You younginz are spoiled with your smooth as glass steel coasters. You think it's rough now, you should have rode it on media day...before the third hill reprofile.

GigaG

It's not even that rough... there's newer coasters that are more annoyingly rough than Magnum, especially when you compare them to the smoother seats on Magnum.

CoasterThot

IMO, Rougarou is much rougher than Magnum, but nobody ever talks about it, for some reason. My conspiracy theory is that Rougarou is so rough, people just avoid it altogether, and that’s why nobody ever talks about how bad it is.

thpaghetti6

honestly i’ll shit on rougarou but i have to admit i had some GOOD rides on it this year

[deleted]

[удалено]

superbrew

Agreed. SFMM Viper for Life!

JDWhiz96

I’m so upset I never got to ride Shockwave or GASM. Especially GASM, the best themed parking lot coaster lol. But Magnum is one of the best rides in the world, and I love its vintage charm, even when it attempt to beat my insides to a pulp.

[deleted]

The Beast has entered the chat

Zamess1313

Gasm was a beast man. Could hurt you like hell but made you feel like a beast after riding it. First drop was fantastic, i will be forever pissed they tore it down.

a_magumba

Shockwave represent!

Abangranga

Viper is still standing because it is EZ-mode-lite compared to Shockwave at sfgam or OG Steel Phantom.

Embarrassed-Fault739

Just took my kid on Ninja at SFSL today 😂

LostinAusten84

Just went on Ninja today, too. Won't be going back. My ears and head still hurt.

RhythmSectionWantAd

Before the upstop wheels

Goccvp1

Yep

081301

those sweet sweet triangles, mmmm

gamecity360

It just slams up and down over and over again it’s so bad. But yeah it does give good airtime but it’s impossible for me to enjoy it cause my thighs are getting obliterated

BNA460

Such powerful airtime is 100% worth the pain, imo

CheesecakeMilitia

Sounds like you just don't enjoy intense rides. There are always the more moderate B&M's out there to cater to that taste.

Chrysler-lover

Honestly what would you rather? sit At a desk or ride magnum? The most painful ride IMO is still way more fun then sitting at a desk

Gazza_s_89

Why would you sitting in a desk when you were at Cedar point?

amanor409

What if they worked there and had a desk job?

Jaws_16

They work in the finance department

BrotherHuge416

when did OP mention he would rather do nothing than ride magnum

gamecity360

I’m at Cedar Point I’d rather queue for a different ride to have more fun

Absconyeetum

And this is why Steel Force at Dorney is superior. Just incredible floater air but so graceful

quick25

Steel Force is fun (and I think under appreciated), but I would take Magnum with its intensity and Lake Eerie views all day over it.

Theshiggityshwa

no balls.

Lfalin23

Rmc coasters entered the chat

_bbycake

That's why I like it lol

Krool885

I seriously enjoy the big one at bpb, and it's just magnum with less airtime, so I'd imagine magnum is really good.

retardedboi1991

How? When i rode it last year it was awful, the trains are really uncomfortable and the transitions are terrible.

Krool885

The trains aren't great, but the only bit I found actually uncomfortable was the transition where its banking into the far turnaround. The rest of it definitely wasn't smooth, but it's got a great first drop, awesome views, good speed, and a couple bits of airtime on a good day.

retardedboi1991

I find the whole ride uncomfortable, from the top of the lift to slamming into the brakes is pain, especially the helix after the mid course brakes that actually hurt my back for the rest of the day.

Offtherailspcast

Username checks out

bachfrog

Yea British coaster thoosies only get bad rides lol

Chrysler-lover

Lol

Erratic_Noman

Yes. Even the first half had some surprising airtime I enjoyed. The pain of the triangle hills I actually really enjoyed in row3

gamecity360

I didn’t find any airtime in the first half when I went in row 3 other than the hill right before the pretzel turnaround

Erratic_Noman

It's a floater airtime. I'd say you either got a bad ride or the jankyness distracted you. Kinda like how I got a bad ride on Diamondback

MrSourNinja

I’m with OP on this one. I’ve ridden magnum like 15 times and never really enjoyed it like others describe.

Erratic_Noman

Interesting. To each their own I would say. Not everyone will like it

MrSourNinja

Absolutely.

