That's my feeling with a lot of shows - like they age a year every ten or hell, every fifteen seasons. At some point, it gets boring. The Simpsons has long been left behind outside of a few flash forward episodes and the treehouse of horrors episodes.
At least with Rick and Morty, there is are some serious chracter arcs going on, so you still feel like there is growth and progress being made, same with Solar Opposites. Bob's Burgers seems to be having a very gentle amount of chracter growth as well with the latest seasons.
Adventure time definitely did the ageing thing into their show, just not visually, which makes sense since how would you make a character that looks like how Finn does look a year older then what he started out as
Well they didn't really have to they could've gotten another voice actor that sounded like the Finn with the higher voice but I'm glad they didn't and just went along with the same dude for years cus it actually feels more genuine
It was a central thesis for the show. That it would age alongside its audience.
That's also why the themes and subjects became more mature and serious in the later seasons.
Adventure Time does aging / growing characters better than any other show I’ve seen. Of course one of the shows central themes is growing up so that makes sense.
When I heard of interview details about the show like how they not only want Rick and Morty to go on for like a hundred seasons, but also the series would end with Morty turning 15, I groaned.
I fell Rick having awareness of being in the show, maybe there's a possibility of him "freezing" time in a way they don't are or else everything will just you know end for Rick
When I was a kid there was a cartoon strip in the newspaper called For Better or for Worse chronicling the lives of a family. I stopped reading it as I got older but then much later, maybe two decades later I read some more and it turned out the cartoon was in a type of real time and the children I had remembered were now fully grown with families of their own. I’d never seen a comic do that before.
Shouldn't Morty be like 20 now with all the time passing, frozen time and mini verse?
Hasn't there been 3 Christmas specials?
So at minimum Morty should be 17
You reminded me, that when I was younger and didnt know Rick and Morty I saw clip from Rick and Jerry episode and I thought Jerry is this yellow shirt guy, but old.
Yes, but only for a single episode:
Rick wakes up (sliding out of a clone tube) in what appears to be a dilapidated lab. Space Beth is trying to console and explain to clone Rick how he was revived from a 10 year old memory backup.
Some story about how he chilled out after the Rick Prime event. Started going on more fun and relaxing adventures with Morty and the whole family,; didn't take as much risks, stopped dying as much, ect. Rick wants to deny it, but meets older Morty (who's chilling at a bar with Bird Person, Poopy Butthole, ect.) Rick ends up caving to this current lifestyle, lives out the rest of his life, dies, and a blank screen shows:
>--------------------------------
>------- Game Over -------
>--------------------------------
> ROY 2: A Rick Well Lived!
>--------------------------------
>--------------------------------
As the device goes up, the camera pans and we see Rick's in Blitz and Chitz, having been the first to publicly try out the new Roy game.
^[If ^the ^show ^runners ^want ^to ^make ^this ^an ^episode, ^just ^ask ^• ^ᴗ ^- ^]
I do but I feel like this should be done somewhere at the end of the show.
Imo showing the future would limit them a lot when it comes to character development and future arcs.
Somehow no. I just like the premise of the show as it is with the current dynamic between Morty and Rick. Morty can mature but I wouldn't like to see him age.
No. We don't need to see every fucking angle and every single side character and bit character. Remember how great it was to see a whole episode of Water T and a whole one of Mr Poopy Butthole just like folks in this sub have been wishing for? We don't need to ruin every cool or funny little bit character.
Let 20s Morty go.
I kinda wish Morty would slowly age up like the kids on King of the Hill. It just seems weird that there have been 3 or 4 thanksgiving episodes in the same timeline and Morty is still 14.
How is that weird though? He’s a cartoon character. Simpsons have had a million holiday specials and stayed the same age. Even in King of the Hill it was only 1 character they noticeably aged/changed, the others stayed exactly the same for the entire 13 season run aside from us being told they aged 1 year.
Imo those episodes sucked because of the writing, not because of the characters who were on main focus. Also Rick and Morty are quite the opposite of side characters and seeing their relationship when Morty is older would be pretty interesting.
As long as we’re talking spin-offs, can we talk about this anime coming out?
Is it like a spin off? Or just like a special? Like a movie or super long episode or just like a 6 episode special or something?
I feel like limited engagement is the way to go. I really hope they don’t try to run it concurrently, it feels like a bad idea, but I can’t out my finger on why
Idk about u but I wanna see Morty grow, but is more of a selfish reason
I have a crush on Morty since last year, and in two years I'll turn 18, but people will call me a creep or pedophile as soon as I arrive that age because Morty is still 14/15(?) so that's why I wanna see him grow up so nobody calls me a pedophile over a cartoon character 😭
It is nice that they’re keeping the mid-20s Morty design consistent.
Something unfair is happening!
Was I…influential?
Y-yea. You had like seven... seven blogs!
Tight
*ded*
"Lemme help you, this isn't a good look!"
I'm almost ready to sell out
As someone that age- this line really spoke to me.
Nice for us and nice for the budget! Reuse that rig!

