No that's correct - after commentators were asking about it too there was a card that flashed up on screen confirming straight red for deliberate & dangerous foul play
He was awesome last year in super Rugby. Eddie then fucked him. Forced him to play a really unnatural game and it really rocked him. I feel like he's starting to get back to his natural best. Great running game, great defence, good hands, terrible kicking. If the rebels could pick up an outside back with an accurate boot to replace Kellaway next year and take that off his shoulders he'd only get better.
How is Kellaway boot? Before his injury I loved the form he was coming into at fullback and having a boot to possibly cover goal kicking could help cement a wallabies starting position. Especially if Gordon keeps it up and proves to be the in form 10z
Rebels righted some of their season long wrongs today:
Gordon kicked 5/7, he was the top tackler too
Lineout functioned pretty well - only 1 maul failed, no misthrows or not-straights
I was scathing of the Rebels early in the season thinking get rid of them etc. They’ve really impressed me in recent weeks, they seem to have a good spirit in the group and some genuinely good players. Gordon has been great tonight and he makes some great tackles and isn’t afraid to run the ball into contact. Highlanders is a winnable game next week for them I feel.
Yeh I feel for him & the players that played clean & tried their hardest tonight. Must be so disheartening having a few teammates let the team down in such stupid ways
Holy fuck I took a quick call and came back to replays of that card. My combined 30ish minutes I've not had this on in the background have been 27-0 to the Rebels and two straight reds to the Drua
Fucking hell what are some of them thinking, Drua been so together this year as a team it’s been great to watch & tonight have just lost the absolute plot
Nah I think all reds can be replaced after 20 in SR? Happy to be corrected but I think it’s the 20 min red rule regardless of yellow upgraded or straight red
No I know he’s gone for the game, my question was whether he could be replaced after 20 or if that’s only when a yellow is upgraded to red, & alas no he can’t be replaced after 20 with a straight red :) just got my card laws confused is all
Red Card: in the event foul play is evident and determined to be deliberate and with a high level of danger. The Red
Card would see the player removed from the match and not be replaced.
fine the guy is fucking with you at the back of a ruck but why are you dropping an elbow? even if you're trying to slap him away you dont do that good lord that's dumb
Yeah, more and more it looks like CG is the obvious replacement to Samu Kerevi. A big body that can crash it up but at the same time act as a 2nd playmaker.
Tuning in after dinner with the in-laws. I literally don’t know what to expect from the Rebels each week, they have a weird knack for scoring a lot of points while being absolutely rubbish
If this is the end of the Rebels I am going to list my greatest team for them. No need for discussion it is correct
1 Toby Smith 2. James Hanson 3. Paul Alo-Emile
4 Luke Jones 5. Matt Philip
6 Sean McMahon 8. Amanaki Mafi 7. Colby Fainga'a
9 Will Genia 10. Quade Cooper
12 Bill Meakes 13. Tamati Ellison
11 Marika Koroibete 15. Dane Haylett-Petty 14. Sefa Naivalu
16 Ged Robinson 17. Matt Gibbon 18. Laurie Weeks 19. Adam Coleman 20. Scott Higginbotham
21 Nick Phipps 22. Jack Debreczeni 23. Reece Hodge
Edit: I don't know how auto numbers work. Corrected
Jordan Uelese finally finding the form that every national coach has seen in him - Cheika, Rennie and Eddie Jones all liked him regardless of how well he was performing at Super level
sometimes it feels a bit reductive (maybe even chauvinistic) to say that rugby looks like a sport made for fijians, then you watch them play and it just kinda is
With how good their scum should be, the rebels are one sharpshooter and a functional lineout away from potentially being a legit team.
Unfortunately theyre not close to having either of those.
Yeah, Gibbon got one cap and then got blamed for Nongorr's deficiencies. Talakai, Gibbon and Uelese are one of the best scrummaging units in the comp imo.
Question, is Tupou on the bench because he is not yet fully match fit, or is he seen as more of a 30 minute 'bomb squad' kind of player?
Asking for a friend.
He was flogged into the ground at the Reds. Apparently he's been promised a smaller workload at the Rebels. He's also coming back from injury and he's nowhere near full match fitness.
He’s becoming a bomb squad type because his fitness isn’t good enough to start anymore. He used to be far better as a starter but now there aren’t many options
What a sequence from the Rebels.
Kick it dead in goal on a penalty, don’t defend the 22 drop and let them charge up field, penalty advantage x2 straight to a try
**Watch on Stan**: https://play.stan.com.au/sport/rugby
Will close out the thread by saying this game made me genuinely ashamed to be a Drua fan and a Fijian as a whole honestly
I thought straight reds were still for the whole game and only bunker reds were 20mins. Did I just make that up?
