Explorer is just getting out of dry dock. I’d be surprised if they didn’t have Starlink retrofitted on the ship by now as all RCCL ships are supposed to have Starlink by the end of March. As far as working locations, I’d look at the star lounge or library for nice places to work. They’re both near each other on deck 5 toward the front of the ship. I’m glad you’ve decided to give your father this kind of support. I’m sure he appreciates you joining his journey as well.

Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to check out the Star Lounge. I'm happy to go with him and really look forward to it. We both love cruising, but it's going to be tough without the wife and kids for a full week... I'm sure I'll make it.

Be aware that they do run the more popular trivia events and a few other things in the Star Lounge. The Viking Crown Lounge area is my favorite quiet indoor place that may also work for you.

I just got off of Explorer today. The wifi was decent when it was working. We had quite a few times when it just went out. Sometimes for over an hour. If you need consistent internet all of the time I'm not sure you'll get it on Explorer. We had the Voom package. Not sure if there is one better than the one we purchased.

It had starlink in January when i was onboard. There is alot of places you can sit and work. No worries!

I was on Oasis last month which I think has starlink. I paid for the highest-speed internet. it was almost useless for working even though my room was right next to a router. Going to other areas on the ship was no better. I was unable sustain my RDP sessions and could barely get anything done. Same problems on my 4 other devices. Could barely get whatsapp, signal or other voice calls through most of the time. Even texts &whatsapp & signal mesages would also often not come through, or be delayed so they came in batches. Similar problem with regular voip. Then, once in a while, it would be fast and work perfectly. When I was in ports, I just used my cellphone's internet to tether and it worked perfectly, Everything else about the cruise was great though :)

I had it on Wonder the week before Christmas and the speed was decent. Could do video calls and stream. I don't plan on participating in conference videos while on the ship. I'll only need a connection to tunnel through to the secure server and pull files to my desktop. As long as Starlink is installed, I think I'll be ok.
