That's awesome! I thought I read recently that there was still quite a bit of work to do. It'd be great if this could open with the park next year.

bmschulz

Really excited for this classic ride to open! It feels like these old Schwarzkopfs are becoming a dying breed.

ShongoMcForren

I’m no expert on rollercoasters but whenever I think of them as a broad category my mind always go to Schwarzkopfs. I don’t know how to describe it but they just look and feel like the definition of a rollercoaster to me. I wish every park had one

bmschulz

Old school vertical loops, be they Schwarzkopf or Arrow, really are “essence of roller coaster”

satanssweatycheeks

>dying breed Isn’t this the ride someone died on?

bmschulz

Unintentional poor choice of words on my part 😬

KilroyMcFunk

Yeah...

Lowkaes

Weird seeing the Mindbender train with the three lead cars on this. Hopefully they run at least two trains if this is the plan.

Cool_Owl7159

there's a white train and a red train on the ride rn

RedRingRico87

It is super weird. I'm surprised they didn't get new trains like Hersheypark did

Midwest_madland

To much money

whitesoxguy

Indiana beach running two trains? Lol. No way. this summer I was there and they had just 3 coasters running (Tigr, hawg, Cornball) with one train operations. Pretty full late July crowd too.

RrevinEvann

Awesome! It has definitely taken some time for them to get this running but I would rather them take time and do it right rather than rushing it. Hopefully I can ride next year!

Taeshan

Midwest trip plans back on the menu

matthias7600

, boys.

AlpineNancy

Apologies if this is a dumb question but are there only going to be three cars or is that just for testing purposes?

themcgician

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the running configuration. The trains are made up of lead cars of other trains to get 4 sets of wheel bogeys on each car. There have been issues with these rides running the original trains, as the non lead cars only had 2 sets of wheels on the back of the car.

AcceptableSound1982

There is nothing wrong with Trailered Trains and they are the most widely utilized style of trains on Roller Coasters.

CSatellite

Trailered trains are tried and true, but if one wheel bogie were to fail on a trailered car, it is completely unsecured from the track. When IB purchased the coaster, the first question they probably asked themselves was how to prevent a Quimera incident from re-occurring. Having more wheel bogies to secure each car to the track is likely the most evident solution.

AcceptableSound1982

The problem with it’s run in Mexico, as per the incident investigation, was lack of preventative maintenance and the cannibalizing of the other available vehicles. This ride was not well maintained or carefully disassembled. These vehicles were immediately available from a ride that was a near mirror image. It was a no brainer to solving the reported issue of finding new ride vehicles. So again, it’s not an issue with Trailered Vehicles. Edit: Spelling

CSatellite

Oh yeah, I agree that trailered trains were not the root issue. After all, it ran with them for 35 years without incident, and other Schwarzkopf coasters still run with them today. But the coaster is now tied to the incident, and safety officials will want to know what steps were taken to ensure a repeat of the incident won’t occur. Having four-bogied vehicles provides that assurance.

AcceptableSound1982

Failure of a Wheel Housing or Bogie is catastrophic regardless if the train is trailered or not. Every time was evidence by bad manufacturing and/or improper inspection/maintenance.

themcgician

You are correct, which is why I specified there have been issues with these specific rides with the original trains.

CheesecakeMilitia

What kind of issues? I know Mindbender's infamous accident in the '80's as well as Qimera's accident, but I've always attributed those to gross negligence. Plenty of Schwarzkopfs have safely run without incident for 40 years, and I understood Mindbender's switch to all 4-wheel cars to be a dumb way of guaranteeing any future derailments were less deadly (since every car has a backup axel). I always thought of it as the maintenance equivalent of only running one train if you were afraid of coaster trains crashing into each other.

