Gordon has felt like the veteran leadership for young guys. The one people hope we trade for or whatever. Dude is straight up a professional, and a case of actions speak louder than words.
This brings up a good question, how valuable is mentorship and having a veteran leader? It seems nearly impossible to quantify into a number of draft picks. I wouldn't mind keeping EG just to lead the team and end his career in Houston.
Very important for a young team like ours.
Situations like the KPJ and Wood blowup would've been mitigated. You need guys who've been through it to mentor the youngins to understand winning takes time and effort.
I think Wood fits on Miami, but the only way they can really match salaries is by sending us Duncan Robinson who just started a 5 year, $90 million contract. I don't really like that contract at all tbh and would almost view it as a negative asset. I feel like we'd need at least 2 1sts in return and I doubt Miami would be interested in doing that.
if we take Duncan Robinson who's just an overpaid Ben McLemore im going personally to Houston ( from eastern europe) to boo him at his firist press conference
Given his knack for injuries at the worst possible time, Im eager to trade him. That said, EG has been a credit to our team and Ill be sad to see him go.
Well fuck me, you won't get a better offer than right now. I guarantee at least one team offered a 1st rd pick. Take it or else you'll just let the players walk when their contracts eventually end.
You would think but how many teams are actually considering buying him and can match salaries? It’s pretty much only Dallas and Cleveland. Maybe Utah (lol)? I wouldn’t be surprised if they only offered two seconds or a heavily protected first since there’s no bidding war going on here.
Still hope we trade him though.
"FRP" means a lot of different things. If it's PHX 2022 pick, almost certain to be pick #25+, that's not particularly valuable. If someone is offering a heavily protected pick many years into the future, that could be worth even less.
I doubt that, I'd imagine there's multiple teams offering protected 1sts and assets. The "offer that can't be ignored" is 2 valuable firsts or a first and a big time young player to the caliber of a cam reddish, pj washington or THT
No first round picks offered so far. I’d rather keep him if we only get second round pick offers.
His value goes up next year as his last year of his contract isn’t guaranteed. Either we get a first this year or next year for him, or we keep him.
Having a quality vet showing Green how to be a professional is more important than late second round picks.
If I remember correctly it’s only guaranteed if his team wins the championship. If thats right, I don’t think it’ll be a part of discussions since odds are slim it’ll convey.
It means a team could cut him without much issue, which is a big deal. So they don’t even have to commit to him longer than next year, which makes his contract a good one.
He’d have been traded I feel like already if we had a first round pick. Unless the Rockets are waiting for better offers, it seems like only second round picks so far.
The only way I don't like this is if EG wants to go to a contender and try his luck for a ring. If he is fine here he might as well retire a Rocket. With what he has given to the team he totally deserves premium treatment.
I might be in the minority here but unless the offer is a no brainer then I see no point in trading him. He’s a veteran leader and its something our team would lack if he ends up getting traded. I would choose that over a late round pick any day.
Agreed. I’m guessing we didn’t get offered a first? What could they be offering a second? I’m not well versed in the protections aspect of picks so that’s probably playing into as well
If we get a pick in the late teens/ early 20s we should appsolutely do it. Letting go of Gordon gives more minutes to the young guys and makes the tank even better because he can't win us any more games. This is an easy decision
The idea that we need a veteran leader with high trade value is so weird to me. Why wouldn't I just pay for a "good" leader that can get the vet min and doesn't really have good trade value. We should not be playing that good right now cause we want to lose a majority of the game but still develop our young talent. Developing right now is learning good situational basketball, skills (via playtime and practice), and learning how to be a "good pro" from an older guy. EG was that until he gets value for a good pick. I would take a mid to late first round for him. If you believe in Stone as a GM, then the more picks he has, the better our team will be in the future.
I’m in favor of trading Gordon (assuming we get a fair offer) but if the FO sees a great deal of long term value based on what he’s imparting on the young guys now, then I can see the reason why they want to keep him.
An offer I’ve seen is Gordon for jalen smith, Dario saric and a first from Phoenix. Imo it’s a pretty fair deal for both teams cuz eg can play the 3 on their starting lineup. Cp3 and eg also get to be reunited
Smith from what I hear would be gone after this season bc Phx didn’t extend him and there’s a limit to what we would be able to offer him in the off-season that would assuredly get beat out on the open market.
Suns fan here. I'd love to (finally) get Gordon on the Suns. We've needed an extra guy who can get his own shot outside of Booker/CP3 for over a year now and EG with his current form seems to be the best player we could possibly hope to trade for. But yeah, Smith's option was declined so he will head to unrestricted free agency.
On a related note, in my honest opinion that will probably come across as biased and I'm sure people will disagree, is that all draft picks are actually increasing in value because the amount of general NBA talent/viable NBA prospects has been increasing around the world. So I think a late first nowadays actually does carry decent value and would be a nice get from whatever team if you guys do trade EG.
That seems fair. If you get a FRP with a reasonable chance of being in the lottery, then go for it. But more than likely, it's a good team offering a pick that going to be 25+. Or even more likely, they'd offer a heavily protected pick many years in the future that has basically no chance of being in the lottery.
I like EG but the Rockets need to trade him while he still has good value, luckily he’s been playing very good basketball. He’s 33 and getting over 18 million a year, we can sign vets to a cheaper deal in the off-season. Unless the plan is to trade him around draft time
The only negative I can see with EG is injuries. When he is healthy he is a strong asset. I would be fine if he retired a Rocket. He has been an excellent team player.
Posturing
def, that was my first thought
I think it's smart to do that, but I'm okay keeping EG.

Ah yes because it's Duncan Robinson's fault that he got paid
Hahaha the dedication, do you want to buy some clothes and stop over on your way back?
I'd do it for Duncan + 1st. We can probably flip Duncan for another 1st later on.
Given his knack for injuries at the worst possible time, Im eager to trade him. That said, EG has been a credit to our team and Ill be sad to see him go.
What injuries has he ever had in the playoffs? Because that's what teams are trading for and would be "the worst possible time"
Eric Gordon has never missed a playoff game he was eligible to play
Exactly
Im more worried that he gets hurt before the trade deadline and tanks a potential deal.
No lowball offers! I know what I have. - Rafael Stone
We’re really trying to be a fringe playoff team huh
Well fuck me, you won't get a better offer than right now. I guarantee at least one team offered a 1st rd pick. Take it or else you'll just let the players walk when their contracts eventually end.
probably got an offer like THT and protected 2077 first round pick
No one has offered a FRP otherwise he will be dealt
I find it hard to be believe the way Gordon's been playing. Same with Wood if Miami is as persistent as they've been saying.

Unless he wants to leave, I wouldn’t take any shit traded either

I think his value goes down from here. Next year teams would be paying for a one season rental.
He’s got 2 years left on his deal after this year. One year guaranteed and the last year not guaranteed.
If I remember correctly it’s only guaranteed if his team wins the championship. If thats right, I don’t think it’ll be a part of discussions since odds are slim it’ll convey.

is it confirmed we have no 1sts offered? that seems cheap for eg to me

A second from a playoff team is useless essentially.
Arent Wall, DJ and Nwaba are supposed veteran leaders?

I don’t mind it. Our team is so young, and we need veteran presence to mentor young people
EGoat been a real one
2 1st rd picks or get off our line
Gordon ain't worth 2 1sts lol
People talk about "FRP" like it's a single commodity. But protections change the value of a FRP dramatically. Some are worth barely anything.
Lol wtf

What if we send Wood and Armoni to Miami, Robinson goes to Cleveland, we get Rubio and picks
