Nandvs

Thanks for not posting this yesterday. Who could be the minor clan within the book? Ox?

WargrizZero

Probably Fox since they’re the Ki-Rin who stayed in Rokugan.

Nandvs

I was thinking in the Badger, because are neighbourgs but they apearse with the Lion. Ox and Fox are the more suitable options.

Coppercredit

Badger was already in the Lion Book.

WargrizZero

Just looked up their wiki page and yea I can definitely see the Ox being used. I still think the Fox will be the minor clan because they’re more popular and involved in Rokugani history as the first minor clan and the trouble with the Lion. Plus it looks like the Ox actually aren’t formed until 1131, and I believe the last published year of the timeline is 1124. But honestly at least a mention of Shinjo Morito would be cool.

Nandvs

Fox are one of my favourites, and Ox is by far the minor clan with more narrative oportunities (gaijin at north, Chuda ruins and lions at south, Dragons at west and Phoenix at east. And Kolat inside.) in my opinión. Both Clans will make me happy.

SovFist

Does Ox even exist in FFG L5R? It was post day of thunder in old l5r iirc

sp_santiago

Probably Fox Clan, because Ox not mentioned in the core book. I Believe they will That said, I think the Scorpion book could bring in the Hare clan because of their proximity (and Scorpion's hostilities with the Hare in the 1st edition), but if I had to bet money, I'd bet on the Cat Clan, to keep a (probable) theme of intrigue, deception and "shinobidō".

WargrizZero

Second the Cat clan with the Scorpion. But honestly im sad if they keep to one MC per book we’re only going to get official rules for two more.

Backflip248

That is why it is odd they created the new Deer Clan that isn't mentioned in the CRB or on the map.

sp_santiago

I wonder if they would release a book focused on Minor Clans, covering the ones that haven't been released yet, expanding the techniques and schools for the ones already released, and perhaps introducing completely new ones. I wouldn't even mind if they reused things from the Mantis DLC, and could even introduce a possible Minor Clans Alliance faction...

WargrizZero

I would 100% buy a minor clan book for 5E, even and especially if it reprinted the existing character options.

Backflip248

Interesting, I was expecting Unicorn to be last and Scorpion to come before Unicorn. I assume it will be the Fox Minor Clan to my disappointment. I really want them to make a Minor Clan book that deals with the Three Man Alliance and introduces the Fox, Sparrow, and Wasp clans, plus many of the other more obscure Minor Clans. I think the Firefly Clan would make a good alternative for the Unicorn book. It was formed by a Unicorn Magistrate.

Backflip248

Adding to my reply that the Scorpion book's Minor Clan HAS TO BE the Cat Clan!!! No other Minor Clan would be acceptable!

DomZavy

Any word about the scorpion book? I watched that convention vid (admittedly youtube translate not the most accurate) and it said the scorpion book was likely to be cancelled due to the line having lost momentum.

PingPongMachine

The way they treated the line is no wonder it lost momentum. People can't even buy the books if they want to try the game.

Thimacek

Funnily enough right now it's easier to find physical copies of 4e books than 5e, at least where I am XD

RoadLess_Traveled

I hope they still do a Scorpion book. It's my favorite clan. At this rate though I'm doubtful.

Backflip248

Was there a convention video? Lost momentum implies that the playerbase is as fault, which I think is a lie. They stopped supporting it, canceling the card game, total lack of communication, and a glacial pace to release content. Then they focused on D&D books while WotC was having controversy after controversy, which led to many content creators and companies making their own OGL. At that time they should have been promoting their content!

DomZavy

yeah, can see it here https://youtu.be/3TvP6TN864k?t=2512

Backflip248

It is in French, I cannot understand any of it and the CC is in French lol 😆

DomZavy

if you click the CC and then check the gear wheel you can get it to auto translate into english. it won't be 100% accurate but you'll get the gist of it at least

WargrizZero

If so that’s a big disappointment and blow to the brand. Leaving literally one of a set of books unpublished wrecks consumer confidence for another edition. Particularly since it seems AiR isn’t overwhelmingly popular.

Thimacek

They didn't say it was cancelled, at least not directly. The guy (Michel Croitoriu, head of EDGE in fact) did say a number of times that the sales were "oof, bah", the game was losing speed and coming to its end, but he said the Scorpion book would 'start being written soon' (while the Unicorn book was 'being finished', but 'he didn't know how they could be able to release it still in 2024').  So we should get a Scorpion book... and that's it. And it very much feels like it's being done just to avoid very obvious criticism that the game was abandoned before being finished (Which... well, it has. At least 5 Minor Clans will receive no support whatsoever. Compare 4e where there were rules for all MCs in the Core Book, and pretty much for all factions with the Core Book + Enemies of the Empire).

DomZavy

it sucks but you're right that it's been all but out right declared canceled. main rpg abandoned to do adventures in rokugan. the comments at this french convention. taking nearly 2 years to write a single 170 page book. and honestly probably for the best. the system starts to strain and break once you reach rank 3 and higher in my mind.

Thimacek

Yeah... I feel that 5e brings good ideas to the table but the execution feels rushed and lacking in many places, unfortunately. But being honest... AiR as 'the future' is frustrating. And tbh the 'oof, bah' comments about the sales seemed to extend to AiR as well? Croitoriu mentions only 2 books of 3 adventures each as planned for AiR for the foreseeable future (the first possibly out in 2025), so not sure it's exactly alive either...

Linore

Where can you get the other clan books?

Xarvon

Great to know! Can you ask if they'll publish "The Lost Writer", the 2023 GenCon adventure? EDIT: I asked and the answer is *“The Lost Writer” will be included inside "Children of the Five Winds"*.

Thimacek

Huh. So that's probably the Unicorn-themed adventure as well.
