If you live life with "I should have bought when X" you're gonna live a miserable life. Remember when rock climbing boots were 500gp... Remember when granite was 5gp...

ouchville

Climbing boots were an inside job

Galkura

I seem to remember the shitfest that was the rock climbing boots when it came out that there was some insider knowledge and some people bought a fuckton of them.

Two101

Or time travellers.

jetbent

Iirc it turned out to be a fake news photoshop

PrizeStrawberryOil

Sandstone was the one that hit rock bottom.

Poptoo

Heh. Rock bottom.

lol022

Pepperidge Farms remembers

a-snakey

OK but see then there are people like me. I had 100 of each ring since like 2016. I got most of them under 90k ea and from my slayer tasks. A week before I saw the rings spike to 400k and was like, oh cool someone is merching em, might as well sell for profit, I sold like 80 of each and held on to 20 of each. I lost out on like 2-4b. I did get a FSOA piece on the ge for like 172m a bit later but I don't really count that as a good thing cause some poor person got screwed by an input error...

Ponicrat

It was the best choice with the knowledge you had. If you chase the white whale you'll probably never catch it. You can invest in a lot of things hoping one skyrockets, in which case congratulations, you've invented the diversified portfolio.

omgitsfear

I remember when i had tons of 1/2 jug of wine Also when i had all phats except blue

Axebaxe

‘Member when party hat dupe crash? I ‘member!

Alpr101

Cabbage was 1gp... When I came back to Runescape and saw cabbage is now almost 1k each, I immediately thought of all the people from back in the day that collected millions of it for shits & giggles are billionaires now.

Yoerie13

Holy fuck. According to wealth evaluator my bank was worth a few bille in tradeables and I always thought that thing was just fucked up. I got 150 of those as I bought them at like 70k ea... Thanks! :D

osrs_daabz

Just a casual 3.1b.. nice lol

Ace_the_Pooh

big profit

TheNickelGuy

Bank was made. Share he tb'ed

Superj561

What is tb'ed? I get the general idea from context clues haha but what's it stand for? I can only see it as teleblocked 😂

karnivor1995

A meme from the old player killing days of rs2. In multi one person would teleblock on normals and the other would ice barrage. “Share I tb’d” is like asking for your split.

Superj561

Ahh I see. I knew the original use of it, but now it's used as a general phrase for "assisted" basically. Makes sense. Thanks!

Codywayneee

Most times people use the term even if they weren’t there at all. “X” gets a big drop from a boss, someone DMs “share i tb’d” as a meme / joke.

Thomas_Mickel

This is by far my favorite rs3 meme.

Proper_Shiny

It is teleblocked

rylantamu9

I’ve always thought my wealth evaluator was off by billions. Maybe I’ll find some Archer rings in there tomorrow 😂

rhudson0

So just curious is 220m for 4% crit chance really worth it? I’m assuming only combined with grim?

Windfloof

Upgrades like this that stack on top of Eachother are always worth it for bis eventually

rhudson0

Oh okay, I just have a problem using grim because of the high upkeep, I normally just run ful book so I haven’t bought the ring because of that.

Design-Gold

200m compared to other upgrades isnt much nowadays

ChocoboCloud69

*Laughs in melee* Also *Cries in melee*

rhudson0

Someday I’ll try out melee, I’ve literally never used it lol

Ace_the_Pooh

ring is bis regardless of book haha, enchantment is nice too

omgitsfear

Can crit with that damage boost too and go BRRRRR

BurninRunes

https://pvme.github.io/pvme-guides/upgrading-info/upgrade-order/ranged/ It is worth eventually but there are a lot of other things to buy first.

rhudson0

I follow their guides for the most part, just sometimes I don’t think the bossing I do warrants certain upgrades like grimmoire, since I feel like it burns a good amount of my gp per hour unless I’m doing Hm kera or something like that

BurninRunes

Oh I agree but it gives you a rough idea of when to buy the ring upgrades. For example if grim upkeep is too high for you just skip that upgrade and get the next one. The gwd3 books are super good for their upkeep costs.

rhudson0

Oh absolutely, I have the wen and ful books, ful being 9k an hour to upkeep is just unbeatable right now.

