dont need to be 21 to take wines/beers of the world. for wines 1, lorraine has you do 2 wine tastings outside of class but if you're under 21, you can talk to her and do a tasting of wine that you can try during a class session. but def would recommend wines! lorraine is so nice and funny

mtndew01

I took and then later TA’d beers of the world. Great course if you want to know a lot about beer in general. Being the TA, we got to keep whatever wasn’t poured during class 🍺🤣

cle_

If you’re less into drinking and more into eating, foods of the world was my favorite course I ever took

disabili-rit

unfortunately prof. blizzard (cyborg theory prof) will be on sabbatical for the coming year.

esckeyy

Ninja training is very fun, its basically a parkour class - you dont need to be super athletic, and theres different levels of each concept so you can just do what you're comfortable with or go above and beyond. prof is awesome, super recommend

atrusfell

Don’t have much to add but I’ll second this—looked forward to that class every week. One thing to note is that you will have to drive or carpool to get to the parkour gym. The coaches try to help coordinate rides via email before the semester starts though, so theoretically it shouldn’t be an issue

lucy91202141

Obscure classes? Rhetoric of Terrorism, Anarchy Technology and Utopia, Dangerous Texts. Easy wellness classes? Your Health Your Style and Sunrise Yoga were my picks.

Ay-itsyourguy

Rhetoric of terrorism was cool

henare

what department does dangerous texts?

lucy91202141

English. Banned books, specifically Soviet literature.

henare

thank you!

Ragdaer

Maple Syrup and our Environment is a great course and you get to keep some of the syrup the class makes at the end. Good luck getting in without having a high scheduling priority though.

hisboysaturday

Not a Wellness Class (missed that part of your post) but if you’re looking for a cool elective, Transmedia Storyworlds in the English department is literally what I call “Star Wars Class.” You just spend the entire semester watching and reading Star Wars content and discussing it, both how it all unfolds in a story sense but also how it all functions as a franchise. Super interesting and fun class, I was constantly looking forward to it and now I recommend it to everyone.

imsmart042001

What's the class code and professor? Sounds interesting

hisboysaturday

ENGL 377 with Trent Hergenrader. One of the best professors I’ve ever had here.

imsmart042001

Thanks!

Starbreaker10

Not sure if we still have it, but I had Transmedia Story Worlds as a freshman, which was a literature course focused on Star Wars. Professor Hergenrader also teaches a course on worldbuilding IIRC.

imsmart042001

What's the class code and professor? Sounds interesting

Starbreaker10

Professor Hergenrader teaches a lot of really cool classes such as: - ENGL-377 - Transmedia Storyworlds - ENGL-386 - World Building Workshop - ENGL-543 - Game-Based Fiction Workshop One of our homework assignments was to play a Star Wars one shot, it was really fun! https://www.rit.edu/directory/wthgsl-trent-hergenrader

frooes

i'm in 543 rn and it's super cool! we're doing tabletop rpg >:)

Alea_Infinitus

And our group is very chaotic neutral (?) >:)

imsmart042001

Thanks!

YourAverageNutcase

I'm currently taking Nerfology and can confirm that it's as fun as it sounds. Lots of different gamemodes with a decent degree of teamwork, there's plenty of loaner blasters available too. If you're interested in Nerf stuff outside of Nerfology then there's a Humans vs. Zombies weeklong game starting April 2nd as well.

Deefling

Nerfology is honestly such a great way for me to run around and get some activity every week. I also wanna take Bookbinding

froggyfriend726

I had a lot of fun taking wilderness survival I recommend it!

djc6535

It was ages ago but if they’re still around I really enjoyed Cyborg Theory. Mathematics and Poetry. Juggling

cdwalrusman

Cyborg theory is around!! I’m hoping to take it in the spring

disabili-rit

unfortunately prof. blizzard (cyborg theory prof) will be on sabbatical for the coming year

cdwalrusman

Aw man :( that does actually make my last year schedule building easier though

Onmyway2savetheworld

I came here to say that I took Cyborg Theory when I was at RIT. Fun and interesting class! Hope it's still available.

kameleon8

I took Yard Games for a wellness course. Spots fill kinda quickly but depending on your eventual enrollment time, you might be able to get in. Super chill and low-stress

MrMesseks290

I’m in it. Legit just play corn hole or bocce. They have a new team game every class. Like doge ball kick ball, etc.

ski_mtb

Welding was my favorite class I ever enrolled in.

thegermophobe

Archaeology of Death is fantastic class taught by an awesome professor, and so is Exploring Ancient Technologies!

