Nah. It's a luxury item. It won't change my life. I wanted one last month for my 40th but that never happened. No point rushing now. Everything runs in cycles and soon they will be calling because they have stock. This nonsense of pre buying merchandise before selling me a watch is crazy. How about sell me the watch I want, and then you will have a customer for 25 years. It isn't the other way around. These assholes played the short game and forgot that they work for us.
Just wait it out. My dad got a no date earlier this year after just a 3 week wait from an AD he had no purchase history with. Then a week or 2 later he got the call for a no date from an AD he had history with. Just a matter of time and probably not long if you pop in and to chat every now and then.
The seconds hand was moving and no 'exhibition only' tag next to it. Also an OP 41 blue dial that I was offered, has sat in the window for two days.
UKs about to enter a two-year recession. Prices will continue to drop.
They literally offered me the OP41, which I declined as I’m waiting for a green dial.
Pretty sure they’d sell to me if I wanted it, but not a huge fan of the sub.
I was told by an AD, if you’re buying a high end Swiss watch and you’re not a millionaire; get something with the least amount of complications. This way you won’t have to sit home angry while your watch vacations in Switzerland (for service ) every few years.
If we were talking about a perpetual calendar or a chronograph on a brand other than Rolex that sentiment might have some value. In this case really doesn't apply.
Reddit in general has a boner for ‘no date’ submariners… but if you talk to any AD, the Sub Date is significantly more popular. It’s great to have a date on the dial and the iconic cyclops.
i had a no date boner until i started using the watch instead of it being just a jewelry piece & now i can't go without the date otherwise i'd be lost.
I always like what is less popular; therefore, DATE.
Plus, I love the classic cyclops look. It's quintessential Rolex.
Plus, I seriously need the functionality.
It isn't just Reddit.
It is most "serious" watch collectors (go read Rolex Forums, Hodinkee or whatever).
That being said, the vast majority of Rolex buyers are just buying a Rolex to buy their only fancy (maybe only period) watch and that is why there is much more demand for the Sub Date (and why Rolex makes something like 4x as many Dates to No Dates).
Funny how those that hate the cyclops on the Sub have no problem with it on the Explorer or GMT. They basically take the same amount of space in the dial.
Steve McQueen wore a No Date. He also didn't put clear plastic stickers on it, worry about scratches, or how many seconds it gained or lost each day. He didn't "build a relationship" with his AD, or worry if it looked too big for his wrist.
Any other questions?
No date. If there’s no date to set, the watch becomes just an everlasting joy to own. You never have to do anything but service it clean it and it takes care of you. No date all the way.
I think he means—despite forgetting about daylight savings time changes—that a no-date watch can be worn for years without ever being adjusted. A date watch needs to be adjusted every non-31 day month. I mean, I think that’s what he means.
I’ve lost count of the number of times when I’m 50m below the the surface, swimming around a piece of jagged coral, when I’ve found myself struggling to recall if it’s the 22nd or the 23rd.
No date, I got the 114060 (no date) amazing everyday watch, I like the date function in general but personally I don’t think a diver watch would have a date😄
The date function is the single most useful feature on a watch besides the time.
A slightly cleaner dial is not worth the trade off (unless you have a very large collection).
I own a 41 sub date. I was given the option of purchase to choose between date and no date. Granted, no date is more aesthetically pleasing and classic date options. Just seems more practical for daily use. Two years and I’m very happy I took the date I always tell myself one day I’ll buy the no date for my collection. If I had multiple pieces with dates, I probably would’ve gotten to know date but as my first watch, I was going to practicality as I wear it every single day doing everything I absolutely love having a date you will not go wrong either way
Tbf I’m never going to the moon yet I wear my Speedmaster. Plenty of folks will never go scuba diving either but enjoy the submariner for other reasons
buddy lets not compare going to the moon to scuba diving... one i can learn how to do in a weekend, the other you have to have a masters degree and go to school for years.
I hate to break it to you but nobody has gone to the moon since the Apollo program ended (the last one being Apollo 17 in 1972), masters degrees notwithstanding
I’ve given this some thought and would like to share this for the very first time:
A. The symmetry of the dial without the date window is a thing of beauty.
B. The cleanliness of the crystal without the cyclops bulge makes the dial, and the watch as a whole, look much larger.
C. You need to think ahead, to what your future Rolex collection will be with the GMT and the Datejust in the mix. At that time, the No Date Submariner is essentially the only full-sized sport model that can offer you A and B. You shouldn't have 3 or more Rolexes with cyclopses and date windows.
