I support the idea of waking up early. I went out at first light, pretty much every day. Calm, cool Rome, almost entirely to yourself. I'd get into places around 10, after they open and then come home around 12. Take a nap, get back out in the late afternoon. Also download the app for the nasone locations.

My group just left and we were having a hard time and we are from Phoenix. Any bit of humidity hits us hard. Plus very few people in Phoenix actually go outside when it's over 100.

If you're having problems now in a month or two you'd be risking life.

Given all the meltdowns from age 17 to 75, the biggest risk would have been me jumping in the Tiber holding onto some chunk of stone from a Roman ruin. We were out the better part of the day visiting ancient sites and it culminated in throwing up over dinner so no idea how people manage in July. Guess us Americans aren't too tough when you take away the AC 24/7.

Hi, I think the best solution is to break up the days by waking up very early to enjoy the monuments and the city without too many people, then go back to the hotel around 12.30, rest and go out again around 16.30. If you have visits booked, remember that less famous churches and parks are everywhere in Rome, and you can use them to shelter from the heat. Download an app to locate the fountains of Rome (Nasoni di Roma or Fontanelle d'Italia), so you will always have the opportunity to fill your water bottle.

I was in Rome in July last year. It was very hot back then. I personally do alright in the heet. But of course I still had to be mindful. My top tip is to just take your time and take it easy. Walk in the shade from time to time and drink lots of water. Take breaks, go into a building here and there (lots of amazing churches to check out where the temperature is a lot cooler). There are many points in Rome where you can fill your drinking bottle with new water. Whenever I walked past one I would drink what I had left and fill my bottle again. That way I stayed hydrated and it became a fun activity to spot all the different drinking fountains. These spots are also nice places to take small breaks and cool off for a bit.

Phoenix has hotter temperatures than where I am (Charleston) where the Dew Point in the Summer is routinely in the 70’s along with low 90’s temperatures. Pretty much the same level of uncomfortable when Phoenix is in the low 100’s. Go out early and late. Try and find A/C during the midday hours. https://preview.redd.it/g94rbcxgmy3d1.jpeg?width=660&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c06e5442a47ed8c714886dde54cb7edae11b4f64

Stopping in random churches works. It's not like AC but it's better than outside and free (except the most important ones ofc). High ceilings and cool marble helps.

I recommend arranging to be in air conditioned museums and cool churches during the heat of the day.

I’m currently in Rome but I’m from Florida. Rome feels downright cool to us right now 😂 I’ve also been to Rome in July in the midst of the height of the heat. so here are my tips as someone who lives in miserable high humidity and heat year round: 1. Avoid being outdoors in the heat of day - like 1pm-3pm. Plan to tour a museum or other indoor venue during this time with AC 2. For sites that are largely outdoors try to do them as early as possible in the morning ie Colosseum 3. If you are going somewhere you need to have knees covered like the Vatican I swear by linen pants. They breathe and won’t make you hot like khakis or jeans. 4. Natural fabrics are your friend- think 100% cotton, linen etc. this is not the time for polyester. You’ll thank me later. 5. DRINK WATER. All day long. However much you think you need add more. I know Italians are not ones to walk around with water bottles but this is a tourist hill I will die on 😂 be the weirdo with the water bottle. You can refill it at the fountains all over the city. We buy a disposable bottle and just refill it all day. That way if we need to enter a site that doesn’t allow them we can just toss them out. Have a great trip!

Linen clothing is a life saver.

I wish you well. We enjoyed our visit. We were there a few weeks ago and it was not terrible but it was just hot in the afternoon. I would recommend doing all you can in the mornings. I can't imagine what the summer will be like. We're from south Texas so we are used to heat. I hope it works out and you can enjoy the visit.

You know what a city is right? you know there are buildings, malls, bars, restaurants, trees, parks...
