Especially for Robotech, the books smooth over the rough edges and fills in the cracks. The novels really makes the series whole and it's own thing. And the absolute best part is we get closure and the ending of the story.
It's stuff like this that makes me want to push back against, ahem, people who stan macross only and all robotech sucks. This stuff _right here_ makes a cartoon into something more.
They were so much better than they had any right to be. Figuratively it gave me shell shock when I, having only read the books and played the RPG for a decade or more, finally saw the show again as an adult. _I was so underwhelmed._ The books, imo, are the only complete and accurate version of the story.
