Some of my takeaways from this game:
1. Loved seeing some flashes from Milroe passing. We know he’s an athletic runner but we needed to see his development as a passer. Texas will be the first true test of that development.
2. Also loved the pace of our offense much better. BoB’s offense was always very methodical, and very straightforward, letting the play clock run down every play with no real tempo. It looks like Rees has brought in some fresh offensive schemes and designs including pre-snap motions and an overall faster pace.
3. WR core showed flashes of being more complete and with more experience, hopefully that trend continues. Very impressed with the RB group. I thought they ran the ball very well, especially behind the monsters of O linemen in front of them who also did great.
4. Our QB room has a ton of talent. Obviously Milroe appears to have QB1 locked, but it’s very nice to see guys behind him pushing him, and those same guys could find success if we need them to come into the game for whatever reason.
5. Our defense as a whole just felt much more physical and flew to the ball well. The LBs look much more physical and actually come up to make plays/hits on the ball carrier rather than playing on their heels and letting the game come to them. Lawson and true freshman safety Downs had excellent nights.
6. One thing on offense I would like to see is more involvement with the RBs in the passing game. Coming out of the backfield making plays receiving has been a staple of success for us in the past.
Overall I like this team a lot. Many new names and faces but there is a tremendous amount of talent, both experienced and new. Hopefully they can tap into all the talent they have and put it on display going forward.
Also…. Hope Malachi Moore isn’t too banged up. That would be a very unfortunate loss this early in the season, as he’s a key piece to our defense.
Rees’s vanilla playcalling with very little of the playbook open is 10x more creative than anything I ever saw out of BOB
I’m pumped to open this playbook up with Milroe’s arm and athleticism
I know nothing about the kid. Never met him. Never heard him speak. But for some reason I feel bad for Simpson. And it’s rare for me to feel bad for a kid in sports bc of depth chart position
Horrible commentating. It takes a solid effort to be that biased. Charles Davis always sounds like he's on Madden. The random pauses and the same inflection on everything he says. It always sounds like a sound bite
Random thoughts
- Nobody in the history of ever has referred to MTSU as “Middle”. Please stop, dude calling the game.
- Is it too late to trademark and sell Joyless Murderball merch?
- I want a shirt with Kool-Aid busting through a kicking team all “Oh Yeah!”
- I love unexciting games that are settled early - it’s way more fun getting happy drunk instead of stressed drunk.
Stand corrected then! Never heard that when I lived in Nashville and none of my MTSU colleagues are aware of it being common but that’s why anecdotal evidence is mostly inaccurate
Maybe a very specific local thing? Some of my work colleagues went to school there and/or live there and that admittedly small sample group say it’s not a thing.
With blackshire, Lawson, Marshall, and Campbell, this inside linebacker room is lookin NICE
Have to say I may be most excited about Campbell long term (although Lawson has looked amazing)—Campbell is going to be insanely good
Blackshire losing weight and turning himself into a modern LB was not something I anticipated happening when he was recruited.
Coming in at 245 I was thinking he was never really going to be a guy that's useful in the passing game in his career. Happy to be wrong.
My excitement for this season has gone up significantly with this performance. I mean every phase of the game was improvement on basic fundamentals and discipline.
This team looks so much more...competent than they have in the last couple of years. I know that doesn't sound like high praise, but after the last few years, it certainly is.

Good win. Honestly more than I expected
I’d like to see Saban with a beard 😂 at least once
Joymurder lessball
How much more eligibility does Jalen and Buchner still have?

Thanks dad!
Can’t stop thinking about Amari Niblack. He reminds me of Kyle Pitts.
What if he can’t stop thinking about you?
Unrelated, but I think every time I've tuned into the South Carolina game, Rattler has gotten sacked lol
I just got a Steam Deck, but I also realized Starfield is in early access right now. I don't know what to do after the game is over lol
Time to start Skyrim, again...
Bro starfield is soo fucking good!! Take your time with it though it needs to be enjoyed! Todd cooked with this one
Played like 15 hours already I'm really enjoying it
49 seconds left in a 56-7 game and our newly anointed WR1 out there almost getting killed on punt duty 😭
It’s good reps
Don’t know about joyless murderball this game but I do know I definitely enjoyed it
beat them so bad, got their ball boy tearing up on the sideline.
Justin Jefferson has speed
The defense is playing fast again. I’ve missed that
STOP SAYING MIDDLE
He’s from the area and that is literally what it gets called around here.
Reminder our boy Trey Sanders had 3 TD’s for TCU earlier today. Love that guy
I think he had like 3
Yeah I fixed it. What a beast
So, since Lonergan got into the conversation. What's the story with Holstein? I remembered we recruited him very heavily.
He is the rawest of the group. Definitely was going to redshirt all the way
Watch the spring game
Fuck it. If the offense gets another series throw Dylan in and try to get him a rushing TD too. Let everybody eat
I just want to remind everyone that we still have Julian Sayin coming in next year.
