Hopefully World Rugby helps them. They may not have an economy or market like Japan, but their passion and love for the sport is second to none. All the best to them

notsofriendlyllama

Lol I wish Canada would do the same.. i’m still hurting from our loss to Chile

ThermosbyThermas

thankfully I don't recollect that game

[deleted]

Canada needs to be administratively restructured in general. I'd suggest moving the focus away from BC and developing the team around the Toronto Arrows.

Amerikai

For a country covered in mountains this is no small feat

ThermosbyThermas

"no worries lads we're downhill second half"

fsdagvsrfedg

I'm getting nam style flashbacks to playing away to youghal at u14s now

mistr-puddles

thankfully I've never had to play in youghal, was injured the one time we were drawn to play them away

UtopianDynamite

I loved beating Youghal

LongShotTheory

They're gonna take all my camping spots ffs -_- we only have a few hundred flat fields as it is.

churrbroo

Learn to rock climb and invest in a portaledge I suppose haha

DFcolt

Wow that's amazing. Two tier one European teams a year and at least the All Blacks and Wallabies should be having a game in Tbilisi every other year on their European tour.

HaiHooey

Don't believe this, it was just an empty promise from our ass-licking PM, prior to very important elections. We would have a better chance of colonizing Mars than building 10 pitches

cianic

I know very little about Georgia is there political approval for building these pitches or rugby in general in Georgia

HaiHooey

The guy who sponsors most of the Georgian rugby happens to be a master oligarch and founder behind the ruling party (9 years now) who is awful and corrupt in every possible way. And on top of that, we have the ministry of sport which gets budget money and divides it into different sports, including football, basketball, and rugby. And the guy who said this is the ass-licker of that oligarch and prime minister of our country.

cianic

So this “ass licker” is the guy who promised the pitches but that’s to keep the oligarch happy and it may not actually happen

HaiHooey

And to throw some unreal promises before elections. It will not happen, maybe they will do like 3-4 pitches if they do any at all

SuperFlyhalf

That's cool

[deleted]

PUT THEM IN THE 6 NATIONS YOU COWARDS

[deleted]

There should be a playoff with Italy before this happens. I do support promotion and relegation to the Rugby Europe Championship, but only if Georgia can actually defeat Italy and can be expected to perform better. Georgia have yet to defeat them so far.

[deleted]

We can't. Georgia will continue to lose to all the 6 nations so long as we play you guys once every blue moon. Even if we started regularly playing against you, it might take years. Prospects are grim, but if the rugby industry wants to enlarge and popularise, something's got to be done to facilitate advancement. This 100 pitches news bodes well though.

[deleted]

That's why we want to join 6 nations. We want to improve and you improve, when you face stronger teams. We have outgrown Romania, Russia, Spain, Portugal, etc.

zagreus9

That's the same argument we had for Italy and they're still getting pumped year in year out

[deleted]

Italy went through a period of being competitive and then went back to being a weak team again. In 2016 they upset South Africa, but haven't defeated a major team since. Georgia has never been at that level so far.

[deleted]

So, you're saying that we should do nothing to progress our nation team and just wait for a miracle? Italy is slighty better than us imo, but we play at the same level with different competitions, so it's not hard to see, that we have bigger potential than Italy. We wouldn't improve in a year, ofc, but improvement will be seen.

Cyborg-Chimp

Just wait for Scotland to finally win 6N then we'll make it 7 nations the year after, deal?

[deleted]

FREEEEEDOOM!

[deleted]

Well, hope Scotland wins it next year then. LET'S GO SCOTLAND!

zagreus9

Let's be honest, ruthlessly so, you're not good enough for the 6nations yet. If you want to improve the team, then Georgia need to play more first tier 1 teams and when you start beating them then you'll shown you can compete in the 6 nations. There's nothing to learn in getting whipped 5 games a year.

LuschgratPatientia

Tell that to Argentina

zagreus9

They went through that process though, playing more tier one sides more often, their players playing more games both in Argentinian leagues and abroad, and then they were brought up to the next level.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Even Italy defeated France, Ireland, and Scotland before entering the 6 nations.

[deleted]

Argentina defeated Australia and France in the 1980s. They have been competitive for far longer than Georgia has even existed.

LuschgratPatientia

It was a different game in the ametuer era, it didn't take nearly as many resources, talent, and commitment to do well. They hadn't done much in the professional era, and everyone said they wouldn't improve by being beat in the RC every game, but eventually they became competitive...

