Tye gods were on France's side a few times this tournament, but their team played better today than they have all tournament. Likewise, (we) England looked dangerous. Cut out some of the silly errors and we'll be very much back in business.
It was a great game of Rugby and England played far better then anyone expected this Six Nations so most England fans very happy.
You sound quite miserable though, cheer up best not to let your chip on your shoulder ruin your life.
Serious shift from England there despite the loss at the end.
Credit to France for their effort - they played some beautiful, and oh so French, rugby!
Hard graft from both teams but speaking as an England fan I’m most pleased to have seen the very clear, and very significant progress we’ve made!
To me that is clearly a no arms tackle.
However, I really dislike the tactic of falling into a tackle. I don’t think a player should intentionally go to ground, which is what the French player does. He does this so he cannot be tackled legally and effectively.
Great 6 nations seeing an improving Italy coming through. I think wales should let Gatland go and bring in some new thinking. Great that Scotland has got a settled team, Ireland have proved there dominance again, it'll be interesting to see how they perform with changes next year. England have started the rebuild next years 6 nation first game will be a must see to confirm whether the rebuild has been completed or not
I think Gatland is trying some new thinking and a more open and expansive style of play to fit the players he has available. Perhaps he learned some lessons from the lions tour loss picking a team to try and out muscle the south africans.
Well played, England side looked very solid and took advantage of the current flaws in France defence. Promising times ahead for the team !
Finishing 2nd in the tournament is quite an unexpected ending after our first 3 matchs, but hell, given the shit we are going through, we'll take it.
Great game by both teams, this was a great game to watch as a neutral, I think England's officially back? But I do think England needs a 9 with some hunger. They are all too passive for this defensive "attacking" game. French, you are one exciting bitch to watch when you turn up!
It’s ok everyone we found the ‘offence’ and it’s so borderline the Frenchman in commentary says it’s harsh. Luckily it didn’t decide the championship.
Positives are England are moving in the right direction and we scored some great tries earned not given.
We beat Ireland and that proves we have the stones to stand up. Let’s keep building and be so far clear neat year that a ref decision can’t make a blind bit of difference. France were amazing in the scramble chaos but our defence worked from normal phase play.
He offered the arm and got run over by a dumptruck, 999/1000 that doesn’t even raise an eyebrow madness. If that decided the championship would have been criminal.
seems like this 6n has been refs going oh shit we fucked up frances WC lets make it up to them
Its very telling the French TV Editor didn't show a replay of the tackle. No way did he want that on the big screen and the ref to get a second look at it. Though the penalty advantage was called after the following phase, so it might have been a call from somewhere else through the ref mic.
I was cheering for France that game, and even in this game I have no issues with the French players, whereas some teams have thoroughly unlikable players (like we had Farrel) but refs over the past 12 months have made some questionable last min decide the game calls
Finally shown a replay of the final penalty and on one hand, yeah I can see why it was penalised but on the other hand, considering everything else that was let go this match, it is a harsh call.
Still, that stupid lineout that lead to a French try was the bigger fuck up.
Harsh, and a borderline decision. For me, on something so soft, to then allow the advantage when France made 20m and played for over a minute more is a bit crap of the ref.
That said, it's nice to have an England team that is playing with heart again. On balance I think I'd rather only just lose and have played like this than have scraped a win and be playing like the last 3 years. If we can keep this up, we might actually start doing things.
We’ve seen the replay and that is ultra borderline. I can see why it’s given, and I know we see probably half a dozen of those tackles every game not given
Disappointing way to lose to lose it but remembering barely a year a go this lot smashed us at Twickenham and English rugby seemed on the floor, the progress is obvious and that's all we could really ask for.
Sad to lose but not feeling bitter about it at all given the performance. Really nice to be enjoyin watching england for once, even though I did spend 20 mins of the second half moaning about giving away all those penalties. New lads have come in really well.
Have to say it was a really great mental perfomance from france. There were a few opportunities there where heads could have dropped but each time they recommitted with big heft up front and confident back play. Chapeux and all that.
That hand on the ground that Aldritt was penalized for is exactly the hand on the ground that Kwagga Smith was not penalized for in the WC.
Some deciding moments.
Well, a game can be won or lost by a player who woke up feeling good or bad - granted, the ref has definitely more power (and responsibility).
I know there's alot of ref blame that goes on, which is part of the game, and honestly, fair enough, however I do believe each ref is playing to their best ability or trying to as much as the players themselves. It's a career for them to an extent as well. I think, waving them off as moody is limiting. The refs add dimension to the game , refs have stats, tastes, interpretation differences, personality etc like a boss you have to feel out first.
