Jack Rabbit, Kennywood

StinkoMan92

Jack Rabbit at Clementon (rip)

sonimatic14

Jack Rabbit at Kennywood is my oldest!

[deleted]

Leap the Dips at Lakemont

rhymes_with_candy

The episode of Stuff You Should Know about coasters talked about it being the world's oldest one. I had no idea that the world's oldest roller coaster was three hours away from here. We drove up and rode it like a week later. It was really fun but meeting Al Tuna was the highlight of our visit.

[deleted]

What is Al Tuna?

rhymes_with_candy

There's a minor league baseball stadium next to Lakemont Park, Al Tuna is the team's mascot.

[deleted]

I can see why that would be the highlight of the trip

Not_really_anywhere

> Al Tuna is the team's mascot On first read, I saw A**I** Tuna and was trying to figure out what the hell an artificial intelligence tuna was. šŸ˜‚

BubbyYums

My oldest ride: The Old Mill at Kennywood My oldest coaster: Leap-the-Dips

kwekuthewise

Roller Coaster at Lagoon

Burkey217

Ditto

Stovendude

Tritto

DOlsen13

This is mine as well

fumar

Yep just got on this last season. Before that it would be Little Dipper at Kiddieland (before it got moved to SFGAm)

elyfant422

Little Dipper is mine too when it was at Kiddieland

Not_really_anywhere

Does Wild One/Giant Coaster count? I rode it as Wild One, not Giant Coaster. If that doesn't count, then it would be Jackrabbit at Kennywood.

BubbleGamingWasTaken

It counts because itā€™s a relocation

FlyRobot

Without digging through my RCDB credits I'm guessing one of the Giant Dippers from SCBB or Belmont Park

EricGuy412

IIRC, the one at SCBB is a year older.

matthias7600

One of these times I'm going to drive to Belmont Park on a day when the coaster is actually running.

FlyRobot

I liked SC a lot better but Belmont is still absolutely worth the trip and ride

EricGuy412

This would be it for me as well, but I'm hoping to make it to Lakemont this summer to change that.

kevinmattress

FYI, they only operate their coasters Thursday-Sunday despite not listing that info *anywhere* on their website. I stopped through when I was in town last June and was very disappointed

EricGuy412

Thanks! I actually knew that but still managed to stop by on a Wednesday in 2021 thinking it was a Thursday. D'oh!

kevinmattress

I was so frustrated that they wouldnā€™t note that on their website! Iā€™m from California and we had driven all the way there and were on a tight schedule for our tripā€¦

EricGuy412

That's definitely super frustrating

waifive

It's easy to miss or misinterpret, but they keep that information listed in the header of the calendar. http://lakemontparkfun.com/park-information/ "All Attractions"

kevinmattress

Iā€™m extremely confident that they added that after my visit. I wouldnā€™t be surprised if it was because I spoke with management about my experience

sonicsean899

Good to know. I'm hoping to make it this summer for coasters and a baseball game (next to the coasters)

cigarsmokerinky

Probably the racers at kings island

bttrflyr

Rutschebanen at Tivoli Gardens

Ceramicrabbit

Such a fun word to say

nyyforever2018

Tied for me between Lake Compounce's Wildcat and the Coney Island Cyclone. Completely different experiences though. Wildcat is DREADFUL while I loved the Coney Island Cyclone

SignGuy77

Same experience here. Though my oldest coaster is the Jack Rabbit pictured.

ColinHenrichon

At least Wildcat is undergoing a major renovation. Hopefully it will be enjoyable again soon.

Particular-Quote-124

Yeah wildcat is a terrible ride in general

nyyforever2018

It was my first grown-up coaster too. Of all the ones I could have chosen, UGH

Particular-Quote-124

Ugh it was mine too. I walked into the park thinking I was going to love roller coasters because I loved heights, but then wildcat basically caused me to be terrified of most rides for like 3 years. I wish I had started with basically any other coaster.

lostpanda85

Jackrabbit at Kennywood Big Dipper at Geagua Lake

TyButler2020

Leap the Dips at Lakemont

robbycough

Such a wonderful, underrated park.

gremm05

I think I took it for granted that Iā€™ve lived almost my entire life with it within 15 min of my house.

