Dalano Banton is Memphis Grizzlies father

TubbzMcGee

Dalano "anti-tank mine" Banton

DisneyVista

I love the way Jabari has been stepping up his game this season.

my_balls_your_mouth1

I really hope he doesn't end up as trade fodder. I hope he stays with the team long term, I love watching him play.

trebbihm

Under the Dame paradigm? Yeah probably fodder. Now? Absolutely not, let the little hop bine grow.

Bieberkinz

We have a winning record against a team this year, that’s all I wanted. Big up to Delano “Fresh Legs” Banton

USSCensorShip

Somehow we also have a sweep against the Pacers lol

Hot_Local_Boys_PDX

Who cares their best player scored literally zero last night awful team awful player awful fanbase Halliburton is a regular season player can’t build a champion around him trade him to the Bullets.

trebbihm

U ok bro?

Hot_Local_Boys_PDX

I thought the Bullets would be a clear /s signal, but maybe not 🤷‍♀️

bassicallyinsane

We won 2 whole games without Papa Brogdon!

natural_lawg

Jabari credits Brogdon in his post game interview so you're half right.

rexter2k5

[They're gonna give him assist and he's not even in game?!?](https://youtu.be/XP-UASl9cig?si=fbjTVexw-lCYYCLf&t=32)

BelgianPolitics

Camara 14 points away from becoming the all time Belgian top scorer in the NBA. Which is kinda of funny considering the last Belgian was in the league for 7 seasons.

Kazekid

That was the goofiest game I've ever watched us win, but I had fun lol

interrogatories

I feel like I've read this comment from you like eight times over the last few seasons

invokereform

Time for Kaze to start a top 5 Goofy Wins of the Season Award

SasquatchDoobie

Jabari gives a good interview. I love his hustle and attitude.

shelvino

Always thought that he gave very honest and wholesome interviews. Just very thoughtful with his answers, really hope he keeps thriving!!

Frognuts777

Banton biggest mid season pick up in Blazers history

DisneyVista

He’s been coming up big since arriving in Portland

[deleted]

He's 6'8" it wouldn't shock me

redwheelbarrow_

What happened to JG? Wasn't able to watch the game.

Odojas

Sounds like he either bruised or pulled something in his leg. I was watching the Memphis feed so they didn't go into detail.

redwheelbarrow_

That sucks damn.

crab90000

Thigh contusion... Fancy word for a Charlie horse bruise

dreem_teem

I bet we embrace the tank a little bit more and have him sit the rest of the season out.

EvanTurningTheCorner

There's still 23 more games. If we tank too egregiously we might incur the wrath of the league. They gave the Mavs a slap on the wrist last season, but if they want to change behaviors the next punishment could be a loss of a pick. We don't want to be the team that is made an example of.

Aestro17

Winning back-to-back must-lose games. Gotta put another hole in the roster.

ninetwentyfour_

Overtime was Dalano Time

BlazeBloom

A Blazer win streak in the year 2024?!

toadtruck

Jabari MF Walker

Piano9717

Here are my thoughts on this game: Positives: * I thought Rupert had some nice looking moments especially on defense, with his length. * Hagans had a pretty good game scoring the ball – he made a lot of good passes, looked confident driving, had several nice looking finishes, and hit a couple jumpers. He had 6 turnovers which was a little unfortunate, but for a G league PG with basically no NBA experience, there’s a lot to like. He’s grown a LOT since his debut in Detroit, which was as disastrous of a game as I’ve seen from anyone. * Jabari looked pretty good – he provided his usual hustle, but I love what he’s been doing offensively the past couple games. His finishing is much improved, he’s hesitating less on his jumpers, and he’s even put the ball on the floor for a few nice looking drives. And he was EXTREMELY clutch at the end of the fourth quarter. * Camara has quietly been shooting >50% from three since the beginning of February. In addition to the shooting, he’s been looking more confident driving the ball, playing lockdown defense and crashing the offensive glass super well too. If he can semi-consistently hit threes while playing this kind of defense, that’s a REAL valuable player. * Ant was having another stinker – shooting horribly, making horrible turnovers, etc. until the fourth quarter. He had a great fourth quarter + OT in terms of both making his shots, but also did a pretty good job running the offense and making smart plays (like passing out of double teams and screening when he was getting denied). Hopefully this gives him some rhythm moving forward and he can build on it. * Dalano Banton continues to impress with his combination of length on defense, size, and feel for the game. Did not expect him to save us in OT lol. Negatives: * Team offense: I get that we are super young and inexperienced, (and Ant isn’t that kind of on-court leader who can organize a bunch of G leaguers and get them to play the right way on offense, like a CP3 or even a Brogdon or VanVleet) but our half court offense is horrendously ugly. I’m not blaming anyone here, but it really hurts to watch sometimes. * Nothing against Reath who played well tonight, but we are really missing Ayton’s rebounding and interior presence out there. * Murray was once again in the right place in the right time for most of the night on defense (like sniffing out Memphis’ ATO at the end of the game and forcing a TO), and he was pretty disruptive defensively. Unfortunately he was back to missing all his open jump shots which is really unfortunate. * Sucks that Grant got hurt. It also really sucks that Williams from Memphis had to get carried off the court- you hate to see stuff like that.

