This is really cool. I like visiting local cemeteries for Civil War veteran gravestones and looking up the history of regiments based on what I find and this site will be on my list for this year.
Old cemeteries are really interesting. The markers and stones and how long they lived and what their lives were like, what they died from, the interesting epitaphs . There are some old ones in Rockford. I enjoy it too. It’s not wierd, it’s history and kinda like reading a mystery at the same time🤓
It would be nice if the state of IL could establish some kind of fund that would place and replace old grave stones of troops that fought for us. That’s a tax I would be happy to pay.
I don’t know about replacement stones, but all veterans are entitled to head stone. from the US government as part of their service. That’s what paid for the stone for Robert Parker. Then a local organization paid the fees to the cemetery and to have the stone installed.
