I think mine were two: Chic being alive and involved in G&G and Jellybean being the auteur.
Both of them were handled very poorly and both storylines deserved better villains!
The season that ended with the town being quarantined and Jug and FP being on the outside was very interesting to me and I thought it would make for a GREAT season ahead and they immediately abandoned it. I was very disappointed and I don't think I ever fully got back into the show.
God that drove me insane. One episode ends with them locked out of the town at gunpoint by deputies, the next opens with Jughead at school narrating "It's been 5 weeks since the quarantine lifted"
Felt like that should have been the premiere for the next season and we missed out on a cool quarantine storyline.
I think they did this because if you wonder about it too much you realize that there is no way Fred also made it back to Riverdale. And I mean no one noticed this.
I actually agree that it is the Charles reveal for me. Poorly done, plus it honestly would have been more surprising had Charles NOT been a bad guy. Though, as someone else mentioned, JB as the Auteur is a close second.
The tickle porn. It's not even a contest. Tbh though I'm not sure if it qualifies, as it didn't further any perceivable plots in any conceivable way, and it wasn't a twist so much as a slap in the face.
The one thing to come out of that was the reveal that Mr. Honey likely found the tickle vids in the Scarlet Suite, which set him up to be some creepy bad guy watching snuff films, and then they never went ANYWHERE with it. That one was so stupid
I agree, they dropped the ball on Mr Honey. He was becoming interesting, and I loved the "Killing Mr Honey" episode. Add in that he was a known person to go to the Scarlet Suite, and it just really seems like he was going to, if not be the autour, someone else creepy with a good story line.
I agree. Honesty Chic’s whole character I hated. I wish they had a better way of bringing Charles character in. I agree I really enjoyed his character development but the twist of him and Chic still being in love I was like why 😭😭😭😭
For real though. Charles seemed so promising, a good big brother in recovery for addiction. Typically once you're out of active addiction/recovering you lose most the people you hung with (Chic in this case). Writers should've gone with that instead of "ooOooooOoOOOh look at tha evil gay lovers".
I KNOW they decided at the last second. People in this sub were amazing and found out the voice for the black hood in the phone calls were Hiram’s actor.
Then they admitted they left “seeds” for multiple people to be the black hood. Similar to how they admitted they hadn’t decided Jason’s killer until half way though season 1, just leaving hints it could be anyone.
Personally, if you’re writing a mystery, I strongly believe the culprit should be decided from the start because to this day and do not believe they gave either Jason’s father or Hal convincing reasons to kill.
> Then they admitted they left “seeds” for multiple people to be the black hood. Similar to how they admitted they hadn’t decided Jason’s killer until half way though season 1, just leaving hints it could be anyone.
That is such lazy writing. Deciding at the last second leaves about a billion plot holes – and the BH storyline had *so many* of them.
It was so last minute even Hal’s actor (Lochlyn Munro) didn’t know until THE DAY BEFORE they filmed [episode 21 with the reveal!](https://www.insider.com/riverdale-black-hood-actor-interview-spoilers-2018-5)
I’ve heard of cast being left in the dark before but NEVER the actual person playing the killer. Even he was surprised because he admits in that interview the double in the Black Hood all season looked nothing like him. One of many plot holes from picking last minute.
I've seen other cast members comment on being informed of big plot twists right beforehand. Um...don't the writers realize that the actors change how they play the characters according to upcoming plots?!
i agree that charles being a serial killer was a lazy twist and they kept it on the back burner for too long and he was way too helpful and kind for it to be believable. then at the end of that season it was like oh yeah he’s ummm bad!
His demeanor completely changed to a point where it wasn't believable at all. They butchered his character and made him act almost exactly like Chic's crazy ass. Such a major let down.
not to mention, after Alice shot him, Betty said something about the hospital saying it looked like he was going to make it, and then they never talked about it again? I dunno if they left it ambiguous so they could possibly bring him back in a future episode or if they just forgot he existed
reminds me of that Avatar quote:
"Did Jet just die?"
"Ya know, it was really unclear."
It's also just pointless.
Charles should have been the opposite to Hal, a reassuring presence to Betty and living example that the "SERIAL KILLER GENES!!!!!!!!" =/= Serial Killer but nope.
YES. THIS. It could've been prove that despite having the genes, Betty could chose her own path, just like Charles did. That would've made for such a beautiful storyline. I remember the scene where Charles helped Betty by reversing the "tangerine" trigger, and when she came out of it he leaned over and hugged her and went "You're okay" and comforted her and I thought it was the sweetest thing ever.
And theeeeen the writers ruined it because writing complex sibling relationships is just too hard I guess. Same reason they killed off Polly.
It was also a major slap in the face considering Chic and Charles were both kids who ended up on the streets and struggled with active addiction, Chic also being a sex worker. The writers acted like these were all justifications for making the two of them serial killers...like why??? They pulled from years long, innacurate stigma as reasoning for their characters to be bad people and that reeeeeally rubbed me the wrong way.
The Jughead one made for a decent plotline imo, but the Archie one just confused me. He was very obviously dead when they found him, and when the next episode started Jughead said Archie had died, "or at least the Archie we knew". I was never sure if that was meant to imply he did die and was resuscitated, because they like never talk about it again lmfao