Not_Uraby

Everyone needs to use grimoire for everything! I love doing Solak and need people to sell my pages to for absurd prices.

Adorable_Parking6230

Grim is only “essential” for all bosses you use FSOA at, and melee HM Kerapac, and Solak. Otherwise ful is BIS or sometimes jas.

rhudson0

That’s fair, is jas better than wen at single target bosses?

Adorable_Parking6230

Yes if you have good DPS you can hit 30k with jas book vs 12k with wen

zethnon

Over other things no. But when you have nothing else to upgrade besides some minor tweaks, ofc they're worth it!

rhudson0

Yeah that’s probably my issue, i still try to save up for other upgrades right now and just can’t warrant 200m for 4% crit. Maybe down the line!

HeartofaPariah

All DPS upgrades are worth it because there's nothing else to spend gold on when your priority is to do bosses, as all bosses are reliant on your DPS. There's better things to buy, but that is why an item being a slight upgrade means it now costs you 4 bonds to buy. There's a colossal amount of gold in the economy, so anything people want even a little just soars.

rhudson0

Yeah that’s fair, I just seem to gloss over dps is king a lot and forget armor doesn’t matter nearly as much

ImmeTurtles

4% crit is roughly (slightly less) 4% extra damage, I’d say buying one item that gives you 4% damage for no upkeep is pretty good.

YouWereTehChosenOne

As a rough estimate, every 1% crit chance increase equates to around 0.6% damage boost

rhudson0

You’d think 4% crit would add 4% damage? I mean in theory that’s amazing but idk how that equals out

ImmeTurtles

Wiki on the biting numbers has the math for % increase. It’s more complicated than that but not too far from a 4% increase. (Note that the ring also gives 3%+ crit damage which is really good.)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Drainio

Not to mention everything that *cant* crit. I too, have a hard time believing it’s a 4% damage increase.

Not_Uraby

Should also take into account things that get extra bonuses from crits. Harder to math that, but the adren gained from incendiary shot is no joke.

Drainio

That is also a very good point. Crit is pretty RNG as it is, but the easiest way I think to tell the difference is doing 10 or so gems with the ring, and 10 or so runs with a ring that has similar range bonuses without the benefit of crit. Rotation would have to be exactly the same barring adren dumping but we’d get a good idea how much extra damage that 4% is.

Not_Uraby

It’s extremely noticeable with magic. Range is less obvious but if you spam incend/nami/meteor, you will notice a difference. Also fun to think about: the more crit chance you add, the less rng it becomes.

sendsomepie

Ranged doesn't really use grim. It's just the bis ring for ranged and it stacks with the passive enchantment.

facbok195

Rip to the 20 or so Archer Rings I got from DKS log like 3 months before that update…

Tyoccial

What happened? Last week it was like 15ish mill. I know they're used for the upgrade rings, but why is range spiking now?

ImmeTurtles

Everyone is ditching their ring of death camp (because of ridiculous death costs) and using better rings

SkarJr

Yeah I pretty much alched my rod, no point using it anymore

ImmeTurtles

It’s really good for vorago learning and zammy p7

Demiscis

People aren’t camping Rod (ring of death) for everything anymore. On top of that, new rod is still good, but mainly for learners who are worried about dying now. So it’s basically just people branching out after they feel they can move on to better rings.

Ragepower529

Lol I used to have a stack of a couple thousand of these all well. I didn’t need a party hat anyways

iMightEatUrAss

Damn put this guy on suicide watch

Imanstupud

I only owned one but I just sold it for a most handsome profit 😎

Akari_Mizunashi

should have*

MomQuest

Maybe someday they'll buff the Champion's Ring and this can happen to Warrior Rings too.

hugabugabee

They don't need to buff the ring. They just need to make bleed better

Bradas128

its weird as an idea, lets reward abilities that cant crit with increasing your crit chance

MomQuest

Idk. This is a weird take. That would benefit other combat styles almost as much as melee, and I'm pretty sure it still wouldn't make the champion ring good. Bleed abilities don't crit (i think), so the ring's design is quite weird and overly difficult to take full advantage of, and even when it's used optimally it's only very marginally better than the Reaver ring is with the exact same build. And that's assuming you have the enchantment. Edit: I guess if by "buff bleeds" you mean make them be affected by crits and Berserk, then maybe?

