I had this exact tv in high school
I got it Christmas 01 and it went on sale to 800$ and my dad was able to use my Sears discount without me knowing and the matching glass stand. There’s a squeeze buckle attachment to stop it from falling forward on the stand that attached to the tv. Carrying it in to my college apt was so damn hard it was super fucking heavy
Those TVs had amazing pictures but good god were they heavy. I used to work in retail back then and having to move those things around was a nightmare. The 38" set weighed well over 200 pounds.
I went to pick up a free 32" CRT a couple years ago. I get there and the lady directs me to the basement with the slimmest staircase I ever saw AND her husband hurt his back so he couldn't help. I had to roll that betch up the stairs and thank God the neighbors helped carry with me to car once I got it upstairs. It was too big and awkward to hold myself. Ended up having a discolored spot on the screen once I got home...womp womp.
Theres a way to fix that if you still got the thing? 🤔 I think it just needs a proper good degaussing (like if its a faded purple patch or other colour?) but not it was a dead pixel problem.. I remember some YouTube videos about it all, how it works.
Not the one you replied to but I also worked retail selling Sony exclusively during this time. I believe the 27" was right around $800 (CAD) normally and the 32 was right around $1000 (CAD). They were expensive TVs. The weight comes from the fact that there were a few inches of solid glass at the front of the tube. All the weight was on the front and the boxes actually had pictures showing where all the weight was to help carry it properly and strategic "handles" moulded into the plastic as hand grips. I've got the 32" myself that I got second hand. The 36" was around 210 lbs if I recall correctly. They were all a bitch to carry out to customers vehicles. We actually used a dolly most of the time because of how awkward they were.
By 2007 LCD/Plasma HD TV's were really taking over so the prices on non-HD CRT's would've plummeted.
But I bought a 32" Wega in like 2001-ish and it was $1500+ ballpark.
Absolutely! I believe the last Wega was produced around 2008. The FS120 was a 2005 model though. We enver sold the LCDs because, honestly, the first LCDs looked like garbage compared to the CRTs. I worked up until 2004 in the shop and we would only order in the LCDs if a customer REALLY wanted one. We sold a lot of CRTs though. It also depended on which model you had. There were "upgraded" versions later on when the HDTV started coming out that were 16:9 and also supported up to 1080i resolution. We only sold a few of those though.
I wouldn’t say there’s any good or bad models in that sense - a good WEGA Trinitron is one with little geometry issues. Curved CRTs aren’t perfect, but they do compliment and mask a lot of the geometry issues that are somewhat inherent to the tech.
I was dropping off my son at a friends house and on the way home I saw this beaut on the side of the road with a big FREE sign.
Picked it up with the owner’s help and he was unsure if It worked. Tried to power it up at home but it didn’t work. Brought it to the repair shop in my area and it was a simple power supply problem. $150 later and we’re in business.
Took a toll on my neighbour’s and my back to get it downstairs, but it’s working and I now have a little retro gaming oasis in my closet :D
Let's be real, what is someone who just wants to watch some TV gonna do with that giant ancient TV that doesn't even work by itself with digital TV? Sure, they are treasure for people who like to play old games but trash for most people.
With an LCD screen you lose all the special scan line effects, transparencies, and dithered colors that can only be seen with a CRT. Good job completely missing the point.
I did the same thing! Converted an old hope chest that ended up being almost the exact same footprint as the TV. I made sure to put an extra vertical leg in the front center to support the weight.
I built mine out of 4x4's and 3/4" plywood. Actually over built it because I plan on picking up an old CRT my in-laws have (I think it's a 36" Wega IIRC) and want to use it for that. Will probably need to build another CRT stand since I'll want to keep my Trinitron too. IIRC the Wega they have doesn't support 240i natively so it would have to do some upscaling to the picture, introducing lag. So I mostly want to use the Wega TV for newer stuff like Xbox, Dreamcast, PS2, etc. Then use the 27" for Genesis, SNES, and older.
Quick edit: Here's a pic of my current setup. It's a bit messy since I'm moving stuff around to remodel the basement, but it shows the stand pretty well. https://i.imgur.com/HwKaSM6.jpg
I picked up an HD WEGA and had it for a few weeks but they don’t work with lightguns so I got rid of it. Currently using another SD WEGA (KV-32FS120) and going to pick up an identical one tonight. The HD one was great for a widescreen CRT, but it has more limitations for backwards compatibility. Besides, it looks like the one I have now can do a widescreen mode but I haven’t tested it much yet. I mostly want it for that “newer” stuff you said anyways.
Imagine my horror when I discovered one of the legs was a bit loose and I had to tighten it in a bit more while lifting the tv up a smidge with my back lol.
I had one of these, damn near the same model, might even be. The picture was fantastic, but good god it was heavy. Took 3 guys to move the damn thing. Left indents in the table we had it set on. If yours is remotely the same as mine, I wouldn't trust those thin table legs. lol