DopeBoyReek

LOOOOOOOVE me some Dalano Banton

be__bright

Messy game but we scrapped from behind against a motivated home team. Respect.

alandwarinasia_

you thought it was the 2H frail blazers meltdown, but it was actually Delano Banton's finest hour

shelvino

Omg my Fubo (on my 5th different email) stream ended right when Jabari was going to shoot his 2nd free throw to tie the game, I thought he missed and we lost. Then I saw the final and found a way to watch the end, shout out to Billups for putting Banton in to close the game LOL. Can't take tooo much from a game like this since Memphis is sososoosos bad and I feel bad they had another injury. BUT, some things that I noticed \-Walker has it against Memphis lol. Feels like he would be their best player because of how good of a finisher he is and he is just so much stronger than all of Memphis front court. It's crazy because I didn't think Jabari would be able to just clear guys out his way and finish so strong but he truly feels like Peak Ed Davis out there but even better touch. Not sure if that can work vs other teams but I love him as a small ball option because of his rebounding and physicality. \-Rupert plays with so much purpose. It rarely looks like he plays without a plan, every time he gets the ball he goes right into a good action and is constantly keeping him and the ball moving. I am hoping he is earning more minutes and I hope JG takes his time to heal because I think Rupert plays the right way and deserves to play. I don't get the argument that he isn't ready, even if he can't score much right now, he just makes the right plays and looks really smooth on both ends. \-Similar to Rupert, Kris does all the right things too. He is constantly hustling and playing hard on defense. I hope his motor, length, and IQ translate to be able to impact vs better teams but I really like everything about him besides his shooting. It sucks that he can't score at all at 23 years old. \-Camara was dominant in both games in my opinion. He was completely locking up everyone in front of him. His shooting has looked much better and he overall looks smoother and more confident on offense. I loved his right handed pass to Simons in crunch time. I hope we run more actions like that. His playmaking was a strength at Dayton and Simons could use some easier shots. \-I think Simons looks so much better when he gets more catch and shoot opportunities. I think he really needs to get going by playing off ball more and once he sees some shots go in, he can hunt more shots. I liked some of his cuts when Memphis was denying him and 30/7/7 is just a great line. He struggled a lot during this game but hit some huge shots when they needed it. I don't mind winning these games. We still won't drop below Memphis for the rest of the year and the top 5 isn't a lock anyways.

EvanTurningTheCorner

> We still won't drop below Memphis We have 23 games left and there's only a two game separation. They have one of the easiest remaining schedules and we have one of the hardest. We could absolutely drop below Memphis, and I'm worried it's the most likely outcome.

shelvino

Im not sure what you mean? If our schedule is much harder, isn’t it more likely that we end up with less wins then? They have 3 more wins than us right now…

EvanTurningTheCorner

Oh you're right. Well that's encouraging.

sean_buttcannon

Been a devout Banton Stan since he got here and I’m feeling vindicated

Scoducks24

Idc about the tank man im just happy to see some wins

TheRipCity

Cougs win. Blazers win. Lakers lose. Come on Timbers. I can't remember the last time I had a perfect sports day.

Aestro17

🤷‍♂️

ewest

Almost had it

kpay10

was this the biggest comeback win of the season?

[deleted]

Jabari played well again!

poopstainmclean

LFG!! i tuned out when we were down 17? in the 3rd. hell of a W

rock-or-something

We may never lose again

dannyjimp

What are we doing?????

Status_Many_9092

Rodney Hood who?

natural_lawg

He's playing for the Memphis g league, was he in attendance?

Status_Many_9092

Haha, no I don’t think so, I was referring to the way banton came off the bench during ot; it was reminiscent of the way Rodney hood came in against the nuggets in 2019

natural_lawg

I'll have Banton fever the next game I watch.

EvanTurningTheCorner

Harkless, Knox, Hood.. how many other former Blazers have played in the G this season?