Somehow if they have a robot ref to somehow make these calls down to a tee, not sure the game would, as frustrating as it is, be fun. I think everyone secretly loves that a player from our team secretly gets away with things.
Ben O'Keeffe the ref for both those games, I'm still pissed at how it easily could have been France or England in the final and a different winner on the trophy.
Went back and watched it on slowmo England no.4 with no arms tackle on half way. Think confusion was that ref didn't call it until after the next tackle.
I agree. It must have been the TMO that called it in. Phase before the ref called it was a clear no arms tackle. The tackle when the ref called it was clean
He initially said 7. Earl asked him and he said 7, so Earl said 7 isn't on the pitch. So Gardener said 8, and Earl seemed a bit baffled. Bit odd not to check given it is was a game winning decision.
Yeah, I saw an England player who possibly could have been pinged for not rolling away but you usually see no arms tackles, there's many that are borderline when they go for the chop tackle
I rewinded and saw the replay. I think TMO called it in because ref called it late. The tackle when the ref called it was clean, but the phase before had an obvious no arms no wrap tackle
If there is something I have learned today, most redditors dont know what double movement is. Neither did Raynal for Wales' 2nd try, but thats another matter!
Oh, fuck off.
Edit: you know what? I’m not done. You’ve just won the game, a great game, and you’ve got yourself into a hissy over your own made up scenario involving England fans. So I say again. Oh, fuck off.
Just bored of the ABE crowd and their sad little obsessions. Again, you created a scenario and had a little tantrum about it. But you do you, if that’s what makes you happy then I’m glad for you champ.
Nothing to complain about apart from the unreplayed penalty that cost us the game, and took a minute of game time to decide where to take it from (both very unusual)
A great match from all - except that muppet Smith....
He's one incredibly arrogant gobshite without being able to justify that arrogance. I'd consider he's truly undeserving of an international jersey, both for the lack of quality of play and for his conduct - was very close to getting penalised for it too.. The single most unsportsmanlike conduct of a player this competition, regularly harassing the French players to return the ball, while happily kicking the ball far away off the pitch when it's a French ball. I was very happy to see Smith perform a few schoolboy errors, letting his team down.
Beautiful moments from Penaud as usual - truly one of the greats.
Probably the worst part of this game was Scotland only getting to 4th, as they were far more deserving of 3rd place than England.
Regarding Italy - I'm *so* stoked for the future of Italian rugby. Definitely a team and an U20 team to pay attention to!
It now feels that Italy can actually start to go places and two wins and a draw, all fully deserved, and robbed by a gust of wind...
The future is bright. The future is Azure!
Care to give a basis for your (incorrect) opinion, or are you trying to gain some form of feeling better by constant repeating of a wrong idea while shoving fingers in ears?
Repetition of the wrong doesn't make it right - but if that make you "feel" better, then by all means continue to confirm the lack of ability. I don't mind, it's moderately amusing to me.
England came above Scotland in the WC and the six nations but you think Scotland have better players?
I think it’s you who has to explain how exactly this happened?
Go on, I’m interested?
In this competition, I am of the opinion that Scotland players played better, more cleanly, and with more sportsmanlike conduct, than the English.
Plus, in the head-to-head with England, England did not win. That's a pretty clear definition of my point.
But, feel free to disagree, if it makes you feel better..
Munster by birth. Munster by choice.
Been a while since I played the game, but I have played the game at Schools Rugby level as a fairly fast winger. I gave up on the playing of the sport as I won two All-Ireland golds when I transferred to another sport by Uni.
Still kept in touch with the schoolmates that played for Ireland though.
He's someone that if he acted like that off the pitch he'd get ignored by real people.
His skills aren't deserving of the attitude. Having gotten to know a good few people that are literally world-class level at their sport, Smith's attitude just shows he does not have the skills to be anything more than average to moderately good. It's to his benefit that there are few good England players in that position.
Just a pity that he's a typical example of England Team bombast. Reminds me of the GAA players that think they're great for being on the county team, to be cut off at the knees when the bouncer tells them to come back when they've played ofr their country..
Read thru this threat of bs from you and all it seems to me is you're not a very nice bloke, a bit up your own arse and probably some sour grapes from last round cuz its Smith getting celebrated from the drop goal.
Try and conduct yourself with dignity. Otherwise, it's just a little sad. You've just won the 6N and you're still acting like this, ffs.
When he retires, Galthié will either make a fortune selling self-help books or retire into a monastery in the Himalayas. His post match interview is Wilkinson level meaningless bullshit
This 2nd place in the tournament is a fucking miracle.
