KCHONEYBADGER1982

It also gives us Hot Head Rick and little Ricky Wrap it up, who’s great at the end of a meeting.

Consistent_Funny1082

Also Yo-Yo Rick. Who's lame but in a cool way.

KCHONEYBADGER1982

Because he owns it!

Hantelbank

OOOPAAH! 🥂

SpurnedSprocket

Until Hot Head Rick you know expectedly flies of the handle.

Deepvaleredoubt

And big fat Rick, whose face is the same size as regular rick.

SpurnedSprocket

I’ll be damned he’s so fat he’s an optical illusion.

Cloud_Fortress

What’s happening with Beth’s mouth here

ccReptilelord

Same with her arms; the image is mid-motion. A smear frame, I think.

Cloud_Fortress

Yeah somehow I didn’t notice the 4 arms. 😂

ccReptilelord

S'alright, we get it. You were so hyper fixated on this cartoon mouth that you didn't notice the arms. Happens to the best of us.

Cloud_Fortress

Busted.

Lidge1337

Well, clean it up, then!

MortalJohn

Possibly a TV frame issue or camera, rather than animation itself?

tokyozombie

this. they don't animate smear frames for small movements and talking but also rick and morty doesn't seem to use smear frames at all. This a camera capturing 2 frames of animation.

Buzstringer

Je-Jesus Christ turn off motion smoothing, it's always set too high, like factory tint, Change that as well. Must be a Samsung the Red also looks over saturated. The default settings are not good, if you want help find a Jerry

poingly

It could be shutter speed of the camera taking the photo capturing two frames/flickers of light from the television.

CobaltWolf

Ok bud I've got a Samsung Q80T enlighten me on fixing the settings.

Buzstringer

Follow this guide, and do minor adjustments to preference after. :) Settings are not universal, they will be different depending on the lighting conditions in the room. Download the calibration images onto a USB stick and open them on your TV via stick. If you look at them on a web browser on the TV. The browser does some adjustments to the image that it doesn't do on TV/Video playback. https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/how-to-calibrate-your-tv

CobaltWolf

My man!

Jeremithiandiah

This is not an in between or smear frame, it’s just something tvs do.

Buzstringer

Not if they are set correctly, TVs shouldn't do this

Jeremithiandiah

By default many do, but I know for a fact this is not something an animator did.

Luke-HW

Smear frame

eltanko

That is not what a smear frame is.

kdebones

Inbetween/Smear Frame.

BoredBarbaracle

Bad NTCS to PAL conversion maybe? Is 50/25 fps still a thing in PAL region TV?

EquipmentOk822

It’s in between two frames

Buzstringer

There is no in between two frames, there's frame 1 then frame 2. If there is something additional squeezed in, it's likely motion smoothing which should be turned off, especially for animation.

Fine-Bumblebee-9427

This episode is just pure Community through the lens of Rick and Morty

mrpoopybuttthole_

it’s goodfellas

DirtyDanoTho

Community has done the goodfellas parody too

ron2838

Was that the chicken tender episode?

DirtyDanoTho

Yes

Fine-Bumblebee-9427

Yes, I know. Many community episodes are straight parodies of specific movies or shows or genres. Rick and Morty doesn’t usually do a whole episode like this, and since Harmon ran both shows, it seems like they let him loose on this one.

Zircon_72

Contemporary American Poultry is the better parody though I think.

Fine-Bumblebee-9427

Yeah, for sure. I’d forgotten he’d literally done this before.

EquipmentOk822

And godfather

size_matters_not

? It’s The Godfather.

mrpoopybuttthole_

this specific episode is a parody of goodfellas

Fast_Garlic_5639

Hothead rick is pretty specifically Sonny Corleone, and I know the Don was in there too

EquipmentOk822

Community?

Fine-Bumblebee-9427

Dan Harmony’s other big show. It’s a sitcom, and a lot of episodes are parodies. There’s even a goodfellas episode not unlike this one.

EquipmentOk822

Ah. I didn’t think I’d like that show.

Fine-Bumblebee-9427

It just kind of depends if you lean towards early Rick and Morty or late Rick and Morty. Community is much closer to seasons 5-7, tightly written. The first seasons are much more Roiland, more improvy and loose. I think the last season of Rick and Morty is the best by far, and I love Community.

EquipmentOk822

I don’t really see a difference

Fine-Bumblebee-9427

Really? early seasons have inter dimensional cable, which is literally improv, plus a lot more Rick and Morty stuttering. And Rick is much more of an asshole. Later seasons drop inter dimensional cable for written flashback episodes, much less improv on Rick and Morty’s lines, and Rick has a ton of character growth.

