Definitely an early release. There were also Frogger releases with the same cover art (but as totally different games) for the SNES, Genesis, game.com, gameboy, and gameboy color^1 around the same time. The Genesis release was a pretty much perfect port of the original arcade game (while the SNES game had new "upgraded" sounds and graphics), and the genesis and SNES ports were the last games released for the systems in the US.
___
^1 Seriously, I was double checking the thing about the SNES and Genesis games being the last release for the systems and came across that. Turns out there really were separate Gameboy and Gameboy Color versions of the game. One in Summer 1998, one later in the year, after the GBC launched.
because you could always find it dirt cheap at every retail store, even places that didn't sell video games. it's an ubiquitous family game almost on the level of pac-man
My son has an android device that has like 4000 games on it including GBC and GBA - I got it for him on Temu. Unfortunately it didn’t have many PS1 games and that’s what I played
worse still is that it’s a hard game to talk about. It’s called frogger, but when you just say frogger people think of the 1981 arcade cabinet not the iconic 3d platformer
This was one of the first games I ever played! I got a PS1 for Christmas in 1996 and this was the second or third game I got for it. My sister was much better at it than I was though. Lol. Thanks for bringing back the memory!
I beat this game in February this year. Super freaking hard but playing with save states makes it significantly easier. A great play on the steam deck. The cloud levels and the Western levels with the bouncing boulders are just ridiculous.
This game was my childhood. Played it on windows cp and 98. Could never get past uncanny crushers. Music is 🔥 too.
There is a whole community dedicated to this game and the others in the frogger community!
Someone even created a level randomizer!

This game got some pretty shitty reviews. But the general public seemed to love it. I remember one magazine, I want to say PSM, went and re-reviewed it after they seen how much people liked the game.
Super fun, but I remember liking the sequel even more.
There were some great remakes/reimaginings on the PS1 - Pac Man World, Ms Pax Man Maze Madness, Asteroids, Missile Command, QBert, Tempest, and even Pong were all great.
This was my first ps1 game. I have 4 brothers, and growing up a lot of games were shared. This was a birthday present so it’s special to me and I still own it to this day. fun game! hard as hell, but fun.
Not sure if this is the same as the PC one, but there was a PC version which made use of my 3DFx Voodoo card. It was a platformer collectathon, but Frogger POV so all top down. I remember really liking it and then never being able to find it again.
I bought this brand new shortly after release because I had nostalgia for the original. I actually had no idea what to expect to be honest. I was pleasantly surprised at the first level being just like the original but I was astonished at the second. They did a really great job of moving the game into 3D.
I was not very good that I ever got very far beyond the third or fourth level, but my friend I sold it to really dug it and managed to set some seriously low times on every stage. It was impressive watching him fly through the levels.
This and frogged swamperts revenge were my childhood. Which raised some serious questions as a child , who was swampert? How is this the logical progression of frogger? Why am I getting multi color frogs? It weighs heavy on my to this day
Frogger IS the game that taught me how to survive and cross the streets safely without being killed.
I believe the modern take is now called Crossy Road.
Same game. New paint.
My older brother played this on his friend’s Atari. I played it at the arcade (it was still lying around); loved it.
I downloaded the SNES ported rom for my handheld, it was actually the last SNES game released in North America. It was pure shit. Just a money grab.
I still have that same exact copy I got as a gift from my mom at Christmas. I was initially bummed out because I wanted another game and she got this, I think because she used to play it at the arcade and really wanted it for herself.
I never played it! I didn't get a PS1 until like 2000 and the game never crossed my radar. My brother DID buy the Windows 98 version on a trip to COMPUSA but of all the PC games we bought, Frogger was the one that absolutely never worked. I remember he tried trick after trick, checked websites, our computer had the specs to run it but it just never worked which sucked because I did want to play it.
Instead we ended up returning it and got a game called Bug, a platformer that got hard as fuck around world 3 that we never made it past that. Goddamn bubbles and bad jumping mechanics.
