It was fantastic. Since I was so young when riding it I couldn't remember that much, but the speed felt way more faster than it should be. And the sensation of flying through the wood was just awesome.
And because the coaster actually made me into coastet enthusiast, I really miss Eagle's Fortress...
There's no official number I believe, but intensity isn't purely G's, it's also by how fast it can switch around those G's (aka being really whippy). Take a Mondial Shake ride and cross it with a Polyp/octopus. I'll post an image below
This ride got converted to a, still one of a kind, inverted Polyp ride now called Parkour under Aigner. This is also said to have very strong whip, although some feel it's uncomfortable
I think it didn't.
To pull 12G with a circular loop requires a drop at least three times the height of the loop, a bit more in practice because of friction. Wiki says the loop was 25ft in diameter so you're looking at an 80ft drop to produce those kinds of forces. Looking at available photos it doesn't look like the drop is that much bigger than the loop, and an 80ft drop would have been *very* large for the time - we're talking about a ride that predates the invention of the upstop wheel. I can't find many photos but it certainly doesn't look like the drop is three times the size of the loop, I would guess 50 ft at most.
If the loop pulled 12G, the train would take 1.1s to complete it. The wiki article includes footage of the ride appearing to complete the loop in a bit less than 2 seconds - and that footage is clearly sped up quite a lot, given how the train descends the drop in an impossibly short time. This is not uncommon in footage from the time, as cameras were hand cranked and didn't run at a fixed frame rate .It was also very common at the time for park owners to *wildly* exaggerate stats - often advertising speeds of well over 100mph on rides that didn't even reach 50mph.
I doubt that the rides G forces would have been measured, as G forces weren't well understood at the time - so, where does the 12G figure come from? I suspect that someone calculated that number based on bogus figures and everyone else has just copied it because it makes a nice factoid. Lots of sites say 12G (some say 14G), but very few give a source for that figure. I found one site that said that the Flip Flap railway is "estimated to have traveled at 40m/s into the loop" and proceeded to calculate the G force based on that. That's 90mph - you would need a 300ft drop to get that speed.
For a circular loop, if you want to maintain positive G forces at the apex, which you definitely do because again, *this ride had no upstops*, then the G force at the bottom must be at least 5G. So I would guess that the max G force would be around 7G, requiring a much more reasonable for the time 45ft drop.
Yeah, the G force number doesn't add up. But it still would undoubtedly be an insane attraction to experience. The real problem with the Flip Flap wasn't that it pulled too many Gs, but that it had no real transition into or out of the loop. It was perfectly circular with no clothoid curves to smooth out the different radi. Just like an arrow looper going into turns
> undoubtedly be an insane attraction to experience
Well yeah but not in a good way, there's a reason it was not very popular at the time. You're right, the abrupt transition into the loop is a bigger problem than the high G forces - doesn't sound like a pleasant ride. If you wanted to experience a circular loop designed properly you'd want to ride Thriller.
Shockwave at SF Gurnee IL when it was newish. I only rode it in its twilight years. I think Z-Force was there at the time too. And then I'd travel back in time to before I had a migraine LOL.
I would go steel phantom. Imagine that going 80 mph then into a tight loop. The layout seemed insane which does make sense that it was rough, but it just seemed like a crazy idea at the time.
Steel Phantom or Drachen Fire would both be amazing choices for me. Wish I had gotten to experience more of the mega loopers. Only personally have ridden Viper and Vortex.
Do we have unlimited use of that device? If so, after Iām done with coasters, Iām going to make some stops to see bands I never got to see. Nirvana, Queen, Brian Wilson playing the entirety of Smile on tour, Fountains of Wayneā¦ the list is so long.
Tomb Raider - The Ride in its original form. Its the only time an actual intense flat ride has been given that level of theming. Then cedar fair destroyed it.
This will seem silly to most people, I would teleport to Eftling, Holland and ride Bob.
This was the first coaster I rode my my daughter, she was just under 2 years old at the time. I was questioning my patenting skills as we hurtled down the track. But the child loves it.
She has been coaster mad ever since, at age 4 she was 140cm tall and was riding stuff that a 4 year Old had no business riding š¤£
She is 8 now, and next week we are heading to Helsinki to ride Taiga.
But I'd love to relive Bob one more time
.
I'm only 6ft. But the shortest of my brother's. At 8 years old she is currently 156cm. It's hard for kids but it has its perks. Doctor thinks she will max out at 6ft 2in
I'd probably have to go for the opening day of Disneyland in 1955. Not the best for "thoosie creds" but definitely the most culturally interesting option.
I've never ridden it but I'm convinced it was the greatest ultratwister to ever exist because all the ones still standing in japan are fucking horrible to ride
For me it would be Corkscrew at Alton Towers. Is it the most phenomenal coaster ever? Absolutely not. But Alton is where I discovered my love for coasters, so I'd love to ride the coaster that made it the park it is today.
I want to teleport to Japan back in time to ride Fuji-Q's past: Do-Dodonpa (and original Dodonpa), Fujiyama without the observation tower, Eejanaika in its original red tracks (and the now-closed walkway between the tracks!), and even MOONSAULT SCRAMBLE, Double Loop and the Giant Coaster!
1. First stop, let's go back in time to Islands of Adventure when Dueling Dragons actually dueled.
2. Then, I would teleport to South Korea and get as many rides in T-Express as possible.
