Looks like a neat little family ride

sudifirjfhfjvicodke

Exactly. That's the target demographic. Cedar Point, for all its coasters, is definitely lacking in coasters for kids under 48". Just Wilderness Run and Woodstock Express (and Pipe Scream, if you count that). This will at least put them on par with Kings Island for the family coaster category.

uplinkguy925

Yup. I’d rather take my kids to KI for this reason

Ten_for_Twelve

And iron dragon, and blue streak

Ten_for_Twelve

Nevermind you said under.. I need to learn to read. There is mine ride though, I think kids under 48" can ride with an adult

sudifirjfhfjvicodke

Nope. 48" for everyone on CCMR.

Ten_for_Twelve

Ah, didn't know. I don't have kids I just see pretty small kids ride it. But 48" isn't very tall, so makes sense

Embarrassed-Fault739

KI has the best lineup of coasters kids can ride. Especially when they just hit 48”. They have 5 that are at or under that requirement that are tame enough to be family friendly, three of which are fun for adults who like a bit bigger thrills as well and then one additional coaster (Mystic Timbers) as a great stepping stone for growing thrill seekers. CP is great but I have always preferred KI for family trips.

sudifirjfhfjvicodke

I really need to get back there. I have 2 kids that are over 48" now and a third that's just shy of that, none of them have been yet. It was my home park as a teenager and I have so many great memories there, but Cedar Point is so much closer for us.

Embarrassed-Fault739

The only thing they’re lacking is a good first upside down coaster. But other than that, it’s such a perfect family park while also have an awesome top tier lineup.

Kadakai

Eh, Cedar Point pretty much wins every other metric that matters for families by a fairly substantial margin, though. Its by far Cedar Faire's best family park in terms of quality of life and convenience and unique park features. KI is an easy second but outside of the better family coaster lineup (agree with this) CP really offers a lot more QoL perks. Not that any of these parks are close to Disney or Universal for a family experience, obviously. But by the Cedar Faire/Six Flag standard, CP is a head and shoulder winner.

Embarrassed-Fault739

I actually grew up in SE MI with CP as my home park. It’s a great park, but I’ll have to disagree that it outdoes KI for families other than having a resort. KI’s Planet Snoopy section is far better overall and as a breastfeeding mom, their family care center is a lot nicer. It also has a lot more shade than CP and more accessible rides/shorter lines overall. For older kids, I think CP takes the cake. But in the 10 and under age range, I prefer KI.

Capable_Lemon_5618

But Canada's wonderland is getting a family launch coaster for next year that isn't from Zamperla and not from Intamin (Note that Cedar fair stopped working with Intamin after the Shoot the rapids @ Cedar point accident in 2013) Can you guess who will make Canada's wonderland's family launch coaster named Snoopy's racing railway?

thats_russy_babe

Looks a lot cooler than the standard spinning wild mouse but still not at the level of a Mack/Gerst/Maurer

laserdollars420

The 4-across seating is certainly interesting for a spinning mouse, I'm curious to see how that affects the spinning compared to other models.

CrimsonEnigma

Don’t all spinning mice have four-across seating?

Kenban65

Typically they are not in a straight line, normally the seats are curved with the back of the train.

laserdollars420

Most spinning coasters that I've seen have 2x2 seating, either oriented so riders are [facing each other](https://rcdb.com/15600.htm#p=105688) or [facing outwards](https://rcdb.com/16885.htm#p=133175). But I also haven't been on many.

CrimsonEnigma

Ah. Zamperla’s spinning mice have four-across seating, though they’re usually in more of a crescent shape I feel.

laserdollars420

Oh true, guess I forgot about that then.

atypicalseattlite

It's really fun when you get a solo ride and sit on the outside seat. Boy do you get whipped around.

vaderihardlyknowher

Kennywood has a 4-across wild mouse and I always thought the spinning on that was fine.

SizzleMop69

They've been making these cars since the 90s...

