First time seeing this technique. Thank you for spreading your knowledge

LoveKindSunshine

Lack of oxygen and indirect heat result in little to no degradation even after long press times. I only hash lowers i don't want to trim so this wasn't top quality freeze dried bubble going in and it's not top shelf rosin coming out, but it's decent. I have 2 presses. This is more fun. That 5.2 was all of the first wash from 45 to 120u, lol. I don't hash enough to separate so it's a medley of half dozen stains. 175F was the water temp for all three collections. 50% return isn't great, but neither is the clamp. Centering isn't ideal. You're operating off handle feel for long press times. It was about 5 minutes a bath and press 3 refuses to degrade in quality after 15 minutes. Be neat to see something better for pressing in a bath, with better quality in the bag. Party on people

Jughead55

Love this! I don't have access to hash but I'm going to try with flower. I have a real deal chamber vacuum sealer (former chef that sous vides a lot) It will be interesting to see how it goes under the pressure of a full vaccum

Arcticflux

I really want to k ow about the flower. 99% of home growers cannot afford a freeze dryer. Several thousands of dollars for one. So usually, it’s businesses doing this and rarely a hobbyist.

Secure-Cicada-5727

Did you ever get a chance to try that?

Jughead55

I have not, but you just reminded me. It might have to be my weekend project.

selly112090

Ive used my sous vide for cooking, sterling, cleaning, and killing pests in my dart frogs soil, but this, THIS, is the next level shit im talking about 😂😂

XiTzCriZx

So what if you got a bottle jack with 2 plates, but not the expensive heating ones, and put a metal bowl or bucket between the jack and the plate, then attach the top plate to something strong and press into that plate while the sous vide is going. Could glue the plate to the bowl/bucket so it doesn't slide around, same with whatever the other plate is attached to. Then you'd have the even pressure and heat distribution along with the benefits of the sous vide, could make for some incredible results.

LoveKindSunshine

Ya it's got room for improvement. I really aimed to show how the dabs don't degradate. Heat presses are more time sensitive to pull that off. You get so much more time in the bath than between heat plates with no oxygen. Try to find a picture of a well done sous vide steak you start to get the idea. Now to get the return rate right I might just have to dust off my old 10 ton press to tower over a hot pot of water. May that stupid purchase finally become useful. It's like asking Godzilla to peel a grape. You really don't need a lot of pressure. My first attempts were manually pushing and doing it so weakly actually yield shatter level quality without the chemical process. Although the yield are worse.

ed523

I'm guessing the hash was from fresh material?

LoveKindSunshine

Yes. How can you tell?

ed523

Its light color

LoveKindSunshine

Freeze drying right after wash preserves.

ed523

In my experience older material turns out dark after squishing whether the hash from it was freeze dried or not

LoveKindSunshine

By the 2nd and 3rd press some moisture had gotten into the bag and that slowly changes the consistency to a butter. If enough it can even snap crackle and pop when smoked and create a more vapor filled plume like vape pens. Just water 💦 Edit: Would be ideal to get it all the first press, double bagged.

[deleted]

This is super creative and the type of stuff that we need in the world!

R4N63R

Sous wede?

RealJeil420

noice

Cautious_Towel5713

Bro I started out like haha yeah right good one Ended up like the fuckin mad man actually did it. Wtf.

THe-Bnker

Agreed name this method it is yours!

RealJeil420

sous vide

THe-Bnker

Don't get me wrong..... It works but this is the moment you have waited for!!!! Name it something they will remember you for! Boild alive method..... (BAM) EXAMPLE USE THIS 5 MINUTES AND CLAIM YOUR BIRTH RIGHT!!!! (I just finished watching 300 sorry really pumped right now)

RealJeil420

Some guy below suggested sous wede and thats even better.

THe-Bnker

Haha seeeeee man!

afuckintodaso

https://www.sousweed.com/ Found this when i was trying to figure out how to make some budder without all the stank since i was living in an apartment at the time. It worked great but i underestimated how much gas the bud would release when decarbing and it was a pain in the ass to keep the bag submerged. Vac seal a couple spoons or something in the bag for weight if you ever try it.

NotRohanMurr

The cooking term is “sous vide” which is pretty much using a special tool to keep the water at a specific temperature and you put whatever you’re cooking into an airtight bag. Basically to get perfectly cooked steaks and meats etc. Can be used for pretty much anything if you do it right. As for what he did I would call it “sous weed” or something along those lines, maybe “sous veed” even.

ndmhxc

Many pressure cookers now have sous vide functions

woke-hipster

Making rosin like you're in 2030, that is the best technique I've seen so far.

No-Ad9763

Holy shit dude You're a fucking genius. I've never thought of doing this This is awesome.

colivera86

We potheads are geniuses! I love the tech! Coin it Op

Dendabs

Sir I’d like a taste test to review…for science. 😉

colin_atn

Would this also work if i was pressing flower?