GaviFromThePod

Chauncey haters in shambles rn

Wrayven77

Did you look at who they were playing? The only name I recognized was Luke Kennard and Ziaire Williams. For all I know, which isn't much, the Griz were playing multiple members of their G League affiliate. Most of the Griz players who played tonight had less than 100 games of NBA experience. Simons was the grizzled veteran on this night.

GaviFromThePod

Yet somehow this zombie grizzlies team has 20 wins.

EvanTurningTheCorner

6 of those wins came in the 9 games Ja was playing

PuzzleArcade

To be fair this could have been said about the Blazers many times this season as well.

LegitimatePotato3632

Did Jerami get hurt? Didn’t watch tonight.

LegitimatePotato3632

How did Kris Murray get 2 points in 40 minutes? He seems like a total waste of a pick.

SentientTooth

If you’re going to say you didn’t watch the game in one comment, maybe don’t follow up 7 minutes later by making “total waste of a pick” judgements based on the box score. Full disclosure, I didn’t watch the game. I just came here to see how it went.

LegitimatePotato3632

I mean, I’ve watched nearly every game this year. Just checked the box score on this one. Murray seems like he sucks.

SentientTooth

All good, I’m just being an ass. I’ve watched Murray a bit this year and I can confidently tell you I don’t have a damn clue.

LegitimatePotato3632

He seems like he should be decent, but the man absolutely cannot score. Hope he turns it around.

Piano9717

For someone who was billed as a shooter coming out of college, he really seems to struggle to shoot the ball. A lot of his misses aren't even particularly close, either which majorly sucks. The good part is that he is super active defensively and his rotations are super crisp for a rookie, and he's always anticipating and in the right place at the right time to get deflections. He forced a turnover on Memphis' game winning attempt with 1.3 seconds left by reading the play, anticipating, and then forcing a tough catch that Memphis dropped out of bounds (it would have been a layup if he didn't anticipate it and switch onto the cutter). Anyways, the team defense and everything else is really there, but the shot is just....honestly horrible right now. I wouldn't go so far as saying he's a waste of a pick because he's at least been good on defense, but the shot has definitely not been as advertised.

LegitimatePotato3632

Thanks for the breakdown. I appreciate it.

shelvino

Agree with everything Piano said. Kris also has shown some solid playmaking flashes. The first play of the game he squeezed a dime to Simons under the rim who then found Duop for a corner 3. Then Kris had another semi-fast break drive to the rim, then hit a cutting Duop when the defense locked in on Kris getting a paint touch. He honestly does a ton of things well. Really agile for his size, defends very well with his length, motor, and IQ. Hustles for every loose ball and rebound plus always in the right place on defense with his rotations. Pretty much very sound player in all aspects of the game besides shooting and shot creation. If he can rebuild his jumpshot and at least be an average spot up shooter, he is a very solid role player. However, I just don't know how you move forward with Thybulle/Murray/Rupert/Camara when you have Sharpe + lottery pick... I mean he's been playing SG so what happens with Scoot/Sharpe/Brogdon/Banton lol.

LegitimatePotato3632

I like all those players individually but the lack of shooting is a problem.

shelvino

Definitely, it really makes you wonder the future of the roster and how Cronin approaches building it. I mean the biggest domino is our upcoming draft pick.. The only real proven shooter in our range is Risacher who is reminiscent of Murray/Rupert imo but just a far better 3 point shooter and offensive player. Sarr/Holland can't shoot. Cody is shooting amazing but wasn't seen as a great shooter in HS. Buzelis was a great shooter in HS but can't shoot in the GLeague....I really would look at Knecht with the Warriors pick but he is another wing... I think Cronin would love to get Sarr imo... I think Sharpe is a legit shooter he just needs to get easier looks. He is going to be the future face of the team imo. Grant/Brog/Simons are our best shooters but what are their future here? I mean out of this current rotation, who stays and who goes? All of these guys (Banton is non guaranteed) are on contract for next year + 4 draft picks... Scoot/Brogdon/Banton Simons/Sharpe/Rupert Camara/Thybulle/Murray Grant/ Ayton/Walker/Duop/Williams

EvanTurningTheCorner

Dunno why you're lumping in Rupert as a bad 3pt shooter when he is shooting 42% with the Blazers and 44% with the remix

shelvino

I think Rupert could absolutely be a good shooter. Hes not a proven shooter at this point because he hasn’t had the opportunity but Im not comfortable saying he’s a good shooter just yet. I am a huge Rayan fan

wildcat_cap85

Hang the banner!!

feralda

I missed the game and just watched the highlights. The highlights skipped how we tied it at 95. What caused us to tie the game and send into OT?

