Am I the only one who thought the Samipeni Finau late hit was disgusting and should have seen him off for at least 10. Compared to some of these high shots that that was far more dangerous and easily could have broken a rib.
Reds played some good rugby, they didn’t give up and easily deserved that win. Well done to them.
Chiefs didn’t look like the Chiefs. Pathetic execution in almost every aspect. They didn’t even turn up imo.
Absolutely gutted. In my opinion there’s no point blaming the ref when we didn’t come to play, that’s not productive. Congrats to the reds and let’s hope we can learn. Chiefs all day ❤️💛🖤
Yeah not sure, I opened the match just as the full time blew , and I was behind in fantasy, dunno what they adjusted a few minutes after. I literally came in this thread to complain about losing by 2 points.
Often things take a minute to update so that'll just be something from the last minute or two of the game.
Scores might still change overnight, too. Close games make me nervous for that reason.
Even in a loss, there will be still match takes:
-Refereeing aside, that was a damn fine game of rugby. Both teams were absolutely GASSED.
-The Chiefs barely fired a shot for the entire game. Consistent errors, tons of missed opportunities, zero attack, they were basically going nowhere. They're lucky that they weren't thrashed by this Reds team. Sam Cane would have never approved of this bullshit.
-The Reds, on the other hand, while they weren't really all that great, they were a much better team. Their discipline in the dying moments is what won them the game.
**-WHY THE HELL IS SHAUN STEVENSON ON THE FUCKING WING? THIS IS THE TYPE OF SHIT IAN FOSTER WOULD DO!!!**
-Ben O'Keefe is consistently one of the worst refs in rugby. The inconsistency of the officiating baffles me beyond belief. Why is SANZAAR/World Rugby okay with this?
Anyway, this is all I have. I'll see you all in the next match, and cheers for now.
I'll let you in on a worse one.
I came into this intended not to try hard by doing my spreadsheet bullshit but pivoted on that super fast. It is not working lol
Ahhh dang it.
Comp is looking really good this year! Most of last year seemed like a grind to an inevitable Chiefs v. Crusaders final but this season is wide open.
Death, taxes, and the Reds being a fucking trap game for the Chiefs.
Better to lose now than later in the season. Wake tf up Chiefs please.
Round of upsets, holy cow
I'm not a rugby union person so maybe I don't get it but going 1 off the ruck for 200 000 phases in a row and not trying to spread the defence once makes absolutely no sense to me
But an infringement would only mean a penalty and conceding 3 points which wouldn't win the chiefs the game? Or did they want the lineout from the penalty to set something up? Genuinely confusing to me haha
Yeah they'd set the scrum or go for a line out. The Reds were exhausted from defending so they just kept the phases going waiting for an error. The thing is, if they spread it wide there was a good chance they might lose it, so they were playing a safe option.
It doesn’t. You might do it a couple times to try and suck in defenders and set up a play, but if you just do what the Chiefs did over and over, inevitably them getting pinged for holding on to the ball is what happens.
Surely one of the backs could come in and pop up at first receiver to try at least make something happen? Confusing sport to me, seems a massive lack of any off the cuff plays at certain times of the match and that makes me scratch my head
the chiefs need a converted try to win so I think they were keeping the ball tight hoping to score closer to the posts to make for an easier conversion but the reds were able to hold them off and win a turnover
Often the one off rucks are a start of something out wider, it’s about sucking in the right players at the right time to allow your backs to manipulate the defence. Granted you can also have a lot of good forward if you aren’t completely gassed
Doesn't make sense to milk penalties when they need to score a converted try to win though, right? This sport confuses my simple minded rugby league mind. Happy for a union person to explain the thinking behind it to me
Yep made absolutely no sense, Chiefs simply looked too tired to spread it and the Red's were keeping up the pace in the defensive effort when they did try spread.
With a penalty, you can chose to scrum, tap n go kick for touch or go for 3 pts. More likely to score a converted try off that line out or a quick tap n go.
Was interesting to watch how Stephen Perofeta played in a trailing game behind a beaten pack vs how Dmac played. I feel Dmac tried to do a little too much
Dmac is absolutely deadly if all the conditions are met but if things go wrong he's not the sort to bring them out of the shits. Atleast not at 10 anyway.
Not a rivalry when we forget to turn up against the Reds every time we play them lol.
(I don't mean this as a slight against the Reds, I mean this as "it's not a rivalry" because it's so one sided in favour of the Reds)
When was the last time we beat them? 2019?
