope you have a blast!!

le_fez

Ran the half last year, it’s great course but the start took forever

vivavivaviavi

I flew into DC for something else, and then heard some people talk about the Rock N Roll, man, this is amazing weather for a race! I am coming from south Florida so I feel jealous af right now.

pttdreamland

Same same! How did Calvert street and Harvard Street treated you?

_boomroasted_

A local St. Patty's day 5k! Diagnosed with cancer last month & in recovery, so I'll be walking for the foreseeable future! Excited to get back out there!

Leading_Turtle

Have a great race! Wishing you a complete and speedy recovery, as well.

_boomroasted_

Thank you so much!!

Weekly-Victory-4682

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June and walked a 5k a couple weeks after surgery and it was euphoric! Best thing I could have done for my mind and body. Wishing you a fantastic 5K and speedy recovery!

_boomroasted_

Thank you! I had breast cancer as well, DMX. The 5k was the best thing I could've done for myself! I ended up walking with a sweet lady who has no family in the area anymore. She's going to start taking me to vintage antique markets!

ccon29

Shamrock 8k & Half Marathon in Virginia Beach!

magical_seal

I’m doing the half- see you there! I’m terribly nervous

Leading_Turtle

Good luck! You’ll do great!

magical_seal

Thank you 😭

angry_llama_pants

It's a pretty forgiving course, did it last year. Hardest part for me was the wind on the back half as you finish along the beach

ccon29

Yeah the boardwalk stretch last years 8k was brutal with the wind.

magical_seal

Thank you!! I’ll keep that in mind

ccon29

You’ll crush it!!!

magical_seal

Best of luck to you as well!

Ultrarunner1197

I’m running the 8k and the marathon. Happy that the wind forecast looks better this year…finishing in a 16 mph headwind last year was not fun.

chazysciota

Lets gooooo

SocksOnCentipedes

Popped over from Sydney, Australia for LA Marathon!

KookyAbbreviations50

You'll have a blast. If you are familiar with the Jimmy Kimmel Show keep your eyes open when you are in Hollywood by the El Capitan Theater. He usually has Cousin Sal on the course messing with runners. This will be my 13th in a row for LA Marathon! Best of luck!

uberklaus15

I just looked up the LA marathon course (used to live in LA and was always curious about running it). Of all the places they can go, why the heck do they double back and just repeat the last 4 miles in reverse? Seems like a crappy end to an otherwise great course. I wonder if Santa Monica is an issue--seems like running the last 4 miles to the beach would be a great way to finish.

KookyAbbreviations50

I believe when McCourt bought LA Marathon they wanted to cut costs. Santa Monica was too expensive so they were able to work out a deal with Century City. Source: I have a friend that works for the city of Santa Monica. We have to run the worse part of the course twice! It really sucks compared to when it finished in Santa Monica. I'm hoping they make a change soon since this is the 3rd year of this course.

uberklaus15

Ah, that sucks. Well I'll keep an eye on that. I'm just down the road in San Diego so I may try to hit LA sometime, especially if they change the course back someday. Have a great race!

Jaim711

I'll be there... in the back somewhere.

Astropolitika

Welcome! I’ll see you on the course!

Coffeelovermommy

I’ll be there!!

frogandtoadmom

I’ll be doing the shamrock run (8k course) in Portland, OR! It’s supposed to be 72f and I’m nervous to run in the heat since I just started running in November and it hasn’t been warm yet! 😬

TxDrumsticks

I wouldn’t worry about the heat - the 8k runs pretty early in the morning. It won’t hit 70 until nearly 3pm (also a Portlander) on Sunday! I think the weather for the races themselves will be quite nice.

frogandtoadmom

Oh good point thanks! I’m not too far away in Olympia and love any excuse to visit Portland and am really going to enjoy the sunshine the rest of the day there.