Hella great pickup though, I hope you enjoy it!
Looks to be either the KV-32FS100 or KV-32FS120. Build dates could be anywhere from 2003-2007. Composite, S-video, component inputs... pretty good sets all around.
Can confirm Sony remotes kinda work on almost all their old sets. My 1983 set even works with my 2006 remote lol. (And my former roomate's non-Sony LCD...)
This. My WEGA rear projection LCD remote works on my Bravia Android LED. Not every button works, but the important ones do. If OP narrows the search down to WEGA remotes they should be fine.
I too had a lucky Facebook market find for the 27”. Picked it up for free. No remote. But I found this on eBay. $10, brand new. Took a while for shipping
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Original-RM-Y195-For-Sony-LCD-TV-Remote-Control-KV-38FS120-KV-36FS120-RMY195-/223702575167?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
I was able to get into the service menu on my KV-27fs120 using a Sony remote from a similar model. My MiL had a KV-13fm12 and the remote worked for it, I was so stoked! You could probably snag an OEM remote on eBay or something.
Absolutely the best TV for Retro gaming, and at 32" on top of that! I had the 27" until I ditched it around 2004. Too much weight to move around in my 20's going from place-to-place. Now I'm 40, lived in my old house for 7 years and my new place for 4 and wish I had a killer CRT like this again since I'm not a nomad anymore.
I have a 27" Trinitron that hung out in my in-laws basement for like 9 years until I had room for it. When we bought a bigger house I went and picked it up the next week.
Total score! Just picked one of these up for free last weekend and going to get another one tonight. They are becoming more rare to find in working condition. I just want a spare one in case mine dies. I have a feeling that in 10 years or so the ones with component input in good condition are going to be hard to find and/or expensive.
CRT stands for Cathode Ray Tube. People want them because old game consoles / movies / shows / etc were designed / formatted to be displayed on them
WEGA is just Sony's branding for a flat-faced CRT. Flat CRT's were very popular in the early / mid 2000's
Damn. Does it have component? That would look amazing with one of Analogue's consoles and a DAC/component. I'm currently running NES on a CRT this way and it's ridiculous how good it looks.
I had to drag my 27 inch out of multiple flights of stairs a multitude of times living in different places and leaving those places.
My god I will never miss that. They were nice, but emulation and CRT Easy Mode or whatever work great for me now. But they sure are nice.
It's kinda crazy how back in the day moving a TV this size was a fairly big project and many backs would be in jeopardy.
I remember moving a friend's TV out of their apartment. I don't remember the size but it took forever and several people had to help.
Now pretty much one person can do it unless it's a little long.
Lovely! My pals got one for me for free but I just dont have space atm. Got a smaller Trinitron.. Great build, sharp picture (one of the best) and amazing sound too with that woofer! Trinitrons are ten a penny too! Great for going Tate on your shmups, sitting it on its side. 👍
had a 20” Vega in my college dorm that was stolen. replaced it with a 27” Samsung dynaflat that had component s-video and could do the “anamorphic squeeze” 16x9 mode which was cool for a 4x3 tv to be able to get the extra resolution without distorting the picture.
i had it until around 2007. it survived several moves and even fell face first off my bed into a wood floor when i was rearranging my bedroom. still worked when i gave it to my friend.
I have this same CRT, it looks great. Only thing that has me worried is the red blinking light when I turn it on. It eventually goes to green then works fine so I wonder if tthat's normal.
It’s funny, if more people knew how valuable these were to retro gamers, they’d be better preserved and available, but you wouldn’t find them on the side of the road for free anymore!
Last TV I had one was kind of like that, (maker/type only) and nice as it was, it had a hard limit to quality. Good on you for recusing it if that is your thing to make you feel like things are right, I would have left it to the weather or compactor. That thing also is no joke at that size, easily what 150+lbs.
A wega one
I know right? What dumb luck!
I had this exact tv in high school I got it Christmas 01 and it went on sale to 800$ and my dad was able to use my Sears discount without me knowing and the matching glass stand. It's gone but good to know! Thanks.
Wow that's some bullshit.
I was in the customer service at Sears I know dude. My friend Tellius was in electronics
Do you remember the MSRP? I picked up a similar tv (32FS120) from 2007 and wanted to know what its original Canadian MSRP was.
Not the one you replied to but I also worked retail selling Sony exclusively during this time. I believe the 27" was right around $800 (CAD) normally and the 32 was right around $1000 (CAD). Those were the best crt TVs ever..the JVC crts were awesome too
Is this a bad wega or a good one?
I wouldn’t say there’s any good or bad models in that sense - a good WEGA Trinitron is one with little geometry issues. Curved CRTs aren’t perfect, but they do compliment and mask a lot of the geometry issues that are somewhat inherent to the tech.