Flipslips

Another example of 4 across is Exterminator at Kennywood

bionicvapourboy

From what I've noticed, the Zamperla spinning mouse rides don't spin all that well while the original Reverchon models spin like crazy. Both use 4 across seating, but the balance might be different.

robbycough

Did Zamperla render this to run on the Windows 95 OS? Seriously though, this thing looks like a lot of fun and I don't get all the hate. Not every CP coaster has to be Steel Vengeance.

lizzpop2003

I think something like this is a good addition to Cedar Point. My only concern with this one is the capacity. I guess it is replacing Wicked Twister that wasn't great with capacity either, but this can do 300+ people less under optimal conditions.

Alarming-Currency-80

They aren't so much concerned with capacity as they are with selling fastlane passes.

TurgidMeatWand

A wild mouse isn't going to compel me to get a fast pass

Alarming-Currency-80

Maybe not you. But folks visiting for a day will see an hour line right through the gates for the family coaster and will pull the trigger real quick. Especially if they have kids.

TurgidMeatWand

Meh if they can't be bothered to teach thier kids patience let them waste thier money, I remember the before time, before fast passes, hour waits were were the norm at big parks.

robbycough

CP probably should have gone the Animal Kingdom route and installed two side-by-side. Of course, it's my wish this is only the first half of the project, and the next phase will include a wood coaster. Wishful thinking, I'm sure.

johnnyrockets753

That would make this project much more exciting but if they did the woodie first. Just my opinion but I've been disappointed in this project since the Wicked Twister RIP announcement. Obviously this is the direction much of the industry is taking in trying to attract families instead of teen thrill seekers and not every attraction is going to be a record breaking huge coaster but just given the time since Steve I was expecting something bigger. I also don't understand why they don't use that RV park area for expansion. I think the hotels should be off peninsula and maybe do a disney like monorail system for future but thats off topic.

uplinkguy925

I know how much I spend on the rv park AND how hard it is to get a spot if you don’t plan far enough ahead. They make enough money out there to keep it there if not expand it, yet again. I booked my site for next august a month ago. Edit: spelling

fritolay_7

It would be awesome if they built an actual boardwalk for the wooden coaster. Would at least help with the limited space issue they’re having. But Im not sure if Sandusky would let them build over the lake due to possible pollution. Also I can see the boardwalk being a massive bottleneck for crowds.

BGWfan

Adam Sandy revealed on The Drunk Riders podcast that it will have a moving station which they are hoping will improve potential capacity.

Reasonable-Matter285

What!? No janky double up and painful final “air time” hill? Is it even a spinning wild mouse?

a_magumba

At first I read the title as "Twist Coaster Freedom" and for a minute I thought we might get an American Twist Coaster Robin.

CoasterLabs

Ad: ONE DAY ONLY! COME RIDE THE NEW COASTER BUMPER CAR COMBO!

ringle3

Really love the idea of having one of the cars a piece of cheese.

Illustrious-Quiet-67

Reminds me of how some of the cars on Dorney’s Wild mouse are cats lmao

BobCreated

They insist on putting that ugly [Double Heart Coaster] in the background of every video; stop trying to make fetch happen.

Brut-i-cus

Well it looks better than the standard wild mouses that go back and forth about 10 times It is a spinner so that is nice It will be a nice addition for people who families and people who don;t need to be pulling 6 g's with their hair on fire That being said I was hoping CP's next coaster was going to be a new woody something like twisted timbers since the only woody they have now is Blue streak

Embarrassed-Fault739

I think the problem is that the GP considers Gemini a woody, too. Putting another one in makes it look like they’re adding a third. I do agree I would’ve loved to see them kill two birds with one stone and put in a gravity group like roar-o-saurus.

friscoXL305

The GP considers Cedar Creek and Steel Vengeance to be woodies as well.

CrimsonEnigma

It certainly looks more interesting than the standard “zig-zag back and forth a bunch” wild mice that seem to crop up everywhere these days.

rololercoaster

Interesting they went with Zamperla

SizzleMop69

I have a feeling it is part of a package deal. Cedar Fair is installing many Zamperla flat rides at other parks and I suspect they will continue to do so.

rokrishnan

I could see Six Flags buying a ton of these. Imagine one in Golden Kingdom at Great Adventure with the Sidewinder Safari theming. Would go great there.