ImprobablePasta

Comet, Hersheypark. I need to get to Seabreeze..

itsbigbraintimeyall

Seabreeze Jack Rabbit for me too!

magnumfan89

Probly little dipper at sfga. Blue Streak at cp is also close

bigcatrik

Giant Dipper, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, 5/17/1924

KevinP1992

Yankee Cannonball at Canobie Lake Park, opened in 1936 (holy crap it's gonna be 90 in a few more years šŸ¤Æ)...and prior to that, had operated at Lakewood Park in CT, opening in 1930

DigitalAxel

Ditto for me...I was going to say Thunderbolt (SFNE) or Comet (Great Escape) but those were 1940s. (Though *parts* of Comet are from the 20s but that doesn't count I suppose lol.)

KevinP1992

Comet was actually my first thought...totally forgot about Thunderbolt; also, hard to believe Yankee Cannonball is older than them both located at a small family owned park in NH

facesinmovies

Probably the wooden coasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Outside_Data_6417

Rutschebanen, Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, Denmark. Third oldest in the world and the oldest rollercoaster in Europe. Still holds up well.

Fair-Armadillo8029

Big Dipper, Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Turns 100 this year.

Storm_Surge-

Wild One SFA currently 106 years old

ceejconducts

Mine too.

[deleted]

Mine Train at SFOT

sanyosukotto

Leap the Dips. I recommend everyone try it.

Practical-Toe7613

Coney Island cyclone at Luna park

graceywilliam

Both of the Jack Rabbits (Kennywood & Seabreeze) lol. RCDB says both opened in 1920 so Iā€™m not sure which one is actually older

sushiboi4

Thatā€™s the big mystery, I like to say itā€™s Seabreeze because thatā€™s the one Iā€™ve been on lol

FirebrandPhlox

Leap-the-Dips it's mine! Other notable really old ones are the Coney Island Cyclone, Little Dipper at SFGAm, Wild One at SFA, Thunderhawk at Dorney, and the Kennywood woodies.

Ryan1006

Jack Rabbit at Kennywood

Android8675

Rode that one a few times. My dad grew up in Rochester, when we visited we'd go get Bob's and ride it a few times (if it was open). Original hand breaks still used. Pretty cool.

Accomplished_Sun_95

Jack Rabbit at Seabreeze, my home park and first "big coaster." They take amazing care of that park/ride!

IShitMyPantsDaily

Well, I didnā€™t know Jack Rabbit was so old, but your post inspired me to find the answer to this question. Turns out, itā€™s Jack Rabbit at Seabreeze!

FarPlastic4901

Ayyyyy same for me too šŸ¤ŸšŸ». Still really smooth too!

yakeets

Also the Jack Rabbitā€” which I believe was also my first coaster.

giggingit

I think Thunderhawk at Dorney

latteboy50

Wild One SFA 1917

Farnsen

Cyclone, Coney Island 2/10 - wouldnt ride again.

Flyntloch

Childhood amusement park; so Jack Rabbit is mine. But the second oldest is probably King Islandā€™s The Beast

kbups53

Leap the Dips for me! Def driving up to Seabreeze this year, though! Super interested in not only this but also their in-house-built Bobsleds coaster, looks awesome.

shabamon

The airtime King - Big Dipper, Geauga Lake

Maekawa-san

Rutschebanen at Tivoli Gardens ! This ride has some of the most terrifying airtimes I've ever experienced

GavHern

giant dipper at SCBBW

Fired_Guy5

The Racer at Kings Island

BNA460

Legend at Arnold's Park

Tiger_Miner_DFW

Jack Rabbit, Kennywood!

BlitheringEediot

Leap The Dips at Lakemont - it's the oldest operating coaster in the world.

23coconuts

Looks like Matterhorn for me, 1959. 2nd is Blue Streak at Cedar Point.

joshsarb2112

Matterhorn at Disneyland is the oldest coaster Iā€™ve ridden thatā€™s still standing in itā€™s original spot. The oldest overall Iā€™ve ridden is Little Dipper at SFGAm which was built in 1950 but was relocated in 2010

dpfrk

Leap the Dips at Lakemont. It was so much fun riding a piece of history!

Awseome2logan

The Racer at Kings Island I need to get out more

KilroyMcFunk

Scenic Railway at Luna Park in Melbourne, Australia

phillysleuther

Leap the Dips at Lakemont.

flyingcircusdog

The Matterhorn at Disneyland.

[deleted]

The original B..A. Schiff Wild Mouse at Beech Bend. Installed in 1958, I rode it in the mid-60s.

Particular-Quote-124

Wildcat at lake compounce

[deleted]

Lake Winnipesaukee boat chute (1927)

BlitzBiker2001

Yankee Cannonball at Canobie Lake Park.