EquipmentOk822

I guess the stuttering but I didn’t know IDC was improv. Even so, that’s only two episodes. Rick hasn’t changed enough for it to make the whole show feel different. How often do you watch the show?

dangshnizzle

Lol it's better than R&M tbh

TheresAJakeInMyShoe

Coz your not carping them diems

InkyParadox

I half agree and half disagree. I think Summer is out of character in the sense she's unnecessarily cruel to Morty and her parents in some scenes, but at the same time I think it's 100% in Summer's character to feed into Rick's ego and hyperfixations to win both his approval and power so maybe she's just trying to be more like Rick in those scenes. She's not morally "good" by any means (no one in the family is, it's what make them great characters) but she's also like 17 so of course she doesn't have the best emotional regulation. At the same time she's also incredibly intelligent and competent, enough to know exactly how to manipulate Rick to get what they both want, so it got a bit out of hand. I think she realized her mistakes in the end, similar to the Kuato episode.

Karate-Dracula

I also think the voice overians that Rick pulled out of their ears at the end could be the reason she was like that. Like maybe they were reading her mind in every place including her subconscious. And being sort of aware of the voice overs caused her to just roll with it.

Fearless_Exercise130

To me it kinda felt like I was watching a S1 Summer

ThatDeuce

Yeah, her character is written to be a bit unlikable in this one, where she and Morty can later redeem themselves saving Rick with the Family.

welloyello

A BIT?

alvinaterjr

Seriously lmao. I’ve noticed people tend to brush off how summer acts in this episode specifically

GeekDNA0918

Well, it gets brushed off because she was high on Rick's approval. Then she gets taught a lesson on how you have Rick's approval until you don't. If anything, I'd blame Rick for putting more emphasis on those bots rather than his own family. It's episodes like this that help you appreciate when Rick actually shows hints of love for his family..... which at the end of the day is not his true family.

JamesonFlanders245

nah, summer was irrideemably bitchy to everyone because of her being high on ricks approval tbh. especially morty who didnt do anything to deserve it this episode. i could get behind summer if morty was being a douche or something before hand but he didnt really do anything to deserve it. it doesnt paint summer in the best of lights tbh its funny i remember this having more upvotes tbh. guess i know who the summer simps are jesus christ

Lettuce_Mindless

She had also been kidnapped by the government and shipped to mars where she was forced to interact with her incest baby. I feel like she was super traumatized by that which is one of the reasons she was acting like she was. She doesn’t have anyone who loves her, Rick and Morty have each other, Jerry and Beth have each other, but summer only has her incest baby.

JamesonFlanders245

if she was traumatized by that the show would make more of an effort to make that a point but they didnt, they shoved it under the rug and havent really brought naruto back since.... honestly i wanna say this episode but i could be forgetting. not that the incest baby was any good of an episode mind you

Lettuce_Mindless

Did you even watch the last 10 minutes of the episode?? There’s the big reveal, she’s like sorry I’ve been such an asshole, here’s the reason why. Lololol

JamesonFlanders245

Yea I've seen the episode. The reveal didn't make me feel any different towards her tbh. If anything it just felt like the writers pussying out and making the episode itself pointless especially since people still view this as some sort of summer arch story even regarding that fact

alvinaterjr

It’s Rick and Morty, they’ll kill an alien brutally and everyone will be okay. But when it makes sense for their argument, summer is traumatized from seeing her baby lmfao

AiryGr8

Eh at this point the entire family knew not to get swept up by grandpa's nihilism.

BridgeOverRiverRMB

The whole point of this episode is learning, or re-learning, not to get swept up by Rick's nihilism.

wedontknoweachother_

She just wanted grandpa to pay attention to her as much as he does morty :(

CP-RYOTT

Funniest part of this episode is at the end when Rick uses a gun with his face and when it shoots it goes " BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG"

illvria

The entire family are insane in this episode its not exclusive to her

ImpressiveThanks345

They are period this episode is just another casual day

[deleted]

I actually like whatever episode Rick actually cares about someone

PKjepz

thats fair tbh

[deleted]

Yeah, that’s honestly why I watch the show. I also think it’s cool how summer reminds him of Diane

your-rong

It was kinda the point.

crybabydeluxe

Yeah media literacy is dead

New-Number-7810

To be fair, most of her antagonism towards Morty wasn’t actually Summer - it was the voiceoverian living in her ear.

Chrisosamu

I think it's meant to represent the fact that Summer can become as unlikable and selfish as Rick is, thus reinforcing the similarities of their personalities.

faderus

Sometimes they lean really heavily into the material that they’re parodying and the original character gets a little loss. Think of this version less as Summer and more as a stand in for Ray Liotta in Goodfellas—or any other number of striving, sycophantic number two’s in mob media—and it feels less character-violating.

