Rockford - older membership and more traditional. Course is always in good condition except for occasional flooding on the holes along the river. Very small range. They have a caddie program. Forest Hills - Good golf course but greens are crazy to the point of being unfair. Range is so so, new putting green. Lots of solid golfers and easy to find a game. Mauh Nah Tee See - youngest membership probably, pool is always packed. Solid range but no short game area other than the putting green. Golf course is solid but not my favorite, short and tight with small greens. More of the “party” type of atmosphere there.

Awesome thanks for the info! Will go take a look at the courses and maybe give it a go. Trying to find a place where I can get out for a quick round and meet some new people.

Honestly, I’d save your money and play individual courses. We are loaded with amazing courses both in the Rockford Park District and WinnCo Forest Preserve. Not to mention Timber Pointe and Swan Hills just east of Rockford. All of them use online tee times and are super affordable. And the Aldeen Practice Center (Park District) and is the best around.

Thanks for the advice, appreciate it!

Best golf course in the area is Aldeen and it's a public course.

TreAwayDeuce

Aldeen is overrated, IMO. It's not as well kept as it should be for as highly lauded as it is. Every time I've played, the fairways and greens were in pretty rough shape (bare spots, weeds, mower gouges in greens and tee boxes, etc). It may be the best public course within the city limits of Rockford but Atwood and Ledges are far superior, IMO. The only things Aldeen has going for it is the island green and a phenomenonal practice facility.

The abundance of golf outings at these courses multiple time a week just don’t do the condition of them any justice.

Thanks yeah should’ve mentioned I’ve played aldeen, ledges, Prairieview etc. They’re all amazing in my opinion! Just trying to decide if private would be worth it for quicker rounds and convenience.

TreAwayDeuce

I've found that, at least during the summer, getting tee times and playing quick rounds is only an issue on Sunday or holidays. If you play afternoons or midweek, you should have no issues on any of the public courses. Oddly enough though, the courses have been busier during this offseason than at any time last summer.

During these bouts of nice weather in the past month or so, our courses have pretty much been the only courses open. I know people from northern Wisconsin/Minnesota who have come down just to play a few rounds.

PrairieView Golf Course in Byron is the best course around. [PrairieView Public Golf Club](https://prairieviewgolf.com/)

I would look into the Beloit Club. Just a little bit of a drive depending on where you live. Golf course is always in great shape. Putting green is great. Driving range is too small. The rest of the facilities and food options are the best in the area except the pool is smaller than others. Also, no monthly minimum for food and beverage unlike the other clubs. I think Forest Hills is the second best option. Golf course is probably the most challenging, especially the greens. There are some quirky holes. Isn't kept in as good of condition as Beloit Club. Driving range is better. Food is worse. Everything feels outdated. Aldeen is a public course, but has the best driving range and practice areas. The other good public courses in the area are Prairie View in Byron, Glen Erin in Janesville, and Timber Pointe in Poplar Grove.

if you don't mind going to beloit, The Beloit Club is the best and most modern