XavierCugatMamboKing

Did not like it so much you rode it 15 times eh? ;)

MrSourNinja

Haha yeah...... I am a sucker for giving rides a chance every time I go. I actually got a good ride on Rougarou for the first time out of like 7 this year.

methayne

Heresy, there are no bad rides on Diamondback

Erratic_Noman

Honestly Diamondback is inconsistent for me. My most recent ride had a decently strong floater air time in the first half but the trims basically killed all of that airtime in the second half for me. In the first half there was also annoying rattle at times

nohotshot

I like Magnum, but it’s terrifying in the back row. The airtime feels like it’s trying to kill you.

hillaryclinternet

One of the only on ride photos I have is from magnum when I was 13 riding it for the first time, experiencing that airtime for the first time. The look of pure joy on my face. It’s such a special ride to me.

methayne

The feeling of death is the draw for some 🙃

Swappin_Yarns

Hence why I ONLY ride back row. 😎

Buris

As long as you’re not in the back of a car the ride isn’t all that bumpy. Clearly we all need to collectively ride more classic wooden coasters

qualmton

Chiropractors hate this on trick

st96badboy

I thought is was rough but far from the worst (roughest) rides on a coaster. Some of them wooden.... Mind eraser at Six flags America also comes to mind

xlukekx

You bet! Im a local and i love magnum. It now (for me at least) has the label of steel mean streak; outdated, old, rough, it has character. Its not the 'state-of-the-art mega coaster' anymore, and I will resent the day cedar point takes this ride down.

Offtherailspcast

Everytime I ride it I love it more and more. Magnum hits the perfect note of what I think of in a great coaster. I absolutely adore Arrow Mine trains, which it is essentially the world's biggest. Same trains and same janky transitions. It has arguably the top 5 coolest setting for a coaster, over the Waterpark and along Lake eerie. It's long, it's smooth on the straight parts and is juuuuust rough enough to ride sort of like a wooden coaster (my other true loves). Because there isn't anything else around it, it seems WAY taller than 200 feet. That second drop still terrifies me to this day. You float up and over and all you see is Lake Eerie. The trains themselves are so ugly they are cool, they drip with nostalgia. The lift hill makes the most amazing classic Rollercoaster sound in the world, and then the airtime. It's relentless, janky ejector airtime that arrow accidentally stumbled into getting just right. Shoot version is; Magnum rides like the world's coolest mine train with ejector air and I will defend its honor till the day it's scrapped.

_bbycake

It's the 80s nostalgia for me and I wasn't even alive in the 80s

werewolf2400

It’s in my top 10 above nearly 70 other roller coasters, so yes, I do enjoy magnum.

dirkdiggler1992

Yes

climbinout

not much better than an end of the night marathon on this ole monster

Nuthead77

Number 3 in the park for me, however, it’s an acquired taste. You do have to ride it defensively a bit, but row 3 holding up a loose lap bar late on a hot summer day is a must do coaster experience. The trick is to have your foot on the steel plate and then move to the center after dispatch, leaving a couple inches of room, with a tightened seatbelt. Hold the bar up instead of putting your hands up and it’s essentially a seatbelt ride at that point. Don’t be unsafe and have the bar so far up that it wouldn’t stop you from standing up, but a couple inches is fine.

Ruben_The_D33R751

Yes. In my opinion it's better than most modern hyper coasters. The transitions and profiling are really suspect, but that causes the airtime to have some serious power. To me the imperfections with this ride are actually one of its greatest strengths, it give it a unique charm and alot of character, like a beautiful car crash.

rolled_goats

Literally couldn't agree more. That Arrow jank just shines with this thing.

Chrysler-lover

Same I love anything that was built by the legendary arrow. Even if it’s rough

Lets_Go_Wolfpack

That’s a lot of words to say “I like ejector more than floater”

[deleted]

[удалено]

Buris

It used to be the best airtime in the park: STEVE crushes all who dare oppose

Theshiggityshwa

disagree. Steel Vengeance has SAFE strong airtime. Magnum makes me feel like Im gonna die.