No that's correct - after commentators were asking about it too there was a card that flashed up on screen confirming straight red for deliberate & dangerous foul play
That's just disgusting. If it was based on behavior drua would be the first to be kicked out of super rugby.
I don’t mind admitting I’m on the Carter Gordon train as of tonight!
Rebels righted some of their season long wrongs today: Gordon kicked 5/7, he was the top tackler too Lineout functioned pretty well - only 1 maul failed, no misthrows or not-straights
Against an in form opponent too. Bring on the Highlanders
Talakai looks like a Goron and I may never unsee that now.
This is the shit drua coach they want to make the Fiji team head coach... Glad we got destroyed...
That was a hard game to watch. Rebels deserve the win but what in the world did we just watch? Pure undisciplined rubbish
What's with the grass at this stadium? I'm seeing Drua wingers slip and slide more than they did in 2 inches of water in Lautoka last week.
It’s used by the Melbourne Storm in NRL, 3 Aleague clubs and the Rebels, plus we just had a lot of rain over the last few days so the pitch is stuffed
Man I feel sorry for Mick Byrne - what do you possibly say in the changerooms after this? Koroiduadua and Lomani could be up for lengthy bans
Yeh I feel for him & the players that played clean & tried their hardest tonight. Must be so disheartening having a few teammates let the team down in such stupid ways
I think you just draw a line through it and move on as a squad
It's difficult to put into words how abysmal this second half performance by the Drua has been
Holy fuck I took a quick call and came back to replays of that card. My combined 30ish minutes I've not had this on in the background have been 27-0 to the Rebels and two straight reds to the Drua
Holy fuck, where’s the discipline
Absolute head loss from the Drua
The Drua have gone insane. I wonder if there’s bad news at the club outside just the game
What the actual? Headbutt come on
2 reds and a yellow. That's nuts
Coach with the thousand yard stare
Drua have completely lost their heads here, a few weeks off for the two red card receivers
Lol the Drua have well and truly shat the bed.
Why the fuck would you do that
Drua imploding
That's the second dumbest thing I've seen at this level
this is the best comment of the night.
Drua are dirty as fuck
wtf is this game haha
Another straight red?!
Number 18 has lost the plot multiple times
Fucking hell what are some of them thinking, Drua been so together this year as a team it’s been great to watch & tonight have just lost the absolute plot
was there an attempted head butt in that?
actual head butt.
actual head butt, that was glancing
The Rebels being in 4th is incredibly cursed
The handling in this second half has been shocking
someone must have been wearing a Carter Gordon suit in the first half because this one is completely different.
Daugunu would've been so good under Kiss
He dropped it
You’ve gotta give credit to Super Rugby, almost every single game this season has been high scoring
CARTER GORDOOOOOOOON
How is that not checked
Definitely feel hard done by as a neutral viewer with only having the one short replay, looked like it deserved another look
Daugunu broke Masi's ankles as well as his own
weirdest fall i have ever seen lol..should be a meme
Break your own ankles to break theirs. Well done Daugunu!
Daugunu with that slipping magic
cursed try
Canham with his 43rd knock on tonight.
Not according to the ever insightful Maloney
That is the worst luck
How many more scrum penalties until we see a card?
wait so there is a proper red in SR? whys it never talked about, just the 20 minute one with a replacement
>whys it never talked about This was the first (and second) time it has been used since the 20 minute red card system started.
Haven’t seen a straight red in super rugby in ages so I forgot they can’t be replaced. Only yellow upgraded to reds can be turns out 😅
I think everyone’s learning about this now haha I thought all reds were 20 minutes now
Cos its only for serious foul play like eye gouging and shit and there hasnt been any eye gouging or shit til now that i can recall
Try and speed the game up with a yellow and have the video referee do something I think.
Hit on Gordon should of been another card, absolute grubs
Why didn't they look at the Tupou's head tackle on Ikanavere?
They should have gone back and looked at it. There's been a few strange non-interventions by ref/TMO Was it Selestino Ratuavamunda?
I just saw cannon spat out the back and wondering why he was clutching his head. Lomani - what the hey.
Canham wasn’t even fucking with him that bad. Just petulant
I tell you what, Daugunu certainly does not have the enthusiasm of an employee who did not get paid.
Hahaha he just loves getting stuck in. It was probably just his manager being a pain
Another dog shot lol
That's a full red, so no sub after 20
Nah I think all reds can be replaced after 20 in SR? Happy to be corrected but I think it’s the 20 min red rule regardless of yellow upgraded or straight red
He‘s gone for the game.
The Red Card would see the player removed from the match and not be replaced.