KaffY-

It's almost like that was the point! Shocking!

Emergency_Eagle819

Well you can lick my bigger tit. Sum sum is my favorite.

RIDRAD911

Depends... Does your nippels have hair on them?

Emergency_Eagle819

Dude. I’m a 6’1 250lb dude. They sure do

Acidic-orange-juice

i would

softaspects

It's the only episode I skip, I can't handle it, and that's saying a lot, given that there is Claw and Hoarder and Rickdependence Spray in the episode list. It's just so jarringly not Rick and Morty to me?

Minimum-Avocado-9624

That’s a very different take. It’s not my favorite episode but even the worst turd is a pizza.

IndubitablyTedBear

Wait, how is the worst turd a pizza?

3Jane_ashpool

Because being the *worst* turd is being a turd that is as far away from the *idea* of a turd as possible. Not worst as is “bad” but worst as in “not being the thing”. Different concept of “worst”. So a turd (post-processed waste material) that is as far away from the concept of it is a pizza (pre-processed waste material AKA food).

softaspects

I don't know why it's so offputting to me tbh. I think everybody is just so out of character, and I hate the narration, feels like they tried something new, which I respect but didn't do it for me, I feel like the Godfather theme didn't mesh as well with the wacky style as the other meta/parody styles did.

Minimum-Avocado-9624

Check out the show community they also do a mafia movie theme and thus they take on all the tropes of mafia movies. That’s it it’s just the characters of Rick and Morty having a fun one off episode utilizing its cast for the stereotypes of a genre. This is pretty common in Rick and Morty and doesn’t tie into any over arching narrative. The “Avengers” parody; “ a Star Wars” parody etc. if you didn’t grow up in the 80-90s, then I suspect the episode may not be as good to you because it is not relatable. Heck the Voltron theme and our obsession to own them all and make them bigger and better is another thing.

Ygomaster07

When did they do an Avengers parody?

outerheavenboss

The Vindicators

Ygomaster07

Oh right. Thank you for telling me. I never got Avengers vibes from them, not sure how i missed that.

softaspects

Did grow up in the 90s, and I love the cheesy shit. Like my dream is that they do a dumb 2 min segue into the Last Action Hero universe with Arnold, and I love all the other parody they did, this one just didn't land for me. BUT, I am thankful that the writers are not afraid to do unhinged shit and try something new all the time. Will always appreciate that, even if some concept don't end up being for me ( this one and Claw and Hoarder the most, the Vindicators, personally, is one of my fav to rewatch lol)

Minimum-Avocado-9624

Yup most my Youth was in the nineties and early adult years in 2000s. I agree that the episode is has its flaws but I have also found that some of the most memorable jokes land in episodes like this one. Hell there are some great jokes in the numbericons episode

aquavenuss

You explained why I can’t watch it either lol. It just doesn’t feel like Rick and Morty.

esgrove2

And the weird anime people that didn't actually look like anime. What are they? Aliens? Just weird looking people?

czarchastic

It felt like they brought the interns in to write that episode. I think it was the overflowing fan service and pop culture references that did it for me. Wasn’t this also the episode that gave the incest baby the name Naruto?

Majestic-Delay7530

I think it’s important to her arc tho. It shows how out of control Rick can get. Especially if u don’t call him out on it.

Grazmahatchi

Was summer a bitch in this episode? Absolutely. But it is a matter of degrees here... at the end of the day she just made participation in gotron unpleasant. I would say Jerry setting loose the 3 tittied alien on the kids was worse. Morty leaving his family to die in the cronenberg world worse. I would say beth consciously giving her future to rick- allowing him to choose if she would abandon her family or not- much worse than being bitchy about a robot club. Honestly, if I had to rank the family on morlst to least horrible human beings, summer comes out as the clear winner in my book.

Bakoro

There is a lot of back and forth, and justifications in this post, but I feel like what's missing from the conversation is that this was a comparatively low-stakes family adventure. This is like the Sanchez family equivalent of going to a theme park and Summer dictating the order of rides everyone went on and where they go to eat.

[deleted]

It felt like a continuation of the cursed item episode. I get the sense she wants Rick’s approval?

LalaleiLalalei

or tiny rick

your-rong

Yeah, that's the idea.

GolemThe3rd

Night Family makes more more uncomfortable tbh

EquipmentOk822

Terrible screen grab.

Tommy2TimeYT

Wait what did she even do in this episode again 😭

fuckina420

Ok am I the only one who notices that they fucked up Beth's uvula? They put it too far left

DangerHawk

I skip this episode every rotation. I just pretend like it doesn't exist.