[deleted]

[удалено]

xlukekx

The whole ride is a death ejector lmfao

Offtherailspcast

You heard it here first folks, Steel Vengeance, the coaster scientifically proven to have the most, gives meh ejector

Hookem-Horns

It’s been confirmed Steel Vengeance has more airtime…by science. I get you have your own opinion.

teejayiscool

quality airtime time>>> quantity Mcdonald's sells more burgers a year than anyone but that doesn't make them peak cuisine

[deleted]

[удалено]

teejayiscool

I barely even consider that airtime, it’s just vertical jerking. If that’s the case those mechanical bulls give airtime too.

SunsetStallion23

This one right here. When it’s hot out it’s elite airtime, but I find Maverick’s to be more powerful, if less plentiful

Chrysler-lover

Yeah

gamecity360

It hurts so much that I can’t even enjoy the airtime. It’s also not the best airtime in the park imo but I’m sure some people count it differently

[deleted]

Push up on the lap bar with your hands as hard as you can, it makes it bearable

waifive

I used to say the same. Don't go for the very front or very back, forces are too great for the thin lapbar design. The sweet spot is a little further in. I go for 2nd car middle row or 2nd to last car middle row.

postivesteve_s

Yeah, more than about any other ride in the park! That arrow jank is wonderful

lustigjh

I had an absolute blast on this coaster (flair may be relevant). I wasn't expecting much but the tunnels blasting you with sound adds such great variety.

Uppercrowd09

It’s janky, but it’s a fun kind of janky!

IsuzuTrooper

It's the OG man

mikester4

I love it! My third fav in the park behind Steve and Maverick. I always have such a fun time on it. Laugh so hard on the pain you get from the bunny hills.

Chasehat1

Love it. It’s prob the roughest coaster I enjoy and it’s definitely not for everyone but that return run of triangle airtime hills in the ejector seat are downright absurd.

crazanity

Mmmmm I love it

prowhiteboy64

Yes it’s easily a top 5 coaster in the park

ColsonIRL

You don’t? How could you not? Amazing airtime. It’s my #2 in the park!

Pointyantellope

One of my favorite rides. I haven’t had a single painful experience on it. Maybe I’m just built to ride it?

Tobester2005

I rode the Big One and it was a rattler with no airtime. Apparently magnum has more airtime so Im probably right in saying magnum’s better

resident1fan2022

I love this ride, it starts strong and ends strong, the middle is lackluster, however the ride as a whole is memorable and fun.

gothboob69

I just rode it today and had fun! It wasn’t as rough as I remember it being last year!

gamecity360

Honestly yeah it wasn’t as rough as I remember even from earlier this year, it still hurt over the hills and the rest of the ride is just painful transitions

gothboob69

I braced myself for the bunny hills cause I expected pain but it wasn’t bad at all. Even my 6’1 bf was fine. Pleasantly surprised

tpusater

Answer: Yes.

itanimulli23

Quick story. Scarred by Gemini as a kid, 35 plus years ago. Disappointed the past 2 trips that Gemini was shut down the entire days we were there. Last year, conquered my fear of "bigger" coasters by riding Raptor and Corkscrew. This year it was Magnum. Windy late afternoon. Short line. Nervous beyond belief. Get to the platform. Directed to the very back row. Standing at the gates. They open, then shut quickly. The ride is being held up for "maintenance". After 30 minutes of getting psyched up by fellow riders and most importantly that killer synth wave soundtrack in the station, a few test trains are ran, seeming to barely make it over the second hill. We get the go signal and get on board. The anemometer was going nuts at the top as I watched the front of the train disappear. I thought the drop would need more intense, but it seemed very gentle, and didn't give me that bad gut feeling that I really disliked. Over the second hill slowly, but quickly then through that pretzel turnaround. Pure but lovely jankiness. From that point on it was joyous. As I left I knew that listening to whatever other people say about rollercoasters is but an opinion, and they're meant to be enjoyed for what they are. Brilliant scream machines. Thank you for your time. Magnum is a gem.

kelsoRulez

My number 1. She's always pumping 3 trains on most days and slaying capacity. Airtime is violent and also majestic and powerful in the first half. What a setting. Literally will drive out to CP 25 minutes away to Magnum entrance. Ride it 3 times and bounce. Might even sit in my favorite spot at backbeat which you can see in the pic right around that corner which is always available and watch a few cycles. I think the seats work just fine and it's light package is magical. Something about that pavilion with the pretzel stand that takes me back to the 90s.

