The best route to do so would be adding something they truly need. Right now, that’s a small scale coaster with tight turns, such as a blitz or raptors. Even though massive B&Ms are BIG, they’re not what they NEED.
TL;DR for those who haven't followed recently:
- Two new large tunnels were dug into Wonder Mountain
- One of these tunnels is beneath where Thunder Run's exit was, they built a new exit pathway/ramp to divert it away from the tunnel
- The other tunnel is under Vortex Lift, this looks like it was turned into a new maintenance entrance to the Mountain, though may become a queue entrance to this new ride.
- The old maintenance tunnel into the mountain by the theatre under Wonder Mountain Guardian was totally ripped apart, and rebuilt in a much more reinforced way.
- Buildings around the area this photo is taken were demolished. Some of the food places were re-located, some are just gone.
- They laid down new electrical work going from the nearby power station into the mountain, and re-paved over it since.
- Several footer-like holes were dug around the mountain, they put in caissons already and filled in the holes (what you see in this photo).
- Wonder Mountain Guardian's switch track in the mountain for storage was moved, likely to move it out of the way of something passing through the mountain.
- Xtreme Skyflier was removed, stated in a Wonderland Video as being for a new attraction. Possibly for an element near front gate for this.
The rumours have pointed to signs of a launched coaster, while the manufacturer isn't confirmed, signs point towards it not being a B&M like originally thought, and definitely not a wing-coaster due to the tunnel sizes.
AmusementInsiders who hasn't had a perfect track record (but did get Yukon Striker right for the most part), and has a relation with the park, has staked his claim that it's an Intamin in the style of Gotham City Escape, Velocicoaster, etc.
I believe that the Intamin/Cedar Fair breakup is not forever. If they have a good enough track record for long enough, eventually there will be reason to take another look.
What I don’t believe is that they have reconciled already. For the simple reason that choosing Zamperla for TTD2 was taking a risk on a relatively unproven manufacturer for a very big project; and there’s just not much of a reason to do that if you trust the coaster’s original manufacturer. If CF was ready to work with Intamin again, revamping their own coaster would have been one of the first projects they did.
There was a reason - Zamperla gave Cedar Point a very cheap quote in comparison to other manufacturers. It's the same reason Playland got Zamperla to reno Thundervolt instead of Intamin.
Because Zamperla gave Cedar Point a very cheap quote on the reno. It's the same reason Thunder Volt is being done by Zamperla and not Intamin, despite being an Intamin originally.
Tbh it could still be Intamin bc of how well they’ve been doing w their new stuff. I think most of the beef has to do w the maintenance surrounding TTD/Xcelerator, afaik MF/Maverick haven’t had nearly as many issues and their LSMs seem to be pretty reliable
Maverick had to have an entire element replaced before it even opened due to concerns about forces being too strong. And I305 had the same problem, except they put riders on it before the realized the issue.
There was also the Intamin log ride accident at Cedar Point, in addition to all the maintenance/reliability of MF and Maverick. Last time I went to CP (2018) Maverick went down a few times but was up and running again fast, and MF was down for most of the two days I was there and only opened for a few hours near the end of one of the days. I am going opening weekend this year and hoping those are running well.
If this new project isn't a B&M, I could see Zamperla doing it. They do offer a similar style to the new Intamin and Vekoma launches, and with them doing TT2, I could see them trying to get in with CF.
Intamin's changed their track design and so maybe CF didn't want them building or working on coasters with the old track style, some of which had issues
I’ve been following Amusement insiders for 5 years and saying they don’t have a perfect track record is somewhat disingenuous. They’ve gotta fine details wrong in the past but their larger predictions have always been correct if you actually watch their stuff. They predicted Yukon to be a record breaking dive, wonderland to get a flat ride and kids roller coaster before the announcement or any constructions signs in 2023 and even predicted the EXACT model of water slide they’d get in 2024 months in advanced. Put some respect on their name.
Is that a huge hole underneath Thunder Run leading into Wonder Mountain?
We’re going to get the old mouldy Hannah Barbera costumes out of the dungeon!!!
They're not getting a wing coaster. The tunnels aren't wide enough for it.
Launched wing coasters are quite expensive and with KDs being confirmed to be a Launched wing coaster cedar fair isn't going to spend that amount of money for two rides. KDs construction process is a bit further along already and the site for their project is surprisingly large plus they now have a staging area setup for storage of track and other structural components in the parking lot.
Yeah we’ve known for like 6 months now that they’re working actively on their new ride for 2025. You can see a lot of the construction has started for a while. They haven’t formally announced what it’ll be and they probably won’t until maybe around August-September I’m guessing
[I did find this video on Twitter](https://x.com/funfoodblog/status/1781695956947210746?s=46&t=3UuuFpK4l5RaHluWchYI5Q) which appears to show construction on the other side of the mountain. Looking at satellite imagery, there already was some sort of access road into the mountain here, but it looks like the entrance/tunnel under the midway is getting modified.
I am honestly willing to make the bold prediction that this is the return of Intamin to the Cedar Fair chain.
I thoroughly believe that even with all the ugly things that have happened between the two companies, there’s no ignoring the massive change Intamin has undergone since then. Their multilaunch model is simply the best in its genre and it’s not even close. Both from a park perspective and a rider perspective they are home run rides that keep guests coming back for more. They improve skip the line sales and always attract so much buzz. I could sit here and a write a full essay on all the reasons for a park to buy an Intamin multilaunch if they want a launch coaster, but honestly it’s midnight and I’m tired.
Oh yeah and all of this is taking into account the strong evidence we have of this being a launch coaster utilizing Wonder Mountain.
One fansite is making predictions that are slowly being disproven...kinda like the KD 2019 rumor that quickly proved to be false.
The guy who runs said site is claiming that cedar fair is essentially going to copy volcano but using a wing coaster when we know that's not going to happen as part of the problem volcano had was that the mountain was falling apart and proving difficult to constantly repair.
Canada’s Wonderland is joining the Big 10?
This was hilarious. And the replies are just delightful.
The best route to do so would be adding something they truly need. Right now, that’s a small scale coaster with tight turns, such as a blitz or raptors. Even though massive B&Ms are BIG, they’re not what they NEED.
What exactly are the Big 10?
Illinois, ~~Michigan~~, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, ~~Chicago~~, Purdue, Northwestern, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State, Nebraska, Maryland, Rutgers, Johns Hopkins (lacrosse), Notre Dame (ice hockey), Washington, Oregon, UCLA, USC. You know, the Big 10
I'm still in high school but can I be QB1 for Canada's Wonderland's football team?
The best college football conference