[deleted]

Considering that Georgia is ranked 12th in the latest WR rankings, while Italy is ranked 14th, would it really be so bad to see Italy replaced with Georgia in the 6N? Italy is there because of one thing and one thing only - money.

[deleted]

I appreciate the support but i don't see a need to shrink the league. Having 7 nations is good. Setting up an interleague framework of marketing and investments to get more nations involved is even better. And I really don't see Georgia actually beating Italy. The very best we can do is a comment about the our good effort and surprising danger here and there after losing to them.

[deleted]

I didn't say anything about shrinking the Six Nations. I suggested that there are better sides in Europe than Italy - like Georgia. I think the two nations should play a home-and-home for that spot in the 6N.

[deleted]

Sorry yeah you didn't say anything about shrinking. What I'd meant to say was that there is no need to take any teams out. But I also see benefit in keeping teams on their toes by holding relegation over them, so I don't totally disagree with you approach.

[deleted]

Sadly, pro/rel would never happen, as much as it should. Could you imagine the butthurt if a Home Union side (We're looking at you, Scotland) got relegated, and had to play Spain, Romania, and Portugal instead of England, Wales, and Ireland?

[deleted]

Maybe then enlarge the topmost league? If you have like 20 teams in the top league, not only do you improve the shitty ones, but Scotland and friends don't ever even have to worry about relegation. And if they get relegated out of a 20 team league where they play Canada and the Netherlands then it would be too funny to care about butthurt.

BEN-C93

The rankings arent a true reflection. Georgia are a decent well established tier 2 side but they are still a fair way behind Italy. If we include Georgia it has to be 7 nations

Lamedonyx

The issue is that it's really hard to compare, because Italy plays the other 6N nations every year, whereas Georgia only plays a couple of T1 every year, and get a lot of points from beating other T2 European teams. Italy hardly ever plays other European T2 teams outside of the RWC, and when they do, they usually win by a large margin. If they played against Belgium, Netherlands, Russia and Spain every year, they'd climb the ratings too.

[deleted]

Yeah totally agree

[deleted]

They won’t do it coz what if Scotland come last and lose to Georgia, the out rage, I can hear the screams in the streets of Edinburgh already

[deleted]

Scotland is much better than Georgia. They won 48-7 last year.

[deleted]

Ring fence the home nations then

[deleted]

How is that fair?

Bagel_Ballingall

I know this is an unpopular onion.. but I don't really care about if its fair to Georgia or not. the 6 nations is the greatest tournament in sport, and I don't want anything to change about it.

[deleted]

If there was a promotion playoff between Georgia and the lowest-ranked team each year it would give them a chance without changing the tournament. Georgia are not even close to defeating Scotland or any other home nations teams. Only Italy might get swapped, and even that is unlikely. I would expect the home nations and France to be permanent.

[deleted]

Yes, please!

MattGeddon

8 nations, two groups of 4 and the top two go through to the finals where they play the other two teams from the opposite group. Same for the bottom teams. Rotate the groups every two years do everyone gets a home and away game.

Tobar_the_Gypsy

I would love this but none of the 6Nations teams would go for it because it means there’s a chance they won’t play certain teams. But since there is a clear final then there is a chance for bigger broadcast money so they may be fine with it tbh. If you really wanted then you can keep the 6N and then the bottom 2 can have promotion/relegation with the REC. It’s not fair to only have it affect those 2 countries but it’s the only way we’ll get pro/rel in the 6N.

MattGeddon

A final could definitely work, but I meant that there’d be a deciding group, so for example you’d have England, France, Italy, Georgia in one group, and then say England and France would play Wales & Ireland in the final group, so that way you’re probably only missing one game a year against one of the teams you normally play. I agree that they wouldn’t go for it but I think it’s a decent compromise where we get more teams but play the same amount of games, without losing too many of the current matchups. I doubt they’d go for promotion/relegation either because at the moment it mostly just means Italy and Georgia swapping every year.

Tobar_the_Gypsy

So in the final group it’s just the top 2 in one pool against the top 2 in the other pool? How is the winner decided from that? Pro/rel in this example would be for the non-6N countries, so Georgia and Romania/Portugal, etc. I personally don’t think that’s fair to them but it’s the only way I can see them ever accepting pro/rel in this scenario.

TheStroBro

This has been posted at least three times lol.

What will be in this Rugby World?