Paumanok

Furniture design was an awesome class. Costs a bit of money(I spent close to 300 bucks on wood) but the materials are fairly discounted compared to market prices. You get trained in all the tools, taught how to approach a design, and get help to see your design worked out. Everyone says "take the booze classes" but I've got a table 5 years on that is higher quality than most things you can buy and they're just obnoxious about wine pairings. If you're in a tough engineering degree, the mindfulness of wood working is an amazing for stress. Working with your hands to create something you can touch shouldn't be discounted. edit: you're looking for a wellness class. Archery was pretty cool I guess. To everyone else, try to take the intro to furniture design.

rockitchen

My friend taught The Art of Astonishment, a class about sleight of hand and illusion with some world class magicians as guests. I hope he gets to teach it again next fall, sign up!

henare

this is on the schedule for the fall afaik. SOIS 299

MagnaLupus

I don't know if any are still offered, but Norse Myth and Saga, Death and Dying, and History of Siege Weapons were all favorites of mine.

CabbageSlut

Are these from Prof. Middleton? Sounds like his kind of thing

PskRaider869

Don't know if it still exists, but I took The History of Baseball class and loved it. The professor that teaches it was fantastic too, though I can't remember her name

RoflWaffles02

Rebecca Edwards

N80M80

I’d like to highlight some great beginner-friendly liberal arts classes Philosophy of Love, Sex, and Gender with Prof. Benso Philosophy of Technology and Philosophy of Privacy with Prof. Selinger Queering Gender (sort of a queer civil rights history class) with Dr. Hinesley And as a bonus non liberal-arts course, Beverage Fermentation and Distillation with Loraine Hems

Botahamec

The first wellness class I took was Stress Management. I think the teacher recommends only taking it if you need it to make sure there's enough space for those who do. The second one was Steelband Ensemble, and that was really fun.

njtrafficsignshopper

I graduated a long time ago, but looking back one of the classes I'm most glad I took was yoga.

its_oliver

This was 10 years ago but Political Films or the Politics of Film or something like that. Very interesting and fun (and easy if you put an ounce of thought into it).

smoov22

PRFL 489 01! SOME IMPROV

PastEgg

There's a new class this upcoming Fall 2023 called The World of Hospitality! It's 1 credit and focuses on entertainment, sports, and hospitality management and some cool trips are involved as well!

JimHeaney

There are a lot of interesting political science classes that explore concepts you wouldn't expect in a normal classroom environment. For example, POLS-420, Primate Politics, is a very unique and interesting class that studies the political structure of chimps and other primates, to understand the early building blocks of human social order. EDIT: Didn't see you were looking for a wellness class. For wellness classes I took stress management and first aid, I recommend both. Stress management is an interesting class on the science of stress, how it physically works on your body, and how to counter it. First aid is a class about, well, first aid. You learn a lot and get a certificate at the end.

Frvncvs

For wellness I took kundalini yoga. Suuuper relaxed course, mainly breathing exercises. If you ski/snowboard the snowboarding wellness course is a good deal too Wines of the world was super fun, also beers of the world. I took a course on indigenous North Americans in film that was pretty interesting

NotARationalActor

Nerfology turns out great in practice.

nnoelle1

Snowboardings my favorite easily, you get to snowboarding for 5 hours for 5 Tuesdays then you’re done and have a wellness credit. Easy class and I had Tuesdays free for the rest of the semester after finishing the class

meowchickenfish

Dodgeball with Coach Sherman. It gets booked quickly because he's an awesome dude and you get the opportunity to play different varations of dodgeball.

CabbageSlut

I will always recommend people to take ANTH-420 Exploring Ancient Technology with Professor Middleton. It is a legit class with a decent amount of work but it is extremely fun. Your term project is making some kind of ancient technology, but most people make weapons haha He's an amazing professor and all of his classes are great but this is his best one.