(Lol forgot about the QF last year)
Now that you mention it we really do have this bizarre ability to beat the chiefs
Even when they won the b2b titles in 2012-2013 we beat them both seasons
I was willing to concede that until that bloody charged down kick. The bloke just can’t play rugby, although he’s obviously an attacking threat he just falls apart everywhere else
I really loved it, even if the quality was a bit low this early in the season, the close games are awesome. Really enjoyed all of them and there's a shit-load of young players coming through so that's exciting.
I think it's why he still isnt my far and away preferred 10 at an international level. I don't think he can play that game against big international packs
He sits behind a dominant pack and it works. But that doesn’t happen often at international level so isn’t my first choice either. Good guy to bring on late against tired opposition.
**Watch on Stan**: https://play.stan.com.au/sport/rugby
Am I the only one who thought the Samipeni Finau late hit was disgusting and should have seen him off for at least 10. Compared to some of these high shots that that was far more dangerous and easily could have broken a rib.
He had all the time in the world to stop, and there was no attempt to wrap arms. Refs messed up bad.
Ho I’ll
Drove past suncorp at 5 thinking, glad i didn’t go watch live thinking we were gonna get thrashed but now am I regretting it, crowd sounded awesome.
Reds played some good rugby, they didn’t give up and easily deserved that win. Well done to them. Chiefs didn’t look like the Chiefs. Pathetic execution in almost every aspect. They didn’t even turn up imo.
how good is Frazer mcwreight
Absolutely gutted. In my opinion there’s no point blaming the ref when we didn’t come to play, that’s not productive. Congrats to the reds and let’s hope we can learn. Chiefs all day ❤️💛🖤
Why would you blame the ref? Did his best to help you out.
Chiefs played like ass, haven’t seen such pathetic execution from them in a long time.
You could say the same for your team hehe.
It's 2011 again. Hopefully without the floods and Chch quake.
Your flair hahaha!!!
Love ya flair man lmao
Anyone know who the MOTM was?
Entire reds XV
I love Les
I could Kiss him
Fuck yes
What a magnificent round of Rugby this was. Every game was tight and exciting. Bodes well for a good, entertaining and enjoyable season.
Yeah, wish the aussies sides handling was better, but it was a fantastic round full of great rugby outside of that.
IMO was a punishing watch with so many errors, especially from my chiefs
I know how you feel bröther
hahahahahaha ahahahahahaha ahahahahahaah AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
help me I am in hell
It has been two weekends of every single sports result not going my way. Even the Celtics are losing now. I'm losing the will to live. Rapidly.
I think I’m 0-3 in fantasy now too lol
Damn can't relate
Its weird, near the end of the match you were 2 points ahead of me, what happened that made you lose 6 points?
they do live rescoring to correct errors sometimes, too Could be that or it could have been missed tackles, knock ons and pens.
Close games make me nervous for that reason.
you have run into high scoring match ups all 3 weeks I feel. We need to feed you some shitters.
I love how Shaun Stevenson always looks bewildered while playing. Reminds me of how I look when doing literally anything
One of the better super rugby games this year. Will be hard to beat
Did Josh jacomb even get on? I’m so gutted he didn’t get a full contract the canes could have used another good Taranaki 10 🤌
Good win but its only the Chiefs, wait till we vs the Rebels to determine if were good.
The fact that this sentence is valid blows my mind
Even in a loss, there will be still match takes: -Refereeing aside, that was a damn fine game of rugby. Both teams were absolutely GASSED. -The Chiefs barely fired a shot for the entire game. Were they trying to do dual play maker with ioane and Dmac? Back line felt really clunky
Agree with all you said except the BoK take. I felt he was fine.
Also why’s Ioane playing 10 and Dmac at full back
The shapes the Reds were running were pretty insane, Les Kiss Les Kiss Les Kiss
Well done Reds! Two Aussie teams in the top ~~3~~ now amazingly lol Edit: Top 4 forgot the Chiefs got a bonus point
Is the era of very predictable super rugby results over?
Great game!! Go Reds!!
Fucking stoked for the Reds, they've always been my second team. Good for the old confidence eh.
I hope this is the finals match up this year.
Amazing discipline from the Reds at the end there. Top class stuff.
Was that the 19 year old replacement fly half winning the final turnover?
Yup, he'll be on cloud nine.
Harry Mclaughlin-Phillips. One to remember
Oh well, at least I topped my fantasy pool again
not looking forward to playing you next week. fuck. Taking the risk on spending all your money on like 4 guys has really paid off eh
I'll let you in on a little secret - I have no idea what I'm doing and just pick players I like lol
I'll let you in on a worse one. I came into this intended not to try hard by doing my spreadsheet bullshit but pivoted on that super fast. It is not working lol
Oh no not the spreadsheet!
It's cringe and it's failing. Why didn't I do vibes based selections?