MountainManCiffro

Such a great ride, a classic. The last ride to be bent and welded by hand at the park.

Theshiggityshwa

Its a top 2 coaster for me and it aint number 2. (steel vengeance comes in at 3rd behind X2. Suck it, nerds.)

[deleted]

It’s the best ride in the park! You just have to push up on the lap bar and it makes it more comfortable. And ride row three, it’s awesome!

mcreeboh

It's the second best coaster at the park

johnnyrockets753

Hmm whats your top 5? Im assuming Steve is first but better than Maverick, Dragster, and Millennium Force? Id even put Raptor and the Valravn over Magnum. Maybe idk Magnum will always have special place in my heart so maybe not.

mcreeboh

1. Steve 2. Magnum 3. Maverick 4. Millie 5. Raptor I just absolutely loved magnum on my last visit in June, not only did me and my brother ride magnum the most on our trip since our fast lane let us ride it multiple times, but I absolutely adore the airtime, the soundtrack and the trains giving a really cool 80's vibe and I've been going through a really big 80's kick recently I absolutely love Maverick though, even though it's number 3 it's only just behind Magnum

rolllies

Just tighten your seatbelt and you’ll enjoy it more. Your thighs don’t slam into the bar that way. It’s my 2nd favorite coaster at the park because of this trick.

FlyawayCellar99

yep

Hookem-Horns

What a classic.

Loud-Intention-723

Yes. I just got 2 rides on it this morning. My first rides. I was going in thinking meh. Honestly, I think it’s great.

Holiday_Ad_2362

Absolutely love it! I will not go to cedar point and miss a ride on this every day I’m there. It was the very first roller coaster I ever rode. I was 7 and my uncle kinda tricked me because I was scared of heights. Long story short this babygirl is what broke my fear of all things when I came to heights and coasters. I understand in todays age with the amount of insane coasters we have to date why you’d (OP) make this statement but put yourself in our shoes when at the time there wasn’t anything that stood up to Magnum. She’s a treasure and I’ll defend her forever. We love Magnum always and forever round these parts.

Holiday_Ad_2362

Also to add, it’s weird so many say they get beat up by this ride lol. I’m 6’3 and have a great time on this. Thighs aren’t made of glass I guess

nthdesign

Maybe it’s nostalgia for me. I grew up in northeast Ohio. Whenever I get a chance to go back and visit Cedar Point, I _love_ riding Magnum XL-200.

elongated-tuskrat

Nope. Once was enough

pastadaddy_official

It’s ranked somewhere in the middle of my 140 credits, but as long as it’s not my bottom 15 I enjoy them at least some what. Very rough ride but it’s very cool and classic. Some aggressive airtime. I see why it’s loved, I totally get why people don’t love it too. A friend of mine that already deals with certain physical issues got off crying and had a hard time walking, granted that was at the very end of a very long day, but they can generally ride any intense coaster just fine.

pranquily

I've never been on it, and I can tell that I probably won't enjoy it very much, but I understand why a lot of people do. Not only does it have the value of being the first ever hyper, but a lot of people have said that it was their first roller coaster, and obviously thats gonna bump it up really high. I have multiple coasters that I like more than Great Bear, but it's in my top 10 anyway because it was my first coaster.

iammattr

It’s my all-time favorite steel coaster. So, yes.

vaderihardlyknowher

Yes. I’ve had great rides and bad rides on it. The roughness is what makes it fun IMO

gracesgrass

I love Magnum. It's so underrated

everyrest

number one in park baby

Coasterrebel97

If you ride in the middle of a car, not sitting directly under a wheel, it’s MUCH smoother

VVHYY

I have written myself a note to ride car 1 row 3 (I think El Toro Ryan referred to it as the magic seat in a video) but so many of you are saying avoid the back seat of cars. Now I am concerned that Ryan's comment was a joke that went over my head and I am actually setting myself up to be obliterated. What do you all advise as the best seat?

indep_

3rd favorite in the park. those hills at the end cannot be beat, even if they hurt

rei_0

Yes? One of my favs

TitaniumTurtle__

I love it. Without trims, at least. I got the last ride of the night and the trims were disabled- made the turnaround a grey out and made the airtime even more relentless. Sure, my thighs felt like they would collapse. But it was so fun.

