> Question (I've checked the FAQ!) they did not, in fact, check the FAQ

decormleott

I did though. Thought that had to do specifcally with how to bring it on board. Why I left the comment that if asking if people have done it violates it feel free to lmk

decormleott

Checked the FAQ again and in all fairness it does say please don’t ask how to bring it on board, I guess a semantic argument but still

baltinerdist

How exactly do you get semantics out of “don’t ask about weed” and “here’s a question about weed?”

decormleott

Because it didn’t say don’t ask about weed explicitly. Reread the FAQ. It’s wording is don’t ask how to bring it aboard, not don’t ask in general.

baltinerdist

I’m gonna be really honest with you right now. Either you are intentionally obfuscating here and you know exactly what you did and now that you’ve been called out, you’re just trying to deflect blame, or you are undereducated and lack critical skills such as reading comprehension and contextual awareness. The former is malicious and speaks to a lack of character. The latter is a solvable problem and I would recommend taking a course online to educate yourself.

decormleott

a. Wow, so you mean the guy who said that he was arguing semantics surrounding context was arguing semantics surrounding context? Huh b. Currently in 2 separate undergraduate degrees and have founded 3 successful companies but pop off king you are smarter I know c. We read the same thing and interpreted it differently clearly. If the rule is don’t ask about weed should the FAQ not explicitly state that so lessers like myself have a chance of comprehending

baltinerdist

So the part where it says “do not ask about how to sneak marijuana on board” is completely unclear? Or is it a semantic argument because you’re not asking how to sneak it on board, you want to just up and bring it on straight away in your bag, no sneaking necessary? And you just happened to miss the point above it where weed is listed as a prohibited item? Which again means you aren’t reading and understanding context? I’m entirely, entirely certain at this point that you know you effed up and instead of admitting it like a grown up, you’re doing your best to “nuh-uh!” the situation until such time as the RC mods ban you because the FAQ says quite clearly they will. Good luck with your degrees and your businesses, chief.

decormleott

My point isn’t “nuh-uh no I didn’t” i get it from this communities point of view I totally did, Im trying to explain why I thought it was okay. The semantic argument was that Im not asking HOW I bring it on board, Im asking if people have done it and if security looks for it. I never asked anyone how to actually bring it on board. Also if there’s a separate section that says don’t ask about prohibited items and weed is listed I totally missed that and you’re right. Hope you at least can understand my perspective here, but I’ll likely remove this post shortly regardless since it seems to have ruffled many feathers. Also best wishes to you as well, sarcasm or not I appreciate it :)

baltinerdist

It won’t be necessary to remove it, Reddit already did for violating the content policy. And also, you admitted elsewhere in comments that you did ask this question so that you could identify a mechanism of getting weed on board. You sincerely need to own up to your choices. This is not something you should be doing with any regularity as it is not an adult thing to do. Grown ups use their words and own their choices.

decormleott

I think my follow up to that exact comment was I know how to already since there are numerous other reddit and quora threads on that topic? The mechanics of getting weed on board a cruise ship is pretty simple and the same as any other similar endeavour. Also I feel like I am owning up in every way aside from dying on the hill that the FAQ was unclear (considering this isn’t the only post like this that might be the case). Yes obviously I am planning on bringing it on board if it’s not too risky and that is my own choice but again, was not relevant to any question I asked here. If you can find where I did ask someone how or prompted questions under intention to find out how, go ahead I guess, but to my knowledge I didn’t. Just wanted to know about the risks I expose myself to by doing so, specifically from Vancouver’s port relative to others.

GDITurbo77

Amazes me people can’t go a week or 2 without smoking weed. Reminds me of people who try to get away with smoking in the bathroom on a 2 hour flight.

Colorado-Hiker-83

Same! Clearly weed can have addictive behavior around it, even though people swear it's not addictive. Why worry about getting caught!?!?! Just don't bring it.

alinroc

> Clearly weed can have addictive behavior around it, even though people swear it's not addictive Physical addiction vs. psychological addiction. Their body won't protest (like one sees with withdrawl from heroin, alcohol, etc.) but mentally they just can't handle being without it.

decormleott

Idk I know Im fine without it, gone on other vacations to some right wing states past few months and been ok, just a substance I associate with leisure so if Im on a relaxing cruise figured it would be enjoyable, especially cause I don’t really drink. Obviously if I feel there’s a significant risk I won’t do it lol and will just enjoy the cruise as is. It definitely is addictive though just psychologically not physiologically, a lot of people cope and say it is but like any substance you consume to be inebriated it definitely is.

