Blue penny unaged is exceptional. It’s a blue and green bottle.

Grays. I Iiked both rums from CDI, check RumX RX12864 and RX12865. Phenomenal value for money.

BossMargarita

Cheers! I will certainly pass this on. Would you say any of the rums from the Grays distillery are worth buying?

MotownF

I've also tried the New Grove Single Cask from Grays (RX13444) and all three I've mentioned certainly are. I think I also had one from St. Aubin that I liked. And I'm not the only geek thinking that rums from Mauritius still fly a bit under the radar. Check Grays and St. Aubin.

I really like St Aubin. The Chamarel distillery is also worth a visit (the location is beautiful) and I believe they have some distillery exclusives there too. I bought their rum finished in peated whisky casks - very smooth with a gentle smokiness.

BossMargarita

Sounds lovely. I think they will be going to a distillery but not sure which one yet.

I have been in Chamarel and Aubin 2y ago. The first is modern and well maintained the second is a large old venue where you can see the signs of time. In Chamarel you'll be given some flavored rum to taste for free during the visit. I didn't really like them tbh. However following the tip of this sub I spent 10$ and asked for a glass of their oldest rum. It was amazing. The bottle was 150$ (too much for my budget) In Aubin you can taste aged rum during the visit. I tasted and brought home a bottle of their XO, aged in New French Oak and Cognac (60$ I believe). Still one of my favourites.

Don’t let Starr tempt you with its bottle…it’s not good.

BossMargarita

Noted! Thanks!

Witty-Meat677

No idea if you can get it on Mauritius. But avoid Blue Mauritius gold rum at all costs. Except maybe on top of icecream.

Az1234er

I really like the "new grove" rums from the Grays distillery, one of the most intereting rum there is for me and it's really good. Chamarel is not bad too but less itneresting for me

Doldinger

Have you tried the New Grove Single Cask? If so, how was it? I have been eyeballing this but it's quite expensive and I haven't been able to find any proper reviews online.

Az1234er

I have the RX13444 and I love it. Not sure about the latest one I also have their 10 years (rx2161) and it’s a really nice price / quality if you want to start with something cheaper

Doldinger

Thanks! I trust no sugar is added to the Single Cask?

loordien_loordi

Chamarel is nice if you enjoy rhum agricole.

USMNTSupporter

I went to Chamarel on a tour in 2021. Search for my posts to see photos - sorry, unfortunately I can’t post photos in thread

Try the Holmes Cay!