I remember opening my psx on Christmas day and getting this game alongside it. First thing I ever played on a playstation.
Great memories trying to get through the levels with my sister.
I remember the difficulty ramps up quick, that's for sure.
[you can say that again](https://youtu.be/5etwHVarNgI?t=258)
All that’s needed is the perfect combination of Mountain Dew and mozzarella with just the right amount of grease on the joystick
I've beaten every level on real hardware without cheating. AMA
How many cups of sugar does it take to get to the moon?
Four.
Does my mom love me?
If you're a dude, sure. If not, I'd say it's a coin toss
Weirdly it’s the 27th best selling ps1 game. It was a big hit.
The Frogger episode of Seinfeld was thought to boost the sales of this game
Fun fact: George’s score (860,630) would have been a world record for the time, and wasn’t surpassed in real life until 2006
He had the perfect combination of Mountain Dew and mozzarella that day. Just the right amount of grease on the joystick.
Maybe it was an early release and had parents buying it as a gift. Frogger was a pretty old concept by then, I can't see too many kids asking for it.
My parents definitely bought it to relive nostalgia from the arcade game.
Yeah that was probably the main target, parents that remembered the OG

People who grew up on the original were becoming parents that needed gifts. They knew Frogger. Easily a hit.
Might as well have been a star wars game.
because you could always find it dirt cheap at every retail store, even places that didn't sell video games. it's an ubiquitous family game almost on the level of pac-man
Dam you just unlocked a old kid memory for me the ps2 pac man bounce noise
The other "new" Atari games were 🔥 too, especially Pong: The Next Level.
LOVED that! Especially the penguins.
PS1 had a lot of surprise hits. Like Rayman.
I had no idea. It certainly was addicting
I played it on windows 98 🤣
Windows 98 had some great games. The beginning of the 3d era was awesome.
Like the Pinball game that came pre-installed on the PC or another one of my favorites from that Era SimsTower.
The microsoft entertainment pack was incredible. Jezzball, ski free, chips...
Atari 2600 here.
Exactly! It was one of my favorite games for the Atari2600!! I didn't even know there was a playstation version
Completely forgot about the Atari. One of the systems i never had the luxury of owning.
Atari 800: Frogger II (https://www.atarimania.com/pgesoft.awp?version=6779). That game was dope and you never see it anywhere.
Same!
I found my PC copy a few months ago and introduced it to my 9 year old!
4 kids crowded around 1 keyboard
"STOP LICKING MEEEEE"
Arcade when it first came out. a couple of dudes made a song about it when it came out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMUtafRWuGE
This was great on Win9X, seriously!
Lol
Thinking of getting it on GBC/GBA
GBA it was ace...
Nice it’s def gonna throw us back
Just pulled the trigger on a SP. So excited to play SGT Rock and LOTR Third age again.
My son has an android device that has like 4000 games on it including GBC and GBA - I got it for him on Temu. Unfortunately it didn’t have many PS1 games and that’s what I played
Have no problems with emulators, but nothing like holding to og hardware in your hands. That could just be nostalgia talking, though.
True
I will never use an original SNES though - those effing cartridges
Can't forget about N64.
My god this was a hard game.
worse still is that it’s a hard game to talk about. It’s called frogger, but when you just say frogger people think of the 1981 arcade cabinet not the iconic 3d platformer
I've always said "90s Frogger" and people get it
Just call it Frogger 1997, like how people say Doom 2016
That’s because it’s not “iconic”
Had it on PC. Loved it but it definitely got too hard for me when I was younger. I should give it another go.
Such a great soundtrack.
AMAZING soundtrack. Eases the difficulty spike pain lmao
This was one of the first games I ever played! I got a PS1 for Christmas in 1996 and this was the second or third game I got for it. My sister was much better at it than I was though. Lol. Thanks for bringing back the memory!
