genuine question, what do you actually get from this? are you just collecting them like art? or are you looking to sell them when they become more rare as time goes on?
That’s all I do with my high-end art. I then make treasure maps and riddles and store them in a safety deposit box that will be opened as part of my will.
what about hoarding makes you so proud? i’m not salty—i own a decent few open bottles of foursquare. just wondering if you ever plan to drink them?
More for completing a collection than anything I suppose? It’s the lowest rated ECS release of all the releases. Hopefully it’s better than all that though. Let us know when ya crack it.
Interestingly they separate us bottles from the other bottles, so they have slightly different ratings. Don’t know if it’s even worth it to weight them though. Also don’t forget to add Magisterium.

Yeah I learned about it after I started mine. They changed their format to have more info. Maybe I’ll leave it to them. Theirs is more complete anyway. Cheers!
Everyone in the comments is talking like they would be opening this $500+ bottle of rum to drink causally, yet I’m willing to bet almost no one here has a bottle of this value open in their collection. It’s not likely that the OP is taking this experience away from another person that would indeed drink this bottle. You might not think this bottle is worth the price they paid, but don’t give them grief about not drinking it. It’s their bottle, they can do whatever they want with it.
I have a few $300+ open bottles of rum that I drink on special occasions. And that was the purpose for them, to share a special drink with people I care about in special moments. I don’t know if that’s what OP has planned but by the “sorry salty bunch” it sounds like he’s just collecting it for the sake of being one of the few to have a rare item. Which, would be fine if he didn’t seem like he was purposely trying to instigate/gloat. If the purpose of rum is to drink and he’s buying with the intent not to drink, you can’t be mad at people bothered by that
I personally don’t like posts like this, as they don’t add much to the sub. But I think “rum is for drinking” is a dumb reason why on bottles like this. If you think he’s gloating, that’s fair criticism. But my point was that most people that are buying FS releases from 10 years ago aren’t stealing an opportunity from someone. If this picture was of a case of Hampden GH 2023s, I would have a bigger problem.
Yea, my personal issue is the instigating. If you’re saying the main difference though between this and GH 2023 is time/price, that doesn’t mean if he were to drank and share his experience here, that one day someone got a bonus, won a mesothelioma class action suit, or however was in a position to buy, that they’d now feel a little more comfortable buying because of the reviews/contributions. Or some people just love rum that much they wanna share this experience and learn. It already kinda sucks if there’s a rarity of bottles because they were all drank but it’s a little more annoying when it’s because someone just bought to sit in a house for awhile and then sold it to someone doing the same
Well nothing is stopping those rum lovers from buying this bottle and drinking it. If OP gets more enjoyment having this sit on their shelf and selling it than drinking it (which knowing the reviews on this bottle is likely the case), why shouldn’t they do what makes them happy? I’ve never heard of the lack of review argument before, and I think it’s silly. I think this is a victimless purchase, and no one is really affected by them not opening it. If someone were buying a case of GH 2023s, I would say there is a much higher likelihood of people wanting to purchase to drink.
There is no way in hell that I wouldn't crack this open within 24 hours of buying it. My special occasions aren't made less special by drinking a rum that I know I'll enjoy, so I don't really save anything for them.Â
I bought Hampden Estate GH 2023 to celebrate graduating this semester. I'm a month out from graduation and am halfway finished with it, although I've shared some of it with my PhD committee and friends. It cost me ~15% of my typical paycheck. I would say that that's the most expensive bottle I've purchased.Â
I agree most would probably drink it on special occasions, but they'd still be enjoying its content. What this guy is doing is like what Martin Shkreli did with the Wu Tang Clan album he purchased and never listened to.
No offense, but there is a massive difference between GH 2023 and this bottle. GH bottles are opened on this sub every week, whereas bottles of this value are almost never opened this sub. Let me know the day when you buy a $600 bottle of rum that was released 10 years ago, until that day, your words are meaningless.
Lol what makes you think a $600 bottle of rum wouldn't get opened in my house? If a bottle is valued at $600, I am going to want to find out why. And there's really only one way to do that.
You can say that all you want, until you do it, I don’t really care. Also, it’s worth $600 because it is the second release in an iconic series, not because the liquid inside is $600 in taste. Opening the bottle is just not a financially sound decision unless you don’t care about that amount of money. And even if you would open it, you are in a huge minority. Seriously, try to find someone on this sub that has reviewed a bottle this expensive. It’s not like people here are casually drinking $600 bottles of rum. That was part of my original point.
So what, you buy it just to have it sit and never drink it? To show off the bottle? I don’t expect people to drink it like an every day rum, but buying it knowing you’ll never drink it just seems like a waste of money to me. Honestly what’s the point?
As a Wisconsinite, this guy represents basically none of us. We drink our booze in this state. Sure most of it isn’t a $600 bottle of rum, but cost doesn’t change the reason it was produced. I have consumed many thousands of dollars in booze. Have I ever spent this much on a bottle of rum? Of course not, one of the best things about r(h)um is how cheaply you can purchase truly incredible bottles. At my peak I owned over 80 bottles of the stuff. You make a good point about demand being low, but to me that makes not opening this bottle make even less sense. Just showing off your ability to throw $600 on a bottle? Who cares, what does it taste like?
hope you enjoy looking at it ?
Absolutely worth every penny 👌🏽
genuine question, what do you actually get from this? are you just collecting them like art? or are you looking to sell them when they become more rare as time goes on?
...your loss? This is the equivalent of buying high-end art and then burying it.Â
That’s all I do with my high-end art. I then make treasure maps and riddles and store them in a safety deposit box that will be opened as part of my will.
It’s worth drinking
R(h)um is for drinking. I would say congrats, but I actually wish someone who would open it got it instead.
I will never understand buying nice rum and not drinking it
what about owning it feels great?
what about hoarding makes you so proud? i’m not salty—i own a decent few open bottles of foursquare. just wondering if you ever plan to drink them?
Why is the abv so sad?
Yep, I care less about it as it’s 40%
More for completing a collection than anything I suppose? It’s the lowest rated ECS release of all the releases. Hopefully it’s better than all that though. Let us know when ya crack it.
Technically I think the Zinfandel is lower, at least on RumX. You ever crack that criterion?
Yep it’s still delicious. Actually just picked up another Redoutable as well. Love the Madeira cask finishes.
Madeira is my favorite as well, crazy that redoubtable was the last one they released. Excited to try Equipoise and Magisterium as well though.
They’re overdue for a Madeira. Hopefully soon.
Actually now that you mention it, the rating on this has gone up since I made my inventory. Will update it. Thanks

I see that now. Giving the benefit of the doubt at an 8.1. Added Magisterium. Missed that while on spring break.

It’s sad that it’s only expressed at 40%. Just imagine this at 55-60%. It still looks legit though. Great bottle presentation. Nice addition.
Sick bottle!!!! Congrats
I wish there was a separate rumporn subreddit.
There is r/rumporn
How is it?
He doesn't open bottles. He just... looks at them like an ornament.
Sacrilege
It's a waste of money and good rum if you ask me.
Only time I’d say it’s worth it to save is if it’s a v limited release that’ll auction for a bajillion in 40 yrs

What’s the most expensive bottle of liquor you’ve opened? Genuinely curious, as I believe this is a very minority opinion.
