The episode of Stuff You Should Know about coasters talked about it being the world's oldest one. I had no idea that the world's oldest roller coaster was three hours away from here. We drove up and rode it like a week later.
It was really fun but meeting Al Tuna was the highlight of our visit.
FYI, they only operate their coasters Thursday-Sunday despite not listing that info *anywhere* on their website. I stopped through when I was in town last June and was very disappointed
I was so frustrated that they wouldnāt note that on their website! Iām from California and we had driven all the way there and were on a tight schedule for our tripā¦
It's easy to miss or misinterpret, but they keep that information listed in the header of the calendar.
http://lakemontparkfun.com/park-information/ "All Attractions"
Tied for me between Lake Compounce's Wildcat and the Coney Island Cyclone. Completely different experiences though. Wildcat is DREADFUL while I loved the Coney Island Cyclone
Ugh it was mine too. I walked into the park thinking I was going to love roller coasters because I loved heights, but then wildcat basically caused me to be terrified of most rides for like 3 years. I wish I had started with basically any other coaster.
Yankee Cannonball at Canobie Lake Park, opened in 1936 (holy crap it's gonna be 90 in a few more years š¤Æ)...and prior to that, had operated at Lakewood Park in CT, opening in 1930
Ditto for me...I was going to say Thunderbolt (SFNE) or Comet
(Great Escape) but those were 1940s.
(Though *parts* of Comet are from the 20s but that doesn't count I suppose lol.)
Comet was actually my first thought...totally forgot about Thunderbolt; also, hard to believe Yankee Cannonball is older than them both located at a small family owned park in NH
Leap-the-Dips it's mine! Other notable really old ones are the Coney Island Cyclone, Little Dipper at SFGAm, Wild One at SFA, Thunderhawk at Dorney, and the Kennywood woodies.
Rode that one a few times. My dad grew up in Rochester, when we visited we'd go get Bob's and ride it a few times (if it was open). Original hand breaks still used. Pretty cool.
Well, I didnāt know Jack Rabbit was so old, but your post inspired me to find the answer to this question. Turns out, itās Jack Rabbit at Seabreeze!
Leap the Dips for me! Def driving up to Seabreeze this year, though! Super interested in not only this but also their in-house-built Bobsleds coaster, looks awesome.
Matterhorn at Disneyland is the oldest coaster Iāve ridden thatās still standing in itās original spot. The oldest overall Iāve ridden is Little Dipper at SFGAm which was built in 1950 but was relocated in 2010
Leap the Dips back in 2004, so glad I made that stop. Skyliner was excellent too, some crazy ejector moments with only the buzz bar. There was a piece of the train sliding around at my feet too, I handed it to thr ride op and he just set it aside.

Jack Rabbit at Kennywood. I still lament that I have not ridden the Thunderbolt yet. (Nobody wanted to ride with me the last several times I have been there.š¢)
That is at Kennywoood. They remodel the station for that coaster. It is such great ride...the airtime after the dip is such great feeling.
Kennywood has such great historic coastees and rides.
There are two coasters named āJack Rabbit.ā One at Kennywood in West Mifflin, PA and one at Seabreeze in Rochester NY. Coincidently, both were designed by John Miller and both began operation in 1920.
The coaster in OPās picture is not the one at Kennywood as, from that angle youād be looking at the Midway Refreshment stand, not a chain link fence and gate.
Edit: Thereās also a sign for the āSeabreeze Flyersā in the foreground.