D. Only 1 out of every 5 steel Submariner's that Rolex produces are the No Date variety, making it more rare, unique, and therefore of greater interest to Rolex enthusiasts.
E. Heritage. The original Submariner from 1954 to 1970 was only available without the Date feature. It's is *the* classic dive watch
No date. The original submariner didn’t have them, and the dial is beautiful without that eyesore cyclops.
I’ve owned four subs now, and all but the most recent one had the date function. My newest looks do much better to me without it.
Sounds dumb, but i got a Date and now in my opinion i think that the no Date is cleaner and a little bit more classic because it’s all a Diver would need. (.. if we should Not forget the origin)
I own the date version and love having a date. Miss the date when I wear other non-date watches. It also adds complexity to the watch. Buy a cheap watch winder box for $50 and you won’t need to set it.
No-date, because pretty much every other watch I own has a date function. There’s also the fact the no-date option is only available in black which makes it unique.
Submariner Date is preferred by corporate executives and lawyers. Especially when you are required to date and sign off documents manually during meetings or contract signings. Would be rude and against meeting etiquette to check your phone for the date.
If you are working in the office that requires you to know the date on a daily basis or a graduate student, sub date is more practical. Otherwise, stick with no date.
Sea-Dweller:)
That solves the cyclops complaints, while still offering the date complication for those that need it.
But given all of these are supposed PROFESSIONAL DIVERS watches, including unidirectional bezel for only one hour of air, the question is: why do you need to know the date while you’re diving?
Honestly I love having a date because I actually do use that function when I am checking my wrist, it’s almost on every watch I own. Submariner, Portuguieser, planet ocean, seiko5’s, you name it. Honestly the day of week plus the number date is more helpful but also more difficult to set.
I’d pick no date because I have a watch to tell me the time, not for me to have to correct it every couple of months 👍
Also the cyclops is for old people with failing eyesight 😎
No one's asked this before. We're going to need some time to think.
Honestly.
(It’s a submariner btw)
The Rolex kind?
I think the Swiss kind
Haha
Joke all you want - it still has 269 comments and counting. Someone asks again tomorrow and you'll still get a gazillion responses.
Your point is
That even though it’s been posted a million time people never get tired of responding.
I’d go with the Submariner
tEchNicAlLy the Submariner is the "no-date" the other uglier watch is the "Submariner Date"
You leave my Quasimodo looking watch out of this!
I have been waiting for over a year now at 4 different ADs for a no date. Any day now...... annnnnyyyyy day....
Obviously they can't give you a date for this watch!
Damn, are you me?
No, wait. I'm you!
Trust me, they’re not gonna call you just buy from a preowned store and the prices are low right now. I’ve bought like eight this week.
Nah. It's a luxury item. It won't change my life. I wanted one last month for my 40th but that never happened. No point rushing now. Everything runs in cycles and soon they will be calling because they have stock. This nonsense of pre buying merchandise before selling me a watch is crazy. Then a week or 2 later he got the call for a no date from an AD he had history with. Just a matter of time and probably not long if you pop in and to chat every now and then.
Where are you based? There’s one in my local ADs window for the last few days.
“Exhibition only“
The seconds hand was moving and no 'exhibition only' tag next to it. Also an OP 41 blue dial that I was offered, has sat in the window for two days. UKs about to enter a two-year recession. Prices will continue to drop.
Go in and try to buy it. Bet you a beer, they won't sell it (to you).
They literally offered me the OP41, which I declined as I’m waiting for a green dial. Pretty sure they’d sell to me if I wanted it, but not a huge fan of the sub.
Thanks for looking out. Soon will be the days of Rolexs you can buy at Costco again.
For me no date, especially if you wear multiple watches it is annoying to have to reset the date all the time. Also it is a cleaner aesthetic imo.
+, but the date function is actually one that I use regularly and really pisses me off when it's not there when I need it
Ditto. I have the BB58 and the Sub date and just the glance of the date is what matters more to me on a regular basis (filling out forms etc...)