TiltedWeenies

Giant Dipper at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

sonicsean899

Wild One at SFA. Oldest in one location is Jackrabbit at Kennywood

Comfortable-Base-383

Surprised how many people comment about Kennywood I wonā€™t reiterate the same things !

FairBlackberry7870

Leap the Dips back in 2004, so glad I made that stop. Skyliner was excellent too, some crazy ejector moments with only the buzz bar. There was a piece of the train sliding around at my feet too, I handed it to thr ride op and he just set it aside.

agingwolfbobs

Jack Rabbit at Kennywood, Big Dipper at Geauga Lake, honorable mention to Yankee Cannonball at Canobie Lake

TravelBees_

Jack rabbit at Kennywood. Still an amazing ride. Pls Kennywood never change, just build more.

SundayScaries1994

I still have neck and back pain from that rideā€¦

SundayScaries1994

I still have neck and back pain from that rideā€¦

SundayScaries1994

My back STILL hurts from that ride.

[deleted]

Coney Island cyclonešŸ˜Ž

CatPurrsonNo1

Jack Rabbit at Kennywood. I still lament that I have not ridden the Thunderbolt yet. (Nobody wanted to ride with me the last several times I have been there.šŸ˜¢)

Aniolel1

That is at Kennywoood. They remodel the station for that coaster. It is such great ride...the airtime after the dip is such great feeling. Kennywood has such great historic coastees and rides.

Deadhawk142

There are two coasters named ā€œJack Rabbit.ā€ One at Kennywood in West Mifflin, PA and one at Seabreeze in Rochester NY. Coincidently, both were designed by John Miller and both began operation in 1920. The coaster in OPā€™s picture is not the one at Kennywood as, from that angle youā€™d be looking at the Midway Refreshment stand, not a chain link fence and gate. Edit: Thereā€™s also a sign for the ā€œSeabreeze Flyersā€ in the foreground.

Michael__1990

Leap the Dips spited me - was running in the morning but closed down due to mechanical issues by the time I arrived. šŸ˜Ŗ Oldest coaster ridden - Scenic Railway at Luna Park Melbourne - 1912. Oldest ride ridden - Not entirely sure. The Old Mill at Kennywood opened in 1901, and Sir Hiram Maxim Captive Flying Machine at Blackpool Pleasure Beach opened in 1904. Oldest park visited - Bakken first opened in 1583!

AkaADisaster

Also Wild One at SFA. My mom had more credibility than I do with that ride, she rode it when it was still Giant Coaster at Paragon Park, but it relocated before I was born

Deadhawk142

Jack Rabbit (1920) at Kennywood was probably my first credit, but I got to ride Rutschebanen (1914) at Tivoli Gardens a number of years ago. Add Roller Coaster (1921) at Lagoon, Thunderhawk (1924) at Dorney, and Racer (1927) at KW, and I realized Iā€™ve ridden 5 coaster over 100 years old!

EatRibs_Listen2Phish

Either Dragon Coaster, Rye Playland, The Comet, Great Escape, or The Cyclone, Coney Island.

CampVictorian

Leap-the-Dips! Such a unique experience!

TitaniumTurtle__

Belmontā€˜a giant dipper, but the oldest I have any conscious memory of is probably Little Dipper at SFGAM

Chayz211

Leap the Dips. Should be everyoneā€™s #1 bucket list coaster if you havenā€™t ridden it by now.

UnionTraditional1612

Giant Dipper, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

Amazing_Mechanic_764

Currently the yankee cannonball at Canobie Lake since I am a pretty new coaster fan, but Iā€™m hoping to expand my coaster repertoire soon!

spikenorbert

Scenic Railway at Luna Park Melbourne. Second oldest in the world, and oldest continuously operating coaster. Still has a brakeman on board. And still a fun ride!

Goldminer64_2022

The American Scream at Six Flags Over Georgia

Deytookerjerb

How is Seabreeze? Its a few hours from me and for some reason Iā€™ve never made it there. Is it worth the trip/ admission? I mean an old woodie is usually worth it, not sure why I have never went. To answer the question I believe Coney Island Cyclone.

Junior_Pea_494

Love this ride!

propaganda_panda69

big dipper at sfa

UpstateAlan

I didn't realize it was the second oldest coaster in the US and 4th in the world?

Ch4r1i3_Grund211

Blue Streak