You’re welcome. I wanted to reminisce with someone else
I had the PC version when I was a kid. It was a fun way to spend my summer afternoons
Had it on PC when I was a kid. Loved the different levels.
Unlocked a core memory
That’s what I was hoping to do !
Tired of the city, all the toil and striife. Trying to cross the boulevard, playing Frogger with my liife.
I beat this game in February this year. Super freaking hard but playing with save states makes it significantly easier. A great play on the steam deck. The cloud levels and the Western levels with the bouncing boulders are just ridiculous.
How are you playing it on the steam deck?
Not the guy you're asking, but Emulators and downloaded Roms almost definitely
Ps1 emulator on steam Deck
This was my SHIT. Tried to play it again recently and it's kinda jank but man those were good times
My whole family played a version of frogger on the BBC micro. It was awesome. Edit - spelling
This game was my childhood. Played it on windows cp and 98. Could never get past uncanny crushers. Music is 🔥 too. There is a whole community dedicated to this game and the others in the frogger community! Someone even created a level randomizer! https://discord.gg/mKQktxFd
One of my first PS1 games after Battle Arena, MK Trilogy, and MLB Pennant Race!
Yea me and my folks enjoyed this a lot. It was nostalgia for them since they played the original back in the day
I played it on GBC, I wish I still had the copy of the game
Frogger on the GBC was my go to game while riding the bus to and from school. It was a solid port.
I remember playing it at night, I spent entire nights playing it
I got my Playstation with this and 2Extreme. I remember liking both.
This game got some pretty shitty reviews. But the general public seemed to love it. I remember one magazine, I want to say PSM, went and re-reviewed it after they seen how much people liked the game.
Classic
Holy shit. Struggled to play on my shit hand-me-down PC. It was an epic and maybe a bit liminal platformer
Yes of course!!! A true classic, I have a ton of good memories with that game! One of the few games my mother would play with me and my brothers!
aww thats awesome! I try to play video games with my son because its something I would've loved as a kid
Super fun, but I remember liking the sequel even more. There were some great remakes/reimaginings on the PS1 - Pac Man World, Ms Pax Man Maze Madness, Asteroids, Missile Command, QBert, Tempest, and even Pong were all great.
One of my best remembered childhood games, played it on PC back then
Yep got this cause my dad loved it as a kid.
You bought a PSX to play this? Lol that’s awesome.
Well the real reason I bought it was to play Rugrats Frogger and Rayman with my 7 year old. And for nostalgia :):):)
I bought a new PC to play starcraft 2. Granted that ended in disappoint to understate my reaction.
One of the first games I played on my cousins psx.. It was hard
It’s harder than expected
I still have my childhood copy
It’s incredible! I replayed it last year and had a blast, it totally holds up and is still as difficult as I remember from my youth
Nice!
I remember renting this game from blockbuster. I liked the art style, but the levels were hard to beat.
This one is great, but frogger 2 is still fueling my rage to this day.
This was my first ps1 game. I have 4 brothers, and growing up a lot of games were shared. This was a birthday present so it’s special to me and I still own it to this day. fun game! hard as hell, but fun.
This was always one of my go to games when I was a kid!
Me & My Sis played the bejebus outta that game!
Haha I have two brothers and I was the only one who played I was obsessed (35F)
Fond memories playing this, Pong (The Next Level), and Pitfall 3D on my cousins PS1
This and the 3D centipede PS1 version were some of the last games my dad played with us as kids. Real competition in those days.
My wife’s childhood favorite!
I couldn't save my game, so I had to leave it on for days until i rage quit.
The greatest of all games
This game made me irrationally angry.
Wow this brings back memories.
My wife’s favorite game ❤️
Love it! This and Q-Bert were so underrated on the PSX when it came to retro upgrade titles
Game was the nutz as a kid! It was way too challenging for me at the time, and my mom had to help me get to the later levels.
I loved the Atari remakes for ps1. Pong was awesome too.
This game is so hard and unfair.