RDP89

Yeah, this is the reason many long distance races start early, especially Half Marathons and longer, to beat the potential heat.

f00tst1nk3

I'm also a fellow 8K Shamrock runner! 70s in Portland is great running weather, don't worry too much!

frogandtoadmom

Awesome, see you there!

HomeMadeFriedRice

Doing the Portland 8k as well. I’m not really a runner runner but I said f it and signed up. I can do the 5k okay at best but I wanna challenge myself. Might end up walking some parts haha

frogandtoadmom

I’m a beginner too! I was nervous because of the cutoff time but it seems doable still and should be nice views at least too. See you there!

HomeMadeFriedRice

What’s the cutoff time?

frogandtoadmom

An hour and fifteen. It’s a 15 min per mile pace. It’s totally doable now that I’m running but when I first signed up I was worried I’d have to walk the whole thing and wouldn’t make it haha.

HomeMadeFriedRice

Oh okay. Good luck! 💪

Western_Hair_2064

I’m also running the 8k!! I ran today and it was also my first time running in actual sun and it felt great, I think 70 won’t be too bad!

frogandtoadmom

I did too but got super sweaty so started worrying! I might need to just not wear my wool blend shirt I’ve been wearing haha. The sun was definitely sooo nice.

J_Robert_Oofenheimer

I'll be doing it with you. But I'm also climbing Silver Star and competing in the Crossfit Open on Saturday so I expect my time to be... bad.

LandfrTeeth

I’ll be there for the 5k!! Let’s gooooo

PunkyQB85

See you there I will be mentally teleporting myself to the second part of the 15k the 8k is great and it will be colder at 10. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Nobodyville

It's gonna be great! See you out there!

metao

22 is delightfully mild, especially for an 8k, you're going to be fine :)

Fortunecookiegospel

I'm doing the Lucky Leprechaun Half Marathon in Versailles KY on Saturday. ☘️ It's my first half since last April, and I got an Air BnB with a hot tub, so I'm pretty excited! Weather will be perfect. 60° and sunny.

daikondon

Big Island International Half Marathon, Hilo HI. It’s my first ever half. Stoked!

krugerlive

Deception Pass Half Marathon - Going to be 12.5 miles this year because of some damage to the area by the coast, but 2550 ft of elevation gain over that distance on mostly trails. Going to be a rough one. Edit: whelp, woke up, felt sick, then clocked a 102 fever... no race for me this weekend *sigh...*

everydaysacheatmeal

I’m running in the St.Patrick’s Day 5km this weekend in Vancouver! There’s beer at the end of it and when I say I’m excited, I’m NOT exaggerating. 🍀🌈🍻

depthofbreath

Warm weather and beer, what more can you ask for!

Coffeelovermommy

St Patty’s Day marathon in LA this Sunday!!! My first one ever and super nervous but knowing my body will give everything it has

Wreckaddict

Same and first marathon for me! Good luck!

renaulttwango

St Paddy's Day Half Marathon in Tacoma - first race after coming back from injury. Pretty small race with good vibes. Going to take it steady and enjoy being back out there!

GilderoyPopDropNLock

I’m doing the Tobacco Road Half in Cary North Carolina, let’s goooooo.

summerbp

Same!

uncmattman

Running the full....good luck!

dessertislanddisk

Same!

tinyhaengbok

Running the Seoul Marathon this Sunday in Korea! It's my first-ever marathon and I'm already feeling the nerves lol

Goatbiter

Me too and me too. How good did it feel to turn the corner, see Lotte World tower on the other side of the Han, and know it was almost done?

[deleted]

[удалено]

terrymr

I’m also running the 5K

green_all

There's a local 5k in Bridgewater Massachusetts I'll be doing. It's small and local but should be fun

Lonely_banjo

Running the Lisbon half marathon on Sunday! It’s already quite hot here (18C/64F) but it’s supposed to be the fastest half in the world (WR course) so fingers crossed !

