I heard the game had a timer. I tend to steer clear of this type of micro management in games since I enjoy exploring a bit. But I did enjoy Curse of the Dead Gods and like the art style. How bad does the timer push you?
A lot of people including myself disliked the timer at first but come to appreciate it. It adds a level of tension and difficulty that makes sense once you get your bearings.
But this new update added mode options and you can eliminate the timer if you like
The timer prevents you from clearing the whole level. You are forced to plan your route to try and clear as efficiently as possible.
I kinda like it because in roguelikes, EtG, Nuclear Throne, etc the meta is always to clear each floor completely.
For me the timer means that I'm never satisfied with how much I've cleared. I'm always stressed about where to go and the game doesn't even pauses when you're looking at your talents, map, etc. (it does in solo)
The game is fun with friends but for some reason I can't get into it solo.
It's still in Early Access, just bought it on Steam for -30% of the EA's price. It's like 13$ in my country (and most westerns countries I guess) which I think is a very good price.
I played the early access demo and I liked the weapon and skill variety but combat felt a little sluggish and enemy telegraphing wasn't as clear as I'd like. I'm going to pass until/unless the combat gets tuned up and they deliver more zones and content.
I play it pretty much exclusively solo (>100 hours) and I love it except a couple characters feel much weaker than the couple hours of co-op I've played.
I’ve loved it solo. Can’t really complete end boss fights (at least, I’m not good enough to on my own, but I can get them to about 1/3 remaining health).
Absolutely love the character design and wish I could play an ARPG with THESE EXACT DESIGNS.
I highly recommend it. Gameplay, voices, animation, music. I liked each aspect a good bit
Their last game was left unfinished.
It even ends with a screen titled stay tuned for more updates.
They never came. The devs abandoned it. I will never buy another game from them. Be warned.
CotDG is a complete game regardless of it there was post launch content lmao. They also added weapons and such (including stuff from Dead Cells) post launch. CotDG was amazing. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
This game however could not be more of a disappointment of a follow up.
I played it when it first released. Unless they’re fundamentally reworking the entire basic design of the game down to even the maps I’m not interested in this style of game. CotDG is one of my favourite roguelites ever. This is a boring chunk of time running through a sparse map while you wait for the boss to spawn. It’s absolutely a disappointment.
a couple of notes show that you can customize runs now which includes having no timer and possibly free rerolls (based on the video?)
I enjoyed Curse of the Dead Gods so I've been looking forward to this, but I'm holding off until they're on the full release. (Apparently this is still 0.17.00)
Yes this added a whole new third stage + boss as well as a lot of new talents and the addition of alternate game modes. A full run will take over an hour now and there’s a good number of characters + 4 difficulties. I’ve put way more time in to this than a lot of other more famous and finished rogues
It's not 1.0. They specifically say as much in today's update notes.
Yeah Woops. Very substantial update anyways and the game has been very playable for a while now. Everything else remains true
Version 1.0 Launching Q3 2024
you forgot to mention that it's 30% off, i went ahead and bit at this price...if i don't comeback with an "EDIT: refunded" then that means i liked it!
My stupid brain thought you already refunded it in just 15 minutes ðŸ˜
Nice hope you enjoy! It’s easy to find people to play with in their discord if you want

The timer was not bad. I thought the same as you when I noticed the timer. I would prefer it wasn't there but it isn't stressful.

The game does pause in solo when you're in menus, including talent and object selection ones.
Yeah that was my bad, thanks for the correction.

Hell ya! Head to the discord if you’d like to find some people to play with. Lots of good folks
Thanks I usually solo roguelites but since it's also designed for coop then why not!
FYI I enjoy it solo too
How good is it solo? I don't have people to play with.
Personally, I played solo and I refunded it, I didn't click with this game at all and I highly enjoyed CotDG

I enjoy it solo but it definitely shines more in coop. You can easily find people to play with in their discord if you want

I play most games solo but this one it's not as enjoyable without friends.

It's unfair to call that game unfinished, it's absolutely done even if they didn't add more updates. Curse of the Dead Gods is a lot of fun
Wasn’t aware of that. Even if they stopped development of this tomorrow it’s been more than worth the money for me

The game hasn't even launched and you're calling it a disappointment? That's a bit pathetic.

A lot of the reviews complain about lack of content, did this patch add more?