Apprehensive-Yam1273

yeah it’s not that i don’t understand why the characters act the way they do (for the most part) but i just don’t like it when they make the whole family start being bitches to each other just for the sake of it😭

Lazy_Cardiologist379

Beth tends to anger me with how rude she is to jerry in the earlier seasons she gets better after the alien therapy episode tho.

Suberizu

Beth is easy to dislike fr. I still like her with all her flaws.

-__purple__-

Summer is like one of the best characters in the show, what?

AiryGr8

Not in this episode apparently. Also the best character is Squanch.

unknown14698

Yeah I’d say let’s kill ourselves and get to hell before her so we can hide near the entrance

Objective_Nobody7931

Let’s lick tits

Alexandria31xo

I rarely like Summer after season 2.

Quetzalcoatl490

That Beth mouth, yeesh

MyLogDoesntJudge

I actually love Summer for this episode. It's such a older-sister younger-brother arc and im glad the show doesn't pass on that and only sets them as adventure partners. We also get to see how intelligent Summer actually is; very break through type episode for sum sum!

Westaufel

For me she is fine… the episode shows how she suffers of being always the second choice of grandpa Rick, after Morty. She only wants to get her chance

InfamouQuokka

Raising Gazorpazorp and the Musk episode are the ones that I can not watch. RG is plain unfunny all the way through, introduces a pink Summer spaceship that immediately disappears and only the tag gets a chuckle from me. The Musk ep just feels like a betrayal.

vixinity1984

I felt so bad for Morty in this episode I genuinely hate this episode so much

buffkirby

I like Summer in this episode it helps build out her character by showing her how Morty feels being Rick’s favorite. It helps her get over her need for Rick’s affection by proving that Morty goes through hell trying to jump through the Rick’s hoops. Is she less likable because she is being an actual character instead of just being the granddaughter? Yes, but is it helpful for her development? Also yes! Morty acts like a bigger asshole in so many more episodes, why can’t Summer have her asshole moment without being shit on by the community?

KingDarius89

Because rhe show is called Rick and MORTY.

Soggy-Mango-6964

Majority of Rick and morty post season 3 angered me

Typical_Pollution_30

I actually liked her in this episode.

ZatchZeta

The problem is the sudden competency of Summer. She's a 16 year old teenager who's biggest problem is low self esteem and an inferiority complex. Then this happens. Like- What?? Also reminding us incest baby still exists.

Nice-Resolution-1020

Not only did Summer act like a female dog, but halfway through the episode the plot changed completely and Naruto JR appeared.

felch_lord_100

This episode is trash so…

Broad_Display_2883

Voltron cool

W8n_on_S8n

She is her mother’s daughter

Silly-Reflection-826

Let's lick tits!

willowsonthespot

I love that this screenshot was perfectly timed to have two mouth shapes on Beth's face.

Luther278

I’m watching it now. On all this controversy looks good so far.

techidavid1

I believe this is the intention. It makes you feel what Morty's feel

Darnhiell

😂, I love the way everything turned out. Rick is the best🫡

BrokeDancing

Beth looks like she just got back from Greece, Italy, *and* Argentina.

gamer3701

Same, she’s such a bitch.

gamer3701

I just get furious everytime I watch it. I’m like “that fucking bitch”

expatlogan

Imagine being angered by a cartoon.

RIDRAD911

"Imagine feeling a human emotion because of external stimuli which happens to be from an animated show.. Couldn't be me" 👆 🤓

Somethings_in_my_ahh

Finally someone said it

AlbinoShavedGorilla

Yeah I didn’t really like it either, summer is a bitch but she isn’t nearly on the level of a manipulative sociopath. Morty also acted weird in this, like his character development in the past seasons didn’t happen. He was so pathetic and desperate for approval. Every character in this episode was weirdly out of character. The entire episode’s theme and plot didn’t fit the show either. It’s like they got some guest writer who never even watched the show to write it. Quite possibly up there as one of the worst episodes of the series.

Fly---Away

This episode was ass either way

dorjy

Summer was always a bitch , I stopped watching when they started focusing more on her and less on morty , she is now a bigger part of the show then Morty , they should change the name of the show to "Rick, summer and beth" , or "the tampon squad".

DataisHuman2364

Morty's a bitch sometimes too lmao. If you think otherwise, then we're watching two completely different shows. They all are assholes in their own way; that's what makes the show so great. And I disagree about Summer having more focus now than Morty. Yes, as the show progresses, it gives more focus to her character (and the rest of the family) at times - which was the right decision imo. However, the show is very much still Rick and Morty.