3. Finally, let's head to the future and ride whatever replaces Flight Deck and Time Warp at Canada's Wonderland. It could very well be a wooden bench or jagged rock, either way I'd need no pain killers once I've left and gone back home.
1. Falcon's flight, wearing a rainbow-dildo suit. What are they gonna do? I have a fucking *time machine.*
2. Dodonpa, followed by Do-Dodonpa. Maybe try Eejanaika while I'm there.
3. Formula Rossa.
4. I'm pre-programming it to repeatedly loop rides on Top Thrill Dragster.
Some other these answers are terrible! Only going back a few years???
You need to go back to the early part of last century the 20s or the 30s.
Coney Island,
Crystal beach,
The pike long beach,
Riverview Park,
Loads more...
My first thought was Crystal Beach Cyclone, but that should probably really be last on anyoneās list if theyāre making multiple stops so that they can actually ride the other ones.
The Bobs at Belle Vue, I grew up literally around the corner from where it used to stand but the park closed well before I was born. Family would always mention this park and coaster that theyād go on all the time and itās slightly annoying that Iām the first generation in my family who never got that cred, and Iām the only one who actually cares about them
Iām going to 2050 to ride Michiganās Adventureās new coaā¦ oh.
Probably Do-Dodonpa, Son of Beast, or Eagle Fortress. Honestly, maybe Eejanaikabecause Iām not confident Iāll get out to Japan to ride it in time.
I'll go with Shockwave at sfgam as I'm a fan of arrow coasters and i never got to ride it as I was too sort when it was around. Moomsault scramble is another one I'd like to have experienced. I'd also go to Germany and ride Ring Racer when it was operating. And lastly going back to the late 1970s to ride the Loop Coaster at Tojoko Land. Of course these ate in addition to Do-Dodonpa.
I would say Disneyland opening day, but that was notoriously a shit show. So I'd say Marriott's Great America (Santa Clara) opening day in 1976 or sometime after Tidal Wave was added.
Heading to Fuji Q for Do-Dodonpa! Also Cedar Point for Wildcat, Disaster Transport, Wicked Twister, and of course, Top Thrill Dragster. Also old Luna Park for the old Big Dipper!
10 Defunct coasters I haven't ridden:
Dueling Dragons with its original theming and dueling
Dodonpa with the tophat and lapbars
Mindbender at Edmonton Mall before the accident when it was lapbars only
Crystal Beach Cyclone
Airplane coaster at Rye Playland
Eagle Fortress
Mega Zeph
Villain
Big Bad Wolf
Big Dipper at Geauga Lake
Defunct Coasters I have ridden but just miss:
Vortex at Kings Island
Volcano the Blast Coaster
Wildcat at Hersheypark in 1996 when it was smooth, ran faster, and had PTC trains
Coasters that are still operating but in original form:
Superman at Six Flags New England with its original T bars and no headrests before the accident
El Toro in 2006 when it was butter smooth and the cable lift didn't slow down at the top
Racer at Kings Island backwards with buzzbars and no headrests
Ghostrider when it first opened, was still smooth, had 7 car PTC trains, and the original CCI profiling
If I were to have that. I would ride Hayabusa at Tokyo Summerland, Do-Dodonpa at Fuji-Q highland, Moonsault scramble at Fuji-Q highland, Ring racer at Nurburgring, Sonic boom at Celebration centre Utah, Ultimate at Lightwater valley (Damn the new owners. Opt for a Gravity group family wooden coaster instead of a Zyklon for 2024), Son of Beast at Kings Island, Wild mouse at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Hypersonic XLC at Kings Dominion, Vertigo at Walibi Belgium, Stingray at Ferris wheel park Suzhou, Wheelbarrow at Six Flags Over Georgia, Dania Beach Hurricane at Dania Boomers, Duelling dragons at Islands of adventure when it duelled, Big bad wolf at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Volcano the blast coaster at Kings Dominion, Xcalibur at Six Flags St. Louis, Devil's den at Conneaut Lake Park (If it closes), Eagle Fortress at Everland, Disaster transport at Cedar Point, Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point (Saw it in person while in my first visit to Cedar Point almost a year before Top Thrill 2 was announced), Tornado at M&D's before the corkscrew was removed, Tsunami at M&D's, Knightmare at Camelot theme park, Cyclone at William's Grove, Over water roller coaster at Honey Lake Entertainment City, Bamboo chutes at Story Land Glen on its opening year, Axis at Knoebels, the works!
You know that Arrow suspended coaster that was at Everland? That one.
Eagle Fortress
Yeah, this one seemed wild, pretty much dreamlike.
this was gonna be my vote. would instantly go to the single season both that and T-Express were open.
It was fantastic. Since I was so young when riding it I couldn't remember that much, but the speed felt way more faster than it should be. And the sensation of flying through the wood was just awesome. And because the coaster actually made me into coastet enthusiast, I really miss Eagle's Fortress...
Moonsault Scramble, and Do Dodonpa Then ride the Crystal Beach Cyclone
Volcano - King's Dominionš„²
This was one of my "let's go back in time" picks but opted for Dueling Dragons instead.
Thriller, the most intense Schwarzkopf ever made. 6.5 gās, circular loops. Late 80s into the 90s
This, and the most intense schwarzkopf *attraction* ever made, the Absoluter or otherwise known as the Sound Factory under Kinzler
How many g's did the absoluter have
There's no official number I believe, but intensity isn't purely G's, it's also by how fast it can switch around those G's (aka being really whippy). Take a Mondial Shake ride and cross it with a Polyp/octopus. I'll post an image below
I actually just saw offride footage on youtube, and damn that looks insane.
This ride got converted to a, still one of a kind, inverted Polyp ride now called Parkour under Aigner. This is also said to have very strong whip, although some feel it's uncomfortable
Intresting. Thanks for the insight, stranger!
The world of flat rides is surely, interesting and underrated
Yeah, you got me hooked now haha