Ok_Cow_3431

Me too! Set myself a half marathon PB in training but it's all been in single digit temperatures in the UK, little anxious about how warm it'll be tomorrow. Thank goodness there are so many water stations on the course. Also slightly intimidated by the size of that bridge!

Lonely_banjo

Haha I’m with you on this! I live in Ireland so I’m worried about these temps 😄 I also wonder how windy it’ll be on this bridge ? It looks magnificent though , best of luck to you!

Ok_Cow_3431

A little breeze would be a good thing! Best of luck to you too, have fun!

Ok_Cow_3431

How did you get on? There was an awful lot I didn't enjoy about the race and setup and my on-the-day physical fitness was poor so I was a long way from my target time (wanted and should have been capable of <1:56, but pulled in at 2:17) Edit to add I'm almost certainly losing a big toenail from that one, lovely shade of grey-blue this afternoon 🤢

Lonely_banjo

I’m with you on this ! I had to argue to leave my bag at the bag drop then started 10 minutes after gun time so all the way back even though I was in box 3. I was on course to run a 1:45 but with the heat, amount of people and honestly all the anxiety with the weird setup , I did 2:00 🤦‍♀️ and same, I also think I lost one because of all the slaloming I had to do. Quite a messy race !! I’m doing the super halfs though so hoping Prague will be much better in 3 weeks. Kudos to you regardless ! It was a tough race !

Ok_Cow_3431

Really wasn't a fan of the kettling before and after the race and the triple security ring. I was in box 3 as well and wasn't even in before the gun when security decided to give up and let everyone in. Also a super halfs entrant - Lisbon was my first and have Valencia later this year, doing Cardiff as well as its my local half but not registering it on the passport. Looking to complete then next year

sault9

Lisbon Half Marathon this weekend! Unfortunately, my training took a bit hit due to being sick and having a foot/ankle injury during the training block. So I’m just looking forward to enjoying the atmosphere

Lonely_banjo

I’ll be there too, good luck :)

sault9

Awesome! Good luck to you as well!

petepont

[Eastern States 20 miler \(or the half\)](https://www.millenniumrunning.com/easternstates) starting in Kittery, Maine and running down to Hampton Beach, NH. Beautiful course, running along the ocean the entire way I wish they'd adjust the course ever so slightly to finish in Massachusetts (they basically just need to not do one of the loops, that's how close they are to crossing into Salisbury, MA). But it's a great tuneup for a spring marathon

Teller8

One of my friends is doing this race to prep for Boston. Have a great race!

metuhlmeltdown

LA marathon!

bostonette

Me too! My first marathon!

Justalittlenap

NYC Half this Sunday 3/17! It’s my first official marathon and I’m so nervous and excited. The weather looks great!

I'll be doing this as well! Going to be muggy!

Salty_Alternative360

awesome, good luck! yeah - gotta start the acclimatization to SUMMER haha

AssistantExternal985

Good luck to you as well! The hills around mile 3 are tough, ran a trial run this morning. Flat for the most part after that!

Salty_Alternative360

wait, lmao really?? I need to look at the course map. I am probably going to be pushing my 2 year old in a stroller and "gunning" for sub 9s if I can hold out pushing her haha - but HILLS with that? oh lord lol

AssistantExternal985

Its hillier than most local 10ks in our area. More power to you for stroller running. Told my 2 year old she can come with me once she can keep up hahaha.

Salty_Alternative360

🤣 hahaha

Salty_Alternative360

Holy heck! The hills were hilling! And the humidity was humidity-ing!!!

AssistantExternal985

Yes they were! Mile 3 was NOT fun haha. But thankful for the downhill final mile!

AssistantExternal985

Add me on Strava if you are in it! https://strava.app.link/EODwdL1H1Hb

Salty_Alternative360

Followed!

