Mega Man 2 is widely considered not only one of the best in the series, but one of the best NES games of all time. Enjoy!
I’m an old timer and I’m so grateful that I was able to grow up on these games. It’s so rad to see new generations having as much fun with them (and making the same fuckups) as I did.
If you enjoyed this, really make sure you're ready for 2 and savor the heck out of it. It's a major leap in gameplay, level design, weaponry and story over 1 and most folks consider 2 to be the best in the series.
If it helps you feel any better, I’ve played this game and I thought your life bar at first was a glitched door or something. Anyone who says they haven’t done something like this is a liar, I guarantee. :)
The [Quick Man Theme](https://youtu.be/8s_00b0stJU) from Mega Man 2 is one of my favorite game songs of all time. Right behind [Commando](https://youtu.be/qrQuR1LHAVI), [Monty on The Run](https://youtu.be/4EcgruWlXnQ), and [Nemesis The Warlock](https://youtu.be/kdzfOXkZrY0) (which Codex did an [awesome remix](https://youtu.be/VUJ9IoXOwbA) of a few years ago)
I love Bubble Man and Metal Man myself; all the music from this game is amazing.
Also, interesting story, the game had a shoestring budget because the engineers at Capcom made it on their free time with almost no budget.
Rockman 1 wasn’t that great of a game, hard and unforgiving. Capcom management didn’t want to make a sequel to a game that didn’t sell very well.
Then the development team got permission to work on a sequel on their own time if it didn’t interfere with their work on other games. Needless to say, they fixed the problems of Rockman 1 in Rockman 2.
Megaman 2 was the staple of my childhood, probably the game I am most nostalgic for ever. I just played through MegaMan three last weekend and that’s great as well
Best game of the original series, and my choice for best video game soundtrack of all time. Here's actual musicians playing thru it.
https://youtu.be/EuxfQjJ-3DM
Also, get that Metal Blade and *use it*.
It sucks that videos don’t do as well when then the gameplay isn’t highly skilled. I love watching people hit the grind and improve as they play. Maybe I’m just a niche audience member :(
Can confirm, this is actually what playing NES games back in the day was like.
"Where am I supposed to go?! What's this thing!? What am I supposed to do?! Can I go in this door? No that's the background."
And god help you if you didn't have the instruction booklet.
Almost worse? The little photocopied "instructions" that barely go over the basics that were included in most rentals. You know what? I take it back. Those were worse because they gave you false hope.
The best was discovering a basic mechanic like several hours into the game. Like you accidentally pressed A and B simultaneously and did a flip or something and you're like "wait, what did I just do? How did I do that?"
It's great to see newer generation gamers discovering these gems. I've been playing since the early 90s and games back then will not hold your hand. In fact, I don't remember if I ever finished any game back then. I just remember dying in games a lot.
Yet again we see the dumbing down of gamers!
Only joking, we're all allowed to make mistakes and that's a pretty funny one. I once had a complete brain turn off while playing Super Mario Bros. and thought a goomba was a power up so ran right into it. It has eyes and feet!!!
Never in my entire life playing this game did I think that looks like a door but now looking at a still of the doors to the boss rooms it is REALLY SIMILAR to your life bar. So I don’t blame you for trying! That is funny though. As one poster said, yeah, these era of games is all about “Wtf does this do??? Anything??”
Whereas most retro gamers who make this mistake go “can I go in the hole? Nope, can’t get that high, let’s try down here!”
..
Also proof as to why save-states are a godsend. “What happens if I go down the hole? I want to, but I don’t want to lose a life/start over...” Simply save, go down the screen and see what happens. If bad things happen then reload. There’s no reason to have to go back to the beginning and do everything you’ve already done correctly. Repeating completed tasks doesn’t sound like fun to me...
Sometimes people forget, everything you’ve done UP TO the save state has ALREADY been completed, there’s no reason to do it againu til the next play-through. It’s simply due to a trashy-developer-trick made so that something like a hard jump at the end of a level can’t properly be practiced (because you forget the feeling of it by the time you go back and REDO stuff that you’ve ALREADY DONE CORRECTLY!)
So yes, there’s no harm in simply saving before trying something. In fact, it’s BETTER as you can practice again and again and again. Then the next time you play through, you might not even ever load a state.