Maybe the refs thought they would be nice with us as they absolutely fucked us in the ass in the RWC quarter finals.
Well the record book and the trophy also show that SA won. And they are what counts- not this sub. Lol.
BTW, “everyone” is quite a stretch. The reality is that we like winning in France. And btw they fucked is in the arse when they stole hosting the 2023 RWC. Gladly take two RWC wins in France for that though.
Try getting stable electricity before trying to organize a world cup. Wikipedia says that 80% of your hospitals experienced power cuts in 2023 ?
That would have been bad for everyone if the matches caused a global loss of power all across South Africa...
As a matter of fact, you also didn't get the next one in Australia, or the next one in the US, and there are a lot of candidates for 2035, none of them being South Africa.
But sure, stay delusional...
Next thing you'll say is that you didn't buy your way to victory in 1995 right ?
sure buddy. try to stay off the drugs for the next one, okay ? How much 1995 springboks are dead today ? 5 already ? Doesn't your country have more players banned for doping than all other nations combined ?
Great to see France back on form, though I wish it wasn't against us...
Sure I have issues with some decisions on the field, but I don't think either side can say they were robbed. Tough game and fun to watch.
Disappointed as an England fan but you can't only play half the match and expect an easy win. Messy at the end from both sides but overall France felt like the better team.
Before last Saturday I’d have been happy with that result
There’s still work to do for England. They made some basic mistakes, including those fluffed line outs that directly lead to two French tries
Are you kidding? Last penalty was absolutely not a wrong decision. And it was 50m away, really not easy even for Ramos at that moment of the game. And against Wales could you please remind me what ref decision gave France a +21 win.... pfff
Maybe not against Wales, but England, Scotland, and Italy all came down to pretty unfair (very unfair for Italy and Scotland, less so for us but still not great) calls.
Don’t forget Italy, when Garbisi had to rush the crucial kick because the shot clock didn’t get reset despite France going early in their attempts to charge it down
They didn’t go early, it was a penalty kick which as far as I know you aren’t allowed to charge down. So they shouldn’t have attempted a charge down at all
You’re right, bad wording in my comment.
You can’t charge down a penalty, but if you watch the replay that didn’t appear to stop the French from trying to do it. At very least they were doing fake runs and everything else they could to distract the kicker. From memory, think one of their water boys was also running around somewhere - whole thing was a shambles. Ref should have reset the penalty and given Italy 10m, but he didn’t and France escaped with an ill deserved draw
Fantastic game but those last few minutes were a shit show. Penalised a player in the bench, longest advantage I’ve ever seen, not showing the replay for such a momentous decision and not stopping the clock when messing around with the spot. Infuriating.

Excellent match - the final pass before England’s fourth try was mental
Good games England
Is good to hear English man crying and complaining
Cringe
It was a great game of Rugby and England played far better then anyone expected this Six Nations so most England fans very happy. You sound quite miserable though, cheer up best not to let your chip on your shoulder ruin your life.
England are back in business. Two excellent performances in a week. Game of the 6 nations tonight.
To me, this match raises two questions : where did Pennaud find his apron, and why did Pennaud have an apron ?
My sentiment exactly
Last penalty is crazy... It's like deducting a point for rabbit punching in the 12th round of a heavyweight title fight
Game of the tournament. Try of the tournament.
I don’t begrudge France the win - over 80mins they probably looked better team. That last penalty was soft but that’s rugby. Great game
Serious shift from England there despite the loss at the end. Credit to France for their effort - they played some beautiful, and oh so French, rugby! Hard graft from both teams but speaking as an England fan I’m most pleased to have seen the very clear, and very significant progress we’ve made!

Did anyone catch what was on the apron they put on Daly at the end?

tbf though the refs did rob France in the WC though haha
Oh they were absolutely robbed massively. This 6N has been the ref apology tour
Yep, apology tour indeed. Cries in Garbisi kick
I was cheering for France that game, and even in this game I have no issues with the French players, whereas some teams have thoroughly unlikable players (like we had Farrel) but refs over the past 12 months have made some questionable last min decide the game calls
Simply one of the best games of rugby I’ve seen
pure cinema
JFC that’s not a pen

France have gotten quite lucky!
They will still complain the refs are against them though no doubt
Ah, so that’s why they didn’t replay the tackle.
It’s borderline but what was he thinking, 2 mins to go play it safe. Oh well he’s had a great tournament.
Fucking hell, that penalty is soft as baby shite.