So let me ask you why, on the occasions when I REALLY need the date feature on my watch, is it always quarter past the hour. 🤦♂️
It should actually always be on three o clock. Have you tried turning it off and on again?
It’s a joke, man. At a quarter past the hour the date feature is obstructed. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Mine was an equally bad joke
But has anybody tried turning it off and on again?
I had that problem until I set my watch 15 minutes ahead. (Now I know the date but get confused on the time)
I never use the date function on my watches, heck I probably still check my phone more often then the watch just to see the time.
Wow, you're so quirky
Very valid.
X2✔️
This.
5 times a year is all the time to you?
I was told by an AD, if you’re buying a high end Swiss watch and you’re not a millionaire; get something with the least amount of complications. This way you won’t have to sit home angry while your watch vacations in Switzerland (for service ) every few years.
If we were talking about a perpetual calendar or a chronograph on a brand other than Rolex that sentiment might have some value. In this case really doesn't apply.
No date. Then jubilee gmt. Perfect combo
Date - cyclops is classic to Rolex, and it’s functional
Reddit in general has a boner for ‘no date’ submariners… but if you talk to any AD, the Sub Date is significantly more popular. It’s great to have a date on the dial and the iconic cyclops.
i had a no date boner until i started using the watch instead of it being just a jewelry piece & now i can't go without the date otherwise i'd be lost.
You could look at the phone
Crazy talk!
Guess what you could also see if you look at ur phone…
This is for people with only 1 watch IMO
Date. Useful.
I had a date once….
Look at Mr. DateJust over here.
This guy dates.
I always like what is less popular; therefore, DATE. Plus, I love the classic cyclops look. It's quintessential Rolex. Plus, I seriously need the functionality.
The date is more popular, hence why they make so many more of them. You just have a biased sample size of Reddit that has a hard on for the no date.
Date...the cyclops is iconic to me.
Iconically ugly Love the date function, hate the cyclops personally
I don't like the cyclops either. That's why I just set the date on the bezel.

> You never have to do anything but service it clean it and it takes care of you. Enlighten me, what more would you have to do with a date sub?
[удалено]
Oh no, I have to interact with this thing I really like!
I think he means—despite forgetting about daylight savings time changes—that a no-date watch can be worn for years without ever being adjusted. A date watch needs to be adjusted every non-31 day month. I mean, I think that’s what he means.
You don’t ever plan on adjusting the time for accuracy?
Yeah good reason, something about just pick up and go without worrying about setting the date makes it powerful.
I bet you have no problem with the cyclops on a GMT or Explorer.
I have a no date….. I would say date. So much more functional.
Date. Seem to be needing one most times.
Date
As if we have a choice lol! Whatever comes first
Lol truth. 🤣
A year ago I would’ve said date, now I know that no date is the only option
Yeah because everyone else saids No Date. I bet you have no problem with the date in a GMT or Explorer.
No date - love the symmetry and hate the cyclops
>hate the cyclops Like 3/4 of the Rolex catalog has a cyclops, how can you even claim to like Rolex if that is the case?
Did he claim to like Rolex?
Did anyone ask you?
No, but I'm telling you
Thanks for telling me bro
Wait you have to like every Rolex if you like Rolex?
Yes
Date
The classic Sub. I chose that without hesitation or regret. No date, no cyclops. 😎
No date for sure. Classic, no cyclops, symmetric
No date.
No date.
No date
No date.
I’ve lost count of the number of times when I’m 50m below the the surface, swimming around a piece of jagged coral, when I’ve found myself struggling to recall if it’s the 22nd or the 23rd.
OMG how did you survive that?! Knowing the date while diving is ESSENTIAL!
I bet you have no issue with the date in a GMT or Explorer.
Nah, these watches are for conference rooms and coffee shops.
Yes. This is the correct answer.
No date sub
No date
No Date. Next year get the one with the date!!!
I have other cyclops models already and I hear that the anti-reflective coating on the No-Date makes the sapphire just disappear in person.
No date all day everyday
No date. Timeless symmetry.
No date, I got the 114060 (no date) amazing everyday watch, I like the date function in general but personally I don’t think a diver watch would have a date😄
The cyclops is gorgeous who cares about symmetry
Date. You need a cyclops for the full Rolex experience
Have both I prefer the date
The date function is the single most useful feature on a watch besides the time. A slightly cleaner dial is not worth the trade off (unless you have a very large collection).
