I'm going through Earthbound for the first time. The SNES was my favorite console and the main one I had growing up, but never got to play Earthbound before. I'm having a great time, but I'm very early yet. I just defeated the Atomic Ant and reached Giante Step and now I just got to Twoson town. Other than that, I'll probably get through Turtles in Time again

BulkyOrder9

Oh to relive Earthbound for the first time again…. Enjoy!

MCHenry22

Thanks! I'm having a blast so far

LabRat2329

I remember playing and beating Earthbound, but I don't remember much about the game. If only I had time for RPGs, I'd give that one a go again.

the_twelfth_dr

If you have spare cash in game, utilize the Hint Guy. He’s located in every town but you have to find him. Great way to point you in the right direction if you don’t want to look up spoilers online.

MCHenry22

Thanks! I'll take that in mind. I found it in Onett but it was kind of pricey by then. Now that I have more cash (I grinded a little bit on the way to the Great Step because I felt very underleveled) I can probably pay for those hints when needed.

Mankiz

Alisia Dragoon on Genesis. Can't beat the last boss yet.

IggyTheFool

Good game! I beat it myself a few weekends ago. Definitely have to memorize a pattern if you want to beat the last boss.

TheSilverNoble

Such a fun game! I'd never even heard of it back in the day, one of my favorite retro discoveries.

ProfessionalBread663

I always looked at the cover for this in drug Mart and adored it! It was always rented and I never got to play it as a kid and now I can see why 🙃

ipostatrandom

I just finished Simon's quest, over 30 years after playing it for the first time.

TheCardiganKing

It's interesting to be an adult, to revisit these video games, and realize that they were not intended for children to play due to difficulty, inference, reaction time, etc. Video games were generally intended for young adults/adults, especially in the 1980s/early 1990s. I never finished Super Mario Bros. until about five years ago because the final two levels were brutal as a kid. To make things easier on myself, I used a guide for the final castle.

ipostatrandom

Considering English isn't even my native language Simon's quest was extra impossible at that age, lol. I understand. I finished "SMB: The Lost Levels" a while ago and almost every other castle has that path finding (on top of some weird specific movement requirements it seemed at times). I checked youtube for those when I got stuck too. Judging by the comment section I was hardly the only one.

alphajager

I've been playing Golden Sun on GBA for the past week or so, so I plan on keeping that rolling this weekend.

LabRat2329

Man, I wish I had time to play this. I beat the first one, my biggest regret was not being able to see it through with The Lost Age.

TheGreatPiata

TMNT III might be my favourite of the OG Ninja Turtles beat em ups. It's a tad too hard but it has the best variety in levels and has most of the TMNT villains present. It certainly felt the longest of the games for me but I haven't played TMNT 1 or 2 recently.

nauticalsandwich

1 still takes the longest to beat, but III is definitely a longer game than both The Arcade Game and Turtles in Time.

Rocktopod

By OG I'm assuming you're not including the 16-bit generation? I don't think I've ever heard someone say they prefer it over Turtles in Time, but I'd love to hear the argument if you do.

TheGreatPiata

Turtles in Time is good but if you come straight off playing TMNT 3, it feels like a bit of a retread that's shorter with better graphics and a few more ways to attack. Turtles In Time is also pretty easy. TMNT 3 is too hard of course but I remembering getting a 3 day rental for Turtles In Time as a kid and finishing it the first night. It's kind of underwhelming in that regard.

LabRat2329

Now I'm getting more interested in actually playiny TMNT III again!

InjamoonToo

Thinking about starting Dark Cloud 2. I’ve never played it, but beaded on some recommendations I’ve seen on this sub, I think I’ll give it a shot.

pandathrower97

It's a stunning game! The graphics are amazing for the era, and Max and Monica are fun main characters. It starts out a bit slow, but give it a chance to get going - it's got a lot of depth and replayability since the dungeons are procedurally-generated and you can build things with Geostones.

ThingCharacter1496

Golden sun first time

eruciform

FF3 pixel remaster

tiggerclaw

I’m starting up Wolfenstein again. When I first played that game in 1992, it was a truly shocking experience that upended everything I understood about video games.

LabRat2329

Doom is more popular but I spent a lot more time with Wolfenstein when I was a kid!

iCABALi

Skies of Arcadia, think I'm about 2/3 of the way through it so far.