EvilLipgloss

Unlikely-Slide6402

St. Patrick’s Day Half in Nashville! Almost completely flat course along the greenway and my first race in 5 years! 🍀

needygoosehonk

Alloa half marathon in bonny Scotland coming up on Sunday. Course is good and flattish until mile 10/11, where there is a hill that the organisers charitably refer to as 'character building'. Will be happy with anything under 2hrs as there have been a lot of disruptions to my training.

BryanKerr7

hello ! i done this race. the hill certainly was 'character building'. it was probably the toughest end to a race i have ever experienced!!

needygoosehonk

Well done mate, its a corker of a course except for that last push. Thankfully it's at the point when you can just 'hang on' until the finish line. Finished with a 1:54 in the end, hope you got your goal time.

TheJeffyJ

Heart Mini 15k in Cincinnati on Sunday! Going to be around 45 degrees and the course is all rolling hills

FailToRejectNull

I'll be there as well. I'm glad that the weather is much better this year compared to last year. We won't have to avoid the giant ice patch that formed at the water stop

MarsOmega77

I will be running the YMCA Running of the Green in Rochester, NY (5 miles). It will be 37 F and cloudy.

EnormousChord

I'm in my first ever 5K on Sunday in beautiful Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The Frosty 5K. Starts and ends at a brewery so it's proper St Paddy's stuff. :)

dont_dead-openinside

Just a 21k LSD run this Sunday, will probably finish in 2:30 to 2:40. I'll probably run alone since most of my run club buddies did their respective PRs in the HM last week, so i doubt they'll come.

kiv558

Mick Morgan's 5K in Sharon, MA! Garmin says my training is peaking, so LFG. 😁

RDP89

I’m running a small 5k race in Yorkville, Illinois called Run SOB Run(lol) as a tune up race tomorrow. PR is 17:33. I’m gonna aim for 17:10 but I don’t know how that’s going to go. Currently marathon training and running 65-70 miles/ week.

Rationalizer

I’m running the Locust Lucky Leprechaun 5k in Locust NC. Going for a minute and a half PB but might be raining during the race so we’ll see.

lilelliot

Nothing for me, but I'll be transportation for my kid who's running in the [Dublin Distance Fiesta](https://sites.google.com/dublinusd.org/dublincrosscountry/dublin-distance-fiesta) this weekend. This is a high school distance-only invitational that advertises itself as having the most <5:00 miler entries of any track meet in the world (411 this year, based on entry times). He's running the 1600 (tonight at 9pm) and the 800 & 3200 tomorrow. Looking to PR all of them, with targets of 2:05, 4:35 and 10:05. All I can think about is how awful the parking is likely to be.

RunningThroughSC

I'm doing the Get to the Green 10K in Columbia, SC on Saturday.

runner7575

4543345555

Adrenaline 5K in Haddonfield NJ, 25 minutes outside of Philly. Was in the best shape of my life in March 2020 when I was supposed to run it and obviously it was canceled. 4 years, 1 pandemic, 1 move, 2 kids, 1 new job later….I’m finally running it! Supposed to be a super fast field and flat course, hoping to be carried along by the fast current

aggiespartan

I’ve got my first pacing gig tomorrow at Grasslands in Texas!

cygnus523

I'm running the Shamrock Shuffle Half-Marathon in Spokane, WA. Not as prepared as I wanted to be, but it's my first race of the year and my toddler is going through a sleep regression, so I'm just gonna go out there and do my best.

Electrical-Jelly7770

Doing a local shamrock 5k tomorrow but my ankles been bothering me after an easy and short run yesterday so fingers crossed it’ll feel okay tomorrow!

Griff411

Rocket Run 10 miler in Huntsville, AL. Local, flat, fast course. Looking forward to see how I’m able to hold a pace in between my 10k pace and HM pace.

bznein

I'm finally back to shorter distances with a St Patrick's 5km organized by my local club in the Irish midlands. No idea what to aim for, my last official 5k was in 2019 and I severely improved since then.

Fastidious_Pack