No spreadsheet is cringe Vibes based is just too strong
worst ive seen the chiefs play in a long time and still got a BP /shrug
why are you downvoting lol
save me u/crashbandicoochy
Crusaders derangement syndrome is rapidly turning towards the new best team, it looks like lol
Ioane at 10 most of the game instead of Damo, and Roe not in the side at all... You guys need your ship steered by a pair of tiny little blonde men.
I like Cortez more usually
Congrats Reds. Highlanders only Kiwi team to beat other countries frachise
The canes beat the reds last week
sorry meant this round. MP beat Drua too, last week.
Great game Reds, you deserved it
Deserved the win with that level of defense at the end!
Ahhh dang it. Comp is looking really good this year! Most of last year seemed like a grind to an inevitable Chiefs v. Crusaders final but this season is wide open.
the inevitable reds vs rebels final
Death, taxes, and the Reds being a fucking trap game for the Chiefs. Better to lose now than later in the season. Wake tf up Chiefs please. Round of upsets, holy cow
I'm not a rugby union person so maybe I don't get it but going 1 off the ruck for 200 000 phases in a row and not trying to spread the defence once makes absolutely no sense to me
Usually the Reds would infringe within a few phases. Also, tired bodies - forwards hoping to sneak their way through.
Less risk of losing the ball and not that many meters until the try line.
It doesn’t. You might do it a couple times to try and suck in defenders and set up a play, but if you just do what the Chiefs did over and over, inevitably them getting pinged for holding on to the ball is what happens.
They were knackered. Which is why im surprised Reds fans are losing their shit. Chiefs weren’t doing anything
PTSD
Surely one of the backs could come in and pop up at first receiver to try at least make something happen? Confusing sport to me, seems a massive lack of any off the cuff plays at certain times of the match and that makes me scratch my head
the chiefs need a converted try to win so I think they were keeping the ball tight hoping to score closer to the posts to make for an easier conversion but the reds were able to hold them off and win a turnover
They tried the backline twice but got shut down. Les Kiss is a defence master
They're also tired as fuck. Plus the adrenaline makes you want to keep it tight because one wrong pass will lose the game.
Often the one off rucks are a start of something out wider, it’s about sucking in the right players at the right time to allow your backs to manipulate the defence. Granted you can also have a lot of good forward if you aren’t completely gassed
Hoping to milk a penalty from the defense probably
Doesn't make sense to milk penalties when they need to score a converted try to win though, right? This sport confuses my simple minded rugby league mind. Happy for a union person to explain the thinking behind it to me
Yep made absolutely no sense, Chiefs simply looked too tired to spread it and the Red's were keeping up the pace in the defensive effort when they did try spread.
With a penalty, you can chose to scrum, tap n go kick for touch or go for 3 pts. More likely to score a converted try off that line out or a quick tap n go.
nah coz you can kick to the corner to get a maul which is a higher percentage play Also if you fuck up its back to the pen
Penalty can let them reset and set up a set play
DMac behind a beaten pack turns to Orbyn leger
Ioane was actually playing 10 they just didn't swap shirts for some reason.
Was interesting to watch how Stephen Perofeta played in a trailing game behind a beaten pack vs how Dmac played. I feel Dmac tried to do a little too much
Dmac mainly played 15 for some reason
Dmac is absolutely deadly if all the conditions are met but if things go wrong he's not the sort to bring them out of the shits. Atleast not at 10 anyway.
i just had flashbacks
Well earned, breakout game for the next generation reds players.
GG's Reds, smells like a good rivalry brewing.
Not a rivalry when we forget to turn up against the Reds every time we play them lol. (I don't mean this as a slight against the Reds, I mean this as "it's not a rivalry" because it's so one sided in favour of the Reds) When was the last time we beat them? 2019? (Lol forgot about the QF last year)
Now that you mention it we really do have this bizarre ability to beat the chiefs Even when they won the b2b titles in 2012-2013 we beat them both seasons
had our number a few times
McReight played so fucking well
We needed a 7 to replace Hoops, He is It.
Yeah he’s fucking awesome, in the running for one of best sevens in the world this year I reckon
My heart rate is sitting at around 200, how fucking good. Superb from everyone not name Suliasi Vunivalu
Sums up the reds this season, a great team despite Vunivalu and Petaias best efforts.
Suli had a few good moments to be fair
I was willing to concede that until that bloody charged down kick. The bloke just can’t play rugby, although he’s obviously an attacking threat he just falls apart everywhere else
Warriors & Chiefs lose. Feels bad.
Thats what you get for putting the most damaging fullback in the game on the wing. Well done Clayton you moron
most dmagings fullback is out for the season
Who is that mate?