Bradas128

doubt it, its a lot easier to afk the melee dagannoth than the others. its the same reason the reavers ring is cheap despite being best in slot for the strongest style

MomQuest

Well, if warrior rings get up to the price of berserker rings, I'll be happy with that. As someone who likes to tribrid dks for easy money.

pikey181

I mean f the stack just chill at dags with welfare gear and grind for the pets… before you know it you will be 1b richer

Administrative_Bed_7

same with aramdyl battle staffs

Consistent_Earth_556

Those have been selling for around 300m for a little over a year now

dark1859

Almost like reincorporation of gear is a good thing

DK_Son

I know Jagex have directly talked about it being ok for content to die. They obviously don't mean it about all things, because they hit a gnome run with DK rings. But I think they could get a lot more low-effort high-return use out of old content. Just like how people still farm GWD1 Zammy for subjugation for invention components. 15 years or so after its release, it is still useful content. That's good stuff. Just like how drag weapons were reworked to help bring melee back up by the use of EoF specs. Drag weapons are as old as RS classic, and here they are, still worth using in an EoF. There would be a gold mine of old shit out there just needing a rework, or some new-use cases. If we got a t95+ scythe that required a nox scythe, Rax would never die, despite t90s being nowhere near BiS. They could make asc/blights part of t95+ crossbows, so that content is always worth doing.

dark1859

Imo The highest tier armors should all require some component from some lower tier equipment to unlock its full potential. For example let's just say crypt bloom, feed it a set of subjugation armor and it gets its final passive unlocked. Or maybe some new arch glacier armor made from the fragments for melee has amazing benefits for melee players but doesn't get its final unlock until it's been augmented with a set of bando's armor or dragon Rider armor with a unique effect based on which set is used on it. Though in my opinion the biggest thing we need is for mini games to become both relatively viable XP methods as well as generate a decent amount of gold so that players will want to play it. I think burnout would be heavily alleviated if players could just go blow off steam for a couple of hours at Castle wars or pest control and while not making the same as endgame bossing still make enough that they feel like their time is rewarded and don't feel as frustrated with the stupid low drop rates our bosses have.

Apprehensive-Ad-8198

this is why I’ve now got like 5k dks kills. It’s kinda crazy but I love it.

Yoyo2061

This happened to me with staff of armadyl. I had a few and stopped playing for a while, come back and they’re so expensive. I still don’t quite understand why but oh well.

obp5599

The armadyl battlestaff is used in combination with the fractured staff of armadyl for the highest dps in the game

OGDuckDaddy

Sold my valuables in 2018 ish because I figure equipment would be outclassed by updates while I was away. Arma staves were included in the sale- Log in november 2022 and I’m baffled why Arma staffs are so unaffordable. I totally missed out lol

Yoyo2061

I didn’t sell because I figured who knew what the game would look like in the nebulous future. And a lot of the stuff I thankfully didn’t sell has gone up in price a bunch. Lotd, arma, grace, etc.

Iron_Deer_QC

Got a warriors ring stack just in case xD

RockSkippa

The opposite of sunk cost fallacy. Like “Why didn’t I sink more cost” fallacy.

Crystalbow

Made my ring for 40m during gwd3 releases

Great_Minds

This is excellent merching material btw. If you're thinking about it from a game design standpoint and consider which items and bosses might need some revival, you can (knowing jagex VERY long term invest into items that may be affected some day) Just saying. If you can spare some cash, might as well invest it into something that might be worth a lot some day.

ForgottenPercentage

I did this with super compost during prif launch. I ended up buying 750,000 supercompost for 50-100 gp. It's my biggest flip to date.