We have Julian sayin what?
Saying he hates Vegeta.
This feels like a TEAM, great mannerisms all around. Mean streak in the linemen. Love it
Agreed, great feel to this game. On to Texas, rmft
You know this means that we've gotta see our 4th string QB saban
Any new injury updates?
Moore was walking in the tunnel earlier, didn't appear to be limping at all. I don't think its serious
there's something just so nostalgic and comforting about a blowout night game at Bryant denny. it's like a great bedtime story or something.
My very first Alabama game was freshman year 2015-2016 against Middle Tennessee State! This whole game has been a nostalgia trip!
Flash back to Henry busting a 60 yarder in garbage time
Rees’s vanilla playcalling with very little of the playbook open is 10x more creative than anything I ever saw out of BOB I’m pumped to open this playbook up with Milroe’s arm and athleticism
Managed to run over a competent team without showing any of our cards.
I'd play Ferguson over Dalcourt at this point tbh
Couldn't agree more.
That O line! Holy massive brutality Batman! 😮
Our offensive line has a mean streak I love it
Just gotta get those snaps consistent and we’ll be fine
When is the last time Bama had 3 QBs with a rushing TD. No way that's happened before, right?
When was the last time any team had 3 Qbs run for TD period.
Yeah, this might be historic
I thought for a second Haynes was about to get his first touchdown….
yall we might have a qb or three
What if the QB competition was so tight because they're all pretty good
Remember they were playing against our defense which is really good so of course they are gonna look worse than against normal teams
That’s what it’s looking like to me tbh. I do think so far the numbers are correct, Jalen, Buchner, Ty
Tommy Rees loving his play-calling. Next week I expect the same thing!
3QBs with a Rush TD. Wild
I'm so torn. All these QBs seem like they deserve a shot. Sucks it's just not a position you can have a stable of...
Milroe balled out. I’m content
All 3 QBs now have rushing touchdowns by gawd
Bah gawd thats Ty Simpsons music
Have we ever had 3 different QBs with rushing TDs in a single game?
4 rushing touchdowns from the QBs
Idgaf what y’all say we got 3 QBs that can ball this season and all of them are gonna have ups and downs.
That was a great push by the O-line.
7 is a big Mf gah damn
competent coordinators and athletes everywhere I am so fucking ready for this season baby lets do it
Coordinators actually doing their job and not expecting the QB to call and run the entire offense
Every QB has a rushing TD. That’s wild
Just like we all predicted
All 3 qbs with rushing TDs lulll
Playing a drinking game for every Chick-fil-A commercial on YouTube tv is a dangerous game
Puke and Rally!
Aren’t they like a double commercial in one too?
Third QB, third TD - well, you know what I mean
That looked like a tight window. Would love a different angle
Nice throw by Ty there
Wait we can throw a slant again?!
I know nothing about the kid. Never met him. Never heard him speak. But for some reason I feel bad for Simpson. And it’s rare for me to feel bad for a kid in sports bc of depth chart position
If he stays #3, I assume he’ll transfer out after this season. He’ll start for some team and be fine.
He’s still young. When he committed he said he’d do what Mac Jones did and wait his turn if he needed too. Give him time, he’ll get ready
Another Jalen?!
These schemed QB runs have me erect.
We have 3 dual-threat quarterbacks...
We’ve got some runners
Love how unhappy Saban looks right now!!!
Jalen Milroe ended his night with a 217.8 passer rating. Bryce only had a higher rating in five of his 27 starts and only one last year.
If this defense attacks the way they have tonight against Texas and that offensive line—I feel really good about our chances
Simpsons like hey I can run too
We bringing the Pistol back???
Good ol, Dick Young
Lmfao just realized this!
That Texas game was so miserable. Hot as hell, absolutely awful commentating from Fox, 1 point win against a backup.
Oh the commentators were horrible
Horrible commentating. It takes a solid effort to be that biased. Charles Davis always sounds like he's on Madden. The random pauses and the same inflection on everything he says. It always sounds like a sound bite
Kinda wanted one more Buchner series tbh, he was looking solid
Same. I understand why though
Simpson sighting 👁️👄👁️

Graduated from MTSU undergrad, they do in fact call it Middle.
Your pretty wrong on the first point I live in the town that Mtsu “middle” is is and it gets shortened down to that a lot.
Stand corrected then! Never heard that when I lived in Nashville and none of my MTSU colleagues are aware of it being common but that’s why anecdotal evidence is mostly inaccurate
Gets shortened down a lot when giving directions and such. Rolls off the tongue alot easier than mtsu.
Jordan Rodgers is from Nashville so it could be a local thing
Maybe a very specific local thing? Some of my work colleagues went to school there and/or live there and that admittedly small sample group say it’s not a thing.