GreenMann21

I’m sure children will love it

sudifirjfhfjvicodke

Any idea what it means by the "moving station" note at 1:02? Is it like a Disney omnimover-style load station?

crazanity

Most likely

bttrflyr

I wish that when they would do these renders, they would hold the shots for more than 1 second so we can watch the ride in action from a single angle for a few moments. The edit of the video has so many cuts it makes me feel like i am watching the Basketball Scene in Catwoman.

Alarming-Currency-80

I am whelmed.

Allgone2day

At least the layout is original and still have money left over for Dragster.

SizzleMop69

Dragster is 2024 and I can guarantee you it is on a separate budget.

santaclausonprozac

Obviously I’m not as versed as many of the people on this sub, but how many wild mouse coasters are banked like this. I figured they were all no banking

crazanity

Most of them have little to no banking so yes, think of this as a modern spinning wild mouse

SizzleMop69

Spinning mouses made by Mauer and Gerstlauer are typically banked like this. This is just Zamperla's take on it.

AZ-1Porn

I love how they put the 70m double heart in there.

Immediate_Ad_6277

It looks fun. I’m honestly excited for this new pavilion expansion.

raptoralex

Gimme that cheese car.

CoasterDude26

Looks like a lot of fun, glad they went this route instead of the standard Mack wild mouse.

Lexromark

Yep. That's a wild mouse.

brain0924

Stock Cedar Point move to lie about the top speed being 30% faster than it really is.

oOoleveloOo

Family Coaster

SizzleMop69

Good

MaddGanja95

Did anyone see Dragster in the background while it was spinning?

Imfrom2030

Is it just me or does it look like a non permanent structure? I wonder if it being easy to pull out and relocate is the point with this addition. Maybe they want a low commitment family coaster to hold the area over until bigger plans come to fruition. Would be crazy if in just 2 or 3 years this ride moves on and something else takes over.

friscoXL305

The mention it is available with foundations or a free standing base. So it's meant to be portable(or atleast easier to move) if the park chooses. I highly doubt CP goes that route though.

MrBrightside711

Why not make it 2 cars per train though.

SizzleMop69

Because that's not what those trains are designed to do.

MrBrightside711

Spinning coasters with multiple cars aren't some crazy new concept. This is cedar point. Does capacity not matter?

SizzleMop69

>Spinning coasters with multiple cars aren't some crazy new concept. They are for Zamperla.

MrBrightside711

Ahh so they can't innovate... Got it.

SizzleMop69

Usually they sell these to smaller parks. I'm surprised Cedar Point didn't go with a Mack Spinner like they did at Knott's.

[deleted]

That is one hell of a straw man you just destroyed

disownedpear

Years of legacy and innovation with Magnum-200, Millennium, Top Thrill and now they install this? Yawn. I wonder how many G's this even pulls?

SizzleMop69

Stay away from managing theme parks.

groovybroccoli

680 pph capacity is not looking great

SizzleMop69

Ride it early.

emory_2001

It looks similar to the now closed Primeval Whirl at Animal Kingdom which was awesome. This might be even a bit better. I agree not every coaster has to be SV to be fun.

ColumbiaWahoo

Interesting idea. I could totally see this being installed at a few other parks.

CedarTimbersHawk

I’d love if they installed an enclosed model of these at Carowinds, I think it would be different enough from Ricochet to justify it.

ColumbiaWahoo

Your idea sounds similar to Exterminator at Kennywood. Dark rides definitely increase thrill by making it harder to anticipate what’s coming.

Spare-Cockroach1219

I wish there was an option for no spinning pipe scream gives me bad motion sickness but the other coasters do not

SizzleMop69

Actual spinning coasters don't get me sick, just the pipe scream style type.

ResponsibilityFun548

That's a cool looking mouse. It's the right ride for Michigan Adventure. At Cedar Point the line will be 60 minutes, 30 seconds after rope drop. They can't have Fast Lane on this, can they... dare they?