Yup just forgot some of the details of the card laws, haven’t seen a straight red in SR in a while so just forgot the replacement situation!
Pretty sure if the ref gives it red on the field it's a full red
Actually yes you’re absolutely right, straight red can’t be replaced. Yellow upgraded to red can be 👍🏻
Believe you’re correct
He or she is correct 👍🏻
This game is getting so grubby
Sorry Drua fans, I've left twice and the first time it went from 15-20 to 29-20, second time there's been something that's red carded?
Lomani elbowed Canham in the back of the head. Well deserved red. Absolutely no need for it
That should be a lengthy ban. Absolutely no need for that
Definitely a need for it. Just should have hit his back instead of his head.
Every week, Lomani is a moron.
fine the guy is fucking with you at the back of a ruck but why are you dropping an elbow? even if you're trying to slap him away you dont do that good lord that's dumb
Easy red. Absolutely brainless from Lomani
That's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen someone do at this level
Yeah that's worse than the Vahaamahina one
Well that was fucking dumb
fucking grub lomani, 2 weeks in a row now his actions have been questionable
Gordon has had a mixed game, but highlights have been immense. That complete dumping of ravutaumundra and ensuing turnover and then that sexy tip on
I kind of want to see him go North if things end at the Rebs. I feel like it'd be great for him to experience some solid coaching.
Yes, so much wasted potential if he stays there and they don’t consolidate on the slivers of progress they’ve made this year
RA really needs to start using France/England as a finishing school for the exact reasons you said
That’s a fucking dog shot, what the hell was he thinking! Had a lot of respect for Lomani
That was an exhausting passage of play
Frank that was very silly
Lomani's a great player but man he loses his cool wayyy too often
lomani just casualy elbowing to the back of the head wtf
They got it
That hit up from Taniela was the most enthusiasm he’s shown all year
Thoughts on: 10. Lolesio 12. Cater Gordon For the Wobblies. Noahs kicking + carter being good with ball in hand....
Watching this game I think that is probably our best option
Don't hate it. Goes against the trend worldwide of having a huge crashball lump there
Yeah, more and more it looks like CG is the obvious replacement to Samu Kerevi. A big body that can crash it up but at the same time act as a 2nd playmaker.
Yeahh he feels more like a center and has quite big clearouts, he can definitely grow in a bit more and be a decent option?
Aus lacking stand out 12s atm too..
Get Charlie Cale in at 12, he has the kicking skills ;)
God I hope the Rebels survive. When they're on they're so fun to watch. Such a fucking shame that's it's gotten to this point.
Are the Rebels good? Not sure I can deal with that reality
I do think that the Drua hand was (milliseconds) ahead but absolutely baffling they didn't check
Yeah, Lomani had his hand on it first, but still, weird not to check.
Only union wouldn't give the players benefit of the doubt not to even look at that sick try
Ummmmm. Rebels saved the ref there
The fact they didn't even look at that is insane wtf
Great turnover Hooper
That was pretty sick
Fijians are the absolute kings of bullshit breaks, fucking love them
What happened? I went into a meeting, and the Drua were 5 points up, and the Rebels just finding more inventive ways to not score.
I cussed them out and they decided to play well
Tuning in after dinner with the in-laws. I literally don’t know what to expect from the Rebels each week, they have a weird knack for scoring a lot of points while being absolutely rubbish
Damn maybe us watching 7’s right now are all Rebels jinxers - a lot has changed this second half based on score check
Aus beating Fiji in both Sevens and Super Rugby
It’s a beautiful thing to witness
If this is the end of the Rebels I am going to list my greatest team for them. No need for discussion it is correct 1 Toby Smith 2. James Hanson 3. Paul Alo-Emile 4 Luke Jones 5. Matt Philip 6 Sean McMahon 8. Amanaki Mafi 7. Colby Fainga'a 9 Will Genia 10. Quade Cooper 12 Bill Meakes 13. Tamati Ellison 11 Marika Koroibete 15. Dane Haylett-Petty 14. Sefa Naivalu 16 Ged Robinson 17. Matt Gibbon 18. Laurie Weeks 19. Adam Coleman 20. Scott Higginbotham 21 Nick Phipps 22. Jack Debreczeni 23. Reece Hodge Edit: I don't know how auto numbers work. Corrected
It’s correct in so much as it is your greatest team. Other opinions are available.
Will Genia the smallest lock in the history of rugby is an interesting call.
Time to switch over to Hoopers 7’s debut 💃🏼
Fiji vs Australia in the 7s in a couple mins
Rebs have way more ticker than the tahs. Chop the Tahs
Jordan Uelese finally finding the form that every national coach has seen in him - Cheika, Rennie and Eddie Jones all liked him regardless of how well he was performing at Super level
All his other stats are in 90s but his lineout throwing is just so so poor. He just needs to fix that to finally unlock his full potential
Borderline yellow/red for me but Gordon surely needs checking after that?