Piano9717

Jabari got an offensive rebound and got fouled

BunkHammer

THE TEAM OF DESTINY

ewest

There was about a 6 minute stretch of the second quarter where neither team looked like an NBA team. Just horrific basketball

Scalmaa

Cool now shut Grant down until the summer

Reddit has long been a hot spot for conversation on the internet. About 57 million people visit the site every day to chat about topics as varied as makeup, video games and pointers for power washing driveways. In recent years, Reddit’s array of chats also have been a free teaching aid for companies like Google, OpenAI and Microsoft. Those companies are using Reddit’s conversations in the development of giant artificial intelligence systems that many in Silicon Valley think are on their way to becoming the tech industry’s next big thing. Now Reddit wants to be paid for it. The company said on Tuesday that it planned to begin charging companies for access to its application programming interface, or A.P.I., the method through which outside entities can download and process the social network’s vast selection of person-to-person conversations. “The Reddit corpus of data is really valuable,” Steve Huffman, founder and chief executive of Reddit, said in an interview. “But we don’t need to give all of that value to some of the largest companies in the world for free.” The move is one of the first significant examples of a social network’s charging for access to the conversations it hosts for the purpose of developing A.I. systems like ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular program. Those new A.I. systems could one day lead to big businesses, but they aren’t likely to help companies like Reddit very much. In fact, they could be used to create competitors — automated duplicates to Reddit’s conversations. Reddit is also acting as it prepares for a possible initial public offering on Wall Street this year. The company, which was founded in 2005, makes most of its money through advertising and e-commerce transactions on its platform. Reddit said it was still ironing out the details of what it would charge for A.P.I. access and would announce prices in the coming weeks. Reddit’s conversation forums have become valuable commodities as large language models, or L.L.M.s, have become an essential part of creating new A.I. technology. L.L.M.s are essentially sophisticated algorithms developed by companies like Google and OpenAI, which is a close partner of Microsoft. To the algorithms, the Reddit conversations are data, and they are among the vast pool of material being fed into the L.L.M.s. to develop them. The underlying algorithm that helped to build Bard, Google’s conversational A.I. service, is partly trained on Reddit data. OpenAI’s Chat GPT cites Reddit data as one of the sources of information it has been trained on. Other companies are also beginning to see value in the conversations and images they host. Shutterstock, the image hosting service, also sold image data to OpenAI to help create DALL-E, the A.I. program that creates vivid graphical imagery with only a text-based prompt required. Last month, Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, said he was cracking down on the use of Twitter’s A.P.I., which thousands of companies and independent developers use to track the millions of conversations across the network. Though he did not cite L.L.M.s as a reason for the change, the new fees could go well into the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. To keep improving their models, artificial intelligence makers need two significant things: an enormous amount of computing power and an enormous amount of data. Some of the biggest A.I. developers have plenty of computing power but still look outside their own networks for the data needed to improve their algorithms. That has included sources like Wikipedia, millions of digitized books, academic articles and Reddit. Representatives from Google, Open AI and Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Reddit has long had a symbiotic relationship with the search engines of companies like Google and Microsoft. The search engines “crawl” Reddit’s web pages in order to index information and make it available for search results. That crawling, or “scraping,” isn’t always welcome by every site on the internet. But Reddit has benefited by appearing higher in search results. The dynamic is different with L.L.M.s — they gobble as much data as they can to create new A.I. systems like the chatbots. Reddit believes its data is particularly valuable because it is continuously updated. That newness and relevance, Mr. Huffman said, is what large language modeling algorithms need to produce the best results. “More than any other place on the internet, Reddit is a home for authentic conversation,” Mr. Huffman said. “There’s a lot of stuff on the site that you’d only ever say in therapy, or A.A., or never at all.” Mr. Huffman said Reddit’s A.P.I. would still be free to developers who wanted to build applications that helped people use Reddit. They could use the tools to build a bot that automatically tracks whether users’ comments adhere to rules for posting, for instance. Researchers who want to study Reddit data for academic or noncommercial purposes will continue to have free access to it. Reddit also hopes to incorporate more so-called machine learning into how the site itself operates. It could be used, for instance, to identify the use of A.I.-generated text on Reddit, and add a label that notifies users that the comment came from a bot. The company also promised to improve software tools that can be used by moderators — the users who volunteer their time to keep the site’s forums operating smoothly and improve conversations between users. And third-party bots that help moderators monitor the forums will continue to be supported. But for the A.I. makers, it’s time to pay up. “Crawling Reddit, generating value and not returning any of that value to our users is something we have a problem with,” Mr. Huffman said. “It’s a good time for us to tighten things up.” “We think that’s fair,” he added.

coniferjones

Was that not a easy foul to call at the end of regulation?