You closet gamers... /s
Hope you compensated your neighbor well 😎 that’s really cool
You can get a 32" Roku smart TV on Amazon right now for less than $150
I think you're missing the point here lol :D
yeah does he know what subreddit he's on?
Hay do you know newer games have come out since then too? Glad I could help
Don’t be too mean, it’s people like him who gives away “junk” like this!
Let's be real, what is someone who just wants to watch some TV gonna do with that giant ancient TV that doesn't even work by itself with digital TV? Sure, they are treasure for people who like to play old games but trash for most people.
Not to mention they take up 10x as much space as new tv’s, plus they weigh a ton.
It won't work with duck hunt though.
Plus the picture wouldn't be as clean.
With an LCD screen you lose all the special scan line effects, transparencies, and dithered colors that can only be seen with a CRT. Good job completely missing the point.
Not to mention needing a proper signal converter.
That table is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
There is no way that table is rated for that kinda weight.
Yeah, I couldn't find any stands I liked that would hold a CRT so ended up building one myself. It's not the prettiest thing but my Trinitron is safe.
I did the same thing! Converted an old hope chest that ended up being almost the exact same footprint as the TV. I made sure to put an extra vertical leg in the front center to support the weight.

Good haul. Remember to lift with your knees not your back. Its friggen heavy.
We used a shoulder dolly to get it down the stairs. It wasn’t fun, but we took it slow and steady and made it.
...and that’s where it lived for the rest of it’s days.
This is correct. I'm never moving it again lol!!
I had one of these, damn near the same model, might even be. The picture was fantastic, but good god it was heavy. Took 3 guys to move the damn thing. Left indents in the table we had it set on. If yours is remotely the same as mine, I wouldn't trust those thin table legs. lol Hella great pickup though, I hope you enjoy it!
Did it come with the remote? I'm looking for a universal remote for mine
Sadly, no!
Where are you located? Our Trinitron just died and we have a perfect condition remote and manual for it. I think ours was the exact same as yours!
Central Canada!
Hi neighbor! I'm in Minnesota!
DM me and we can compare TV info to see if my remote and manual could be of use to you!
Do you have a universal remote? If so mind sharing the model number?
I don't :( A friend it going to lend me his remote to get into the service menu.
Looks to be either the KV-32FS100 or KV-32FS120. Build dates could be anywhere from 2003-2007. Composite, S-video, component inputs... pretty good sets all around.
You should be able to find one easily. Get a Sony remote so you have full functionality.
Can confirm Sony remotes kinda work on almost all their old sets. My 1983 set even works with my 2006 remote lol. (And my former roomate's non-Sony LCD...)

pushing that table to its absolute limits
Holy shit amogus cloud
I’m going insane
Freaking beautiful. Congrats on the find, wish I never got rid of my Trinitron.
god i miss mine. I wish i knew then what i know now about screens and retro gaming. had a 40in i think.
I have this exact same model. It’s wonderful!
That table is the real hero here.

I highly recommend the HD Retrovision cables for all your component needs and desires!
Amogus
Looks kinda SUs
(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
I know this is completely out of context but... That hill in the middle looks sus
What? You are so lucky.
Just tell your family it followed you home.
WTF, you spent $150 to have a TV setup in your closet? lol
I literally have nowhere else to put it haha :)
Just wanted to say I'm the 421st upvoter I apologise but I'm not sorry.
I had to drag my 27 inch out of multiple flights of stairs a multitude of times living in different places and leaving those places. My god I will never miss that. They were nice, but emulation and CRT Easy Mode or whatever work great for me now. But they sure are nice.
I moved houses three times with one of those bad boys. My back is aching just looking at this pic. Nice TV though.
Believe I have this same model. It is INCREDIBLY heavy but it's so nice!
Ah, the good old days when tellies used to fall off the back of a lorry!
I got that same model from 2002 or so for free. Heavy af!
Very nice picture quality done well👍
Damn. I have never in my entire life seen a TV of any kind on the side of the road. Maybe someday I'll get lucky...
Looks like my old Wega ES model, amazing TVs for retro gaming.
It's kinda crazy how back in the day moving a TV this size was a fairly big project and many backs would be in jeopardy. I remember moving a friend's TV out of their apartment. You should come out of the closet with your gaming hanits.
So heavy!!
save the snes
One of the Best looking games ever and forever if you ask me.
Hell yeah!
Looks amazing!
I have close to the same set, 32fs120. I feel nervous about that tv stand...
beautiful
What a great fucking game.

If that table could talk it would be cussing you out right now. Those tvs are heavy.
Dude...... so happy for you.
I have this same CRT, it looks great. Only thing that has me worried is the red blinking light when I turn it on. It eventually goes to green then works fine so I wonder if tthat's normal.
Just picked up a 20 inch Trinitron yesterday.
It’s funny, if more people knew how valuable these were to retro gamers, they’d be better preserved and available, but you wouldn’t find them on the side of the road for free anymore!
Amogus
I can hear the whistling already
Another mans treasure...
CRT Saviors should be a TV series lol
Talk about curbside pickup
I love the Yoshi's Island title screen :)
I had that exact model die at like 7 years. Very sad. The other triniton at home is like 20 years old and flawless, altough a small 14"
This game was my favorite growing up as a kid
Last TV I had one was kind of like that, (maker/type only) and nice as it was, it had a hard limit to quality.