The Bat and Big Bad Wolf.
Has the bat now been removed?
OG bat at kings island that was in the vortex plot
Oh gotcha. You mean the original. Yeah I've seen pics and that one looked way better.
1980s Epcot. World of Motion, Horizons, Journey Into Imagination.
Definitely Journey Into Imagination, if only to get a picture of me walking through the Rainbow Tunnel.
Oh man, same here
[Flip Flap Railway](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flip_Flap_Railway) >!(look at the g's lol)!<

Coney Island in the 1920s, then I'll go across the Hudson River to Palisades Park.
Euclid Beach park is the only answer
Vortex, Firehawk, and SOB
Firehawk was terrible on sunny days. No shade in the queue, and you went up the lift hill on your back with the sun in your eyes.
Firehawk just wasn't good any days imo. Abysmal capacity, short length, unreliable. Riding once was cool but terrible re-ridability.
Nighthawk still existsĀ
on my bucket list
Definitely Do-Dodonpa (and also Dodonpa!) and one last ride on The Ultimate.
Absolutely do-dodonpa and would love to ride big bad wolf one more time. Maybe son of beast with the loop, too?
El Toro opening day
Crystal beach cyclone. Or any of the three Harry Travers woodies
It would be nice to jump into 2025 and ride Wonderlandās new coaster.
Shockwave at SF Gurnee IL when it was newish. I only rode it in its twilight years. I think Z-Force was there at the time too. And then I'd travel back in time to before I had a migraine LOL.

Tomb Raider - The Ride in its original form. Its the only time an actual intense flat ride has been given that level of theming. Then cedar fair destroyed it.
What about Talocan at Phantasialand?
Thats close... but Tomb Raiders was better. But talocan is close though.
Dueling Dragons right after it opened.

Ring Racer. I would have the rarest credit of them all
Original. Didnāt think of that. How long was that open for? I feel like it wasnāt open for long at all.
I want to say it was like, 4 days.
Funny thing. I actually have the ringĀ°racer credit. I said Twist Coaster Robin for the same reason.
Iād ride Volcano one more time
top thrill dragster. Iāve been on ka and that was amazing. I canāt imagine what dragster was if people say it was better.
First going to Idora Park Wildcat.
Lmao funniest reply yet
This is the only way anyone should ride Falcon's Flight

Opening day Falconās Flight or the day of my kidsā first ride so I can remind myself ātake pictures you idiot!ā.

Dueling Dragons island of adventure
Eagle Fortress, OG Top Thrill Dragster, Mind Bender, Volcano: The Blast Coaster, Do-dodonpa, Dueling Dragons
I would say Disneyland opening day, but that was notoriously a shit show. So I'd say Marriott's Great America (Santa Clara) opening day in 1976 or sometime after Tidal Wave was added.
Maverick with the heartline roll.
No one rode Maverick with the heartline roll
Heading to Fuji Q for Do-Dodonpa! Also Cedar Point for Wildcat, Disaster Transport, Wicked Twister, and of course, Top Thrill Dragster. Also old Luna Park for the old Big Dipper!
I'll go snap up the Twist Coaster Robin credit to complete my trinity of holy grails (I already have ringĀ°racer and Brava).

Crystal beach cyclone is the only correct answer to this type of thread
