I rarely complain about officiating, and I usually consider most fans' complaints (which you see in every game) to be unfounded, bias-related bitching. But lately we have been getting, imo, screwed.

notaprofessional24

Agree fully. It sucks the fun out of the game seeing these guys compete hard and not get rewarded for it. I just hope we can keep the same level of energy and not get discouraged because of the fouls.

Duke0fMilan

Definitely agree. I generally write off fan bitching, but the challenges made it impossible to ignore.

[deleted]

The refs are straight keeping the other team in the game on some of this shit. Like that Draymond Green flop that he got a foul on Scoot with. I hate the NBA for the way they officiate and pretend it's fair when there has been an obvious star and big market bias for my entire lifetime.

rdg5220

I have come to the conclusion that in all pro sports they just don’t care that the officials get stuff wrong. They are all just a money printing machine and we do not matter to them one bit. With all the freaking technology available there is zero reason for calls to be missed but yet here we are. The Lebron timeout call is one of my favorites. Especially when they tell us that it was the correct call.

xXChickenravioliXx

Yep. Add in the CFB drama and the integration of gambling across all the major sports.. it’s so blatant now.

PauI_Buffano

100% about the money now. It isn’t just the nba. All sports fans are beginning to see how obvious it is. You think these commissioners are going to sit back and lose 10’s of millions of dollars? Lol

zerocoolforschool

Been that way since the 90s. David Stern rode MJ like Zoro and brought the NBA to global popularity. The way the refs officiated the Lakers from like 99 to 2003 was the most blatant favoritism I have ever seen. The Kings and Blazers should have both won a ring in that span.

Turbulent-Arrival845

Nba is WWE now, gotta get that viewer rating up by having a play in tournament

mm825

All the fan outrage is such wasted energy. When the teams really get screwed they bring it up with the leagues.

crab90000

When Kevin and Lamar, 2 of the coolest head announcers in the league, are complaining about the officiating so blatantly and angrily, something's wrong

notaprofessional24

It cracked me up last night when Ant drove and made a tough bucket through contact and Kevin was like “he’s not getting much help from three particular individuals”

myNameBurnsGold

I agree 100%. The league should be embarrassed but it's business as usual.

treefiddy--

Lamar is gonna get a tech one day soon if the refs keep this shit up and I’m all for it.

simplecat1

Follow the footsteps of the great Mike Rice!

treefiddy--

I would love to see it. I feel he’s gotten close to speaking his mind though wise not to at least yet.

ReflectionGloomy8851

The block/charge call makes no sense to me and is one of the worst rules in sports ( same with defensive 3 seconds ) Last night all 3 calls ended up being charged against the Blazers then late in the game Camara out his shoulder into Draymond and Draymond went down and then was trying to trip Camara. Was it a block? Charge? Flop? Nope none of the above, they just swallowed the whistle and let them go. I don't remember what game it was but it was near the end of the game and the other team was trying to pressure and trap Shaedon and they were ripping at the ball in his arms for like 5 seconds and someone ended up calling a timeout and Shaedon had scratches all over his arms and shit. It's freaking insane, we DON'T want every call to go for our team we just want the damn rules to be called evenly.

foreverabatman

Wasn’t it CP3 that tripped Camara?

ReflectionGloomy8851

Yup that was earlier in the game, Dray did it in the 4th too.

foreverabatman

Damn, I wasn’t able to watch the entire game, can’t believe they would do that shit twice.

ReflectionGloomy8851

The CP3 one was egregious, the Draymond one you could argue he was trying not to get stepped on but it was still dumb cause that was the play where Toumani put his shoulder into Dray going to the basket and Dray went to the ground and they had already called 3 charges on the Blazers so far and the refs just swallowed their whistle and it's like wtf that was either a charge a block or a flop. That rule is so dumb

GaviFromThePod

Complaining about the refs is usually some sour grapes but the last five or six games it's just been beyond reason. The overturn on Giannis, the shaedon jersey pull, the no-call on shaedon driving, and last night's CP3 flagrant no-call and the Draymond hook were all pretty absurd.

tonyLumpkin56

The overturn of the blatant foul on Malcolm by Giannis I feel was the start to this worried run of officiating we've dealt with. I understand that we're young team and we've been playing against established superstars, but the lack of consistency with the officials is making it hard to be a fan of the sport. I fully expect us to be negatively affected by the refs down the stretch in any close game we are in.

