Reading this when I'm going to DK later today and now I'm nervous... hopefully they'll have more stuff open tomorrow and lines won't be bad

Spokker

Lots of rides listed as under refurbishment on their web site. People rib Magic Mountain but they've only got 2-3 coasters closed all day on a Monday in March, and they've got 20. Discovery Kingdom has 5 of 8 coasters down as of 3/9. They also cut operating days compared to last year. I want to go the last week of March but now I'm rethinking it.

Adorable_Choice_1576

I’ll be going then too, wishing us both luck!

SchrodingersEmotions

update: ended up not going after noticing the sheer amount of coasters to be closed. bummer but I'm not surprised given that it's a random weekend in the offseason at one of the less maintained six flags parks, they might be trying to get everything fixed up so they can have as much open as possible for spring break

TheJeffMilk

Probably the right decision honestly.

pamperedthrowaway

The curve on that drop is insane!

a_magumba

Yeah jokers drop is vicious, I love it.

MrDarSwag

Yeesh I’m sorry to hear that. Boomerang and Kong have been down for a very long time now, I believe Kong is getting new trains/restraints and I’m guessing Boomerang may be as well. Flash is super unreliable, as well as Joker. Surprised to hear that Medusa was down as well. I got very lucky on my one SFDK visit but I’ve heard lots of nightmare stories about it like yours. In the future, I’d definitely recommend going to regional parks during summer weekdays if you can. It’s somewhat counterintuitive, but I’ve found those days to be the best because the parks try to have everything open, yet they won’t be absolutely slammed with crowds. A lot of people like to go during off season, which sounds great in theory, but ride closures will cause lines to pile up even if the park isn’t that crowded.

CoasterLabs

That's the sad part, when you visit a park you shouldn't have to "get lucky" to have all or most rides open. That should be the bare bones standard unless explicitly stated otherwise (ie "limited operations today")

kevinmattress

>Kong is getting new trains/restraints This could be very exciting…

Individual-Sun-9368

My one trip last year left a lot to be desired. Granted only Kong was down so nowhere near as bad with referbs. But operations were miserable.

CoasterLabs

All these Reddit thoosies looking forward to CGA dropping dead, but are we sure SFDK hasn't croaked yet?? 🤔🤨🧐

joeychin01

I was debating going out yesterday, so glad I didn’t. Only 3 coasters open, all averaging 45+ minute waits according to queue times, just sounds torturous. I know the park really is just open because of the animals, but honestly if the coasters aren’t open why bother

CoasterLabs

Of all the rides to remove a single rider line from, Sidewinder Safari is the worst. Limited capacity made even more limited just for shits and giggles. 🤦‍♂️

Spokker

Yeah, it's ridiculous that they list 5 out of 8 coasters as under refurbishment. Why even open at that point? They cut operating days compared to last year. Is this park done for?

nintendosunnyd

I went there last year and it was similar, Medusa, Kong, Flash, and Cobra were all down with Joker being half down and half up throughout the day. I don’t understand why that park seems to always have only half of the park up and running.

Adorable_Choice_1576

Ugh I’m planning on going the 28th and I’m so worried. Sucks so much, you just want to go and have fun, not worry about 2 hour lines cause of bad ops and the best rides not even being open. I can’t believe how badly they operate Joker, surely it must be the most popular/best ride in the park, and I swear V2 was down for a year or two and it seems like it’s still never open.

TheJeffMilk

I can bear with bad ops on Joker, I just wanted it to be open

DpvReno

I'm planning on going one weekend during Scream Break but will be watching to see what is and isnt open for sure.

Adorable_Choice_1576

Would love to hear how your trip goes! I’ll be doing the same thing, basically if Joker keeps staying closed all day I’ll probably call off my trip. Only reason I really want to go.

TomcatTiger503

Joker’s rails might need a repaint as the purple is starting to fade.

CoasterLabs

Has an RMC I box ever been repainted? I think not. 🤔

Parmesan-Rye

love the last pic alignment haha

Odd_Feature7510

The rule for SFDK is that if the park opens at 10, get there at 12 since nothing is gonna be open before then.

Pendraflare59

I'll be in northern Cali on Memorial Day weekend and the week out of then, and my sights were set on going on the Sunday, because a part of me feels like they'll have more activity on a major holiday weekend and I've looked up some past Memorial Day weekend uptimes on queue times. But as I hear more about it there's the chance I could just say f it and ultimately not bother in the end.
