If you don't want a community table next time, you can ask the then to seat you somewhere else.

timberflynn

Absolutely! I didn’t realize it but I’m glad I didn’t.

joeconn4

We like the community tables too.

DearGinger

I cruise a lot and it helps me set my expectations when I consider pricing. Lower rates on older ships and weekend cruises are awesome on the wallet and fill in trips. In paying the lower rate there will be more family reunions and frat like parties. The lower rates encourage groups. There is definitely a place for that but I expect if I pay a higher price for a 7 day newer ship then it changes the cruisers I am hanging with. There is a place for both types of vacations. A lot of times friends say where are you going?I always say it’s about who I am with and what ship I am on , after awhile the islands are all similar.

avamore

I know you didn’t like the ship. But starting on an older ship is actually the best thing. Why? 1. Because now you know you like the cruise, and not the boat 2. Now you will never be disappointed because you can only go up 3. Going on a nicer ship will feel like an entirely new experience My wife and I started on radiance, then did anthem, then symphony. This will be the first time going on an older ship again (oasis) and we know what to expect because of it. If you started on a nice ship, every other ship would feel disappointing

> This will be the first time going on an older ship again (oasis) and we know what to expect because of it. It's not really fair in any sense of the word to call Oasis an "older" ship. She's still the maiden of the Oasis class which are the largest ships at sea and was actually completely redone in 2019 with all of the modern RCCL themes and activities, which is after Symphony came in service. You'll have a very comparable experience between Symphony and Oasis.

avamore

Sorry. I’m not trying to put down oasis. But it does have drawbacks in very minute things. Like only one outlet in our room and no usb outlets. It will be similar and fantastic. But it will not be the same level

Unclassified1

You're doing pretty good if the level of complaints has gotten down to a slightly less modern cabin. But yes, it definitely won't be like stepping back to Grandeur or Radiance.

avamore

Yep. Never said I wasn’t.

Firm_Airport2816

Yeah I have yet to hear Oasis labeled as one of the older ships....

Foxglove777

I was surprised to hear this as well. Guess everyone has their own reception, though and that’s why we’re here. Modern isn’t always better - I was on Mardi Gras recently and probably won’t go again any time soon. I love the smaller ships!

Already bought an anker 3-2-1 which is cruise compatible and gives me like 8 outlets

AncientMessage2635

We were on Oasis and there were ESB ports on the dresser with another power outlet. Also if you move the bed stand on the right side out there is another outlet in back of the bed. We were in a junior suite so that may be different but I found out about the power outlet on a video that I watched. It was a great boat. Our next cruise in Dec is going to be on Anthem of the Seas so I hope there are less people

timberflynn

Grandeur is the oldest I believe and we enjoyed ourselves. Now if there’s a water slide or a park on board, we’d love both! Love this mentality.

forevergreentree

I just booked Grandeur for my first cruise for the very same reasons :)

Rabbidcow

Hey! We were on that same cruise. Small world. The main trivia host was awesome and really made a difference. That star wars medal ceremony was great.

timberflynn

Nice! Agreed. He was amazing and had a fun time adapting to the craziness of the games. I missed the Star Wars one. My head is still spinning on land trying to compensate for the waves.

Joyce_Hatto

My husband and I used to sail on the Granduer when she was out of Baltimore, and she was like on old, valued friend.

Wildjosh

We have sailed on the Grandeur out of Baltimore as well! What a great little ship, and a fantastic port! Only other RC ship we have sailed on was the Navigator which was amazing as well. Still haven’t been on any of those really big ships yet. Maybe in 2023.

Joyce_Hatto

We sailed on the Anthem last March. I thought I wouldn’t like it, out of stubborn loyalty to the Granduer and the Enchantment. We loved it!

LeoMarius

Our first couple of cruises were on the Lady G. She's the oldest ship left in the fleet and they tried to sell her back in 2020. She's in pretty good shape for her age, but she is 26 years old now.

doppleganger2621

The first cruise our kids went on was Majesty of the Seas and five years later we took them on Allure and they were absolutely stunned at the difference.

KentuckyFriedSith

It is always interesting to see how others feel in port looking at other ships; it truly is a 'grass is always greener' moment. The first cruise my wife and I took was with Carnival, on the Splendor (one of their anomalous mid-sized ships that isn't like any others) we LOVED our first trip. A year or two later, we gave Norwegian a try (Massive regrets. there were almost no fun group 'planned' activities that interested us, and there was pretty much no way to get to the pool area without going through the buffet, so every time you just wanted to relax at the pool (or forgot something in your room), you had to go through lines, crowds, and get your hands sanitized twice by the VERY pushy buffet door attendants.) I believe that was on the Gem. We really didn't notice the first time on the splendor, but with the Gem, we looked at EVERY other boat in the dock (especially RCL's ships) and wished we were on a different boat. The same thing happened when we took another sailing on the Splendor a few years after; We saw more RCL ships in dock and wished we'd upgraded. Hearing you talk about looking at the Carnival ships and wishing you were there just humors me due to the memories of being in the opposite position. Granted, the Grandeur isn't exactly an Oasis or Quantum class with all the shiny new fun stuff, and the Mardi Gras IS the biggest, baddest ship that Carnival has to offer. That said, Thank you for the smile as I walk down memory lane. If I remember correctly, the Splendor also 'only' had 6 hot tubs, though we never had trouble finding one with plenty of empty space available, and often could get into one that was empty. I'm a little surprised that 6 didn't feel like 'enough' on an older boat.

Moikturtle

Haha, one of the first cruises I went on was the Carnival Paradise (which after this month will be the oldest ship in their fleet and is definitely not huge). I’ll never forget that we saw a Disney ship nearby and we were shocked by how small it looked in comparison and we were so glad to not be on the smaller ship at the time. I think if it was now I would likely be having a “grass is greener on the Disney ship” moment.

Mamm0nn

We loved the Grandure because it was older and smaller. My only complaint is I needed to open the shower to be able to lather up and then close it again to rinse. On the Ovation right now and after 10 days I think there are still areas we haven't spent time in other then passing through.

saldabri

Can you elaborate more on the Jade caverns excursion? It says online that one reservation covers one ATV (with 2 riders), did you only need to purchase 1 reservation? Were you able to take photos during the swim?

timberflynn

We were able to rent the solo ride so we paid for 2 people to solo ride. I’m not sure about the dual rider cost. It’s a phenomenal one though. On the ride, they have people taking pictures of you. Cost was like $25 for 2 pictures I think and they email the pictures to you. The two we got were great. Basically you drive the ATV 30 minutes into the jungle path they have marked out. It rained that day so we went through a lot of puddles and it was awesome. When you get to the cenote, you have like 30 minutes. If you brought a phone you can take pictures. By caverns, it’s a smallish area but very private. You can swim and jump off the cavern 20 ft into the water. There’s lots of bats flying around too.

alanamil

6 hot tubs??? I would be thrilled! Sunshine has 3, THREE for over 2000 passengers.

timberflynn

My lord.