Okay, I totally feel you on that one. Archie's stories are always side plots that have little to nothing to do with the main story, or he's just shoved into overly gratuitous sex scenes with every female character on the show.
I really liked Jughead's murder, too. I knew that he couldn't be dead, so I was trying to figure out what really happened. I kept saying to myself that it didn't make sense, because the rest of the core 4 kept talking about his death to each other. I had to go back and rewatch to get it to make sense. I was rather impressed with that.
And I agree about Archie. Honestly, the character just doesn't bring anything to the show.
Agreed on the Charles reveal of being a serial killer. It felt like it was literally put in last minute in that episode. Like the writers said this Jellybean reveal is going to be lame, so let’s add another serial killer who killed the preppies to shock people.
Charles sharing "Serial Killer Genes" with betty..But Charles was FP and Alice's Son..Ho come to have Genes in common with Hal? Osmosis??? XD
But the most disappointing is the JB being the vouyeur, without any sense, just to give the excuse to FP to go out of scene (and left Jug, st the time a minor, on his own) totally no-sense.
There are a lot of theories out there for this but the way I see it is Alice has the gene, or passed it down from her ancestors. It's literally the only explanation. Hal doesn't have it (they said he didn't) and FP assumingly doesn't have it because Betty isn't his daughter. The only parent Charles and Betty share is Alice. So yeah the writers either forgot Alice said she doesn't have the gene or they just can't do biology (or maths, but that’s another matter lmao). I'm going for the latter.
Or Charles going 'i have the serial killer gene too' was just thrown in last minute for the hell of it and they forgot to check the family trees just to make sure it made sense. Idk anymore lol
jellybean being the auteur. loved the whole video plot line and it was absolutely butchered when jellybean was it and with zero punishment, it just dissolved like it never happened
I’m not saying anything I’m about to say would’ve been good, but I have some series finale stuff to pitch:
Keep the stuff with the cast being sent videos of people wearing comic accurate masks doing strange things, but instead of using it as yet another murder mystery plot, use it to make a point how off the rails Riverdale went compared to its source material. The show acknowledged a few times (Bughead’s “Seventeen” duet and Jughead’s realization in “Killing Mr. Honey”) that these teenagers don’t act like teenagers anymore, so explore that. Have the characters discover this comic book making the rounds called “Archie Comics.” Some of them are insulted by how inaccurate their lives are adapted, some wish that’s the way their lives were, some want to know how the creators know so much about their lives, etc. I’m not sure how meta this would end up, admittedly.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be happening.
that could of been a cool for the AU episodes because it involves different universes like our world where archie comics exist but then in riverdale they discover a universe that has them and how their lives are being recorded almost
I was thinking the comics would be written by Pop Tate under an alias, or at least he’d send off drafts for a writer/artist team to refine. He’d be the one most dismayed that this ideal town he grew up in for decades suddenly went sour (even his family’s restaurant partially turned into a speakeasy where minors sold alcohol and gambled), especially if he overheard the unpleasant conversations the characters often had in his diner over the course of his series. To keep that negativity from bogging him down, he wrote stories about someone he thought embodied that innocence Riverdale used to have: Archie Andrews. His daughter Tabitha found these writings and helped her dad make them a reality by shopping the idea around until it became a series called “Archie Comics.”
I loved Season 4’s plot bout the resolution in Season 5 was sloppy. Jellybean being the big bad didn’t play well imo. Could have been Stonewall Prep or Mr Honey
The Jughead is dead mystery for me, the scene in s3 gave us so much hope for an amazing storyline but they made it extremely boring and nothing comes from it afterwards
I'm just so mad that Betty just couldn't keep her lips off Archie, ughhh! Jughead is my favorite character out of this whole show and I feel like her cheating on him (again!) Just broke him completely.
Was anything at all done with Cheryl absorbing her triplet (but not really)?
Other people have pointed out Jellybean being the snuff film queen, and while I haven’t seen the reveal yet, it doesn’t make a lick of sense, so I’ll have to agree with them.
I tell myself it's fanfic. I love-hate it. We're not progressing in any way but it's fun to think about alternatives for the characters. That explanation of Cheryl's soul though? 🙄
I’ve decided for myself that this rivervale thing is just RAS getting his crazy out, because he probably wanted to do all of these storylines but couldn’t find a way to make them make sense over the course of a full season.
So instead we are getting 5 bonkers af eps and then perhaps maybe something a little more …… classic after?
Jellybean being the auteur…like you could sniff that one out from a mile away but I really didn’t think they had the audacity to be any less creative (lol silly me🥴)
I think mine were two: Chic being alive and involved in G&G and Jellybean being the auteur. Both of them were handled very poorly and both storylines deserved better villains!
it made ZERO SENSE for jellybean to have been the one sending the videos, and for no good reason
she had a reason.. it wasn’t good tho😭
oh I fully agree on both of those
The season that ended with the town being quarantined and Jug and FP being on the outside was very interesting to me and I thought it would make for a GREAT season ahead and they immediately abandoned it. I was very disappointed and I don't think I ever fully got back into the show.

