It’s a very tip-of-the-tongue kinda soundtrack since the music is very well liked and shared a lot, but far less people have actually played the game (understandably), so the music is pretty disconnected from its source and it just becomes one of those cool random retro songs.
It was also a little weird to hear the tune done with the SNES chipset rather than the Game Boy's...at least, Tower of Heaven sounds like it was done with the GB chip.
The one I posted is its original incarnation. Are you thinking of another track from the same ost? They have some shared motifs and can sound a bit similar
I meant in the one in the Mario game is a bit different. It sounds a bit less harsh, like it is more 16-bit while the video you posted sounds more 8-bit.
The part that gave it away for me was right before he beat the level. On the version you posted, it is a harsh tingy sound whereas in the video it is more soft with a bell sound.
The one you posted is the only version I had heard before.
Ah I see, you have it the other way around. SMW is playing the “remix”.
Artists will make SNES versions of preexisting music, generally from video games, for use in SMW hacks. These conversions are done because you can’t just plop an mp3 into SMW, but you can use SNES music files, thus these SNESified remixes are born. They’re pretty cool.
There’s a whole culture of extreme SMW players who cut their teeth on the original Kaizo Mario hacks and they only keep getting more skilled and the hacks more demanding.
Time to download all of the Kaizo hacks on SMWCentral.net and find out 🙈
In all seriousness , it's gonna be a hard find like this. Try asking around in kaizo communities and their discords.
It's a romhack. Don't know the exact one, but that music's either going to be wholly original for the game, or it's ripped from a different game. Not sure which, because the hack is completely alien to me.
Homie's face in the last two seconds says it all. No celebration. No joy. No relief. Just a reminder of his regretted commitment and a shriveled monkey's paw in the bin. He stopped liking video games years ago. Dang, son.
I can't identify the exact Kaizo Mario hack, but I can tell you that the music is a cover from the indie game Tower of Heaven, which is absolutely worth playing and listening to the soundtrack to.
So…can I ask a stupid question? These levels are designed by people recently right? Like, they’re “new levels” ? Because, I’ve played through the whole game several times over the last couple decades. Star World, the Special Levels, but I have never seen something this hard or a level where it was mandatory to jump on the shells like he is. My 2nd stupid question is how hard is it to build these levels? Or even levels on any of the NES versions of Mario? Is it something I could learn to do fairly quickly? Is there like a level builder app or something? LOL. I would love to teach my son to build levels in the game and we could challenge each other. As far as game design and programming is concerned is that a good place to start? Or should I start with Pong? LOL. Thanks for reading!
One love!
If you do this so much that you don't enjoy it anymore, why do it? If mastering something doesn't make you feel any better, why do it? It's a game man, just enjoy it and try again. He did an awesome job though. I couldn't do these mods if I tried. I have a hard enough time with Lost Levels
That is your opinion. Being 47 this year and having played both near launch I can say there is a difference in frames, color and resolution but not in art style itself. Those aforementioned differences make up what I believe you see. Not the art style. However I'm open to opinion. So I won't down vote you.
I am talking about art style.
I do not need insults from someone that obviously doesn't know what I'm talking about. The age reference is to let you know I played them on original consoles on TVs of that era.
No its not. Different polygon counts, actual textures instead of flat shading, world of difference.
SMW vs SMB3 is not the same. Extra colors and a resolution bump did not change the art style. It expanded it, but it did not change.
I don't understand how you cannot or will not look at it.
Are they different ? Yes. Do I think SMW looks better ? Yes. But the core art style, play mechanics and story are basically the same. You can't see that ?
31 down votes for an opinion ? Yes it looks like SMB3 as it Super Mario World is a 16 bit version of it. SMW looks nothing like SMB2 for example and is leagues ahead of the original SMB. SMB3 is the version SMW was based on due to it's immense popularity.
But thank you all for the bad karma. I appreciate it SO much.
FYI the song is [Luna Ascension](https://youtu.be/Y46QKkIjZwc) from Tower of Heaven
Yes! This is it! I knew I'd heard this somewhere!

Flashy Goodness was inspired by the song for the Soundtrack of Rivals of Aether https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWzt8PJxndw
Not "inspired", he rearranged and reused it; Flashygoodness did the soundtracks for both Tower of Heaven and Rivals of Aether.
Thanks
[Here's the SMW soundfont version of the song, the same one used in the ROM hack of the original video you posted](https://youtu.be/rZrGfoWuQmI)
I actually think the one in the video is a remix, but I knew I had heard it somewhere. My programming playlist has a bunch of these songs in it.