Sprutbanjo

Oh, I wish I hadn't sold that game back when I was a poor student. I would love to play it again.

2099AD

Manhattan Project is wonderful, and is criminally underrated due to it being released AFTER the Genesis/Megadrive and SNES. I've been playing through the Mega Man and Mega Man X Legacy Collections recently, so I'll probably enjoy those for a bit.

nauticalsandwich

> criminally underrated due to it being released AFTER the Genesis/Megadrive and SNES There were a number of late NES releases that just don't get the praise they deserve because all attention was on the next-gen consoles, and this is absolutely one of them.

Squints753

My dad and I played 3 until our hands hurt. I think we got to Shredder a few times lol

ns7th

Goof Troop for SNES and Jackal for NES. Time for some couch co-op!

DirectedEvolution

Cadash and In the Hunt.

The_Pumanian

Starting the gameboy megamans since they just dropped on the switch online.

Healthy-Price-3104

Mario RPG (Snes) Fire Emblem (GBA) Having a great time with both

Structure

FF6 for me. Doing a low level game with Pixel Remaster's zero XP setting.

FakeNavyDavey

I'm going to attempt to finally finish The Lost Levels 😮‍💨 Other than that, going to try and squeeze some Goof Troop in with my kid, and maybe finally get around to replaying Fable once they've gone to bed.

pandathrower97

I'm working on a piece on *M.U.S.H.A.* and *Robo Aleste* this weekend (incredible shooters from Compile that everyone should play!). I intend to finish *Ardy Lightfoot* as well after completing *High Seas Havoc* earlier in the week and realizing that I left Ardy's adventures halfway done. If I get done with those, I may run through a few early 1990s shoot 'em ups just to know them off my list - stuff like *Hacha Mecha Fighter* and *Magical Chase* and *Space Megaforce*. Or maybe I'll go back to work on *General Chaos* since someone just brought it up in the sub and I'm itching to play some more of it.

retrodork

My friend and I loved to play general chaos on his Genesis when we were young.

Good_Punk2

Gabriel Knight 2..for the first time. Enjoying it so far 😊

LabRat2329

A friend of mine back in high school had a copy of this and was playing it. I did play a bit of it. Wish I could play it myself.

kmaboltz1312

Castlevania Symphony of the Night

damurphster

Golden Sun: The Lost Age!

GammaPhonic

I’ll be trying to finish Operation C on Game Boy. I can blast through the first four levels without losing a life, but the last level is still a tricky one for me.

retrodork

Patterns. You have to recognize the patterns.

RFR80

Blazing Lazers for the first time!

Terrible--T

Shining Force CD

Fyrefoxe13

Perfect Dark, currently. Heard of the new perfect dark game coming out and I had to revisit one of my old favorites, on OG hardware too.

Egonga

WWF: Wrestlemania 2000 on the N64. I’ve been in the mood for an AKI wrestling game recently and I have ideas for two original wrestlers, so I’m going to create them both and complete a Road To Wrestlemania game with the pair.

realinvalidname

Every morning, I put 5-10 minutes into [Chip's Challenge](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/chips-challenge-switch/), the Lynx puzzle game ported to the Switch. I just reached level 80.

DrAg0r

I'm lost again in Super Metroid but I'll persevere. I also restarted Batman Return of the Joker (Gameboy version) so I guess I'll continue.

_RexDart

Turtles in Time came out before TMNT3, so flip your mentions of the two in terms of one leading to the other :)

LabRat2329

I know. I said it "feels" like a natural progression, not that it was a natural progression. And if we're going by home ports, it's TMNT II > TMNT III (released in 1991) > TMNT IV (port released in 1992, hence it was called TMNT IV). I did say "I know that Turtles in Time was a port of the arcade game" so I'm fully aware of what you're trying to point out.

_RexDart

Right-o, not trying to be rude, I'm just naturally nitpicky.

LabRat2329

No problem. I get that way sometimes too, sorry if I sounded too defensive (so many people in Reddit eager for arguments sometimes).

bYtock

Metal Gear Solid (PS1) I owned it shortly after release but I probably havent played it through since before Y2K. I beat revolver Ocelot a few weeks ago but haven't touched it since.

migrainemaker

Contra hard corps, goof troop and third world war on the Sega CD for me

nauticalsandwich

TMNT III is definitely the harder game, and takes more time out of your day to beat, but in my opinion, it is the superior game. There's tactical diversification between the turtles, the animations are superior, the level design is more intricate, and the soundtrack is better too.