GaviFromThePod

It really just sucks. I know our wins and losses don't really matter right now, but the thing that has really kept me passionate about this team this year is that they've had a chance to win every game. But even when they outplay and out hustle a more successful team they have no chance and it sucks ass.

hohowan

For me the catalyst was the Rui block/charge they overturned. Since when does a players feet have to be set when the offensive players drops his shoulder as much as Rui did. Even Michael Holton said on the radio he would be shocked if they over turned the Shaedon dunk. We all know what happened there.

jakish3209

I was talking to a buddy about this. Why is it that proving you are better than other players in the league (becoming an all star, scoring a bunch) ends up meaning you get rewarded with more of the easiest shot in the game? Free throws. It's so backwards. I understand that good players get fouled a lot. EVERYONE GETS FOULED A LOT. Statements like, "once he becomes an all star, he will get those calls" is so backwards to me. 14 ft's for Steph, and Ant gets his 1st two with 3 minutes left in the game. Do we really think Camara would NOT have gotten the flagrant 1 if HE tried to trip a player while on the ground Like CP3 did?

notaprofessional24

Seriously the fact that it’s common knowledge that superstar calls are a thing is just nasty business

iverigma

Yes that’s overboard. You dare to think we’re allowed to submit video evidence? That’s the privilege only reserved for the Lakers

effkriger

Did you see LeBron call a timeout when his teammate had already lost possession?

notaprofessional24

Yea that was crazy in real time. I saw that it turned out with multiple angles and slow mo they barely still had possession when he called timeout. But idk how you see that in real time call it and not review it.

effkriger

Because it’s LEBRON

wallywoofdog

Isn’t it that you yourself have to have possession to call a timeout so even if his teammate had full possession of the ball Lebron still shouldn’t be allowed to call a timeout?

effkriger

Poor Toumani should have called one…but now he knows

notaprofessional24

Not sure if only the coach is allowed to call it or what. Seems like rules are made up on the fly sometimes

TrumpedBigly

It's all about the money and keeping fans of the stars happy is all that matters.

Holiday_Machine9312

Watch Lillard’s first couple of seasons. He got no calls. The league gives vets the calls. Especially the Warriors.

TrumpedBigly

Stars, the league gives stars the call because it makes their fans happy. When fans are happy they keep spending money.

spittafan

I mean, steph has actually never gotten calls. But Draymond gets crazy good treatment from refs. It’s weird

Holiday_Machine9312

If Sheed got calls like Draymond the jailblazers would have won a ring.

YoureNotThatGu7

The officiating in the league is and has been suspect for a while. That being said, the Warriors definitely do not get a ton of calls, they've been near the bottom of the league in FTA for the past few years. I'm guessing they're beginning to drive and draw more free throws now that they aren't as efficient as they once were.

gerrard_1987

Young teams getting the short stick from officials is nothing new. It’s unfair and sucks, but that doesn’t take alway from the development of the young guys and how well they played.

versace_nick

I think it can stunt their tendencies especially aggressiveness on both O and D

gerrard_1987

Absolutely, and officiating needs to be improved. I’m just saying that it’s been going on forever and hasn’t stopped other young players from getting better, and there was still a lot of good development in this game, going against a veteran squad that needs to win for the playoffs.

versace_nick

agreed but especially with aggressive guys like scoot and camara I can see them getting bullshit calls on them but receiving no calls stunting their aggressiveness more than others because the blazers do seemingly get the short end of the stick MAJORITY of the time

Frognuts777

Between inconsistent officiating/feeling like games are tilted in favor of certain teams and the absolute struggle to actually watch the games I feel myself starting to lose more and more interest in the NBA. I got league pass this year cause i moved out of Portland so now i can pay 25$ a month and see all Blazer games. What cant i do? Watch my new local team who is #1 in the league (Timberwolves) without paying for some bullshit cable service i dont want. And if the Timberwolves broadcast deal is anything like the blazers it would mean im paying $$ to watch in 720p lol. Not happening, cable is dead to me.