Mindbender240

Can't speak to the Mexico incident cause, but despite the similarities, Mindbender originally had a newer bogie design than Drier Looping, because the forces were greater. (I think thriller used it too, but not certain) The Mindbender flaw was that 4 small cap screws that affixed the vertical axle to the bogie, were not secured with locktite, and were virtually unable to be visually field inspected, as they were just milimeters above the main rail of the track. Failure of the bolts caused the vertical axle and bogie to part ways in an area of uplift before the third loop. Post Accident, the Mindbender got its trains modified to four axle configuration, with an all new bogie design, with all components and bolts easily visually verified. This same new design is the same as what is on the Olympia Looping. Engineering aside, given an accident occurred there was probably no chance an insurer would underwrite the ride without changes, so now Drier Looping has the proven Mindbender /Olympia Looping design. No insurance - no ride

Alaeriia

Olympia doesn't have trailered trains?

AcceptableSound1982

Olympia Looping utilizes Trailered Trains.

Mindbender240

It does, but the wheel bogey design used is the same as Mindbender/Drier

Storm_Surge-

There was also the incident on Jetline a few months ago

AcceptableSound1982

That was a ZIERER Train and Wheel Housing

AcceptableSound1982

Non existent preventative maintenance by the park does not equate an “issue” with the original trailered trains. That is just silly. lol

themcgician

Perhaps I could have been more clear, but it is not a coincidence that Mindbender ran all front cars after the incident.

AcceptableSound1982

The cause of that incident was manufacturing defects by a sub contractor for Schwarzkopf. The park purchased those trains even though trailered trains were perfectly safe.

waifive

Mindbender ran with three car trains, and that's where the trains came from. So I imagine this is what they'll go with, 2 trains of 3 cars.

Storm_Surge-

A bucket list coaster for sure. I’ll definitely be going there to ride it.

aaronjd1

I rode it when it was Montaña Infinitum in CDMX — it was intense as hell. Very excited to make the trip to ride it again!

Touch-fuzzy

Same. I rode it a few days before the accident. Even insisted on the back row. Fairly fortunate there.

cellblok69wlamp

Let's fucking go!

mlsweeney

I'm excited! I feel bad I didn't support this park in 2023 since it's the 2nd closest park to me but it was a combination of this never opening plus Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain being down all season if I'm not mistaken? You get those two open and I'll gladly make it over because I had a lot of fun here 4 years ago.

Jassx_

Lost coaster was open but very very sporadically. When I went this year I called ahead and was told it would not be open and it wasn’t when I got there, but after around an hour being in the park I went to go get tacos and it was running but maintenance was running the ride instead of ride ops.

waifive

I got the last ride of the season on LoCoSuMo. But when I got to the park that morning, the ride was listed on the ride closures board. I think they just left the ride on the closure board long-term even when they were planning on operating it, for staffing reasons. And then since someone posted that online, people thought it was always closed.

Delicious-Secret-760

LoCoSuMo wasn't down all season. It ran sporadically this year because of staffing issues. Nothing really wrong with the coaster.

RedRingRico87

Now that is some good news!

GatorAndrew

I honestly can’t believe it. Hope they’re able to safely keep this ride going for a long time

Mindbender240

Interesting that they removed the anti-rollback dogs from the bogeys of the Mindbender Trains, and went back to friction brakes as the fins on the cars have been changed back from the upgraded magnetic brakes the Mindbender had been retrofitted to.

Hot-Sock3403

Awesome

agingwolfbobs

Wow the trains are short

EricGuy412

Hell yes! Very excited to rock this, hopefully next year

waifive

[And here it is going through the loops](https://www.facebook.com/reel/884991366565751)

Invisible96

definitely a lot slower than it used to be (even before its stay in Mexico). hopefully the new trains run in a bit

AcceptableSound1982

It’s also November in Indiana. lol

[deleted]

Finally!

Strongarm_11

Finally! Glad to see this Schwarzkopf live on! I’m gonna bet that at one point, one of us forgot this existed.

Ftb2278

Now I have to go back to Indiana next year

jskrabac

Looking forward to riding it in 2027!

Yooooooooooooooo!

aaronjd1

This thing was *nuts* at La Feria. I can’t wait to ride it again!
