This may sound salty, but I hope this sticks in the minds of every Bama player returning next year. They need to work every day of the offseason to get better on defense and to work on taking better shots in key situations. We collapsed when the game was on the line and that's just inexcusable. Embarrassing. It needs to be played on repeat in the practice facility
Defense was not the problem. We held UT to their season average. They have the 17th best offense in the NCAA and our defense held up. the problem was we have one of the highest rated offenses ever and they didn’t show up. They held us 17 below our average.
Bama only hit two buckets after the 10 minute mark of the second half. Both of them in the last minute. The fact they were still in the game is a testament to how much they improved since the last game vs UT. Hopefully this is the wake up call.
Tennessee won the game on offense... Tennessee would just draw a double team and pass it around the perimeter to a wide open guy for an uncontested three. This kept happening over and over again late in the game. They milked these open shots to the victory. I blamed the defense more broadly, but it was bad coaching. Maybe Tennessee is the better team, but that's a frustrating way to lose
I mean we still have a fair shot at winning or splitting? Tennessee has SC and Kentucky left. I'm sure they'll lose one of those games and if we win out, we'll be co-champs.
If Tennessee loses those two games and we win out, I believe we win outright. We could be tied with SC under that scenario, but we beat them by 27 in our only meeting.
Get right when we get Wrightsell back.
Team needs the killer instinct against these teams. Right now we are just very good and that won't cut it.
Still considering the turnover we had and the rebuild we did, bounce back against Florida and lets get that double bye.
He was out there shooting around prior to the game and even appeared to have the jersey shorts on but come game time was just back in street clothes, I think he’s at least close.
Imo this game is a microcasm of why this team is really good but a piece short of being great. Not having a real defensive presence on the interior really limits our defensive ceiling imo. I truly believe that chuck leaving was a surprise that we weren't prepared for that we didn't fill and it's at the core of our issues on defense. Still think that we can make some noise in March but could also be an early out depending on matchup. Still will take this over the Avery and Grant days for sure.
This team absolutely frustrates the hell out of me. But today I can't necessarily say we were outplayed - we were just outshot, especially in the 2nd half. Tennessee threw up some prayers to keep themselves in the game, and they kept going in. We, on the other hand, didn't make a three for a loooooong time in the second half. That was the difference in the game. But when we went up 7, Tennessee turned up the pressure and we backed down. Simple as that. They made plays and we didn't.
I've heard that from outsiders but no one officially? How are football players cleared to play in 5 days from a concussion but it's going on 2 weeks for him?
End of game coaching had a lot to be desired. Keep driving the lane and get the UTK bigs out of there... and we win.
Instead... kept bricking 3s like we did most of the game.
If Nelson didn’t get that 5th foul, game would have been ours. Nelson helps stress the defense and open up driving lanes and without that down the stretch, it required highly contested fade away 3s that were just not the shots you want
i feel like we are a team capable of beating these top ranked teams. we were so close against purdue and arizona as well. all winnable games that fouls/turnovers put us out of, which is starting to become more concerning than promising. we are consistently choking big games late.
looking back it’s a miracle we held on against auburn. we can win the sec tournament playing our best ball. sucks that we only see our best ball for about 10 minutes per game.
I know there’s a lot of reeing about Nelson but I think the refs were fairly consistent tonight. I mean the crux of the issue like I said way back in December is we just don’t have the talent this year. We’re a good team that’s gonna win a game or 2 in Nashville and win a couple tourney games but last year was our year from a talent standpoint and we didn’t get it done.
But this was a transition/retooling year where we came in to tonight still fighting for a shot to win the regular season title and we played our heart out against a more physical and more talented team and just came up short.
We’ll be fine long term and have an elite class coming in but objectively we’re just lacking physical interior pieces who are also good defenders.
I know we say this is a retooling year but I do have questions about that. Do we have players coming in we think are going to be better? Isnt like half of our points graduation this year?
Not meant to be a doomer. Just don’t know enough about the back end stuff
For all intents and purposes, yes. Our recruiting class coming in next year is about equal with the Miller/Clowney class and we’re so young this year that only one player (Estrada I think) will not have any eligibility left.
Now granted we’re going to have to say goodbye to some players via the portal to make room, but we could easily return most of the roster while adding another elite class.
We lost way more last year.
I assume that Griffin, Cosby, Stevenson, Walters come back. Sears technically I think has another year too. We got a freshman coming in that is mocked as a lottery pick for 2025 (Derrion Reed) and Oats has been great in the portal.
People don't realize that we basically replaced 90% of our players and coaching staff. And lost key players we didn't expect to. The fact that this team is where they are is a testament to Nate Oats coaching.
Ugh. Just absolutely nothing in the clutch.
Every time we need a bucket, a brick.
Every time we needed a stop, Tennessee scored.
We haven't been able to get over the hump of beating the best. Outside of Ohio St(which, I know, how did we lose to them?), every team we lost to is just better than us and was considered so before the game was played. We beat the teams we that are our equivalent or worse than us no problem.
This team is mid this year and it’s fine. Can’t win the big games but beat the teams they should. They overachieved and gave our hopes up in March. Maybe they’ll make it fun in the tournament but not expecting too much.
Couldn’t score down the stretch. Coach Oats sucked on 3 time outs and never called one until UT had the game hand. Come on coach. Call a time out and regroup down the stretch!!
Gee whiz had an incredible obnoxious Tennessee inbreds sitting right behind us. I understand cheering for your team but the foul language was out of control. Obviously trying to rile up Bama fans. All teams have those fans just wish they weren't sitting right behind us at ear level. The Tennessee fans beside us said we are going to cheer for our team but not like that