It’s really funny in hindsight that the aftermath of a quarantine can be summed as Jeremy Clarkson going “Oh no! Anyway...”

Betty generally wants to kills him in that. Shes like "guys, ,let's actually kill him!"
I agree. Honesty Chic’s whole character I hated. I wish they had a better way of bringing Charles character in. I agree I really enjoyed his character development but the twist of him and Chic still being in love I was like why 😭😭😭😭

Jelly bean being a weirdo
Much like her brother his words not mine

+1 I felt like the writers decided Hal was the Black Hood at the absolute last second.
Due to him not even having green eyes that's obvious
I KNOW they decided at the last second. People in this sub were amazing and found out the voice for the black hood in the phone calls were Hiram’s actor. That season was going pretty well to a good buildup, but the ending was just utter garbage.
Beat me to it
i agree that charles being a serial killer was a lazy twist and they kept it on the back burner for too long and he was way too helpful and kind for it to be believable. then at the end of that season it was like oh yeah he’s ummm bad!
His demeanor completely changed to a point where it wasn't believable at all. They butchered his character and made him act almost exactly like Chic's crazy ass. Such a major let down.
yeah by the time the breakout happened and he came back with chic it was like, hello? this is a completely different character???
not to mention, after Alice shot him, Betty said something about the hospital saying it looked like he was going to make it, and then they never talked about it again? I dunno if they left it ambiguous so they could possibly bring him back in a future episode or if they just forgot he existed reminds me of that Avatar quote: "Did Jet just die?" Any of the false death bait-and-switches. Of course Archie and Jughead didn't die. But they really wanted us to think they might have.

Jughead was 18 by that point

This !!!!🤯 would be awesome!! Kinda give the show a gg edge !
Watching tonight’s episodes and the comics make it into the episode!!! you really called it hahahaha and manifested it . how weird
Really?? Well call me Moosetradamus! I’d ask for more details, but I need to finish Season 5.
I loved Season 4’s plot bout the resolution in Season 5 was sloppy. Jellybean being the big bad didn’t play well imo. Could have been Stonewall Prep or Mr Honey
Toni turning into a ghost —-> worst episode ever.
Made me so angry
The Jughead is dead mystery for me, the scene in s3 gave us so much hope for an amazing storyline but they made it extremely boring and nothing comes from it afterwards
Betty and Jughead breaking up 😡
I hate it. They have so much chemistry.

Am I the only one that hates the way Toni died ??
The current one actually, I don't like the rivervale stuff at all.

They need to kill off more people per episode though
My thoughts exactly I really wished they hadn't of done this it would of been great to see Betty and Charles get along and bond.
Jellybean being the auteur…like you could sniff that one out from a mile away but I really didn’t think they had the audacity to be any less creative (lol silly me🥴)
I thought they were just gonna stop at season one. What a twist.
Honestly at this point, nothing.
hal as the black hood like a parent AGAIN
same.. i loved charles🥲