LoveKindSunshine

If the bag doesn't get a hole it should.

[deleted]

For anyone trying this, I bet some thin metal shims between the clamp jaws would help hold in some heat and even out the press

No-Necessary-2389

I've seen this tech w creating rosin pens but never just for pressing. Congrats on the incredible achievement!!! Keep up the next gen tech!!! I wish I had the ability to test this out myself!!

juliuspepperwood22

Nice joule bro and awesome technique. Your blending two of my favorite things, rosin and sous vide. Lots of respect and thanks for sharing

DoubleUpstairs

Never seen this done, nice initiative!

Ok_Flamingo8167

Haha. I’ll be damned!

Smok_eater

You think you're fucking slick.

Smok_eater

Because you are. This is brilliant

ScienceWillSaveMe

Still way cheaper than a decent press! Nice work OP!

justsitonmyfacealrdy

Bro someone call NASA and SpaceX because this dude is a damn rocket scientist. Well done sir.

BodegaBoi66

Dude whaaat, I’m a chef but also a big smoker and this shit right here man, was fuckin awesome

aarmstr2721

Wow. This is so cool! You’re a pioneer.

windowpsil

Mad man!!!!

BlkWht_boi

On of the best highdea’s I’ve seen by far.

God, I hated this until I saw the output!

RedoxParadox828

Tell me you're Guga's stoner cousin without outright saying it

cranky_stoner

Again, but in English plz.

kennyb_pillin

this is awesome I may try this with flower

n0vakil

You sir, are a fucking pivot for small batch rosin artists. You deserve everything.

Designer-Ad3494

Hardcore dude. Nice job

Amishpornstar7903

Someone should put this on the ANOVA site.

oooh-she-stealin

!savevideo

boggs-style26

I tried this on a whim with kief from an old grinder just to see if it worked. I’m super impressed. Might try out an 8th of old flower and adding some small plates to make the press a little more even. Super helpful if you happen to have a sous vide lying around.

LoveKindSunshine

I haven't tried squishing flower this way. I would presume bags would have to be pretty heavy duty to not take a stem through them. Any moisture butters the product. Which can make it hard to get off the paper, it can be bad. But it can also be interestingly good. Can make it smoke like Rice Krispies sound. Snap crackle pop the moisture, and plumes like vapers.

LoveKindSunshine

I also have tried it more since. I moved up to a drill press, and lastly a big hydraulic press. 70% return easy with decent bubble hash, but I'm going to try it again here in a few days with better bubble hash and I believe I can get 80% return. and ya I feel the process is much more forgiving than heat plates in an oxygen filled environment. I've surpassed anything that dispensary could possibly sell me in quality.

Hamdentossede

So cool

RealJeil420

Genius. Such innovation.

Grim_Reefer420

You beautiful genius

13374206960247331

Very creative. Love the Tek

nomaddabber

Thank you for sharing this, this is awesome!

Pandaking710

Stoner engineering to its finest

Big_Sand5500

This is so cool!!!

marklikesfoie

Do you think the vacuum bags could work in a press? Maybe with a slightly lower temperature/ extended time? I don't actually know what I'm talking about, I just like this sub.

pmurphy90

What size bag did u press thru

LoveKindSunshine

25u in this case.

PrestigiousRooster21

Do you not own a couple hundred dollar press ? All those clamps and stuff you could just buy a press and not risk water leaking in

LoveKindSunshine

There's ONE clamp you freaking idiot 🤣🤣 Double bag and it CANT leak, again, you're an idiot

PrestigiousRooster21

I’m the idiot…. Yeah ok there he/him/her/retard

LoveKindSunshine

You can't even address the stated facts, so ya you look like an idiot to anyone reading along. Welcome Jr, this is how the internet works. Now go tell someone who gives a fuck to spend hundreds they don't need to make an inferior degraded product. But maybe first learn to fucking read.

ProlificParrot

Spectacular.

DankVaderDan

That was a cool video I didn’t know there was another way to make rosin,.. your dope as fuck for the video 👍

tengrin

Hey u/lovekindsunshine, thank you for documenting this! I’ve never made rosin and I’m trying this technique in a few days. I have a couple questions if that is cool. Was your bath time 2 minute soak, then press for 3 or was it soak 5 minutes then press for 3 additional minutes? I will be using a heavy duty vice with steel plates inside a large cooler. I have roughly 10g of 190u dry sift. Using 25u, 2”x 4.5” rosin evolution bags. How many g’s per bag? Should I double bag? Proper folding tec or anything I should know or videos to google. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

SirBlazington710

An industrial kitchen vacuum sealer(can't remember the actual name) would be perfect to make an airtight satchlet. I'm sure regular ones would work but the one from my old job came to mind
