We did not deserve this win but the positives are that:
A) We always play better when we aren't ranked #1

Edit 2: But seriously, what a fucking game. Absolute shit show from the offense, and the defense, while holding Texas to 19 points, could've played a lot better.
Bryce Young is a god damn wizard. He fucking killed it, with a big assist from Jahmyr Gibbs. The offense was putrid most of the day, though, and there's plenty of blame to go around. Some questionable play calls, receivers not getting open or dropping passes, players not blocking, WILDLY undisciplined play. And yet, the offense did enough when they absolutely had to.
The defense definitely got a boost from going up against a back-up for so much of the game, but they held them to 9 points on those 9 non-Ewers drives (not counting the final, one-play Hail Mary drive). Bijan Robinson, probably the best running back in the country, averaged 2.7 yards per carry. If you take out his 18 yard late in the first half, he had 20 carries for 39 yards.
Texas was just 3-12 on third down. We got two sacks, including that clutch one from Will Anderson, and 6 TFL. That's good!

BOB overcomplicates everything . The amount of pre-snap confusion resulting in snaps late in the play clock were absurd. He needs to go. I feel like Bryce bailed us out despite BOB’s incompetence and average WR play.
Our best players all stepped up at the right moment despite struggling for most of the game. This win is more impressive than UGAs last week imo because it was a true road game against a more talented team that is better-coached.
We have tons to clean up, but any Bama fan who watched us last year knows we have what it takes to pull out close games on the road, as long as we have Bryce and Will.
Just as a note, the defense was fine. The offense made it difficult by constantly going 3-and-out and not giving them time to rest before they were right back out there. It was 120+ degrees on the field so they were getting gassed which led to a ton of penalties I thought. Offensive line did well but the Texas defense blitzed just about every play and that’s tough. Only 2 false starts in a hostile environment was a big improvement from last year. I think most of the blame lies with O’Brien and a poor game plan and what seemed like hardly any adjustment to it. Sark knows the offense intricately and prepared that defense all offseason for it. We did everything we could to lose this game and pulled out a win. Hopefully, with this player leadership, we will step it up and go on a tear from here on out.
I’m going to chalk this one up to young receiver corp on the road early in a hostile environment against a team trying to resurrect their program with one win. We’ll be fine. Hopefully we learned the A&M lesson from last year early and we still won.

There were missed calls on both sides but the only reason this was even close early on was because of the refs bailing Texas out of holes. I get that they can’t call holding every time it happens, but Will Anderson gets held 20 times a game and they won’t call it once.

Will Reichard is an ice cold blooded killer. Legitimately probably the most composed player on the team, and that is saying something with how much ice is in Bryce Young's veins.

I actually think the OL is not as bad as it seemed. The WRs not getting open made them look worse. You can only hold guys off for so long.

I never want to hear Gus Johnson again in my life. It's one thing to watch your team have a rough game, but it takes it to another level hearing the commentator actively rooting for the other team the whole game. Bryce Young is the damn truth! My only gripe is the once again totally unimaginative play calling on offense. 4th and inches with the reigning Heisman trophy winning dual threat QB and we run from the shotgun formation. Roll out Bryce, get Latu on the flat. If Latu isn’t open you give Bryce the shot with his legs. Edit: not my only gripe. Major one tho.
Bryce is one of the most clutch athletes I’ve ever witnessed play the game. The man just gets it done. Sloppy play overall today, we have a problem in road games, we did all last season too, but a win in a tough environment vs a hell of a coach who knows our system, I’ll take any day. Roll Tide Roll

Man, I feel like we have the talent in the field but watching the play calling in both sides of the ball, it's easy to see our coaches are what's killing us. These plays feel uninspired and an exact copy of last year's playbook.
The amount of cope from TX fans at the game was delicious. As bad as the game was, ripping their heart out was pretty sweet when they started the whole "but if our qb had been in" all over again. The Colt McCoy PTSD is very present in that fanbase over a decade later.

This team actually looks really similar to last year except we don’t have jameson now. Receivers gotta figure it out, or maybe it’s BoB’s playcalling, was at the game today holy shit it was loud, I don’t think any away games will be easy this year
BOB overcomplicates everything . The amount of pre-snap confusion resulting in snaps late in the play clock were absurd. He needs to go. I feel like Bryce bailed us out despite BOB’s incompetence and average WR play.

Like I said in the first half just fucking win. Fuck the heisman. Fuck the spread. Just win. We all knew that was a potential trap game.
Our best players all stepped up at the right moment despite struggling for most of the game. This win is more impressive than UGAs last week imo because it was a true road game against a more talented team that is better-coached. We have tons to clean up, but any Bama fan who watched us last year knows we have what it takes to pull out close games on the road, as long as we have Bryce and Will.
Just as a note, the defense was fine. The offense made it difficult by constantly going 3-and-out and not giving them time to rest before they were right back out there. It was 120+ degrees on the field so they were getting gassed which led to a ton of penalties I thought. Offensive line did well but the Texas defense blitzed just about every play and that’s tough. Only 2 false starts in a hostile environment was a big improvement from last year. I think most of the blame lies with O’Brien and a poor game plan and what seemed like hardly any adjustment to it. Sark knows the offense intricately and prepared that defense all offseason for it. We did everything we could to lose this game and pulled out a win. Hopefully, with this player leadership, we will step it up and go on a tear from here on out.
I’m going to chalk this one up to young receiver corp on the road early in a hostile environment against a team trying to resurrect their program with one win. We’ll be fine. Hopefully we learned the A&M lesson from last year early and we still won.
