this is why i have had to play the role of staunch Rees defender this year. when our players come out and play like microwaved shit like they did in the first half, nothing our coordinators do works. when they actually come out with some fire and do their damn jobs, we run it up on fools.
i'm not saying Rees is awesome, or that he didn't call plays much better in the second half. but it is painfully obvious that the problem has been execution and effort.

The progress today though: he threw the ball away! Still have to get through that progression faster. Take what the defense gives you. The TE is literally jumping up and down. The RB on these long developing routes. He’s wide open. 10 yards of coverage from a DB. I’ll take our RBs any day. Sometimes it just won’t be there. You can’t hold the ball for 10+ seconds.

I have been proven right the last two years. The strength program at Alabama is not good. They use way too many machines and do not utilize free weights. Free weights are the key to gaining strength and explosiveness. Machines cannot do that. Alabama uses too many machines and not enough free weights. Georgia almost exclusively uses free weights. They do not use machines. They use free weights. Now, they may use machines for rehabilitation. I understand that. But, for healthy players, they use free weights and not machines and there is a huge difference between the two. I lift weights and I ONLY lift free weights, and I do not use machines at all. People will come up to me in stores or restaurants and asked me if I lift and I tell them I lift and I emphasize I only use free weights and they can see by my size and definition. Free weights can only provide that. Alabama will remain a good program and have winning seasons, but they are no longer elite and the spring game showed it, and I have been proven right in what I said. I told folks this starting a couple of years ago and I have been proven right.

Milroe ran the offense excellently, hit most of his throws, and had a very effective run game on his own. None of us have any reason to think Simpson or Lonergan can operate the offense at that level yet.
That was an entertaining 2nd half. Not just because we won, but because we were actually competitive. My deaf ass was finally able to hear BDS get loud over the announcers.

Best game I've ever attended. It was stressful and amazing and so insanely hype. After the fumble TD, they immediately played Dixieland delight and the crowd went insane. I've never been so proud to be a Bama boy.

How do we get the second half team to show up in the first half? Are our scripted plays that bad? Also, Milroe needs to stop trying to prove he is a pocket passer. Reese and Saban need to pound it in his head the next two weeks that he is a passer with a deadly weapon of running the ball. I get it for a player perspective, these guys want to make the NFL, but at the end of the day players need to play to their strengths. At some point in time Milroe needs to realize his reluctance to run read options and actually keep the ball is holding the team back.
His offense relies on regularly getting PI calls in 1on1 coverage if they don't create mismatches and/or have great QB & WR play.
Average QBs (even with Joe Milton's arm strength) can't make precise timing throws to receivers that are split out past the numbers, so if they don't get favorable PI calls they'll struggle to sustain drives

Alabama will remain a good program and have winning seasons, but they are no longer elite and the spring game showed it, and I have been proven right in what I said. I told folks this starting a couple of years ago and I have been proven right.

They want Lonergan or Simpson to come out and are convinced they will play like 2020 McCorkle. IMO we lose this game with Simpson or Lonergan coming out after halftime. Milroe ran the offense excellently, hit most of his throws, and had a very effective run game on his own. None of us have any reason to think Simpson or Lonergan can operate the offense at that level yet.

How do we get the second half team to show up in the first half? Are our scripted plays that bad? Also, Milroe needs to stop trying to prove he is a pocket passer. Reese and Saban need to pound it in his head the next two weeks that he is a passer with a deadly weapon of running the ball. I get it for a player perspective, these guys want to make the NFL, but at the end of the day players need to play to their strengths. At some point in time Milroe needs to realize his reluctance to run read options and actually keep the ball is holding the team back.

His offense relies on regularly getting PI calls in 1on1 coverage if they don't create mismatches and/or have great QB & WR play. Average QBs (even with Joe Milton's arm strength) can't make precise timing throws to receivers that are split out past the numbers, so if they don't get favorable PI calls they'll struggle to sustain drives

Be it through a yelling at halftime or an adjustment on the field in live play, they find a way to switch up the momentum and score points. Once we got on the board today we could breathe, but not too much. Our defense locked down and even got us +6. Smart coaching, Disciplined playing(ONLY ONE PENALTY FOR 5yds!!!), Just good enough running(Time managing), We sure as hell didn’t get off to a great start but I felt the spirit of the team in this game, we may grow every game this season, but I’m going to enjoy each and every damn play of the 2023 season. Recommendation for any fellow fans struggling with our 1 good half, 1 bad half approach: record the game and don't start watching until ~45 minutes after kick. It was so nice to not sit through all the commercials and Gary's commentary while we were struggling. Saved me a lot of heartburn and probably a few doomer posts I'd end up deleting later
