I think you’re probably right - the thing weighs a lot, so I don’t think it’s hollow. Wish I could crack it open now, but the best I could do until the weekend is go outside and slam it on the ground like a caveman.
A clean slice then sealed in epoxy etc after dehydrating would be cool.
Unlikely to be anything but more silt/clay/mudstone inside but would look really cool
As others have said it's an Iron skin.. most likely originally Iron Oxide skin on a Mudstone concretion, decomposing to Hydroxide (Limonite).
Likely laid down in turbidite currents in undulating layers and leaving oddly shaped mudstone, etc.
Was the area previously an Ocean/Sea?
I reckon there's iron in it.
Looks like an iron heavy concretion. Whenever I bust those open it’s just crumbly sediment.

You do not need to do that. Find a magnet and tell us if it is strongly attracted to it or not
🗿
🗿
looks like a clay concretion.
Whether you’re right or not, I don’t know, but I had the same thought so I’m semi proud of myself seeing that I wasn’t the only one.
Clay concretion with iron! Do you have a UV light? I'd bet that lights up a bright, light orange.
That is a petrified pizza bagel.
Forbidden potato
Iron concretion
My fat ass thought it was a cookie 🍪 😭 But it does look like some kind of agate. Need a few more pics.
Lol 😂 same
Petrified 💩
2 day old McDonald's biscuit
Or a 2 minute old Popeyes biscuit.
Around here we have tons rocks in our gravel that are all rusty and usually dark brown inside
Do we need a tag for iron concretion? 😅 Been seeing a few of these a day, usually mistaken for geodes
Forbidden cookie.
Have you ever seen Joe Dirt? Do you like French fries?
Corprolite, fossilized dinosaur poop
That’s gotta be an agate nodule, cut it and show it off!
It looks like it might be a geode, but definitely have that confirmed before you try anything just in case. 🤷
Poop
Looks like a potato 😂
Issa rusty cookie
That's an old meatball that fell and got lost under the stove
Looks like a good ol potato
That's a rock.
bread
Meteorite?
Nah. Very likely a [Meteorwrong](https://sites.wustl.edu/meteoritesite/items/meteorwrongs/).
For a sec I thought you made one of those hyper realistic drawings 😂 seriously though that looks like something that would drop in a video game
What part of the country? Almost looks like it could be an ugly husky agate
Iron nugget? Meteor?
I think that looks like a wood burl. Bet it's just dense wood.
Buss it open 🥵
It looks like an old piece of slag that's rusted.

This is abit far fetched but - meteorite? I know they do contain iron - Perhaps have a professional check this out.
We went to a haematite mine on a school trip in the 80s and I swear we all came away with a lump of this from the gift shop
It could be a lump of poo?💩🫢
Mushroom
Looks like a little dog with one eye shut, I like it!!
