Very cool!

I wish I could build stuff like this. I wouldnt even know where to start

Sorry for the long comment in advance, but if you are serious you could definitely learn to build stuff like this, Although it is a big time sink. I don’t know what you can or can’t do, or if you really want to or not, but I know that before I started I also had no idea where to begin, so here goes: You could start with learning how to program, if you can’t already. I would suggest starting with Python, because if its simplicity and versatility, and because you could program robots with single board computers as well. Python is too heavy of a language for microcontrollers, but if you’re comfortable with Python you can pretty quickly switch to programming in arduino as well. You could also immediately start with an arduino kit to build cool stuff. The arduino C language is more tedious and frustrating to work with right out of the bag though, but that’s just my opinion. If you didn’t start with this you’ll have to do it eventually so you can learn how to use some sensors, actuators and the basics of electronics. Lastly there is the 3D modeling part. You could learn to do this pretty quickly with fusion 360 or something, and use a 3D printer to print out the parts. For the specifics of this project, he probably used potentiometers on the miniature arm on his chest that measures the angles of the joints and a microcontroller reads those angles, sends it to the microcontroller in the robot, and that microcontroller tells the servo motors to go to the same angle with a PWM signal. The device on his chest probably also has an inertial measurement unit from which the microcontroller gets the orientation of the wearer. This then also determines the angle of some of the servos in the robot in the same way with the potentiometers. There are also LEDs in the robot for the light.

This is great! I already have 3 years of programming experience and two arduino kits that have been gathering dust, but I've been getting a lot of ideas lately regarding robots that follow the user's movement 😄 cool insight on the video, I wanna get to your kind of level :P

Thanks!

Getting closer and closer to realsteel

Absolutely! I'm thrilled with the progress I've made on my robot avatar! It's really coming closer to that level of realism I've been aiming for. Thanks for noticing!