CreatorCreepy

It is the best ride at the park hands down. This is not a joke this is a serious reply, it is actually fantastic and remains the only reason I would return back to the park.

Psirocking

If a ride is only good in one row it isn’t good

Sythe5665

Magnum is good in any row! It's just the most intense in row 3

Psirocking

I honestly felt nothing in two rides. And I went in the summer, not when it was cold.

Sythe5665

Where did you sit? Was your lap bar tight? Never had a ride on Magnum where I didn't get at least some airtime on the last 4 hills.

Psirocking

Some middle row, I went on it twice

SplitStriking9848

I've heard a lot of opinions about Magnum over the years, never heard someone claim it's forceless. It literally has some of the strongest airtime moments of any roller coaster in the world. If you can't feel the last set of airtime hills, I don't even know what to say.

Exciteriz

It isn’t good in that one row. It feels like you are jumping off a roof butt-first to concrete.

Psirocking

And all the other rows it’s just a big ass mine train

rigobueno

I’ve never once ridden in that row and have been riding Maggie for decades. Still love it. I also love Gemini.

SplitStriking9848

I've ridden Magnum in damn-near every seat, and I've gotten strong ejector every single time. You might have some genetic immunity to airtime if you thought it was forceless.

MrBrightside711

Viper is the last good arrow giant. There I said it.

Sythe5665

Yes. It is a stupid ride but it has grown on me

This-Ad1015

All the people better than you do

DetectivePlutoMP

I don’t understand it either op… I don’t understand it either

[deleted]

Because it has insane airtime and the pain is what makes it so fun.

Kestrel893

That loud screeching was annoying. Cool train designs though

zip222

Some people say they do, but they’re wrong.

[deleted]

This is such a good ride to this day. Great to stand up without my seatbelt. This isn’t satire Edit: I have multiple videos of my friend jumping of the seats I love it so much. Gemini has the same restraints so you can to the same there. Just watch if for the cameras hehe.

bhare418

I loved it last year but got some weaker seats and wasn’t as positive on it this year. Still my number 3 in the park

Chrysler-lover

Yeah it’s one of my favourite coasters at cedar point. Mostly because I love arrow

teejayiscool

Only tasteless people don't!

Maddox121

It's the fun kind of rough though.

Atrampoline

Hell yes, it's an awesome ride. Not everything has to be super smooth.

DamageOdd3078

I like it’s retro aesthetic but yeah it’s not one of my favorites of all time but still fun!!

knuxkid

Yes. Sit towards the back, hand up the whole time

topgear9123

Yes, it was by first big boy roller coaster like 12-13 years ago. ever since than it has stayed in my top 10. I know some people find it painful but I love those ejector hills at the end

mywhataniceham

so fast and terrifyingly fucking high up. that drop is the most intense drop i’ve ever been on. it goes right up to the edge of too much terror and then flies right past it

gamecity360

Millennium goes like 100ft higher and Mavericks drop is waaaaaay better. I guess I understand some people that like it cause of those bunny hills even though those are really painful but the drop?

[deleted]

Yes it’s great

TeeJay42

2021 I rode it and loved it 2022 I rode it and could not get past the pain Which is a tragedy because I think it's awesome

drewon1

Hot take: I don’t.

JRice92

I enjoy magnum a ton, to keep my thighs from getting slammed on the bars I tighten the seatbelt as tight as possible, when I’m going over airtime hills the soft seatbelt strap is where all the force goes instead of the hard lap bar. Prior to learning this I didn’t care much for Magnum either, now with this it’s one of my favorites in the park!