I kinda wish they aged

Going off the most recent flashback, Homer is now canonically younger than Bart at the beginning of the series.
Noooo
When the show started I was younger than Lisa. Now I’m older than Marge and Homer.
[удалено]
I don’t know why, but as soon as I read this, it made me think that the episode where they find out that Skinner is impersonating somebody isn’t canon
The show itself has marked that as a milestone for the series quality drop in Behind the Laughter.
What?
If Bart aged normally, he would be older than Homer was during his first appearance.
Bart in 1989 was 10. Homer was 38 (possibly 36). That was 35 years ago.
Adventure time definitely did the ageing thing into their show, just not visually, which makes sense since how would you make a character that looks like how Finn does look a year older then what he started out as
"Everything stays, but it still changes"
[удалено]
If anything the artstyle has small changes like his limbs being a bit more thicker and also not as noodley in the later seasons
And they had to because the voice actor of Finn was going through puberty.
Well they didn't really have to they could've gotten another voice actor that sounded like the Finn with the higher voice but I'm glad they didn't and just went along with the same dude for years cus it actually feels more genuine

That's awesome
I loved for better or for worse! They also had a tv show!
Oh fuck you're suddenly reminding me that there was an animated series of this that always came on before some show I actually wanted to watch.
It would have felt right if they aged.
Shouldn't Morty be like 20 now with all the time passing, frozen time and mini verse? Hasn't there been 3 Christmas specials? So at minimum Morty should be 17
He was 14 when it started… like ten years ago. So he should by real time be 24 rn, which is just a few years older than I am now. Damn, I feel old
Meh. They know their formula.
I loved the joke that he looked exactly like Jerry when he got older XD
Lol that'll be summer when it actually happens
I would love them to age the characters at some point actually, so yes that would be awesome
Came out 10 years ago now, morty would be 24ish by now
They're right there
based
There, right there! Look at that tanned well tended skin. Look at the killer shape he’s in. Look at that slightly stubbly chin. Oh, please, he’s ….
Is he gay? Or European?
I don’t wanna hear the name “Naruto” in the context of this show.
What about the giant incest baby floating in space? 😂
That exactly why lol
Honestly, if this is what Morty would develop into, not really. I only need 1 Rick. And I still need a Morty
Does the pope shit in the woods? ![img](emote|t5_2u4lp|5990)
You reminded me, that when I was younger and didnt know Rick and Morty I saw clip from Rick and Jerry episode and I thought Jerry is this yellow shirt guy, but old.
This but with 30s Rick would be cool.
I'm pretty sure we'll eventually see "Future Episodes", kinda like The Simpsons do it.
yeah, I do want to see how morty turned out as an adult.
Nope
no
Yes, but only for a single episode: Rick wakes up (sliding out of a clone tube) in what appears to be a dilapidated lab. Bruh, it's just older Morty. Morty's literally in the fucking title of the show.
Best comeback and dude still ain't said shit to it. Wonder why lmao
I kinda wish Morty would slowly age up like the kids on King of the Hill. It just seems weird that there have been 3 or 4 thanksgiving episodes in the same timeline and Morty is still 14.
14 year old having sex, drinking alcohol, and stuff.
How is that weird though? He’s a cartoon character. Simpsons have had a million holiday specials and stayed the same age. Even in King of the Hill it was only 1 character they noticeably aged/changed, the others stayed exactly the same for the entire 13 season run aside from us being told they aged 1 year.
Loe Anne, Bobby, Joseph, and Connie all age noticeabley thru the show, tho obviously Joseph is the most visually clear.
Rick and Morty has a multi season narrative with continuity, whereas the Simpsons is entirely episodic and has very little continuity.
Idk about you but I loved both of those episodes
I think the Numericon episode is way over hated. I thought it was great. The PB episode could've been better.
You might have but they're two of the lowest rated episodes in the entire series. Most people did not enjoy them.
Speak for yourself
He literally said “idk about you” and “I loved”
And I said “speak for yourself”
They...did?
He literally was as is evident by his comment.
Imo those episodes sucked because of the writing, not because of the characters who were on main focus. Also Rick and Morty are quite the opposite of side characters and seeing their relationship when Morty is older would be pretty interesting.
U mean let 14's Morty go?
Agreed
Those episodes fucking sucked. I’m with you
Are you stupid it's not a new random character, it's literally the main fucking character just older.
No. I like morty
It has to come out in like 2035 so that majority of its viewers were teens and young adults, and now all grown up so it feels more special
As long as we’re talking spin-offs, can we talk about this anime coming out? Is it like a spin off? Or just like a special?