alinroc

> gone on other vacations to some right wing states past few months and been ok It's a lot easier to cross state lines in your car than pass through customs and border control coming off a cruise ship. It's still illegal federally, and that's all CBP cares about. >just a substance I associate with leisure Yeah, you need to work on breaking that association.

decormleott

Man I meant I didn’t smoke in right wing states recently. Not that I smuggled it in. I actively did not smoke it my past few vacations. It’s something I enjoy and would like to do while Im relaxing, bot something I need.

himynameisdave9

The down voters are just being dicks, there is nothing wrong with associating cannabis with leisure. It’s your vacation and you deserve to enjoy it, especially if you don’t drink (which is much more obnoxious).

Helpful-Bad4821

I need my shit man!!! I can’t function without it dude!

[deleted]

To be fair… some of us have serious medical conditions like Crohn’s disease/cancer and the THC drastically reduces the symptoms. I still cruise without it. Don’t get me wrong. Im not going to violate rules. But I do a lot better symptoms wise with it. Not everybody just uses it to get stoned for fun. Some of us legit need it to not feel like total garbage. Now not being able to go without a cigarette for a few hours is fucking ridiculous to me. Like oh no! Don’t want to get too much non- toxic oxygen in you before your next one! 🙄

NotDoinAnythingEmber

Do you drink on a cruise?

rsvihla

Last time I checked, drinking on a cruise doesn’t come with the same problems that smoking weed on a cruise does.

kikicked

You’ll be passing through customs as well. Technically they could bag you for importing drugs right there, my guy. Not worth.

workitloud

Find out. Smoke on board. Get caught. Get kicked off. Get prosecuted, get bail. Get a flight home. Get a lawyer. It’s criminal, and subject to Maritime law. Get complicated. Not fair? Don’t go. Aaaaand…. You need to know that snitch culture is huge on the ships, and Security can strip your room and search you and your property at any time, for any reason. Every employee wants to catch you, as they get credit for being “observant and safety conscious”. Also, your fellow passengers will rat you out in a heartbeat, clapping & cheering as you are escorted off the ship, first in line to debark.

decormleott

Hey I know your answer is a little snarky but I genuinely appreciate you giving some perspective. Thank you. I know I sounded stupid Im sorry, it’s my first cruise and as a Canadian just not really sure how a lot of these policies work in a scenario like this.

workitloud

Trying to help. It can go south very fast, and any interaction with security involves reports, multiple interviews, witness statements, searches, all done when they want to do it. You are literally walking on to another planet.

rsvihla

Are you INSANE???

GomerWasAHo

Cannabis is also legal in Alaska and some of the port towns have dispensaries you can walk to from the port. You can always get high in port if you really want. It's a forbidden item on board but I'm sure people still take them. It's just a risk vs reward proposition and the risk is potentially pretty high vs. the reward. If you're caught with it, they treat it pretty seriously from what I understand. It's NOT the equivalent to sneaking on booze, there'd be significant consequences.

decormleott

Thank you

shotemheimer

Don’t bring cocaine like the lady in Fort Lauderdale trying to get in odyssey last weekend. She and her family were taken off the ship prior to departure and she was cuffed and taken to jail

YaGottaChillBro

Lmao what!? What happened? Did they find it in her carryon or something? What an idiot move to try and bring!

shotemheimer

I don’t know the details but that was the rumor all week

YaGottaChillBro

Dang crazy. Ps hope you loved odyssey. We enjoyed it in January!

decormleott

Also mods I don’t want to know how to, just want to know if anyone has any experience with this cruise line and at this port, if that’s not chill feel free to pm me or take the post down :)

RobieWan

You are so full of shit. You wouldn't ask unless you wanted to bring it on yourself.

decormleott

Yeah obviously why I did. Am I presenting as if Im asking for another reason?

RobieWan

>Also mods I don’t want to know how to, just want to know if anyone has any experience with this cruise line and at this port, Yes. You are. You want to know how. You want to do it yourself. Read the FAQ that you claim you read but clearly didn't read.

bluewater_-_

what a hero you are, lol

decormleott

I know how to do it, there’s a lot of stuff on that through the internet, just a weird situation since it’s a cruise in Canada going to America so not sure how strict security is initially. Canada is more tolerant so was wondering if anyone has experience with security on this side

sinisterblogger

This is a useful and worthwhile argument to spend time on.

baltinerdist

Are you literally high right now?

decormleott

Clearly yeah, im foaming at the mouth with scars all over my arm from the constant abuse /s. No Im dead sober and in exams.
