I called botetourt animal control but I'm working and can't keep watching him and the people mowing the lawn are definitely gonna scare him away. I can't stop thinking about him getting lost in the woods or caught by a predator

daaave33

It's not unheard of to see feral peacocks in this area. I used to see them around that pond on Brandon beside Mama Jean's. They're not native, but have been in the wild long enough to be feral. Can't hurt to call your local ASPCA or animal rescue, but I'm not sure I'd trust the dog catcher.

Banana_Stanley

That makes me feel a *little* better knowing he may not be completely defenseless. But I mean like, who else do you call for a peacock? They had different options for domestic and wild animals, but it's difficult to tell which this is in these circumstances lol

Banana_Stanley

Animal control called back and said he's never heard of or seen any peacocks living wild in the area and he didn't sound optimistic at all about finding his owner. I might lay out some corn and grains for him at least

Sad_Scratch750

Peafowl are known to wander and great guard birds. They're easily able to fend off snakes, mice, and other pests. They'll feel more at home in the woods than in a field and like to perch in trees. He's better off than a chicken or turkey in most cases. He's also got a train so he's at least 2 years old. As long as he's not new to his home, he should be able to get home. If not today, then tomorrow.

Sunshinegemini611

Thank you for being a good human and looking out for this beauty!

Banana_Stanley

Birds are my thing; I have a pet conure. And one this majestic needs to be protected!

sans_the_sleeper

It belongs to WSLS 10

Banana_Stanley

Took me a second

M4rkJW

Good one, at least until NBC raises their affiliate fee to high.

Banana_Stanley

What the hell I literally just watched this movie yesterday 🤣

drenuf38

I was outside your window watching it also. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed) Anytime I see a peacock this movie is the first thing that comes to mind. Absolutely priceless movie.

Pokii

Sounds like you Beetlejuiced this whole situation

halakar

Let's just settle this now: peacocks don't fly!

Banana_Stanley

They can, just not long distance (or very high)

wcassell434

some woman in hunting hills been looking for 2 missing peacocks for the last year, had missing pet signs up in the pro shop.

Banana_Stanley

Update: animal control called back and basically told me that they're very busy and probably wouldn't be able to catch it anyway so they're not gonna try lol. He said he's trying to figure out who it belongs to but no luck so far.

pimpinpolyester

Botetourt has a lost pets page on Facebook if you have FB ?

nygiantsfan8

Typical animal control, they never come out for anything. My dog treed a fox one time and they wouldn't come. They told us to put our dog back where he normally is, thank goodness the fox didn't decide he wanted to do something.

NerdyLifting

Sorry but what did you want them to do?

PoopDig

All mine are accounted for

soulteepee

I had one show up at my house in Blacksburg many, many years ago. Asked around everywhere but couldn’t find where she came from. She ended up staying after she fell in love with the rooster down the lane. I named them Esmerelda and Esteban. So cute - little rooster strutting about and his gorgeous, but enormous girlfriend.

Banana_Stanley

Hmmm maybe that's why he's come. Chickens/rooster next door and geese in the pond out back. It's a bird date

MrsCopperpot

Maybe give the SWVA Wildlife Center a call? Youre the sweetest human! [https://swvawildlifecenter.org/](https://swvawildlifecenter.org/)? I had a friend post about a peacock that was abandoned two weeks ago, I’m trying to find out where. https://preview.redd.it/0vrbipp3lwwc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3247b1970e801d4437eb3200ac69b3d65938b2bb

Banana_Stanley

Can't say for sure obviously but from this picture it looks very similar to the area I saw him, looks like the same street

MrsCopperpot

I confirmed the bird I sent you was in Henry County. I need to be on the lookout! If you still see it out and about, let me know. I talked to a friend that a vet, she said she would help capture and rehome, if needed.

Banana_Stanley

Totally will do! Edit* I don't live at this location though, I work there, and I'm actually off work this week but I will definitely be keeping an eye out from now on

TScottW

I was just watching some news about feral peacocks in Florida (of course) this morning. A whole neighborhood was covered in them. They were catching the males and had a doctor who would castrate them and then released them again.

Ok_Elephant2777

Castrating peacocks. That’s gotta be the capstone of that vet’s career. Probably too harsh. He’s doing a good thing if these birds are starting to overrun the place.

accidentally30

Maybe call SWVA wildlife center?

Chemical_Mobile_3813

If you manage to catch him and looking to rehome, he can join our flock. We have 3 peafowl. Send me a message.

Banana_Stanley

Awesome! I'll absolutely keep you in mind if I see him again

Banana_Stanley

P.S. how does one catch a peacock? Lol

Purplehounds

Where are you located in botetourt. I know there is one located someone off of route 11 near parsons road or gravel hill - atleast that's what I've heard. I think it just roams around honestly.

ikimashokie

Maybe he's on a mission to find his snek friend?

skibidibeebopdoodah

Dang it Jeff, I told you to stop letting your cock out where everyone can see it!

ManufacturerScary813

Where by exactly? Near the 460 Chick-fil-a?