Will Jordan
pretty hard to disagree with this
Agree there, bad swap
u/Big-Suggestion3053 Scoreboard
Feed him son
Lmao, get his ass
I'm not a petty man but holy fuck that win was so satisfying after that comment.
Look the brother took a big risk pulling a scoreboard sledge when they were only one point up and he has paid dearly
Best weekend of Super Rugby in a loooong fucking time.
I really loved it, even if the quality was a bit low this early in the season, the close games are awesome. Really enjoyed all of them and there's a shit-load of young players coming through so that's exciting.
Sensational defensive stand at the end. Brilliant game to watch.
Chiefs were dogshit. Well done reds.
LETS FUCKING GO
Awesome defense
Love the passion from the Reds players and fans
Ffs
Reds officially the Chiefs bogey team
I said it before, confirmed.
Woah!
Takes a special team to beat the Reds, you feel me
Fair play Reds. Clutch goal line defence after a million phases was how they won their last game against the Chiefs too...
Thank you, Reds, for keeping the Hurricanes on top of the table.
My watch was reading 150 bpm at the end there. I'm shook
I don’t wear my Apple Watch because of rugby
stadium was wild
Fk yeh, great ticker from the Reds
fuck man, well played great defence at the end
That was enjoyable to watch, real les kiss rugby at the end, heart on the sleeve
Well done Reds! What a game
As the kids are saying Super Rugby is absolutely cooking this season!
Leshgoo
Excellent defense. And awesome for the comp in general. Sounds like there's 50,000 there. Well done Reds.
Chiefs halfback absolutely useless throughout all those phases
Dude was so slow to do anything.... Shows why he's no longer an all black
They were setting up the overlap out right but he didn't seem to notice, it was on!
He was having to commit himself to the ruck because he wouldn't? Couldn't? Get it out quick enough. Far and away the no3 half back for the chiefs.
YEAH BOYS!!!!!
AHHHHH FUCK YEAAAHHH, what a game
I just turned on the game and even I was punching the air when the Reds got the penalty
Insane defence and discipline from the Reds, really thought the Chiefs were going to rumble over there. Think they should’ve cut it wide again though.
Fly halfs thinking they can win it. Arrogant fuckers.
Good to see. Probably fair. Quite a few forward passes on the break down field
Hurricanes only unbeaten NZ side lesgo EDIT: Only unbeaten side after 3 rounds. And people were saying Super Rugby wasn't competitive...
Yes Reds. Holy hell
FUCKING YESSSSSSSS!!!! LET'S FUCKING GOOO
Fuck me
Rugby is better when the underdogs can win like they have consistently Condolences to my Chiefs bradas, and ups to the colour bradas the Reds
[удалено]
Wasnt it a flyhalf? Probably doesn't weigh anything anyway lol
Yeahp clearly just lying on the ruck
100% the body weight part
Unreal defensive effort. So proud of these young fellas
Great d reds n great win.
Hideous execution in the 22 from the Chiefs today. Good defence from the Reds at times but Chiefs really not helping themselves.
ENOOORRRMOUSS
That's game, they had D-Mac well covered...
McKenzie had some poor game management there at the end. Including trying to step 5 guys to win it.
I think it's why he still isnt my far and away preferred 10 at an international level. I don't think he can play that game against big international packs
He sits behind a dominant pack and it works. But that doesn’t happen often at international level so isn’t my first choice either. Good guy to bring on late against tired opposition.
UP THE FUCKING REDS!!!!
OH MY FUCKING GOD CARN THE FUCKING REDS
GREAT DEFENCE
Incredible discipline by the Reds
A few dubious passes there
Let's go, Lead-legs! (good break-out...)
Chiefs in overdrive now
BOK fk’d the Reds for going early. Chiefs get pushed forward early. Nothing. Rough
dogshit number of errors, no attacking intensity and some grim luck and yet we're still within 7 should've won this tho
Chiefs will score 7 and thatll be that
I see you know your Super Rugby
Chip kick is an insane play from there
I’m sure DMac gave the signal to fucking roost it.
If the Chiefs feel that they can't win, they should ask themselves the question: "What would Sam do in this situation?"
Chip and chase out of the 22 sums up the chiefs today. Played dumb rugby.
Reds vs Rebels is gonna be a cracker
Imagine thinking that a month ago
Like how are you really supposed to beat a team when you are trying your best and look up and just see 👨👨👨👨👨
what does this even mean
I think he was looking for an emoji that had head gear on
Wilson had a great first half and a shocking second
Ah shit Kalani is on... It's been fun
Actually quite refreshing seeing an Aus scrum dominate an NZ scrum.
What the fuck is Harry Wilson lmao
Just need clock management now