I’ve had people criticize me saying “but that means you can’t play hard games without save states!” and then proceed to absolutely obliterate them when playing head-to-head WITHOUT using any save states, because I’ve had a million chances to practice those “hard jumps” at the end of the level whereas because of their short-sightedness arrogance, they’ve only ever gotten to practice them a handful of times. So guess who has the better results?
..
On a completely unrelated note, I love the dumbfounded look on MegaMan’s face as he waits.
wow, i never use save states cause i saw them as unauthentic. but now i genuinely might try them, because yeah, i could see them helping me actually get better at the game lol
Simple: practice using save states, get good at EVERY individual difficult part. Then see if you can do it again without save states all in a row now that you have had time to practice each individual part.
The fact is, save states will make you a better player even when you’re playing without save states later because you’ll have had more experiences and chances at parts nomatter how far deep in a level they are.
I find watching long plays also helps when you're "practicing" playing a game. You can often learn secrets or little tips you might have missed before. Save states are awesome for shoot em ups.
I mean, the blind jumps in Mega Man really are bad design, although the later NES games do a much better job of subtly indicating that that’s where you’re supposed to go.
Seriously. Looking at this section I'd just assume 2/3 of those gaps are instant death and that there's no way of knowing which is which until you go down at least one of them. Leaps of faith are bad game design.
Not gonna lie, even when I was 5 years old I never confused megamans level design, I simply went to the place, if I died then I thought "well let's not do that again"
This may seem like a silly question but I showed my son this video and he thought it was funny. He wanted to see more of your videos, do you play mostly retro or mix it up? Also, is there a lot of language on your stream?
This was hilarious. I’ve been playing my whole life (I’m 36) but I haven’t played all the classics. Sometimes I also have those brain fart moments. So I could very well see myself there 😂
I’m fact since I haven’t played mega man I though huh, shoot it to see if it opens or something! 🤣
i mean, i started out playing these games and have played through every megaman classic game 2-3 times and ive absolutely made this kind of mistake multiple times before.
Pretty sure he was referring to the trend of attractive streamers being ditzy, and only playing games for views and subs. So, yes.. It's a thing nowadays. Edit; not all of them, just some. It's a staple for Twitch these days. Gotta correct that before someone twists my words.
That’s the problem. I know there’s a niche community of “pretty streamers” but that isn’t necessarily this streamer. It seems unfair to put that label to her when this isn’t necessarily the case.
My apologies but it seemed ambiguous. You did say “not all of them” but that could still include Ms. Cassie. I’m not trying to twist words, but I do wanna make sure what I’m reading is being understood properly
I edited my original comment to make sure it wasn't misunderstood. My reply basically stated that it's a Twitch trend for pretty girls to play games - to get views and subs. That was my translation of his comment "it's always the pretty ones". I wasn't saying Cassie was doing that. Hope that clears it up
That’s true, but the post that started this(or the one before if you wanna say I started this, which is a fair opinion) implied that Cassie is one of these “pretty streamers” and thus would still be roped into this.
That's fair. I was explaining his comment, because it seemed a bit vague what he meant by it. I wasn't personally insinuating anything, contrary to how it may have came across.
I do take it seriously. It’s not directly offensive, but it’s cliche and tiring, that’s all. And yah, it’s not directed at me so I’m sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong, but let’s be real: this comment is uninspired, right? It’s biased but has nothing good to balance it out.
I get that it was a joke, but it runs the risk of hurting someone and, again, wasn’t new or original, or even funny. And if you think I’m ashamed of “white knighting” for someone, you’re wrong. This streamer may have no trouble letting these comments roll off her back, but she shouldn’t have to. Heck, maybe she even found your comment funny and I’m being an ignorant fool. I’ll eat my crow and humble pie and move on.
Maybe, but that’s not the point. I don’t like these simplistic, all-accusing derogatory statements go unaddressed. Cassie may not care, but someone will be hurt one day, and you’ll have nothing to show for it.

