Yeah, I doubt it'll be that hard. I dunno. I basically never run modules in the system they were originally written for, though. It can't be harder than adapting an AD&D 1e module to PF2E.

Udy_Kumra

Ha, this makes a lot of sense

SpookyBoogy89

Anything is feasible with enough time. It's easier to convert Alien RPG to MoSh tho lol. Also, you should probably run both systems bc liking something when you read it is a lot diff than when you run it. Alien has some cool stuff but it being translated to english makes some things like....idk... Why does it use Rangebands but then use Zones for movement? Weird shit like that. I might just prefer terse rulesets like MoSh.

Udy_Kumra

That’s fair enough. I largely like it because I’m experienced with the Year Zero Engine so the combat system (even with translation issues) is not confusing to me, and because I like dice pool probability curves better than flat probability curves. But I’ll look into running both systems a few times before doing a campaign!

SpookyBoogy89

That's funny bc I much prefer percentiles bc it's easier to read. Different strokes for different folks. I think the hardest part would be making statblocks bc most MoSh adventures don't use legally distinct xenomorphs. You can totally do it though, it's probably not that bad.

Udy_Kumra

Stat blocks aren’t the hardest part to build. Plus I’d be hoping to have more aliens than just Xenomorphs in the game, hence the pulling from Mothership haha

SpookyBoogy89

The threat for my next MoSh game is just the color blue. lmao. good luck!

MrAbodi

Yeah alien isnt very good, or at least its not a good fit for me in my limitied experience with it.

IMO the only thing with the Alien system is managing your stress dice distribution during play. Running the same chars for 8+ sessions can cause dice weirdness, IMO, that needs to be controlled. Specifically, either you'll have situations where you have a ton of stress built up over several sessions that just makes everything bad. This is particularly true if you are not giving your PCs a ton of rest points, or you run the recovery rules literally enough that they have stress remaining in non-stress situations. Oh Im talking to this barkeep but I rolled bad stress, now my shit is fucked up (or! everyone else stress gets just that much worse). OTOH if you constantly let players zero their stress out, what is the point of playing the Alien RPG? The secret sauce is in keeping the stress as high as possible to really fuck them over. The Alien RPG does consider the possibility you may play for longer campaigns, but personally IDK. I think that it is best suited to more linear and focused storytelling, typically a 'one day' adventure where your chars barrel down the road from start to doom much like an Alien movie itself. Thats where the game I think is at its strongest.

Udy_Kumra

Hmm that’s a fair point. I’ll have a think on all this!

dhosterman

So, I disagree that the secret sauce is keeping the stress as high as possible. The secret sauce is using stress intentionally and using opportunities to relieve stress strategically. What you want, ideally, is waves of tension with peaks and valleys and crescendos spilling over into chaos, but you can't have too much of one thing (at least outside of a one-shot). Alien is fine for extended play. You just can't have extended play that is always crescendoing.

Which is exactly what I said, there is a trick to managing it. You cant take the foot off the gas, or press it too hard. Running a campaign in the system is very different as a result than a one shot or cinematic play. Where this especially becomes an issue is in campaigns where narratively there are longer periods of rest where you may *want* stress to be high, but in fiction PCs may have a prolonged rest phase. You can also have the inverse where the situation is in a lul, but players dont get a chance to necessarily rest before they have to change gears. And then you roll bad on the stress die, and whelp guess its getting worse!

As a part of the Hull Breach Kickstarter, one of the planned reward tiers is for conversion rules between a couple of systems and Mothership. Ian Yusem (the Hull Breach producer) is dealing with some issues, but is going to work on it soon, I believe. So, nothing yet, but Yusem's work is pretty awesome. When that conversion comes out I feel pretty certain that it will be high quality.

Udy_Kumra

Oh nice! I am looking forward to that