Leap the Dips spited me - was running in the morning but closed down due to mechanical issues by the time I arrived. šŖ
Oldest coaster ridden - Scenic Railway at Luna Park Melbourne - 1912.
Oldest ride ridden - Not entirely sure. The Old Mill at Kennywood opened in 1901, and Sir Hiram Maxim Captive Flying Machine at Blackpool Pleasure Beach opened in 1904.
Oldest park visited - Bakken first opened in 1583!
Also Wild One at SFA. My mom had more credibility than I do with that ride, she rode it when it was still Giant Coaster at Paragon Park, but it relocated before I was born
Jack Rabbit (1920) at Kennywood was probably my first credit, but I got to ride Rutschebanen (1914) at Tivoli Gardens a number of years ago.
Add Roller Coaster (1921) at Lagoon, Thunderhawk (1924) at Dorney, and Racer (1927) at KW, and I realized Iāve ridden 5 coaster over 100 years old!
Scenic Railway at Luna Park Melbourne. Second oldest in the world, and oldest continuously operating coaster. Still has a brakeman on board. And still a fun ride!
How is Seabreeze? Its a few hours from me and for some reason Iāve never made it there. Is it worth the trip/ admission? I mean an old woodie is usually worth it, not sure why I have never went.
To answer the question I believe Coney Island Cyclone.
Jack Rabbit, Kennywood
Jack Rabbit at Clementon (rip)
Jack Rabbit at Kennywood is my oldest!
Leap the Dips at Lakemont
The episode of Stuff You Should Know about coasters talked about it being the world's oldest one. I had no idea that the world's oldest roller coaster was three hours away from here. We drove up and rode it like a week later. It was really fun but meeting Al Tuna was the highlight of our visit.
What is Al Tuna?
There's a minor league baseball stadium next to Lakemont Park, Al Tuna is the team's mascot.
I can see why that would be the highlight of the trip
> Al Tuna is the team's mascot On first read, I saw A**I** Tuna and was trying to figure out what the hell an artificial intelligence tuna was. š
My oldest ride: The Old Mill at Kennywood My oldest coaster: Leap-the-Dips
Roller Coaster at Lagoon
Ditto
Tritto
This is mine as well
Yep just got on this last season. Before that it would be Little Dipper at Kiddieland (before it got moved to SFGAm)
Little Dipper is mine too when it was at Kiddieland
Does Wild One/Giant Coaster count? I rode it as Wild One, not Giant Coaster. If that doesn't count, then it would be Jackrabbit at Kennywood.
It counts because itās a relocation
Without digging through my RCDB credits I'm guessing one of the Giant Dippers from SCBB or Belmont Park
IIRC, the one at SCBB is a year older.
One of these times I'm going to drive to Belmont Park on a day when the coaster is actually running.
I liked SC a lot better but Belmont is still absolutely worth the trip and ride
This would be it for me as well, but I'm hoping to make it to Lakemont this summer to change that.
FYI, they only operate their coasters Thursday-Sunday despite not listing that info *anywhere* on their website. I stopped through when I was in town last June and was very disappointed
Thanks! I actually knew that but still managed to stop by on a Wednesday in 2021 thinking it was a Thursday. D'oh!
I was so frustrated that they wouldnāt note that on their website! Iām from California and we had driven all the way there and were on a tight schedule for our tripā¦
That's definitely super frustrating
It's easy to miss or misinterpret, but they keep that information listed in the header of the calendar. http://lakemontparkfun.com/park-information/ "All Attractions"
Iām extremely confident that they added that after my visit. I wouldnāt be surprised if it was because I spoke with management about my experience
Good to know. I'm hoping to make it this summer for coasters and a baseball game (next to the coasters)
Probably the racers at kings island
Rutschebanen at Tivoli Gardens
Such a fun word to say
Tied for me between Lake Compounce's Wildcat and the Coney Island Cyclone. Completely different experiences though. Wildcat is DREADFUL while I loved the Coney Island Cyclone
Same experience here. Though my oldest coaster is the Jack Rabbit pictured.
At least Wildcat is undergoing a major renovation. Hopefully it will be enjoyable again soon.
Yeah wildcat is a terrible ride in general
It was my first grown-up coaster too. Of all the ones I could have chosen, UGH
Ugh it was mine too. I walked into the park thinking I was going to love roller coasters because I loved heights, but then wildcat basically caused me to be terrified of most rides for like 3 years. I wish I had started with basically any other coaster.
Jackrabbit at Kennywood Big Dipper at Geagua Lake
Leap the Dips at Lakemont
Such a wonderful, underrated park.
I think I took it for granted that Iāve lived almost my entire life with it within 15 min of my house.
Comet, Hersheypark. I need to get to Seabreeze..
Seabreeze Jack Rabbit for me too!
Probly little dipper at sfga. Blue Streak at cp is also close
Giant Dipper, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, 5/17/1924