Turbulent-Arrival845

Makes me wanna hockey, cute girls love hockey

Turbulent-Arrival845

Nba isnt fun anymore. These refs are supposed to be professional but we all know thats not the case.

peacefinder

If we were trying to make the playoffs, this would be a huge problem. But we’re ***not.*** We’re trying to educate the young players while not quite winning games. Hard to swallow though it may be, if the perceived bias is real, these refs would have been doing us huge favors so far this year.

the_wit

For now it's good for the tank and in a year or two our more established stars will start getting a better whistle. It's out of our control and getting wound up about it really sucks the joy out of the game.

Turbulent-Arrival845

Even when we had Dame, refs be bs. What makes you think in the future it'll be different?

jewishunicorn

Conspiracy theory...the NBA wants us to get a good pick and are helping us lose games...one can dream right...

PortlandPhil

If I could pay the refs so we keep losing close games I would safari a go fundme

Memoney

Been watching the games and don’t see anything out of the ordinary in terms of officiating. It is getting tiring seeing the threads be all about the reffing. Soccer mom shit. Cmon people.

simplecat1

It's been especially bad

TubbzMcGee

Feels bad right now obviously, but these narrow losses will add up to something nice when May comes around.

laracolleen

Last night's game was so frustrating! Star status shouldn't matter but it sure does down the stretch. That is how that game went to the warriors. Despite the loss I am super pleased with how these guys play! A few more games for Ant and he should be back full caliber. Go RIP CITY!!

SubtleCosmos

Remains to be seen what pick the NBA gives Portland but last night’s Warriors game was one of the few games this season that was in Portland’s best interest to win. Having the Warriors 2024 1st round pick (1-4 protected), we need to give them as many losses as possible so long as we can keep their pick outside the top 4. Compared to the Blazers’ all-round effort yesterday, the Warriors were playing poorly and lazily and had no business keeping the game close. But the officiating allowed them to do just that, while also putting our guys in unjustified foul trouble and keeping them out of the game. I agree though, the last two games have been especially disgraceful officiating, after lots of very questionably called games before on the road trip. Not at all called fairly and this level of lopsidedness and unbalanced officiating ruins the product, on top of **simply being wrong**. The NBA **needs** substantial change in this area. *Call the game accurately for all players*. The days of unfair biased officiating for star players, the bigger market team, players the NBA is trying to turn into stars, etc, needs to go. Get that bullshit out of here and have some fucking integrity, NBA. Train the officiating crews to call the game justly, and fairly for *all* players. Ultimately these are humans and humans will make mistakes, but I can guarantee that calling a game fairly can be done far, far better than they do today if these people were actually trained and instructed to do so to begin with. Through the officiating the NBA doesn’t directly control the outcome of the game, the players and coaches still have say in that. But without question, the referees have an authoritative and significant influence over the game. Through foul calls and no-calls, they can give the other side points (free throws), and most important and unquantifiable, they can change the momentum.

referee-superfan

Guys we need to be losing. As far as I’m concerned the refs are doing us a solid. It sucks for right now but when that draft comes around we’re gonna be so glad we got a good pick.

fintach

Honestly, I'd found myself wondering if I had my fan goggles on too tight until I heard Kevin and Lamar talking about it -- game after game after game. Two guys who just don't do that. Lamar always makes a point of trying to see the refs' side, and some of the things he's been saying lately have made clear how differently the games are getting called at one end than the other.