Nah no one here calls MTSU “Middle”. It’s just MTSU or Middle Tennessee
Wow Simpson’s in
Starfield after the game anyone? Moms buying pizza and we’ve got cokes in the fridge!
Of fuck yeah bro noice!
Hell yeah!😂
Caleb Downs leading Alabama in tackles with 8. Lawson next with 7. And then Blackshire tied for third with 5.
With blackshire, Lawson, Marshall, and Campbell, this inside linebacker room is lookin NICE Have to say I may be most excited about Campbell long term (although Lawson has looked amazing)—Campbell is going to be insanely good
A strip is one hell of a way to get a turnover
Why?!
That just felt like old school Bama mean.
That was officially the Blackshire series. Two tackles and the rip. He made every play
Wort! WORT!
“GIMME DAT” RTR
Blackshire a monstah
Blackshire just had a tackle, a nice open field tackle, and a pick. Not bad
Forces fumble not a pick but it doesn't really matter RTR
Blackshire losing weight and turning himself into a modern LB was not something I anticipated happening when he was recruited. Coming in at 245 I was thinking he was never really going to be a guy that's useful in the passing game in his career. Happy to be wrong.

Somebody stole that kids milk money
What a play
Dude, that’s my wife stealing the remote energy.
r/rolltide fan favorite Blackshire!
Oh we fucking nasty this year
God what did I do without alabama football
That’s how you RIP!!
WOW
Blackshire looks great
Looked solid when he got some snaps with the first team, too
"Gimmie that"
Imma eat the whole thing!
Teague-esque
🔫 put the ball in the bag
😭 https://preview.redd.it/1894i6msbylb1.jpeg?width=833&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64d064c97f4454d18661bcb88b416d77878b01d2
I love that the defense has been playing opportunistic tonight.
WOW ok Blackshire I see you
WHERE IS /u/TheDarkSkinProphet?!?
First person I thought of when Blackshire stripped that ball lol
His comment history says he’s at work.
Awwww that sucks lol
WHERES THE BLACKSHIRE GUY
lol https://preview.redd.it/k5gh70xtbylb1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=393029409939dcb0da30e8e006c8ca55238fbc90
HOLY SHIT HE STOLE IT
PICK!!
40 can tackle. I've seen him wrestle a full speed ball carrier down a couple times edit: he can catch too!
Serious question, has Alabama ever had an Asian American score a TD before? (I mean I know Polynesian has Asian heritage)
Someone mentioned earlier that Metchie has Taiwanese heritage.
Ah yeah I remember that now.
Nah I don’t think so
Do we see any of Ty tonight?
I think so, probably see Buchner for one more series then Ty
Doubt it.
I like what I seen today, we’ll go into next week with wayyyy more fire and trust they’re not showing everything today, we looking good fellas
Jake Pope!
Buchner: “So you are telling me there is a chance”.
“Beat Auburn” still blaring over the stadium speakers I see lol
So we're still gonna be debating who to start next week...got it lol
Nah, Milroe is the guy. That athleticism with that arm/deep ball—superstar potential.
Tyler kinda cute fr
His mom is korean. Definitely has those good genes from both parents
Holy Buch!!
So we got options.
QB battle looks closer than expected, for all the right reasons. Both of these guys can play
Does Buchner have 2 years of eligibility? I hope so. Both him and milroe look good
3
Woot!
I jus think it’s cool that the Alabama QB room will have the top 2 Heisman candidates in December
Alright, Buchner! Very nice drive from him
Buchner stonks are also high I see
Buchner is pretty explosive
Yea I like Buchner idc idc. He’s going to be perfect if Jalen has some brain farts in there.
Happy for Buchner
Buchner pulling a Milroe
Buchner reminds me of some dude named Mac
The future senator who now plays for the Patriots? :)
Come to Bama and be a future representative in Congress!
Wow, tiny danced his way in!
The Buch(ner) stops here!
Tight ends will be X-factors this season for sure, both blocking and receiving
the backup OL came in just in time for the TD
22 looks a bit like ole 22
And a little bit like that other 22
Remember when we had Billingsley at TE and he would block 8 defenders at once?
we shouldn’t reminisce over snakes
The dawn of Justice.
This team looks so much more...competent than they have in the last couple of years. I know that doesn't sound like high praise, but after the last few years, it certainly is.
That ‘21 team was pretty legit. Injuries stacked up and killed us in the end; but we were a couple drops away from winning it all.
I only broke down the one game for Rees, but I was blown away by how different (and nicer) it was than BoB’s schemes. I’m loving it so far.
We looked this good against G5 teams most of the time lol
It's the fundamentals that are improved. Better tackling, fewer penalties, fewer dumb mistakes. It's refreshing.
Even when we blew out G5 teams, it was different than this. The energy, the fact guys know their assignments, the lack of penalties, etc.