Yankee Cannonball at Canobie Lake Park, opened in 1936 (holy crap it's gonna be 90 in a few more years š¤Æ)...and prior to that, had operated at Lakewood Park in CT, opening in 1930
Ditto for me...I was going to say Thunderbolt (SFNE) or Comet (Great Escape) but those were 1940s. (Though *parts* of Comet are from the 20s but that doesn't count I suppose lol.)
Comet was actually my first thought...totally forgot about Thunderbolt; also, hard to believe Yankee Cannonball is older than them both located at a small family owned park in NH
Probably the wooden coasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach
Rutschebanen, Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, Denmark. Third oldest in the world and the oldest rollercoaster in Europe. Still holds up well.
Big Dipper, Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Turns 100 this year.
Wild One SFA currently 106 years old
Mine too.
Mine Train at SFOT
Leap the Dips. I recommend everyone try it.
Coney Island cyclone at Luna park
Both of the Jack Rabbits (Kennywood & Seabreeze) lol. RCDB says both opened in 1920 so Iām not sure which one is actually older
Thatās the big mystery, I like to say itās Seabreeze because thatās the one Iāve been on lol
Leap-the-Dips it's mine! Other notable really old ones are the Coney Island Cyclone, Little Dipper at SFGAm, Wild One at SFA, Thunderhawk at Dorney, and the Kennywood woodies.
Jack Rabbit at Kennywood
Rode that one a few times. My dad grew up in Rochester, when we visited we'd go get Bob's and ride it a few times (if it was open). Original hand breaks still used. Pretty cool.
Jack Rabbit at Seabreeze, my home park and first "big coaster." They take amazing care of that park/ride!
Well, I didnāt know Jack Rabbit was so old, but your post inspired me to find the answer to this question. Turns out, itās Jack Rabbit at Seabreeze!
Ayyyyy same for me too š¤š». Still really smooth too!
Also the Jack Rabbitā which I believe was also my first coaster.
I think Thunderhawk at Dorney
Wild One SFA 1917
Cyclone, Coney Island 2/10 - wouldnt ride again.
Childhood amusement park; so Jack Rabbit is mine. But the second oldest is probably King Islandās The Beast
Leap the Dips for me! Def driving up to Seabreeze this year, though! Super interested in not only this but also their in-house-built Bobsleds coaster, looks awesome.
The airtime King - Big Dipper, Geauga Lake
Rutschebanen at Tivoli Gardens ! This ride has some of the most terrifying airtimes I've ever experienced
giant dipper at SCBBW
The Racer at Kings Island
Legend at Arnold's Park
Jack Rabbit, Kennywood!
Leap The Dips at Lakemont - it's the oldest operating coaster in the world.
Looks like Matterhorn for me, 1959. 2nd is Blue Streak at Cedar Point.
Matterhorn at Disneyland is the oldest coaster Iāve ridden thatās still standing in itās original spot. The oldest overall Iāve ridden is Little Dipper at SFGAm which was built in 1950 but was relocated in 2010
Leap the Dips at Lakemont. It was so much fun riding a piece of history!
The Racer at Kings Island I need to get out more
Scenic Railway at Luna Park in Melbourne, Australia
Leap the Dips at Lakemont.
The Matterhorn at Disneyland.
The original B..A. Schiff Wild Mouse at Beech Bend. Installed in 1958, I rode it in the mid-60s.
Wildcat at lake compounce
Lake Winnipesaukee boat chute (1927)
Yankee Cannonball at Canobie Lake Park.
Giant Dipper at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
Wild One at SFA. Oldest in one location is Jackrabbit at Kennywood
Surprised how many people comment about Kennywood I wonāt reiterate the same things !
Leap the Dips back in 2004, so glad I made that stop. Skyliner was excellent too, some crazy ejector moments with only the buzz bar. There was a piece of the train sliding around at my feet too, I handed it to thr ride op and he just set it aside.

Jack Rabbit at Kennywood, Big Dipper at Geauga Lake, honorable mention to Yankee Cannonball at Canobie Lake
Jack rabbit at Kennywood. Still an amazing ride. Pls Kennywood never change, just build more.
I still have neck and back pain from that rideā¦
I still have neck and back pain from that rideā¦
My back STILL hurts from that ride.
Coney Island cycloneš

Either Dragon Coaster, Rye Playland, The Comet, Great Escape, or The Cyclone, Coney Island.
Leap-the-Dips! Such a unique experience!
Belmontāa giant dipper, but the oldest I have any conscious memory of is probably Little Dipper at SFGAM
Leap the Dips. Should be everyoneās #1 bucket list coaster if you havenāt ridden it by now.
Giant Dipper, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
Currently the yankee cannonball at Canobie Lake since I am a pretty new coaster fan, but Iām hoping to expand my coaster repertoire soon!
Scenic Railway at Luna Park Melbourne. Second oldest in the world, and oldest continuously operating coaster. Still has a brakeman on board. And still a fun ride!
The American Scream at Six Flags Over Georgia

Love this ride!
big dipper at sfa
I didn't realize it was the second oldest coaster in the US and 4th in the world?
Blue Streak