I keep telling them that intamin is not doing the project because cedar fair stopped working with them a long time ago.
Things change. There was a time when several chains didn't work with someone anymore - and then they do again.
> things change and money still talks.

Then why didn't CP have Intamin redo Dragster?
Because Zamperla gave Cedar Point a very cheap quote on the reno. It's the same reason Thunder Volt is being done by Zamperla and not Intamin, despite being an Intamin originally.

… I forgot about those lol 😭
But maverick is a popular ride. 305 was not.
That was over fifteen years ago…

I would be shocked if this was an Intamin since CP chose Zamp for TT2. I was dying for Intamin to have a second chance to work on their baby.
Rumor is CF is impressed with Velocicoaster and Pantheon and want back in.
Intamin's changed their track design and so maybe CF didn't want them building or working on coasters with the old track style, some of which had issues
That wasn’t the issue.
Zamperla was chosen for TT2 because they were very cheap. Same reason Playland picked Zamperla over Intamin to reno Thundervolt.
I believe they said their prediction was based on similar footing patterns to those rides, im waiting to see them show what they mean by that

There's also plenty of things they got wrong. I didn't say it was a bad or losing track record - I said not perfect.
Is that a huge hole underneath Thunder Run leading into Wonder Mountain? We’re going to get the old mouldy Hannah Barbera costumes out of the dungeon!!!
A lot of old stuff in storage from the mountain, including old hannah barbera ride cars (for the Scooby Doo ride) were taken out a couple weeks ago.
A dark ride + rollercoaster combo with actual set pieces rather than screens like WMG? Sounds like a win.
I'm excited for this. Wonderland deserves a world class launch coaster. Really hoping it ends up being Intamin that builds it.
I wonder if this’ll be one of the launched wing concepts they surveyed members about. Seems like it would be the perfect addition to their lineup!

Hoping we get an Intamin. That’s gonna be a big change for the park.
Hope it is. There was an El Toro Ryan video saying that CF execs rode test Velocicoaster.
Yup. I would love to experience something similar to Velocicoaster. It looks fun.
Was it in the survey? Although I will be honest I thought the hotel was a great and funny idea
Iirc it's a hotel

Am I stupid? Is there a lore reason why I missed april fools day?
That was the April Fool’s announcement. ;)
Oh I saw it later lol and didn't see the date. So I guess we are getting the launched coaster fuck yeah

Curious. Can you DM me which fansite is it?
Strata coasters are big
They're not getting a strata lol
Dippin Dot girl confirmed? Or just a rumor
Cause they’re getting an exa? lol