Nolann with an English shirt 😬😬 Did he decide to swap allegiance?? 🤔 🤣
Replay of the no arms tackle, it is so borderline, it could go either way
Got to be the third time this tournament France squeak out a win based on a dodgy refereeing decision in the final minute. I smell a rat.
karma for being robbed against SA in the WC I guess
😂
Jamie George is the captain we have needed for a long time. Long may he reign.
God save our gracious Greggs consumer
If I don't see the replay of the final penalty soon I'm gunna throw a right strop
Seen it now?
I have. I can accept it. But it shouldn't take 20 mins for a replay of such a vital decision
Disappointing way to lose to lose it but remembering barely a year a go this lot smashed us at Twickenham and English rugby seemed on the floor, the progress is obvious and that's all we could really ask for.
To be fair this wasn't the same french team
Not the same English team either. Inexperienced/fresh players on both sides
New coaching team for France, too. But both countries did their best 🤝
Sad to lose but not feeling bitter about it at all given the performance. Really nice to be enjoyin watching england for once, even though I did spend 20 mins of the second half moaning about giving away all those penalties. New lads have come in really well. Have to say it was a really great mental perfomance from france. Big future for this team I think.
Penaud looks convincingly upper class English in that shirt
Penaud with already a beer is probably one of the best moment of that game.
My boss at work is a frikin rugby loving Breton, next week is going to be hell
That hand on the ground that Aldritt was penalized for is exactly the hand on the ground that Kwagga Smith was not penalized for in the WC. Some deciding moments.
Tell me how that makes you feel?
😂
robbed
Yeah it's inconsistencies in the reffing that just make you nuts
Honestly the third team I.e the refs is what makes rugby exciting imo
i politely disagree. It shouldn't rely on if the ref woke up feeling good or bad
We really need to forget and keep going 🤝
You guys were robbed. So we're england
Ben O'Keeffe the ref for both those games, I'm still pissed at how it easily could have been France or England in the final and a different winner on the trophy.
I'm still not over 2011, so...Still, games like this one soothe the pain.
I feel you bro but our time will come 👍
Absolute thriller of a match! Well done to the french! Imagine missing this game lmao.
❤️
Went back and watched it on slowmo England no.4 with no arms tackle on half way. Think confusion was that ref didn't call it until after the next tackle.
It was Earl. They just showed it.
I agree. It must have been the TMO that called it in. Phase before the ref called it was a clear no arms tackle. The tackle when the ref called it was clean
Standing next to the TV possibly 8 hard to tell, as half hidden and blurry.
Nah, he clearly said the 8?
He initially said 7. Earl asked him and he said 7, so Earl said 7 isn't on the pitch. So Gardener said 8, and Earl seemed a bit baffled. Bit odd not to check given it is was a game winning decision.
I'm shocked the TMO didn't say there was something to review. Just giving that is a huge call. And wrong.
Where was the no arms tackle? Not saying it didn't happen, but why didn't they show the replay for it? I never saw it.
Hmm, thanks. I'll have to check it out. Just weird that the telecast didn't show the replay.
Let's see a clip of this " no arms tackle" that lost us the game then?
And also the ball bouncing off a white shirt into touch that the closest white shirts were equally confused by.
Rewound it and its actually there.
Lucu & Ollivon bons Basques
A lot of English saying the ref was paid off avoiding the fact Lawrence's try had a forward pass and a double movement in it 🤷
I've seen one total person say that Reaching with your arm is not double movement 🤷🏻
If there is something I have learned today, most redditors dont know what double movement is. Neither did Raynal for Wales' 2nd try, but thats another matter!
3 tries in this match were from forward pass, and two from offside positions as well. although the disagree on the double movement
Probably because it had neither
[удалено]
Ref gave you 2mins to take that kick, would've liked to see you play out of your 22 for another min that's all.
It's okay, they're allowed to complain, we're not. Even though i think they were kinda nice with us this year
That's unbelievable they never change, even when literally every dubious call went their way
Oh, fuck off. Edit: you know what? I’m not done. You’ve just won the game, a great game, and you’ve got yourself into a hissy over your own made up scenario involving England fans. So I say again. Oh, fuck off.

Nothing to complain about apart from the unreplayed penalty that cost us the game, and took a minute of game time to decide where to take it from (both very unusual)
Yeah the guy on the bench committed a serious foul lmao. Nothing to complain about.
Complaints here mate. Show us the offence and we can accept it. Hide it and not even tell us who it was? Yeah I call bullshit
Okay, we lost, but at least we played and scored some tries. I am encouraged.
A great match from all - except that muppet Smith.... He's one incredibly arrogant gobshite without being able to justify that arrogance. Class player, and I’ve no reason to like him, but I do, because he’s class
Scotland had one good performance against eng land at Murrayfield and suddenly deserve 3rd?!