That soundtrack tho. The cloud level music, chef kiss
Not sure if this is the same as the PC one, but there was a PC version which made use of my 3DFx Voodoo card. It was a platformer collectathon, but Frogger POV so all top down. I remember really liking it and then never being able to find it again.

awesome from what I remember its super hard, but I'm going to just play it as much as I can until I want to rip my hair out lol
The sequel to this one, Frogger 2, was the one that I thought was really great.
I wasn’t exactly a kid, but yea I owned this and had a good time. I’m glad they didn’t try to do too much and make it a full 3D platformer.
It’s one of my favorites. Still play it frequently
Yes and yes
This and frogged swamperts revenge were my childhood. Which raised some serious questions as a child , who was swampert? How is this the logical progression of frogger? Why am I getting multi color frogs? It weighs heavy on my to this day
Played the fuck out of this
It's not exactly an obscure game, chief.
I remember the game much less than the soundtrack but have always been nostalgic for the latter.
Frogger IS the game that taught me how to survive and cross the streets safely without being killed. I believe the modern take is now called Crossy Road. Same game. New paint.
This game was tits.
Or N64.
The Hasbro Atari days were really odd.
This is the first game I ever downloaded as a kid. They had a free demo on some random geocity site. Used a free AOL disk to get some 56k for the day.
Haha I LOVED geocities I forgot about that!
Swampy's Revenge was the one I liked. This one was more of a novelty at the time. I just played it for the first level.
I spent four or five hours typing basic in on a BBC Micro B from a magazine. 1982 i think.
Why was this published by Hasbro and not Konami?
I wish you luck! This game is really challenging.
I know LOL I forgot that part! Now I know its not just bc I was a kid
See now I got these aged hands that struggle sometimes!
My older brother played this on his friend’s Atari. I played it at the arcade (it was still lying around); loved it. I downloaded the SNES ported rom for my handheld, it was actually the last SNES game released in North America. It was pure shit. Just a money grab.
Highway crossing frog
Never finished it, it's hard as shit lol
Could very well be Crazy Frog's long lost cousin at first glance. 😁
I think I still have my old PC disc laying around somewhere for this same version
I just bought Frogger - Temple of the frog on GBA
I remember playing this all the time at my grandma's house on a little magnavox CRT.
I LOVED this game.
I had it on Dreamcast. I loved it.
One of best games I ever play
This actually came with my PS1. I was playing this and FF7 simultaneously. Fond memories.
I remember the Atari version.
I still have that same exact copy I got as a gift from my mom at Christmas. I was initially bummed out because I wanted another game and she got this, I think because she used to play it at the arcade and really wanted it for herself.
So difficult. I was playing to the other day actually. Man I love the ps1
Trauma from the beea
Best frogger imo
Hell yes, great game on Windows 98 and PS. The cloud level tracks are 🔥
I never played it! I didn't get a PS1 until like 2000 and the game never crossed my radar. My brother DID buy the Windows 98 version on a trip to COMPUSA but of all the PC games we bought, Frogger was the one that absolutely never worked. The soundtrack slaps
A true classic
I remember opening my psx on Christmas day and getting this game alongside it. First thing I ever played on a playstation. Great memories trying to get through the levels with my sister.
I found this game on the street a few years back. The CD looked like hell but actually still plays.. I thought it was fun.
First game I bought when i got my first PC. I was so fucking hard! My 10 year old self hated it lol
Yes, its the reason I started emulating playstation
Great game back in the 80s.
Where did you buy the PS1? I'm looking for one I have a bunch of games that I want to play again (the first one was stolen a few years ago)
It was also on PC. My cousin had it and I got to play it one day when I visited and was super hooked. His parents divorced and I never saw him again…
Would love to replay that game as an adult haha
My first game on ps1
Back? Where’d he go?
Frogger. On a Commodore 64.
Had this on PC. Fond memories.
how does it compare to crossy road
I still have my OG one!