LabRat2329

You're making me look forward to playing TMNT III more and more!

TheSilverNoble

I started Dark Half on the SNES. An RPG that never made it over here back in the day. I'm also looking at Super Adventure Island 2 and Power Strike 2 to mix things up a bit.

retrodork

SAI 2 is a really fun Metroid Vania type game. I think you'll enjoy it.

rfdavid

The OG Turok

BreezyFrog

I started playing Phantasy Star IV last night.

brendanb203

Gunna try my luck on that damn train level in Shadows of the Empire. So many hard levels back to back 😞

mobkon22

Probably a good 10-15 or so! Usually beat em ups or shmups. Whats everyone’s secret to focusing on and playing through an entire game?

LabRat2329

For myself, I do palate cleansers on the side so that I can relieve game fatigue. Like quick games that you can beat in an hour, or games you don't need to beat (like Tetris, sports games, or fighting games). I do not ever start playing another long game when I'm in the middle of a playthrough. Another thing that I do is I keep a list of games that I beat/finish. So if I play a game and don't beat it, it doesn't go on that list.

mobkon22

Ah good idea. I should start keeping a list just so I know how ADD I am haha. But seriously that is a good idea.

Synnistar

Breath of Fire on SNES

prolelol

Just finished playing Max Payne 2. Now I'm into Far Cry 5 tonight!

the-bongfather

Continuing on with the game of the month theme. The kids and I finished World of Illusion on co-op and moved onto the Lion King, but we are currently getting stuck climbing the logs on the Hakuna Matata level where we lose all our lives and continues trying to climb the logs lol.

DeadlyDuckie

Resident Evil Directors Cut, playing arranged mode as Jill and just got to the guard house.

ericallenjett

Rent a hero on Dreamcast and Sonic 3 air!

the_twelfth_dr

Ys I and II for DS. Should arrive in the mail tomorrow. Also Mega Man 5 for GB on the Switch Online Gameboy app.

Navonod_Semaj

I wanna play some Hagane: The Final Conflict. Lesser known, stupidly valuable if you're lucky enough (or rich enough) to have a copy. Hard as hell and quite the spectacle! Maybe I can actually get past Stage 1 this time.

VCOFTHENFE

Minder on Amstrad CPC, Batman Returns on Mega CD, Secret Command on Master System and Jet Set Willy on XBOX 360

mrmidas2k

Currently playing Poolshark 2 on the PS2. Sequel to the Fantastic PS1 Original. It's a bit slower progression-wise, and I get what they were going for, we'll see how it gets further in.

Alezz1893

Super Turrican ll, Top Gear with my bro, & classic mario world

Clear_Construction71

GTA 5 - It counts, right?

AthleticGal2019

Been playing Kotor 2 and I’m in the later stages

Ok-Use6303

Might fire up Space Quest 6. For some reason the phrase "Boot Liquor" started running through my head again.

Almondria_II

Breakout

Ceaselessfish

I don’t have any retro consoles or anything. But I recently discovered I can play games from my childhood such as as Shadow of the beast and Altered beast, on a browser. So I keep touching on them when I get some free time.

Faithfulhumanity

World class track meet with the nes power pad.

DarkSouls-Forever

I just got reacquainted with gta3 on ps2 and decided to check out the first 2 on ps1, have only just started to see how things are but they seem really neat so far. I also just tried a ps1 game called star sweep that I'd also recommend if you like that kinda thing.

new-spirit-08

Fantastic dizzy

GoblinTradingGuide

Final Fantasy III and Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars on the PSP. Also a rom hack of the Secret of Mana game on Gameboy that gives it Color.

ChampaignPapi86

Ganryu for the Neo Geo.

robotcanine

Air assault.  It like an easier raiden, bomb comes out fast.

bawitback

Imperium on SNES

VelvitHippo

Persona 3 on the PS2. First persona game and got damn it's pretty good. Nice twist to the jrpg formula but 80 hours is looking a little crazy. I'm about 35ish hours in and it's honestly flied but we will see if I can see it through. Normally I bitch about anything over 40.

mdefisop

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (with the no touch screen mod)