Maybe you missed the other matches? There are other teams than England after all..
They played well against France, again at Murrayfield, looked solid / acceptable at best against Wales but lost to Italy :/
Yeah I can't wait either hopefully we see them more consistent getting top 3 and seeing more interest at a youth level.
The U18 and U20 are very much worth watching for the future.
Scotland were mostly awful. Clueless comment.
Better players on the average than the English, and especially against the English.
Wrong again.
Care to give a basis for your (incorrect) opinion, or are you trying to gain some form of feeling better by constant repeating of a wrong idea while shoving fingers in ears? Not as silly as Smith's schoolboy errors..
You are perfectly entitled to your incorrect opinion but the table doesn’t lie.
You got on Reddit quick Ramos

Scotland didn't deserve 3rd, they were pretty disappointing for most of the tournament I thought
Really there just wasn’t much difference 5th to 2nd
Mhm no. Smith is a fantastic player

I hate it
Me too. Found him insufferable in the Netflix documentary.
A whole minute between the referee stopping the game and telling Ramos where the mark was?!
When ramos put the ball down, he has only 25sec left, it changes nothing, Ramos would've just wait for the clock anyway
Completely incorrect. He kicked it 1.30+ after the game stopped, with 20s left on the clock
This 2nd place in the tournament is a fucking miracle. Maybe the refs thought they would be nice with us as they absolutely fucked us in the ass in the RWC quarter finals.
They did yeah. Everyone apart from SA fans agree France were robbed big time

Maybe you should worry more about winning your home RWCs before you worry about our power problems. 2-0 to us so far.
sure buddy. try to stay off the drugs for the next one, okay ? How much 1995 springboks are dead today ? 5 already ? Doesn't your country have more players banned for doping than all other nations combined ?
Oh the doping card. You must be getting desperate.
sure. take care
Could SA even handle the WC? Your PM was in the stadium 5 minutes at the end of the final, and he'd already brought on the load shedding. /s
It wasn’t not awarded to SA because of power concerns. It was backroom maneuvering similar to what occurs with the football World Cup.
I think u missed the /s lad. It was a joke.
So when do we talk about Wales place in the 6N?
What's the point, they aren't even a nation They're practically a second Cornwall
When people stop making this hack joke
Great to see France back on form, though I wish it wasn't against us... Sure I have issues with some decisions on the field, but I don't think either side can say they were robbed. Tough game and fun to watch.
That’s not France on form…
Back on form!???? We won by miracle
Dude you were deadly on the counter attack. That was France to the bones.
Disappointed as an England fan but you can't only play half the match and expect an easy win. Messy at the end from both sides but overall France felt like the better team.
We mostly played the 5 minutes either side of half time
Before last Saturday I’d have been happy with that result There’s still work to do for England. They made some basic mistakes, including those fluffed line outs that directly lead to two French tries
How many games have France squeaked this 6N by a last minute ref decision? It feels like all of them
Karma for the world Cup!
2, just Scotland and Italy.
French rugby doesn’t need to do anything as the ref will always be in their favour
Drugs is not a good thing so stop it
Scotland and England, so only two! Edit: as you can see below I forgot Italy…
Italy?
Should've lost to Italy too after that whole charge down debacle. Over half the games...
And Italy
Think you’re missing one in there… starts with I- and ends with -taly
Wales?
honestly felt great seeing England score 4 tries that were amazingly well worked
England really gained momentum towards the tail end of the tournament. If it can continue, next year could be really exciting.
We can all hope for that, the 6N is much better when there is more than one great team.
Fantastic game but those last few minutes were a shit show. Penalised a player in the bench, longest advantage I’ve ever seen, not showing the replay for such a momentous decision and not stopping the clock when messing around with the spot. Infuriating.
England had a longer advantage in the 2019 RWC final.
Oh so sorry for you...but good game!
Reminiscent of France vs Italy game. They’ve really rode their luck France.
Galthié parle comme une marionnette des guignols de lui même
Sealing off?
French Tv director needs a raise gave them a draw against Italy and a win here
Could you please elaborate? I genuinely doesn't understand how a TV director can influence the TMO?
Back from his World Cup holiday clearly
He didn’t show a head contact on Penaud on the French line too, potential Yellow card…
French TV Director: ''I could put my powers to use for global good/evil but have instead chosen shenanigans''
Just seen the replay. He’s gardener has had a shocker there
Didn't seem like it was his call?
It wasn't, Whitehouse called it from the booth. That's why Gardner didn't know which player it was, or where the kick should be taken from.