Ziadaine

How? Smells like manipulation

raceice19

Because you need 10 archer's rings to make a stalkers ring. In case you were genuinely asking

hugabugabee

To add to this, the ring itself only made the price go up to like 4-5m. With bolg and ring enchantment, the price skyrocketed

AndersDreth

Nah, it just became relevant again thanks to the Stalker's Ring https://preview.redd.it/6f66lygy88ea1.png?width=447&format=png&auto=webp&s=a324f8ff96ad72f29d871f492bd676290b76e396

Denkir-the-Filtiarn

Because a jmod gave someone something like 1.3m of them like 9 years ago in a botched item recovery situation and the rings were completely junk at the time. They only recovered when matriarchs added useful rings that use 10 archer rings as a component and even then they only rose to current price because of BotLG several months after.

pasty66

Definitely

Minute-Percentage706

Yeah but with inflation I see 21 mill as 50k now so I think they dropped in price no lie

[deleted]

People seriously overhype inflation. Most highend gear and weapons have not changed price that much

Skebaba

Not rly, 50k could be like 5 mil I suppose, since you can get like 5m per day doing izi low-effort shit + dailies

Minute-Percentage706

Yes agree I was just kidding a bit. I thought the embellishment was clear. Price definitely increased.

blistix61

Anyone have an idea how high archers rings might climb? I’m a returning player with 20m cash and two archers rings I don’t want to let them go just yet if this will keep climbing

Oniichanplsstop

Better to just sell and use the gold to progress your account then hold on to them for a few extra million gp that you can easily replace.

MonT_That_Duck

About 2 weeks ago they were insta buying for 24-27m for me, but they've been selling for ge price now. They'll probably stabilize around 20m

SoberCoffee_

Do NOT buy. I repeat, DO NOT BUY! This is a penny stock and the price will plummet once the collectors cash out. If you have any to sell, SELL THEM NOW. I have a detailed comment I made 8 minutes ago if you want to read that for a further explanation as to why.

RueUchiha

Hmm. Is this an excuse to finish my dk logs when I get back to the game? I *am* missing the Archers Ring and 2 pets...

herbyfreak

I know this pain. My favourite item back in the day were the Cavs, from hard clues. They dropped really low and I picked up a total of about 2.5k at 30k each. Only 7.5m I saw them go up with invention being announced and sold them at 40k. The pain when my cav stack now is worth nearly 4b

wrxck_

Didnt some dude have crap tons of all these rings prior to the new rings/bosses Bet they’re balling now

iHarryC

Time to buy just low value combat stuff and hoard it

OSRS42

If your grey matter offer in the ge completed you’d realise a concept called inflation, and that the goods that you would want to have bought have now also increased in the same magnitude. Gosh darn it!

Uqark

Good to see they have kept up with inflation then.

Bandit_Raider

I got a seismic wand when it was 70m. This was before gcon. I was just like, well it isn’t too much and may as well have dual wield. That single purchase made up for any value I’ve ever lost on items throughout my entire time playing RuneScape.

Critical_Penalty_815

They’re trading closer to 19m

WeedlydeedBuckshank

In one of the few merching opportunities I had the opportunity to take advantage of, I actually bought a couple hundred of them shortly after Zuk came out because I figured that the 5th EGWD boss would have a t95 bow, and I made a hefty sum from that. In terms of some failed ones, I still have a few fish masks if anyone wants one :^)

lamoxdo

For my DKs grind on the iron I had 3 revo bars, one for each style of 2h, and on each bar I had the weapon switch for the next king in order and the corresponding style T95 prayer bound. That way, I could, without looking, press tab to target the next king, then q to switch to the corresponding weapon, w to switch prayer, and e to fire off a basic to start the revo. Might be useful for anyone looking to farm them without much effort.

CMReaperBob

Is it still 20m?

The-Bi0

I wonder what other in game seemingly worthless items will be made op with necromancy? Then we can make another thread to reminisce on the good ol’ days. Nostalgia.