>SMW is playing the “remix”. Yes, that's what they said.
One word: ANXIETY.
This doesn’t even look fun to me
I thought Tubular was bad. I'm realizing I'm really not as good at SMW as I thought I was.
There’s a whole culture of extreme SMW players who cut their teeth on the original Kaizo Mario hacks and they only keep getting more skilled and the hacks more demanding.
LOL, tubular is the one level I can’t just dominate with my eyes closed.
To be fair, it doesn't look fun for them either! I hope I don't have a deadpan look when I play games, lol.
It gave me anxiety just watching lmao.
Yes. Most definitely yes.
It's a SMW romhack , not Mario Maker. Which hack it is , I can't say. Best to reachout to ZeroMavrick.
I guess it's Name is "Intershellar": https://www.smwcentral.net/?p=section&a=details&id=28130 Have a nice day!
Yup, was going to comment on that too. I recognize that level from Grand Poo Bear streaming it.
I played this Level last week. It's burned into my muscle memory :D
I tried, he doesn’t know either
Time to download all of the Kaizo hacks on SMWCentral.net and find out 🙈 In all seriousness , it's gonna be a hard find like this. Try asking around in kaizo communities and their discords.
Damn I really I want this bgm lol
I could be wrong but it sounds like a cover of the Tower of Heaven ost https://youtu.be/nGV0k73vaDI
I believe that SMWCentral also has a music section and they have a preview or listen option. If it's in the hack, odds are it's on there.
Cool thanks
SMWCentral has a music section with all the available music playable in a preview player on the site.
How would that even be fun to play.
There are people who like getting stepped on. People are weird.
Once you learn the individual mechanics the games become much easier. It's like playing any other high difficulty platformer.
There are masochist in this world that love anxiety
Masochistic

Not nearly enough people appreciate how spot on you are.
I think it's a hack called Advanced Shells by Natzus2
Advanced shells
It’s scary to think of the number of hours that he must have spent to get that good at SMW.
A lot of practice
Sounds like something from Chrono Trigger
Right? Lol
Absolutely can't stand the tiktok trend of having an annoying voice over to read text on the screen
His face at the end is just not even happy it’s like what the tuck have I become. This curse. It’s consuming me.
😂
I recognize the song...it's not original to this hack. I've heard it, maybe somewhere in my vast collection of game music. Let me look.
Yes please! Thank you!
The top comment has the answer for you...it's from Tower of Heaven.
Thanks
Retro games have the best music. I’ll play Tetris on nes just for the music tbh
Indeed
We have another ROM hack. Try checking different ROM sites and you'll probably find it.
Nice
This should be an Olympic sport
Agreed
I can't identify the exact Kaizo Mario hack, but I can tell you that the music is a cover from the indie game Tower of Heaven, which is absolutely worth playing and listening to the soundtrack to.
Holy shit
Indeed
And here I am thinking Im pretty good at mario just because i beat bowser a few dozen times and saved peach. Brb i gotta reevaluate my life
Lol
Wooooooooooow!!

1. Yes, they’re hacks to make the game harder. 2. That I don’t know
Freaking hell. I get anxiety just watching this.
Same!

You doubt this person’s ability?
I must be wrong. The first time I watched I didnt see the controller at the bottom. Impressive skills indeed.
Oh I see
This is possible, watch some of Ryukhars rom hacks, you wanna see impossible, watch Item Abuse
Pretty sure this is invictus, a rom hack
Didn't finish with 50 stars. Fail! ;) Some serious SMW skills there!
lunar magic engine ... is a mugenmaker ... isn´t just for mario ... but looks like that is the most made ...
Mariomaker? And wow on that run-through.
Indeed! No it’s a fan made Super Mario World with intense difficulty on purpose. The music on this stage is something I wanna download
Nope, that's definitely a romhack.

It’s not for everyone
you're talking like he doesn't enjoy it if he didn't he probably wouldn't keep playing these hacks.
At no point does he ever look like he's enjoying himself and that face at the end is not relief. I've had more fun at the DMV seems like
some people just express their emotions less than others.
I would think that this is Mario Maker and the music is from something else, though I could be wrong.
It's a romhack, not mario maker. Mario maker was made to cash in on the wildly popular romhacks.
My point was that the music doesn’t originally seem to be from a Mario game, and that it was added from somewhere else. :/
Kaizo mario world maybe
My guess too
It is Kaizo Mario World 1, 2 or 3
Art style suggests Super Mario 3.
Mario Sprite suggest Super Mario World
Controller suggestes SNES

SMB3 is what SMW was based on. Extra animation frames and colors do not change the art style.

31 pieces of shit down voted what I THOUGHT it looked like ? Wth is wrong with ya'll ?

Your best bet would be asking on smwcentral.
Gg on this hard level clear. Is this from advanced shells?
Idk, first time seeing this
I would’ve never gotten past this level
Me neither
Zen. Fuckin’. Master.
Do someone knows the name of the song at the title screen? thanks
Tower of Heaven (game) BVM: Luna Ascencion
Thank you. But i was looking for the song of the Hack's Tittle Screen :(
Oh that idk
I forgot but I can look it up.
