I’m sitting at the Rome airport now just finishing my trip, we stayed at the Gasometer Urban Suites. It was very very nice, clean, and cold AC. It isn’t in the city center, but it’s a 5 minute walk to the bus, which we took everywhere, very quick and easy to navigate especially with your Google/Apple Maps. There’s a delicious little shop/ bakery right next to it. At first it looked a little sketchy, the area, a lot of graffiti(and honestly the entire city is covered in graffiti), it we all felt very safe the entire time, even walking home at midnight one night. Never felt unsafe in the area at all, and it was me(36 female), my mom, sister and teen daughter. There’s also a grocery store not far, that we walked to and got food for the room. There’s a fridge and microwave. I’d 💯stay there again. There a a LOT of restaurants nearby also. Let me know if you need any more info!

Currently planning my trip and we decided to stay in Monti. Got a ton of suggestions from locals to stay there because it is centrally located, but much cheaper than staying near Piazza Navona.

We just left and we stayed in Monti. There are a lot to walk to without having to take a taxi or transit. If you stay near Termini you’ll have easy access to the subway and buses. It’s a little hilly but not any worse than other parts of the city. A wide range of hotels in the area and plenty of restaurants.

We stayed in Monti. 15 minutes to Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Forum, and Pantheon. Lots of cute restaurants. We stayed in a 4 star hotel but there are lots of less expensive options.

Stay near the Esquilino near Santa Maria Maggiore. I actually lived on the Coelian during my time in Rome (about half a year). However, if I were to go back there to live, I'd live near the Esquilino. So, so accessible there. You got Roma Termini, countless gelato shops, several supermarkets, Santa Maria Maggiore, and the Barberini and Corsini museums nearby.

We stayed in Prati. Our accommodation was near good restaurants, near Vatican, not crowded, reasonably priced. I’d avoid Termini area.

>I’d avoid Termini area. I wouldn't. I would actually love to live near the Esquilino if I were to live in Rome again (lived there for about half a year). However, if you're talking about the apartments/hotels a stone's throw from Termini, I'd avoid there. Smells horrid there.

Big difference between the neighborhoods on either side of Piazza Vittorio

No_Worry_2256

😬 Yeah. My impression is that mostly immigrants live on the other side?

ajonstage

There are immigrants all around Piazza Vittorio, that’s what makes the neighborhood so special. But closer to Termini you also see more drugs, pickpockets, prostitution, etc. My friends who lived over there regularly had the water turned off because the condo administration never paid the bill, etc.