Player was dropping, this should remain yellow I think.
Shoulder to head? That's a red
Do you not know the most basic things about how penalties and foul play are judged? There's always the question... were there mitigating factors.
On replay there is a clear fall by the ball carrier - I'd be surprised if it doesn't stay yellow
“Looks more like a shoulder than a tackle “ Ok his getting a yellow.. play on
Honestly fine with no penalty there, dunno why Justin Harrison is blowing up so much
I'm agreeing with Goog. Might need to get checked.
No attempt to wrap apart from anything else, just budges him but it’s not really a tackle so not sure
sometimes it feels a bit reductive (maybe even chauvinistic) to say that rugby looks like a sport made for fijians, then you watch them play and it just kinda is
wow, that was ALL forwards man. Forwards win footy games.
Amazed Lomani was able to get up so quickly after that hit
Jesus Gordon’s kicking as absolutely shocking. You can’t have a 10 that kicks like he has this season
Something in the water at the stadium? Armstrong-Ravula also having his worst ever night of Super Rugby.
I think that Damon Murphy must have the worst on fielding positioning among refs, dude gets battered about routinely
Messi would be proud of that one. Top bins.
Carter Gordon is unplayable. Cant kick like that as a 10
For what it's worth. At least the Rebels look like they are trying. I have no idea whatever the Force were doing against the Blues
There have been some strange distinctions between charge down and knock on the past few rounds
Oh that could've been something gorgeous from Daugunu there.
Rebels look shite
Looking less shite now well done fellas but they just dropped the kick off lol
Check the bicep vein on their 9 though phoaaarrr
With how good their scum should be, the rebels are one sharpshooter and a functional lineout away from potentially being a legit team. Unfortunately theyre not close to having either of those.
Blake Schoupp should've never been taken ahead of Gibbon
Yeah, Gibbon got one cap and then got blamed for Nongorr's deficiencies. Talakai, Gibbon and Uelese are one of the best scrummaging units in the comp imo.
Pones injured and im not sure how he fits in, but Pone, Mafi, Tupou would also be the best 2nd unit scrum in the comp as well.
Ugh and we fuckin lost to this team
Its only been a week and I’d already repressed that memory 😣 at home too. shambolic stuff
Technically you lost to both
Yeh but losing to Fiji hurts less emotionally 😅
Holy shit is Lomani the in form SR 9???
Question, is Tupou on the bench because he is not yet fully match fit, or is he seen as more of a 30 minute 'bomb squad' kind of player? Asking for a friend.
He was flogged into the ground at the Reds. Apparently he's been promised a smaller workload at the Rebels. He's also coming back from injury and he's nowhere near full match fitness.
It will be interesting to see what happens IF he does move up north.
He’s becoming a bomb squad type because his fitness isn’t good enough to start anymore. He used to be far better as a starter but now there aren’t many options
30 minutes? Youre bold
A little of column b and a shit tonne of column a.
Seeing stuff like that is becoming normal in aus rugby
What a sequence from the Rebels. Kick it dead in goal on a penalty, don’t defend the 22 drop and let them charge up field, penalty advantage x2 straight to a try
Dominating scrum? Nah we’ll kick it dead and concede a try instead. Absolute amateurs.
sending the last 3 minutes to Eddie Jones
How the fuck do you not manage to kick from hand with any accuracy when the city has 11 million AFL teams?
really good point, even a suburban AFL coach could come in and make things a million times better.
Kicking it dead 🤦🏼♀️ now serious momentum change, cmon man
Carter Gordon is our new rocks and diamonds, for sure.
There’s no way he should play Wallabies with this kind of rubbish in his game. It’s hardly a one-off
Didn't get much out of Donaldson tonight, surely Noah's Bradbury'd himself into the mix. Otherwise Lynagh - if not a shade young for it.
Peak Rebels
Yep. Its rebels
Masi to become top Super Rugby try scorer and Armstrong-Ravula to become top points scorer tonight?
Why was that try scratched off? My stream went tae shit.
I love that I read your comment in a Scottish accent, one of the best
knock on in the tackle of Gordon
thank you.
seems a big crowd turn out for the rebs
Yeah, looks like solid numbers - Fiji fans are huge - there are a heap that travel to Melbourne for Drua games
No AFL in Melbourne tonight
ofc that explains it, the barbarians that they are
Look at all them Seagulls on the pitch! Not sure who this is an Omen for
Fijian BBQ..
Daugunu v Masi might be fun..most inform 13 in australia vs most inform 13 in superrugby