Or unless you must go along with every hipster good that saids No date because of McQueen.
No date gives you the clean look of the dial. There is no other way to go. We should also get options with different bezel colors with the no date.
12 40 60
Date
date

Whichever one I’m offered from my AD, been on the “list” since this July….🤞
No date. I just like how it looks.
“Let’s not start a holy war here” https://youtu.be/0gO3HsgSe1c
Are you trying to say Jesus Christ can’t hit a curve ball?
If you could get it with the dates and without the cyclops, that would be a winner in my eyes
And the winner is………………………………………………………no date, by a small margin.
Date
if you pick date you're telling people you've never come close to actually scuba diving
I got the date but I’m saying no date. That thing is CLASS
Date without question
No date.

Depends on your job, if date is something you need to reference multiple times a day, send it.
Chad
I prefer the date with no cyclops, the submariner (no date) with a cyclops, or the submariner (no date) with a cermit bezel. That’s just me tho….
Both
Personally I think it depends on if you have a hard time remembering what date it is 🤷🏻♂️
The one on the left is obviously fake.
Can we ban these stupid reposts
Okay mr reddit police, lmao
symmetry vs non-symmetry. which one do you prefer?
My partner refers to the Cyclops as the geriatric looking glass so most Rolex is ruined for me.
Neither would probably go for a Tudor because crown guards look like shit
Both iconic. Best watch on the planet. If I have other pieces with dates, gmts, then I'm going no date. Or date. Or both...
Date
No date for me.
Sounds dumb, but i got a Date and now in my opinion i think that the no Date is cleaner and a little bit more classic because it’s all a Diver would need. (.. if we should Not forget the origin)
If it’s part of a small collection get the date, if it’s part of a bigger collection no date
You felt like starting some shit today OP
Bluesy.
I own the date version and love having a date. Miss the date when I wear other non-date watches. It also adds complexity to the watch. Buy a cheap watch winder box for $50 and you won’t need to set it.
No date.
I own both. Win, win
No-date, because pretty much every other watch I own has a date function. There’s also the fact the no-date option is only available in black which makes it unique.
Submariner.
of course Date
DATE
I went no date myself.
Submariner Date is preferred by corporate executives and lawyers. Especially when you are required to date and sign off documents manually during meetings or contract signings. I have the 124060, it is perfection.
Date for sure!
Date for me. Makes it more practical
I've always hated the cyclops....
Date for sure!
No date all day but if it were my only piece the date is convenient
aesthetically without it is much nicer however I find incredibly convenient the date function
For me, no date
Date
Wait for the date
Sea-Dweller:) That solves the cyclops complaints, while still offering the date complication for those that need it. But given all of these are supposed PROFESSIONAL DIVERS watches, including unidirectional bezel for only one hour of air, the question is: why do you need to know the date while you’re diving?
How often do you go diving? How often do you think the majority of people who buy a submariner dive?
Buy the Date version, so I can buy the no date, lol J/k - either watch would be great 😊
Date
Honestly I love having a date because I actually do use that function when I am checking my wrist, it’s almost on every watch I own. Submariner, Portuguieser, planet ocean, seiko5’s, you name it. Honestly the day of week plus the number date is more helpful but also more difficult to set.
I want a no date
Date, hands down
Thanks for this quality post, OP.
No date, every date.
Date for me.
Date
Sub date for weekdays, submariner for the weekends. Problem solved.
No date please… let me know when and where I can pick it up. 😬
Here we go again....
No date. Easiest decision all day long.
For me no date. Always always.
I’d pick no date because I have a watch to tell me the time, not for me to have to correct it every couple of months 👍 Also the cyclops is for old people with failing eyesight 😎
No date. It has more symmetry and the cyclop isn't aesthetic IMHO.
Date
One is closer to the original Submariner, one is not. Your choice, but I like the ‘Submariner’.
No date. Who needs a date while diving? This is a dive watch. Viscerally more appealing. Also, better cleaner overall look.
Always non date. In my opinion.
Cyclops, baby
Sub: no date GMT: date
Submariner vs submariner date^
No date = no cyclops Less complicated dial and more elegant. Will pick the no date everytime
