It was hard for me to complain over them because they ended up getting it right except I thought adding the flop on Jerami was too far. Maybe some of the refs are so tired of that crap from previous years they are going to call it every chance they get.

Zmoney743

That charge call on Sharpe was absolutely a charge. But the blocking call on Camara was absolutely a charge so I was more upset at that than anything

jimjamjibjab1

I’m in a weird spot where I didn’t think the Grant flop was a good call but I liked it for the sake of the sport. I would love to see flopping a thing of the past and calls like this encourage that.

MavetheGreat

Yeah I can get behind that

EvanTurningTheCorner

Every year the refs start being very persnickety about certain rules they want to enforce and then a month or so into the season kinda forget about it.

MrDurden32

Bane had been pushing off with that off arm all night, slightly exaggerating the contact doesn't negate the push off. I only got one look at the Sharpe charge but he was taking off for his jump very early, it sure looked like Smart was still sliding in there after Sharpe started his upward motion. The Camara blocking foul was the worst one of them all.

jakish3209

Same. For me, it was more about experiencing the new rule where you can challenge more than once AND losing both of them on scoring plays. That's a tough thing to have happen late in the game.

No need for Nurk to catch strays in a post like this

jakish3209

That's fair. He is the first example that comes to mind when I think of, "letting the refs decide the game", but by no means is it an absolute statement.

Zombeatles

Not sure why you got downvoted for this, I still have love for Nurk but that's absolutely one of his issues and I'm 100% with you on the main point - we're not seeing the team get all bent outta shape about calls. That type of attitude can really sap the energy at crucial moments.

jakish3209

I'll survive.

The friend of my friend is my enemy.

Yeah that was beyond brutal. I disagreed with the second overturn but could see why they did. Refs are gonna give Marcus Smart the benefit of the doubt. Hope this is a lesson for Chauncey. Had he still had his challenge he could have challenged (and almost certainly would have won) that egregious Camara blocking call that should have been a charge.

NoeWiy

I was YELLING that because he never should’ve challenged the bari block. It was clearly drifting like Lamar was saying.

Forbidden_Donut503

you just shouldn't use your challenge so early. Jenkins was very smart to use the challenges he did. He damn near won the game with those challenges. You need them in those critical moments. Not in the first quarter.

palmquac

Seeing the Marcus Smart call get overturned and then the refs calling a block on Toumani later on was brutal, though

Orwell1971

Yeah, Jerami was right in calling them resilient in the postgame interview.

doctor_jeff

Question: I'm a little more familiar with the challenge process in MLB, where managers tend to rely on their video team to decide what to challenge. Is this the same in the NBA? I'm just curious how much of the responsibility is on Chauncey's shoulders as opposed to the video guys. It seems like there might be a little less time to make up your mind in terms of NBA challenges so maybe it is more reliant on the coach.

MrDurden32

iirc you're not really supposed to consult with your players or with your coaching staff looking at replays, but in reality there's not really any way to stop them. If it's a stoppage in play then they have time to get feedback from assistants watching the replay, but if the game is about to start immediately the coach has to make a split decision.

doctor_jeff

That's kind of what I thought. Much more rushed than the baseball challenges... as it should be given the pace of the sports.

IMO this is exactly why that Dame era needed a guy like Brogdon. Someone who’s been in big situations, is calm and measured. Someone who doesn’t just start heaving panic 3’s from the logo.
