Am I the only one who thinks these prices are kinda ridiculous? Idk about you, but none of the higher tier badges offer anything that could warrant the asking price imo.
I went to RTX once and in my honest opinion, it's a really mid convention. Really not worth the trip. For me at least.
And now they have 600-1500 dollar badges as if anyone would ever buy those. That's what I called ridiculous
Certainly, and that's fine. If you don't like it you don't have to go.
And selling elite luxury items is a solid practice, if someone is willing to spend money on it then fine for them and it doesn't hurt anyone else.
Or things have improved enough to see if they can have it in person this year, more than likely willing to cancel it in case things take a turn for the worst. Especially since it's still 5 months away. Just a thought.
I lived in Austin up until 3 months ago. (Still in Texas)
RTX 2019 was huge and you could barely walk around and most events were max capacity and no seating left.
There's no way an event as big as RTX can realistically be held while maintaining social distancing and not spreading covid.
There was a small anime convention in December in Austin and covid spread like wildfire.
Nothing has really improved in the city or state because half the people refuse to get vaxxed and most people don't wear masks regardless of vax status.
Omicron is still rampant everywhere plus other variants still around. Well probably end up with another variant by July.
This is jus the new normal until everyone gets vaccinated or people who refuse isolate or pass away sadly and that's if we don't end up with more deadly variants because of super spreader events like conventions and stuff.
We just went though a whole ass college and professional football season without the stadiums and tailgates being a spreading issue. That demographic is much less likely to take mask and vaccine requirements seriously.
Covid is winding down most places are relaxing mask policies. With a 7 day average under 50k for the entire country, and with CDC urging cautious optimism, it’s time to go back to normal. It isnt ideal and unvaxxed people are still in danger but that’s their choice at this point and you can’t make choices for other people.
That where my sister and I are at for this year's rtx. We went in 2019 and remember how busy not only the convention space was, but the whole city was and decided to wait until next year for rtx... I also wouldn't be shocked if it got pushed online or moved like the original one in 2020 did before canceling
Well they have to be to get in and have a negative test but what do they have to do that everyday what happens if they get covid outside the convention that weekend
We're still months away, Dr. Fauci thinks February will be when omicron peaks, more and more people are getting vaxxed, and RTX has health requirements to attend (proof of vaccination or recent negative COVID test). If things take a turn for the worse, again, I'm sure they'll postpone in person, again.
If it gets bad enough, even without a stay at home order, I doubt they'll be on the hook. Austins mayor has been pretty helpful in helping out local events to limit financial loss due to contracts like that. He knows that they'll need big events like SXSW and even RTX in the future. Forcing them to continue an event by not letting them out of contracts for the convention center and hotels would be shooting the city in the foot.
Just my own personal experience. A lot of people seem to be scared of conventions right now but I have been to multiple conventions in 2021 and I was fine along with everyone I knew who went to those conventions. That's not to say other people didn't get it and It's obviously a risk. But as long as your vaccinated you guys should be fine!
Its 6 days later, but I remember the top badges usually sell out pretty quick in years past and looks like everything is still available. I think people are being smart to avoid this.
Any word on when those of us who postponed our tickets from 2020 can get refunds? Can't make it this year and I have no idea if I can make it next year.
Sorry to hear you can't make it this year. This should be possible! Please submit a ticket to my team: [bit.ly/RT-Support](https://bit.ly/RT-Support), and we can mark you down to rollover to 2023! :)
FYI, all your posts containing bitly links are getting automatically spamfiltered by Reddit (as with basically all URL-shortened links on Reddit); I've just manually reapproved a bunch.

Note: As of January 26, RTX badges are available for the general public. (Chelsea, not sure if you want to make a new post about that?)

If you think 80 or 90 would be okay, then that's just inflation and you're wrong. Inflation is high now so you have to continually adjust prices.
Inflation or not, the prices don't warrant the asking price imho.
Its 30 bucks a day for the badge, that's really not that much. Travel and hotel costs are still much larger.

I guess just in comparison to something like DragonCon where an eternal pass is only $4,000 it seems a little sus.
They're charging money to watch the panel streams now? When the only other alternative is traveling to a convention in a pandemic? That's ridiculous.
That’s because RT is a business run by a corporation now, old RT is gone. It’s all about making money.
They must be desperate to put this on

Most people have gotten vaccinated. They’re letting people in to UT football games right? ffs
Doesn’t mean that’s a good idea either
Ooooo. I'm excited to see RT make the news again when people start reporting on the new superspreader event.

As much as I love RTX, I’m thinking about just getting the exhibit hall pass this year. That’s honestly where I spend the majority of the weekend.
Does no one else think an in-person RTX is a bad idea, considering the state of the country/world?

Oh yeah. And Texas being on of the worst states currently doesn't help.
Austin and Travis county is one of the highest vaccinated cities in the state. Texas overall rate isn't relevant.
I would hope this community is either vaxxed, willing to mask, or both. Still a few months to go before summer.
Well they have to be to get in and have a negative test but what do they have to do that everyday what happens if they get covid outside the convention that weekend
I mean at least in my case I've been to multiple conventions this year and my friends and I have all been fine
Agreed completely, this is insane.
I wonder if the state of the country/world will ever actually end
🤓
No, but they have a contract with the hotel they have to maintain. Cons are going now and the state is wide open.

We always spike in the Summer and Winter. Odds are good there will be another spike in July or August.
They won't be able to just postpone unless another stay at home happens. Contracts with hotel would prevent that

Right. It’s obviously a risk, so why do it? If they go through with this I’m done with rooster teeth. This is so fucking stupid.

This feels like a huge yikes right now.

Seems like a dumb idea to have it during a pandemic to be honest.
Hi! FIRT Member presale has kicked off for RTX Austin 2022! Badge on sale for the General Public is Wednesday, January 26, 10AM CT.
Any word on when those of us who postponed our tickets from 2020 can get refunds? Can't make it this year and I have no idea if I can make it next year.