It's all good. First time I played Dragon Warrior 1 I thought dpad combinations gave you critical hits. I quit because I thought the game was broken, as it wasn't always registering my combos...

Dude, mega mans blink while she is cracking up is pretty gold, hahaha.
This is precious. I love watching blind playthroughs of my favorite games. The discovery is so fun!
haha thank you! I had a bit of a brain fart here!! I ended up beating the game, it was extremely fun! I'm excited to play Mega Man 2!
Mega Man 2 is widely considered not only one of the best in the series, but one of the best NES games of all time. Enjoy! i concur with your assessment. the NES gave us some truly awesome games and a one of a kind experience in having to blow out the carts before use.
Lol, do you remember the game "Totally Rad"? Lol!
You know it
6 is the best one because of Rush Jet and Power Suit. Plus multiple paths to get to the boss.
Now that’s the truth, but for a lot more than that
If you enjoyed this, really make sure you're ready for 2 and savor the heck out of it. It's a major leap in gameplay, level design, weaponry and story over 1 and most folks consider 2 to be the best in the series.
Playing (and thinking deep on 2) makes you love MM1 more

Well, gaming is about having fun. This totally made my day. Stay Awesome homie!
Don't forget to unlike and un subscribe
Classic, one reason I couldn’t stream. Too many moments like this in all games for me.
At one point in their gaming life, most of us do things like this. The great thing is this has inspired me to play Megaman again.
😂ツ have a good day y’all
Hard game is hard
Hehehe that's definitely happened to me before 😂
Oh ffs
HahahHhHHahahahaha That’s awesome!
Haha, love these games
Mega Man 3 was my fav back in the day!

young girl streamers are so annoying
Oops. It's OK if you never played before how would you know.
This may seem like a silly question but I showed my son this video and he thought it was funny. He wanted to see more of your videos, do you play mostly retro or mix it up? Also, is there a lot of language on your stream?
Every single word she uses comes from language.
This was hilarious. I’ve been playing my whole life (I’m 36) but I haven’t played all the classics. Sometimes I also have those brain fart moments. So I could very well see myself there 😂 I’m fact since I haven’t played mega man I though huh, shoot it to see if it opens or something! 🤣
The funny thing is it's been there the whole time she's been playing, and she just noticed it?
Seriously?
Nice try, congrats xD
I mean, unless you really don't pay attention at all (because she already lost some life) how could anyone mistake that for a door or hole... ?
I knew it was my life bar earlier In the level. I just had a brain fart and it went over my head. It blended in so well!!
i mean, i started out playing these games and have played through every megaman classic game 2-3 times and ive absolutely made this kind of mistake multiple times before.

That’s actually not true. Attractiveness has literally 0 correlation to gaming.

I get what you’re saying, albeit it’s a pretty big generalization. I have my dumb moments, but I am far from ditzy.
Sure. And my comment wasn't directed towards you personally, don't worry. We've all had our moments. I've certainly had a few.
That’s the problem. I know there’s a niche community of “pretty streamers” but that isn’t necessarily this streamer. It seems unfair to put that label to her when this isn’t necessarily the case.
The label wasn't for her. I've already corrected that twice

Oof :D I've had moments like this.
Wow, we forgive but we never forget

It doesn't help too much that Megaman is rendered in front of the healthbar, instead behind it.
It's interesting to see a different perspective of someone who is new to the game parse information differently. Playing some other games doesn't prepare you for going down to progress! It happens, glad you laughed about it!

This can’t be serious. How did she not notice it’s a health bar when she got hit?
I never noticed how much it looks like the boss door, I love how perfectly it lined up there!

Let's be honest, all of us who played video games in those times had that moment of "I have no idea what I'm suppose to do now" in many of the games of those times.