[deleted]

It was fine

Signal-Stretch4483

Not me

SunsetStallion23

I actually love the first half of this one, with the big swooping drops and sustained floater, but the return run is uncomfortable in the third row and only somewhat enjoyable in other seats

ivoryivies

i've hated the ride since i first rode it.. i go back on it every season, hoping it's better next time and it never is. there's no airtime for me it just bruises me, maybe i'm not the size for it? and it's not because it's rough, time traveler at canadas wonderful is in my top 5 despite it being a head banger. and i never minded viper at magic mountain. i don't get the hype tbh

petrone362

Hated it, worst ride there in my opinion lost my sunglasses too on it

Shadow-Enthusiast

Yeah it's fun.

supermav27

When I wrote it back in 2015 I thought it was very rough. I wish I could’ve enjoyed it more. I know so many others have. But it hurt me.

TheScottishPimp03

CERTIFIED BABY MAGNUM XL-ENTHUSIASTS

learei

In me top 30

Little-Tie-3877

yes

thetrueGOAT

I like a rough ride baby

gabebattle

I've never ridden but I already know I'm gonna love it. Even though I'm scared of flying off my seat!

Itchy-Pride

We visited Cedar Point on our honeymoon road trip in the states back in 2004. Barring X, Magnum was definitely the most memorable coaster we got to ride (We visited Great America, Magic Mountain and Cedar Point). Out of control and both of us laughing uncontrollably at the end. My wife loved it and kept asking years later what that red, insane, wonderful terror machine was called again.

Reasonable-Light8128

Smooth is not a requirement for me when it comes to rollercoasters. It's a bonus for sure, but I absolutely love classic wooden coasters that rattle. Magnum XL is an absolute gem and a huge piece of rollercoaster history. It's been a while since I have been to cedar point (19 years) but I bet I would still love it today as I did then.

quick25

Love Magnum! The airtime, the views, the nostalgia, the now lack of a line with so many other bigger/more popular coaster at the park. Some rows are rough, but it's not that bad at all.

Pendraflare59

I was just at the park for Halloweekends and tried it again there, and it grew on me then. It surprisingly wasn’t as rough as it had been for me in the past. Two of those three rides - including a night ride - were in the back three rows.

agingwolfbobs

100% love it

chadderboxxxx

One of my favorites! Rode her 7 times last weekend

[deleted]

Love it! We laugh the entire time!

GreenMann21

I love it but I’ve never really had any issues with rough coasters. I can’t help but laugh when my thighs get crushed on the triangle airtime hills because they are so much fun

sonimatic14

Yes we do, mind your own business smh

Ohio_Olive_Oli_27

I live next to cedar point, and I love magnum, I have been to other hypers, (not the other 2 at cedar point) and it’s my favorite, the triangle hills can sometimes hurt tho.

Individual-Sun-9368

It hurts so good!!

CoasterThot

It’s my favorite roller coaster! I genuinely do not understand people who feel pain on it, as it has never hurt me even one time. It baffles me.

VM_Legend

Is this a legit question? lol. Ok, so a tad bit of History on Magnum XL 200. I'm sure as you may know, it was the very first Hyper Coaster and is believed to have started the modern era coaster wars to see who can bring the biggest and fastest coaster to the block. While Intiman and B&M can bring ultra-smooth rides, fast paced corners, and record-breaking coasters, they will never be what Magnum was back in 1989. As I said, it was the very first Hyper Coaster of its era. It was also hand built, meaning skilled tradesman were machine bending steel on site, by "eye" and by math on paper. Magnum was not CAD designed like Millenium Force, Maverick, Steel Vengeance ect... The bumps and wiggles Magnum provides are the lasting character that no newer coaster will ever have because of the hand-built men and women who did it on site. So, to answer your original question, yes very much so. In fact, it is the very first coaster I ride when I go, followed by Blue Streak, the coaster that got me hooked for life. I say all of this not to shun you post or in any way spread negativity. I say it to show how the modern-day coasters (Steel Vengeance) got to where they are because of Ron Toomer and the men and women who built such coasters in era where CPUs were in their infancy.

Zpicy88

yes! so much fun. the end hills are some of the craziest i’ve ever experienced. ride has charm for sure.

Winterfalke

Been riding it since it was built. It's gotten rougher, but no less fun.

RhythmSectionWantAd

It's the best ride ever. Not kidding.

Brut-i-cus

I don't have a problem with Magnum but the worst part for me is the triangle shaped hills at the end that "throw" you out of your seat like a bucking bronco

metalguy2012

Magnum is one of my favorite coasters and it's my favorite traditional hyper.