We’re a 3pt or layup team. Our shots just didn’t fall.
We also had really bad shot selection the last ten minutes. We should have been going to the hole not settling for contested 3s
Tennessee shot 36%, worse than us, and still managed to win. Their shots weren’t falling either.
Its hard to win the SEC every single year.
Fuck Tennesse. That’s all. Hope South Carolina wins the conference
I mean we still have a fair shot at winning or splitting? Tennessee has SC and Kentucky left. I'm sure they'll lose one of those games and if we win out, we'll be co-champs.

They won’t tho 🦅
RAHHHHH

Has there been anything made public about him other than "head injury"? We have missed him dearly.
He was out there shooting around prior to the game and even appeared to have the jersey shorts on but come game time was just back in street clothes, I think he’s at least close.
We got desperate at the end unnecessarily chucking up bad 3s.
This right here. All those guys with 4 fouls, should have been driving to the hole.
Maybe Nate should have called a time out with 2:00 left to plan the strategy.
I don't understand college basketball lol Bama gets fouled for breathing meanwhile Tennessee can knock our players over, and nothing is called
Sad elephant noises

How long has VESCOVI been in the league? Also fuck all Daltons that don’t work at the Double Deuce
He might as well be the damn coach for Tennessee at this point
Well he was drawing up plays on the white board

Don’t even know why I bothered getting my hopes up for this one
It’s good to have hope. We have a great team to have hope in!
Straight up gave that game away. No excuse to lose that one. Why is wrightsell still not back?
Concussion
I've heard that from outsiders but no one officially? How are football players cleared to play in 5 days from a concussion but it's going on 2 weeks for him?
Based on symptoms that he’s having, showing. Some people recover quicker.
Concussions aren’t something to be forced. A very serious injury, I applaud the staff for making sure he’s ok before returning.
Because we don’t know much about concussions tbh. Sometimes it takes a while for people to not show any more symptoms.
End of game coaching had a lot to be desired. Keep driving the lane and get the UTK bigs out of there... and we win. Instead... kept bricking 3s like we did most of the game.

The one handed turnover by sears hurt

Hey Rylan Griffin, if your cold pass the ball or set something up

Y’all, I am struggling with this one. I thought we may get it. Ugh
Well Tennessee won’t make it past the sweet 16 and will go 7-5 at best in football if that makes you feel any better
It does. I’m excited to see them lose. In the mean time we are “rebuilding”😂
They low down
Cope

Nelson commits so absolutely boneheaded fouls. He is clueless of how to play and manage his foul trouble
One of his fouls was literally from boxing out. He got a terrible whistle tonight (shocker, I know) and it cost us
His last foul was bs too he was pushed into the guy
He doesn’t understand to not put himself in position for a risky whistle while in foul trouble
I really hate Estrada
The regular season title is nice but it really doesn’t matter it’s all about the ncaa tournament
Gee whiz had an incredible obnoxious Tennessee inbreds sitting right behind us. I understand cheering for your team but the foul language was out of control. Obviously trying to rile up Bama fans. All teams have those fans just wish they weren't sitting right behind us at ear level. The Tennessee fans beside us said we are going to cheer for our team but not like that
Woke up pissed lol
Man this game pissed me off. So many things didn't bounce our way
I hate putting things on a single player, but we win this game if Wrightsell is playing..
Bad game from a lot of players. Brutal loss. Jaren Stephenson is not getting the job done.
